Welcome to the life and times of John the Baptist, a Messiah, a prophet, a healer, a baptizer, a loner, a lover, a bringer of great news to the Jewish people and all others who listened. This is in no way a religious book. It is writen to clarify his life, his thought, his feelings and to set right a few wrongs.

Edouard, the philosopher, believes humans will always try to take over the things of souls and the things of God and when they do they misuse the word of God to fit their own needs for power and control. Edouard’s message was to listen to the word of God, love God as God loves you, live unconditional love, all are created equal.

In his lifetime there were no people in power willing to listen to him or his message. The mangods conspired to eliminate him. He died on the whim of a dancing girl who wanted his head on a platter.

Dr. Stu has always enjoyed spending time and conversing with souls desiring to make themselves known to him. He finds it quite normal to converse with them as he would a human. When writing with them he writes what they say verbatum or as close as possible to the desired meaning, he describes pictures they present and the emotions displayed. In his last book he wrote for the soul of Sarah Tarbell, a distant cousin of his describing the harrowing tale of her abduction at age fourteen and her growth to adulthood in a very different world. In this volume he writes for the soul Edouard who enlivened the body of John the Baptist. These works are subtitled, “As His/Her Soul

This book is a break from my normal genre. This is a non-fiction story. It presents a different attitude about living life to the fullest. There are suggestions in the book that can be a benefit. I will be looking into some of them. Yes, the suggestions are for retirement age but you can start it now. The title makes you want to read this book to see what it is all about. I highly recommend this book for some suggestions to make your retirement better.

Heidi Herman gives you a glimpse into the Icelandic life and the history of the saying “On with the butter!” Although this book is geared towards those who are retired or on the brink of retiring and looking to prepare for it better, I found it to be really helpful as well.

The book starts with an introduction to Heidi and how she learned about this saying and what it means to her and how it has impacted her life. The explanation is detailed, as is the description of what life can be like when this saying hasn’t been introduced into it.

The format is one that I have not seen used in such an effective way before, each chapter deals with a different aspect of life, there are her thoughts on it, a few anecdotes from her personal experiences and then there is a challenge to go along with it.

This book is a great read if you’re looking for inspiration on how to get the best out of life, giving the little kick needed to try out new things and why it is so important to keep your zest and enjoyment of life present at all times.

So take a chance to discover what it could be like to get on with life and “Spread more Living onto Everyday Life” by saying “On With The Butter” as well!

This was an interesting and informative book about living each day to the fullest.

The author writes in a clear and easy way so it makes it all easy to understand and relate to. It give you lots of examples and ideas to try your self and I like the check list of ideas at the end of each chapter.

The author relates the information to her own experiences which is a nice personal touch and shows she has experienced the stages she is speaking about.

On With The Butter by Heidi Herman is a book designed to help you make the most out of life and learn how to adapt your way of thinking. I liked how the author provided helpful suggestions and lists of how to implement what she was talking about.
I’m not normally the type of person who will read a “self-help” book however this book I enjoyed. It didn’t feel like the author was lecturing on how you should do things and more regaling us with her own experiences and provided a basis for how we might learn from them and her. It was an interesting book to read and I found myself much more engrossed in the book than I expected.
The tone of the book for me was also quite light hearted while also having depth which I think helped me enjoy this book more. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that wants to challenge their way of thinking.

“We’ve all heard the popular expression YOLO—you only live once. We’re reminded to take advantage of the days we’re given, but how exactly do we do that?
Some people focus on finding happiness, and while that’s not a bad idea, the definition of happiness is different for everyone, so we have to figure out what makes us happy. To do that, we need to experience life in all its glory—the exciting and the mundane, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. The search might lead to peace and contentment, purposefulness, action and excitement, higher knowledge, or caretaking.
We all seek these things to one degree or another, but there’s often one desire that becomes the primary focus. Before retirement, that focus is often our job or career. But after we retire, we discover that life changes and our primary focus seems to disappear. And that’s when the exploration begins again. That’s when we find new things that challenge us or just make us smile.
As we get older, it’s easy to become consumed with our health and taking care of ourselves. We may change our diet, take prescriptions to treat medical conditions, and focus more on physical fitness. But while we’re working so hard to increase our life span, what are we doing to appreciate and make the most of that time? Those are the questions On with the Butter invites us to entertain.”

