I felt my soul healing while reading this book. We hold on to so much of our past and the demons of those that came before us that we never give ourselves the chance to really live. This book is filled with life lessons, magic, pain, and grief. But more importantly it’s about being in tune with oneself and breaking shackles placed upon you, loving oneself and sharing that love with the world. I enjoyed its ties to the land, Latin American folklore and the authors way of telling a story. It gave me a lot to think about. I highly recommend this book.

This book was well written, and the writing style pulls you into the story right away and holds on till you can’t stop reading. The characters of the story mother and son were interesting to read about, and very real like it makes you wonder if this was a book really written about someone. There was a good originality to these characters and story. This story is twisted and complex which wrote a vividly detailed about how there is a dark side to religion. Between the nun’s ability to hurt you with their thoughts and Gabriel and his wife’s vision, it was a rollercoaster of a read as it kept me guessing till the end. There are moments when I felt chills about what I was reading, and I was on the edge more then once.

Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III is one of the best psychological horror books I believe I have ever read since Stephen King or Dean Koontz. This author has given me the creepiest case of the wiilies that I have ever had. Gabriel has grown up with “Mom of the Year.” She also happens to be Mother Superior. Oh, and did I mention that she has some creepy supernatural powers that she uses to hurt people, including Gabriel, his wife and child? Through the years, we see Mother Juana pretend to be awesome and use her powers to hurt people. Gabriel has always had the power of light on his side. This story is an intense battle of good and evil. Gabriel and his wife, Consuela, are trying to protect their child and the children from the orphanage. Consuela is the one to show that Mother Juana is a mother-in-law from Hell. You can feel the tension and suspense as you read. I love a good story that leaves me so creeped out, I need a night on. Well-written and well-developed, this is a worthy purchase and must-read for all fans of horror and suspense!!!! Paul DeBlassie III is now one of new favorites. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Phenomenal book!

This is a short story that is a gothic fairytale. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her. The one thing I enjoy most about her books is how well written they are and how her use of details keeps the story engaging. This book is no different. I was pulled into the story from the first word. This is a fast paced story that even though it is shorter, it packs a punch. I enjoyed how the characters brought the story to life as well as being relatable. They made great characters that truly made the story for me. There could be some triggers in here for some but if you get passed that, you will find a great story by a great author. This is a story about breaking free from the past and finding yourself in the process. This is really a great story that brings hope and healing. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Weep, Woman, Weep is a Gothic Fairy tale about Ancestral Hauntings by Maria DeBlassie. This novella is a short read but filled with plenty and what a quagmire. It is set in New Mexico and details the lives and curse of generations of women who have lived with pain and sorrow, fear and hatred, racism, and misogyny, ghosts, and magic. This haunting tale shows so much suffering that is so heavy it almost becomes palpable. Generations of Mexican children have grown up afraid of La Llorona and this story is no different. I am so grateful I don’t live with that.
The myth of La Llorona in Latin American folklore is that she is a ghost who roams waterfront areas mourning her children whom she drowned.

Weep, Woman, Weep by Maria DeBlassie has a definite Gothic fairytale feel to it. Set in New Mexico, the story is full of wonderful detail and vivid descriptions. The story was so well crafted that I could visualise everything easily. As expected from Ms. DeBlassie, this story is very original, interesting, and quite quirky. This is a tale of heartache and despair, of ‘the weeping woman’ and her quest for pain and sorrow. With magic, witches, generational trauma, mystery, suspense, and a touch of horror- the story kept me turning the pages to find what lay on the next page- within all the emotional angst and drama, this story also tells a tale of healing, hope, and rebirth. Well worth the read!

