Bycatch is an incredible and original story of Rex and his Vietnam experience. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It’s a book that I struggled to put down and the imagery is fantastic in this book. I feel as if I learned a lot more about how life was during these times. Not only was the story original but they’re are a number of suspenseful moments that lead to a captivating story. I’m looking forward to reading many more historical type books from this author.

This is the second book in the Grave Digger Academy series by C.A. King. Makayla and her friends are back at the academy. She’s hoping this year things will be a bit more normal, but it sure doesn’t start off that way! A portal that shouldn’t work, an inter-academy competition, and more stones being revealed…not a simple year once again. I love her character and I’m glad that more questions are being answered from book 1. I would definitely read the first book before getting in to this one. I’m hooked and excited for book 3!

The Virus of Beauty is the first book in The Virus of Beauty series by C.B. Lyall. This is a wonderful YA fantasy that has such a unique, original, and very imaginative storyline. This is the first time for me reading one of Ms. Lyall’s stories, but after finishing it I can honestly say that it won’t be the last, as I can’t wait to see where we go from here. This has a bit of an action-adventure feel, with magic, witches, wizards, a horrible virus, magical realms, romance, danger, dramatic developments, mystery, a touch of destiny, suspense, conflict, politics, and fantastic world-building. We meet Wilf, who is a wizard who prefers soccer than have anything to do with magic. But as a potent virus start affecting the witch population- hitting close to home when his friend falls victim to it too. He has inherited a journal from he father that holds the key to the cure, so Wilf will need to put aside his fears and find a way to unlock the spell and save his friend before it’s too late. A fantastic start to the series. This ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so things are set to continue in Book #2, The Veil of Corruption. Bring it on! Happy Reading!

Queen’s Destiny is the first book in the Blood Prophecy series by Barb Jones. This is my first foray into any of Ms. Jones work, so I really had no idea of what to expect going into the book. But the title, and blurb caught my attention- so I decided to take a chance and dive in. What I discovered is an original paranormal romance with vampires, werewolves, witches, prophecy, adventure, the supernatural, suspense, mystery, intrigue, action, conflict, agendas, tension, and drama- all wrapped around a battle for survival, and the powerful bloodline that brought about the whole prophecy in the first place. Amber Stone is about to have her world turned upside down- in a supernatural way. Little does she know that she has a part to play in an ancient prophecy and a battle for survival that has spanned the centuries. I really wanted to love this story far more than I did. I had a lot of trouble connecting with the characters- and therefore was left disappointed that I couldn’t invest in them and the outcome of their story the way I had hoped. There is a lot going on in the story, and it does get quite wordy at times, with a lot of information being laid out (info dumps), as well as there being a lot of characters to keep track of. I think all this caused the story to drag and lag in parts, and gave the whole thing a bit of a choppy, chewy, story… It is such an original concept that had the potential to be quite a stellar read as it holds a lot of promise, and I feel bad that it just didn’t quite work for me- but maybe it will for you. Gemma’s father died under suspicious circumstances, and her journalistic instincts can smell a story a mile off. This author did wonders with this story! I have enjoyed each book in this series. Book 5 kicked my motherly instincts into overdrive, and I felt /related to that urgency and drive to protect your children and those you love. This new world was preceded by one where you literally had to pick and choose life or death and as book 5 ends the series you see all the strides made in love, friendship, maturity and so on. Great read.

The Victor is the first book in The Freemasons series by Nicole Flockton. It is a moving second chance contemporary romance with a forced proximity element, past history, heartache, buried feelings, a marriage on the rocks, angst, push-pull, angst, miscommunication, separation, secrets, and how true love really can overcome anything. This is a wonderful start to what looks to be a superb series. I can’t wait to jump into the second book asap, and the best news is the whole series is available to read NOW- happy dance. No waiting…. WOOT!!! It appears that each book in the series will focus on a different couple, but with a recurring cast. Meaning four books, from what I can tell…. And did I mention our four leading men are Freemasons- which adds an extra layer of intrigue and mystique to the whole shebang. Cole and Ava have been separated for the past 6 month. She wants a divorce, but he intends to win her back. Will he succeed, or is this really the end? Will Cole be willing to do what it takes to prove his love and commitment to Ava? And most importantly, will Ava even consider giving him a chance to try to rekindle their love- or is it all a case of ‘too little-too late? The story is definitely worth the read to find out. An Inheritance to Die For is the fourth stand-alone book of the Cozy Mystery series by Judy Moore. As a person who hasn’t had the chance to read the previous books in the series (yet!), Ms. Moore has done a truly excellent job of creating a stand-alone installment. This fast-paced read follows Beck as she heads to Miami to investigate the death of her former roommates father. The characters are intriguing and introduced in such a way that readers can develop their own theories as we follow Beck through the quagmire of clues. This is a perfect read if you enjoy a nice mystery.