On With the Butter!: Spread More Living Into Everyday Life by Heidi Herman is in essence a self help guide full of useful tips and insights to living everyday to the fullest- especially for those who have reached retirement age.
Full of wonderful anecdotes, personal thoughts/stories/and experiences- this book aims to inspire you with lots of ideas, challenges and activities- and also provides a list of resources to help you along the way.
This was not only entertaining, but also thought-provoking, informative, educational, relatable, easy to read and understand, genuine, and interesting. It encourages the reader to embrace the thought of trying new things, stepping outside your comfort one, and challenging yourself- you may just find that these suggestions bring a little fun and purpose into your world, and enhance your life in the process.
With each chapter focusing on a particular topic- there is plenty of ‘food-for-thought’ here. Things such as: Just Say Yes, Use Innovation, Walk on the Wild Side, Celebrate Family & Heritage, Take the Scenic Route, Keep Learning, Taste Life, Give Time, Be a Hometown Tourist, Enjoy the Simple Things, Explore Nature, Be Bold, Be Playful, Just Keep Moving, and Try Something New.
So, what are you waiting for- grab a copy and…. On With The Butter!

Thank you, Heidi Herman!

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story is a love story at heart. It is also very thought provoking regarding immigration, human trafficking, and other issues on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. Ms. McGahan not only writes about the border conflicts and issue, she also add details of the beautiful desert scenery of the desert. The story sucked me in from the beginning. The story shares so many aspects of life – heartache, cultural diversity, the strength of unconditional love, and so much more.

This book was so entertaining. It kept me turning the pages wanting to know what would happen next. I couldn’t help myself but root for Becky while she goes through all of the ups and downs of life in pursuit of her dreams. There are also other wonderful characters in this story. This can be read as a standalone but it is my suggestion that you read book one first for a better experience. The author does a great job making you feel like you are right in this story. The author gets you completely invested in the story. I highly recommend this book.

The Walls Between Us by Kate McGahan was a well written book. This is the first book I have read by this author. I wasn’t really sure what I was getting myself into when I started reading the book. It definitely wasn’t something I’ve read previously. There were a lot of real issues going on in the book. Things we go through on a daily basis. Some people choose not to talk about these things because it turns into a political thing but the struggle is real.
I liked most of the characters. I was left with a lot of questions. The love story between Benito and Sarah had me asking why…but as they stated many times in the book they felt they were soulmates. I feel the book was hard to finish for me because I wasn’t interested in the subject however, I cannot give a bad review because of my preferences. I feel the author did a great job with writing and explaining the story!

I have read a couple of books from this author and she always exceeds my expectations. This is the second book of the Rebecca Steele series.I was so happy that we got to continue Becky’s journey. I love a good small town romance but this author blew my mind. You will fall in love with these characters all over again. I could not put this book down until the very end. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing story.

Becky is now living the country life. She loves living in Tennessee so she can focus more on my country music career. Becky starts realizing that her friendship could turn into something more. She is happy with her life and with her best friend by her side she can feel like she can do anything. When Becky gets thrown a curve ball she is going to have a hard choice to make. Will she make the decision that her heart wants or will she choose the safer option?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is more than your average romance book, although it is most definitely filled with love. The words from the book stayed with me long after I’d finished reading.
The book starts with Vivianna, who is looking to cross the border between Mexico and the USA with her husband, with the dream of starting a new life. When her husband is killed,Vivianna barely has time to grieve before she finds herself thrown into a new turmoil.
Sarah is looking for freedom of a different kind, when she is given a new opportunity she jumps at the chance, and more adventure awaits her as she falls in love.
These women have different goals and opportunities, but the ‘walls’ they both face change their lives forever.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a love story of a different kind filled with pain, fear and, ultimately, hope. The story moves at a fast pace,
I bet if I read it again I will find new details I may have missed. This is my first read by this author, but I will definitely look out for more stories in the future.