A compelling gothic fairytale by bruja and award-winning writer Maria DeBlassie. The women of Sueño, New Mexico don’t know how to live a life without sorrows. That’s La Llorona’s doing. She roams the waterways looking for the next generation of girls to baptize, filling them with more tears than any woman should have to hold. And there’s not much they can do about the Weeping Woman except to avoid walking along the riverbank at night and to try to keep their sadness in check. That’s what attracts her to them: the pain and heartache that gets passed down from one generation of women to the next. Mercy knows this, probably better than anyone. She lost her best friend to La Llorona and almost found a watery grave herself. But she survived. Only she didn’t come back quite right and she knows La Llorona won’t be satisfied until she drags the one soul that got away back to the bottom of the river. In a battle for her life, Mercy fights to break the chains of generational trauma and reclaim her soul free from ancestral hauntings by turning to the only things that she knows can save her: plant medicine, pulp books, and the promise of a love so strong not even La Llorona can stop it from happening. What unfolds is a stunning tale of one woman’s journey into magic, healing, and rebirth. CW: assault, domestic violence, racism, colorism

Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curling Tale of Truth, Freedom and Love by Paul DeBlassie III is a wild ride. I loved every page of this book. I love psychological thrillers; Goddess of Everything adds in the supernatural that makes it even better! The descriptions were lifelike, I felt like I was there seeing everything around me. The characters were well developed. I want to say they were also relatable, but I didn’t feel like I could trust them. Which made for a better story, because I was constantly turning pages and trying to guess what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to everyone, even if thrillers aren’t your thing. It’s perfect for spooky season. Maybe don’t read it with the lights off! I will say a trigger warning may be needed for scenes depicting child abuse and murder.

Okay, to be fair, this is definitely too graphic for me. With that being said, what I did read was intricate and fascinating. The writing feels like an old storyteller rambling with eerie music in the background. It is definitely spooky and disturbing. Explicit depictions of child abuse so beware!! But the supernatural elements are completely original. Absolutely insane amount of detail and dread in the lore of this story. Definitely must be read during the day with the lights on!!

This is a story that will surprise you each step of the way. This creepy and intriguing thriller kept me guessing each step of the way with every twist and turn being thrown. The characters and story itself was original and with each scene more thought provoking then the last. With each character we experience their dark side and find the many hidden agendas proving that each individual may not be all that they seem to be. Troy is a lonely soul who cannot escape his dysfunctional family. He uses chat rooms to attempt to find love but in his daily life has few friends with his only constant being his job at the diner. He has been abused all his life by his father, and only continues to live at home to make sure his mother is safe and protected. As the story progresses we start to see Troy unraveling as he continues to deal with his father, he is forced to deal with an ex-girlfriend Veronica who claims to be pregnant and appears unstable, and lastly issues at work that he cannot ignore. A family history shows the possibility if a “killer gene” and you begin to wonder if he may be a product of his DNA.

It really amazes me about genetic killers. I enjoyed this book because you never know who you’re chatting with and it was a good reminder. This book also proves just because you have witnessed something horrific does not mean you have to do it. It was a different book with a twist. Looking forward to reading more of this author.

Glenn Maynard is a new author to me that I am going to look forward to reading more. Chatroom With a View is a frightful good story. It is scary, psychological, thriller, and suspenseful. The characters are fully developed and complex-complicated. It is about a serial killer’s family and a “killer” gene passed down through the generations. Troy comes from a family that has members that have been serial killers. Veronica is Troy’s ex-girlfriend who is now pregnant. She is worried that her baby may have the “killer” gene. Troy has his own agenda. What happens next you will have to read. I highly recommend this book. It is a page-turner so I recommend leaving enough time to finish it in one seating.

Chatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard. This book was very disturbing but in a good way. It kept me up late in the night turning pages! Its the story of Troy Cullen who’s life has been hard to say the least. His father abuses him and his mother and he stays at home to protect his mother. He feels stuck but knows he has no other choice. He works at the local diner and has some friends but when he meets a girl in a chat room things start to change. They dated for a while but when she wasn’t what she appeared they broke up. She starts calling him again wanting to meet and he’s adamant about not doing it. But when she tells him why she’s wanting to get in touch with him he’s shocked! This story is the epitome of “dysfunctional family” going all the way back to Lizzie Borden being a relative. Do yourself a favor and read this thrilling, dark book! You won’t be disappointed!