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story by Kate McGahan. This is a great read about romance in two different worlds and the things they have to do to survive. Its the story of Sarah who is an up and coming attorney from New York and Benito who is a photojournalist fleeing the Mexican Drug cartel. Sarah moves to the American side of Mexico to open a branch of her law firm. She meets Benito and they fall in love but the cultural differences may rip them apart. Sarah falls in love with Benito and Mexico at the same time but see some very dark things and she wants to help. Drug and human trafficking are very real on the other side of the wall that Benito and Sarah live on. Benito is trying to flee from the drug aspect and Sarah wants to help with the human trafficking. The way Mrs. McGahan describes the scenery of Mexico and Arizona makes you fall in love with it and feel like you are actually there. She also describes the horror and fear people trying to make it across the wall face in a way that you actually want to cry. This book will grab your heartstrings and you will not want to put it down. Read The Walls Between Us to find out if Benito and Sarah can break the emotional, physical and spiritual walls down to have a life together.

Good story, characters and read. This book can be read as a standalone, although after reading it, I want to go back and read the first book. In this story, Becky is living her dream life, riding horses and singing, and along for the ride is her best friend Emily. The introduction of the love interest Chance is sweet, anyone could tell that he likes Becky, but who is he really? The romance and obstacles the main character faces are all nicely written into the story, along with a nice twist, makes this story a short and fun read.

I enjoyed reading the book On With the Butter! Spread More Living onto Everyday Life by Heidi Herman. It is a wonderful book that helps you to look at life in different ways. In it are personal experiences of both the author and family that are inspirational and a joy to read about. The book challenged me and my way of thinking about life and how l live it. I enjoyed the quotes that the author put at the beginning of the chapters as well as the lists of ways to implement changes that each chapter talked about. I normally don’t read a lot of self-help books however the way that that the book is written had me feeling like I was talking to a friend who wants to share the joys of how the information has assisted her and how it can help me. Don’t miss out on an amazing book that will keep your interest until the final page. I know I can’t wait to try the examples provided within the book. I would highly recommend reading it.

Western Romances are very much a hit or miss for me. I feel that the genre has died and that they can often be replaced with the much more exciting world of YA, or Sci-Fi, however, I can eat my words when it comes to the writings of Patterson. Patterson brings the world of Western Romance back to life. The characters of both Becky and Emily warm the heart in such a way that even the darkest soul can feel the hearth burning. Becky is back in the world and adventuring on her own, with Emily there to support everything that she does and laughs along the way.
This is a quick read, which I really appreciate, as I rarely have the luxury to sit and indulge in a long read anymore and the chapters were quick and efficient with details and information. Lovers of young adult, women empowerment and coming of age will love this book. 4 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this nonfiction book about life, the living, doing and moving. This book has a few stories about how to do this plus it also gives you steps for you to follow. I found this book easy to follow and read. It gives practical ideas for you to change your life and still keep the social distance. I loved the title of this book as it makes sense with what this book will do for your life. I know that I will be trying a few suggested ideas. It is geared more towards retirement age but I think it would be good for anyone who is looking to be inspired, motivated. I highly recommend this book to help you improve your life.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rebecca Steel Finding the Dream is book two in the Rebecca Steel series by Joanne Patterson. I have yet to read book one, but I definitely will now. I don’t feel as though I needed to beforehand, I still very much enjoyed this story.

Becky is, of course, the star of the show in this story, but you get to meet some other wonderful characters along the way.
Beckys life is going better than she could have thought. Her dreams of being a country singer are becoming more real, and she’s working hard to be a success. Her relationship with her boyfriend is going from strength to strength, even with a few curve balls thrown their way. Life isn’t always sweet, but Becky works hard and you are rooting for her to get her happy ending.
There is so much packed into this story that at times I found it hard to keep up, although I usually favour stories that are more descriptive. You meet so many characters and have so many adventures that at times I would have to stop and retrace my steps slightly.
However, this is a lovely, heartwarming read and it was the perfect accompaniment to a sunny afternoon in the garden.

This book is an emotional roller coaster ride of a love story across the border of US and Mexico, between two people with two completely different personalities and outlooks. It is a very intense read and keeps the reader hooked to the book till the very end.
Two different perspectives, one can see the beauty of the border and marvel at the sight, or weep bitterly when we understand the complexities of the lives of people who are affected by it. The impact runs deep, sometimes a little dark, but truth is always hard hitting.
I am a huge fan of historic fiction. This was the first time I am reading this piece of history and it was a huge revelation for me. The book is highly educational and poignant at many places when it deals with issues of human trafficking of the victims along the border.
I sincerely believe that a good book, transforms a reader to a better human. These types of books have to be promoted, and I sincerely wish the book and the author all the success.

This was a heartwarming and eye opening read. The story is a romance but it also goes into details about what life is like when people try to cross the border between Mexico and the USA.

It follows two different women from both sides of the wall.

Vivianna travelled over the border with her husband to start a new life. When her husband dies she heads back to the border to return home. However on her journey back she falls into the hands of people who are human traffickers and her life as she knows it changes for the worst. The details and emotion of her experience really opens your eyes to what some people go through for a better life.

Sarah is a city girl. She moves to Mexico on the American side of the wall to help her company set up a law firm. She is glad of the adventure and the freedom but she doesnt expect to fall in love with the place. And also to find love.

Her love is from the opposite side of the wall and is fleeing a drug cartel. The story examines their differences and their likeness and shows that love knows no boundaries or walls.

This was a heartwarming and heartfelt read that had me captivated from the very beginning. I absolutely loved following along with these characters journeys, that took me along on an emotional rollercoaster. I loved how real and raw this book was and that this type of thing, of opposites coming together from different backgrounds, has been written about in an honest real way. That no matter how different people are from each other that you will always find something to connect on. I loved following their beautiful journey and watching their connection grow, but will it all be smooth sailing for them? Heidi Herman was born and raised in Central Illinois, but her passion and a common theme in her writing is her Icelandic heritage. After a 30-year career in business, where she authored magazine articles, white papers, and technical assessment reports, Heidi turned to fiction writing full-time, inspired by her mother’s example. In the winter of 2012, her mother, Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman, published a childhood memoir, which featured some of Iceland’s folklore. Heidi was immersed in childhood memories of the Scandinavian legends, lore, and imaginative stories. The myth of Iceland’s troll-like Christmas characters – Jólasveinar – sparked the imagination of many readers and led to Heidi writing her first book, “The Legend of the Icelandic Yule Lads.”

It was followed by two more books on Icelandic folklore: “The Guardians of Iceland and Other Icelandic Folk Tales” and “The Icelandic Yule Lads Mayhem at the North Pole.” In 2017, she co-authored and Icelandic cookbook, “Homestyle Icelandic Cooking for American Kitchens” with her mother, Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman, which won a US category in The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards that year. Heidi published her debut novel, “Her Viking Heart”, in 2018 and it was named the 2018 Foreward INDIES Book of the Year Gold Winner – Romance Category.

Her newest work, “On with The Butter: Spread More Living onto Everyday Life” was inspired when Heidi worked to complete her mother’s final work, “Never Too Late.” Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman (1925-2019) was 94 years old and had completed a year of new experiences to prove a person is never too old to enjoy life. That message, along with her mother’s example, led Heidi to write this new motivational book with ideas and encouragement on how anyone can find those activities and experiences.

Heidi currently lives in South Dakota but snowbirds south in the winter to Arizona. In addition to writing, she loves Scandinavian festivals, cooking, photography, travel, and exploring the outdoors. She is a member of the Women Fiction Writers Association and Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers.