Chatroom With A View starts out at 100mph and never slows down. Troy Cullen comes from a dysfunctional family and continually questions his part in the role he inherited. Dysfunctional is the understatement of the year in a family where murder has been ongoing for generations. Glenn Maynard paints a very dark picture, from the opening chapter, and doesn’t stop there. Every time I THOUGHT I figured out the “why” of the main character’s thinking, or almost sympathized with him, another curveball was tossed our way. Not only is the main character the product of generations of abuse, neglect, and even murder, he is constantly battling his own mind on where he stands in all of this. Nature vs Nurture is the ongoing question. Then, enter “Veronica”, the sweet and caring girlfriend…. or so she seems. Without indulging too much, she is not who she seems. Nothing is easy for Troy Cullen, that much is apparent from page one. Whether you sympathize with his choices, or not, he is a strong character, and well written. This was definitely NOT what I was expecting when I started in on Chatroom With A View, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love things that have a dark path, or a surprise twist, and this is full of both. Definitely 5 stars.

Chatroom With a View by Glenn Maynard is a thriller that I really enjoyed reading. The book begins with a bang and a fast turn and kept my attention throughout. The main character Troy Cullen has been abused by his father his whole life and has stuck around after high school living at home to protect his mom. Working at a local diner he feels he has not gone anywhere in life in his small hometown, especially when it comes to girls. When his ex-girlfriend whom he met in a chat room drops a bomb his life becomes even more complicated and he seeks revenge on other women from the chatroom he met his ex in. The story starts strong with good character building and continues with lots of twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone who really enjoys thrillers.

Holy Cow! Chatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard is a super dark and intense Thriller/ Horror that I honestly wasn’t sure about at first. But once I started I couldn’t stop, it was like everything around disappeared and I only focused on this story. The intensity of the story and characters literally had me on the edge of my seat gripping my kindle. This book really gripped me from the get-go, I mean that opening, phew, it was something special and chilling. Grabbing you, quite literally by the throat and dragging you kicking and screaming into the narrative. Maynard really writes terror in a brutal way that sends a chill up your back and makes you feel as though you are being scrutinized, in spite of being tucked up happily in your bed. This is an unrelenting thriller, so as soon as you pick it up, be prepared because it won’t stop or slow down. I really recommend this read, its haunting, and nail-biting, and everything you could want from a thriller really. I find Maynard’s writing is trilling and refreshing, breathing life into a genre that all too often relies on cliches and gimmicks for good scares. I thoroughly recommend giving this a read, you will not be disappointed.

Troy Cullen is a young man with his life ahead of him, but his life in the small town he calls home is anything but normal, he works in the local diner as the night manager and works with a couple of waitresses he has known for a while in passing, when he isn’t there, he is at home where he lives with his parents or he is at the local bar with his best and only friend, sometimes he goes on an internet chatroom to meet girls and look for love, but he isn’t normally too successful and is usually blown off or stood up when it comes to meeting in person. One night, he returns home from work and he know something isn’t right in the house. As he looks around for his parents, all he can hear is silence, and despite the fact his father isn’t overly talkative, it is more unnerving because of it, so as he searches the house for them, he sees that there is a light on in one of the outbuildings, but what he sees within those lights makes him run the fastest he can to get there and this is where he sees the one thing he was most scared of happening in front of his eyes. As things go from bad to worse, Troy has to make some tough decisions and carry them out afterward despite everything that has happened, however, what he decides to do in the end is the lesser of two evils.
Troy eventually completes his tasks which he has set himself and sorts himself out ready for bed where he is out like a light as soon as his head hits the pillow, the next morning, he has to go on living his life in the usual way, however, there is a complication, his dysfunctional family is now even more so, but the topper of the day is when his phone and email light up with multiple messages from his ex-girlfriend Veronica trying to convince his to meet her again, when he tells her he wants nothing to do with her, she doesn’t believe him and instead, decides to convince him it is the other way round and that he needs her in his life. As Troy heads to work, he overhears the conversation the two waitresses are having and he realises what they are talking about seems all too familiar and this has him seething with anger. As all the stress of his living situation starts to get to him, being lonely and somewhat of an outcast is normal for him, but it doesn’t mean he likes it, but when Veronica continues to call, message and email him in a more and more frantic manner, he finally answers the phone and much to his dismay, she announces that she is pregnant and that the baby is his. This news comes as a shock to Try as he was careful and they only met a few times, however, his brain cannot integrate this new information and a shouting match ensues over the phone, in the end, Troy tells Veronica he doesn’t believe her and even if it is true, he wants nothing to do with any of it, this enrages Veronica and so she decides to put a plan into action to find out everything she can about Troy and find a way into his life again.
Meanwhile, as Veronica is concocting her plan to win Troy over, he is concocting a plan of his own, he has been listening to the waitresses conversations and he knows that he has to get back at them for what they are doing, so he decides to play them at their own game and see how they like it, he ropes in his best friend who is more than happy to help and all he has to do is sit and wait, but Veronica’s plan throws a spanner into the works. Will Troy and Veronica’s plans work out as they want them to, or will things come to a head in a much different way than expected? This is a thrilling story of two people and how what starts as a small detail can blow up into something much bigger and with consequences nobody could dream of, it will hook you in and send you on a journey of discovery into how nature and nurture can affect someone and whether there is such a thing as a “Killer Gene” like in the case of Lizzie Borden.

I love how realistic this book is especially with regard to the chatrooms and the talk inside there. Everyone always pretends to be someone they aren’t. It’s a fast paced story full of twists and turns that I definately recommend reading.
It starts off very dark with a murder and an incident that leaves Troy alone in a world that keeps spinning around him. Troy’s dad is an abuser, who always used violence so is that a gene that Troy now possesses. With his world spiraling out of control around him he decides to take revenge over his 2 co-workers who are misleading and hurting men on this chat site. Armed with his two fake profiles Troy wants to teach them both a lesson but how far will he go.
Add to this the stress of Troy’s last encounter with Veronica resulting in her being pregnant. Veronica is now set on being a family with Troy and the baby until she researches Troy’s family and finds out about the risk of the killer gene. Will she keep her fantasy of being a happy family or will she run to protect herself and the baby? Can she escape Troy when he finally realises he wants to be a dad or will her obsession of being a family mean its too late?

Chatroom with a View by Glenn Maynard is a dark book that really delves into some topics that might not be suitable for most people. The moment I read the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it. I have heard about this “killer gene” before and the idea of it intrigues me. So to find a book like this I just had to see what was going to happen. Troy and Veronica were such intense characters. Everything about them seemed to have me on the edge of my seat. I got a feel quite early on for how I thought this book was going to go turn out but even still I felt like at any moment the author could throw a curveball in. I think this is a book that definitely doesn’t need to be taken lightly but I would say is worth the read. If this is the level of work the author produces then I can’t wait to read more.

Dark, but not horror. Chatroom With A View took me a few chapters to get pulled in and then I couldn’t put it down. The story is very well written and does its job of pulling you into the psychosis of each character. Troy is an abuse survivor and just doing his best at trying to not be like his father, but when he comes home to a traumatic event, things start to unfold and you are taken on a ride wondering how it all will end.

Glenn Maynard’s, Chatroom with a View is a creepy tale. This thriller is dark. The character equally so as everything that is done is eerily calculated and all in the name of revenge and at those that have slighted him. There is violence and a whole plethora of everything that goes with a dysfunctional family and psychotic thoughts and actions.
The question though is does the DNA of a family murderer pass on down the line to create more murderers? There are a lot of moving pieces in this tale and the ending felt a bit rushed and a bit of a letdown.

Chatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard turned out to be not exactly what I was expecting. But in a creepy, thrilling, good way. I think I was expecting a bit of a serial killer/true crime expose. But instead, I got an intense thriller that kept me flipping the pages to find out what happens. This is not a light read- it is dark, raw, gritty, gripping, tense, suspenseful, and somewhat creepy. There are twists and turns, dysfunctional family dynamics, some horror, intrigue, danger, and much more. After a bit of a slow and unsteady start- the story quickly grabbed my attention and held my focus the whole way through. I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed- but these minor issues didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Dark, twisted and gripping The world the author creates is brilliant. It draws you in and twists you about and then spits you out at the end leaving the reader stunned. The writing is flawless and storyline unpredictable. Even after I had finished the book I was thinking about it and trying to rationalise my feelings about Troy. I’m not going to give much more away. If you enjoy a good, unpredictable, psychological story then this is the book for you.

Chatroom with a View dives right into the story from the beginning. There isn’t a ton of time spent on setting the scene or providing backstory like in a lot of other novels I’ve read, but I personally prefer this. Troy is a complicated character and I didn’t know how to feel about him. I felt bad for him and at the same time hated him. But he was a well written character that makes you feel many different things. Overall it’s a darker psychological thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.