Can a wall be seen through two people be so different? The answer is simply yes. There could be a right side and a wrong side. It depends on what side you are on. In this story, Kate McGahan shows us that in this beautifully written story. Her emotions are in the story. She puts it out there for me with her descriptive writing style. Her characters are complex and makes the story come to life. A wall is to keep someone out, and someone in. This story is about the love story of Sarah and Benito. There is a wall in the physical and mental sense of the word. Sarah is from New York, who lives in Arizona and Benito is from Mexico. Sarah works through the cultural difference between her and Benito. Will Benito fight through the cultural differences for love? I highly recommend this story. I would keep a box of Kleenex close by just in case you need them.

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story by Kate McGahan is based on a true story. One of love but nearly impossible with the boarder/wall between Mexico and America. It is also one of hardships for those who want to find a better life and one where human trafficking, drug trafficking and more take place. It is an emotional read and some of the characters were not to my liking. There are moments when the story takes us back in times and I sometimes felt a little lost. It is one of those stories that lead to what if’s as it is a real problem in today’s world.

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story by Kate McGahan – Review by Jana Teppih

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love StoryThe Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story by Kate McGahan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story is a thought provoking story by Kate McGahan. It is my first read by this writer so I cannot say anything about how it compares to her other writing which might be good as I can look at it at its own rights.
It is hard to describe my experience of reading this story and it does not happen a lot. This story makes you think and feel and it also forces you to take a stand, as a human being … it might make some people feel very uncomfortable and it might also inspire some people to change their opinions … The writer is telling the story of the wall and the people whose lives it impacts through two main characters that are in some ways as far from each other as possible while during the telling their ‘telling’ gets tied together in a memorable way.
I have to admit though that I struggled a bit with Kate’s writing style and it took me a bit to get ‘into’ it and eventually I ‘disconnected’ my critical nerdy me and simply went with the story which is haunting … so haunting … I also acknowledge that I do not have any real life experience or interaction with deeply devote Mexican women so I decided to simply let the story to take me where the writer wanted me to be taken to …
I hope that young people will find their way to this book as it will teach them a lot … about injustice … about discrimination … about kindness … about hope … and the obligation that we all have as humans to take action when we are faced with injustice and discrimination!

I must say this is one that should not be judged based off the cover and blurb alone. I was much more excited to get my hands on this novel when I saw the review coming in about the sweet and relevant love story that was in this book. I was not even one moment disappointed I dove in either Kate McGahan is a new author to me but was quick to pull me into her writing with great detail and the ability to transport me to the places we see in the story. I felt the emotions pouring off the pages of our characters and it was obvious this was a subject close to the heart of the author.

We meet these two very different people, Mexican and American, both very different backgrounds and both on opposite sides of a wall that stands for more than division. The book follows as they dive into a friendship and discover they are more alike than they ever thought. I was very impressed with the way this book played out and I am anxious to see what else is available from Kate McGahan soon!

The Walls Between Us: A Borderland Love Story is primarily a story of love interwoven around the harsh, yet picturesque environment of the borderlands that divide the United States and Mexico.
This is quite a multi-faceted and detailed story outlining all the divides between the borders. Full of heartache, danger, fear, politics, injustice, discrimination, faith, love, compassion, emotion, and hope. This story shines a light on the all too real situation that occurs daily. The struggle and hardships faced by people trying to cross the divide- is a small snapshot of a much larger issue. Encompassing social justice, human trafficking, history, politics, family, love, and much more.
There is a lot going on in a small space, and at times it did get a little confusing- which had me re-reading more than a few paragraphs to try to make sense of it all. I kept feeling like I was missing something- that little something that could prove to be vital to the bigger picture, and thus, to my perspective of it all. But I never did discover what was missing.
With flashback that help build the backstory, the story takes place on multiple timelines and locations- but ultimately all the layers, threads, and characters do connect. The story is definitely thought provoking and emotive- and left me wondering for quite a while after I had finished.
Based on a true story.

Thank you, Kate McGahan!