The Second View is Book #2 in The View Trilogy by Leon Stevens. It follows on from The View From Here (Book #1) and we pick up with Thomas and April as they set out on another adventure, exploring the world they discovered in Book One. They think they are prepared – but things don’t always go according to plan. This is a fantastic second instalment in this highly original and interesting sci-fi adventure series. With fantastic detailing and descriptions- Mr. Stevens easily brought his characters and ‘world’ to life, keeping me immersed in the story all the way through to the end. As I mentioned previously, I can see it making a great movie, or TV series. Bring on Book #3! Happy reading.

This book has made me a definite fan of Ciara Blume. It a contemporary romantic comedy. Georgia one of the main characters was very relatable to me. I felt like I had so much in common with her. An Inheritance to Die For is the fourth book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series by Judy Moore. As I have mentioned before, I really love a great cozy mystery, and Ms. Moore doesn’t disappoint with intriguing storylines, murder, crime & investigation, drama, suspense, danger, intrigue, family, friendship, and interesting, quirky characters. This story is very well developed and well-woven- with lots of clever touches that kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen and how everything would be tied up at the end. And as with the other books in the series, Ms. Moore cleverly built the suspense and tension- holding my attention the whole way through the story. We follow Beck to Miami, as she endeavors to help her college roommate figure out a suspicious suicide that leaves millions of dollars at stake. What happens makes for a great read. Looking forward to Book #5!

The Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire is the companion book to The Sleeping Serpent. It is from Nico’s perspective- so it made for quite and intriguing read considering what happened in The Sleeping Serpent, and Nico’s part in that story. This is psychological fiction done well- with plenty of creative touches to keep things interesting and flowing smoothly. There is a story of struggle, challenges, spiritual renewal, secrets, a search for meaning/belonging, longing, new age/spiritual/universal ideas/truths, surrender, hope, and more. In The Sleeping Serpent, Nico was bad news, but even so you couldn’t help but feel drawn to him and see his appeal, even as everything unfolded. So, it was interesting to see him stripped bare here- and then follow him as he struggles to find his way. Again, as with the first book- this was quite thought-provoking- and isn’t a story I will soon forget. Another intriguing read from Ms. Saint Claire. Looking forward to seeing what she does next! I love that this is not the only installment we are going to get of these characters! The book was fun and flirty and frustrating – a complete package!
I am a huge fan of 90’s rom coms and this was nostalgic for that type of story. The author did an incredible job of creating an homage to “You’ve Got Mail” and it even included pets! There is definitely a niche for romantic literature that includes dogs and cats because so many of us really incorporate their lives and attitudes into our own. I love doing anything that I can bring my dog along to, so the main events of this book were something I can completely relate to. The characters were unique but universal – I am sure every one reading has a friend like Kenna, and knows the jerk from high school like Bryce.
Couldn’t put this one down, and can’t wait for the next book in the series!

It’s the start of Makayla’s second year at the Grave Digger Academy. A big announcement is made that affects the entire school. Makayla was hoping this would be an easy year but she soon finds out that it won’t be. Can she survive this second year of school? Will the Grave Digger Academy be able to make a good showing and keep the school open?
This was a fun, quick read continuing on with Makayala’s story. While this is a book that focuses on supernatural beings, it also includes a lot of humor. I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading this book!

The series comes to its conclusion in the final book. This Sci-fi series takes you on a journey you may not have expected. The characters are well written and the world building the author does is amazing. Many aspects of life is brought up throughout the series and book 5 is no exception. Love, marriage, children, and so much can affect your thinking, emotions and even our future. It was great to see the support that Freya and Cam had. I appreciated the author taking the time to share the struggles Freya, Cam and the children go through and help me connect with them. It’s a greet series that I can’t wait to recommend to friends.

This book picks up where the first one left off…so you need to read the first one in order to not be lost.

If that happens, who will make sure the dead stay where they are supposed to? And…how will Makayla respond to having to go up against her brothers in the games?
I am really enjoying this series and Makayla and her group make me laugh along the way. Makayla is stronger than she realizes and I love that she is not afraid to go against the grain to figure things out. I will definitely be looking forward to the next book!

Ashley Pagano is a new author for me and I am soooo happy! She writes so beautifully and gave us a story that you can’t put down until you’re finished. This book held all the mystery and intrigue and I enjoyed the sense of a fighting spirit. It was well put together and the characters absolutely made the book! I was flipping pages, heart racing, and palms sweating more than once! A great book to travel to another world in! It had great balance and was a fun exciting read!!

This cozy mystery was definitely an interesting one. When I first read the title I wasn’t sure it was for me but after reading the synopsis and looking at the beautiful colors in the cover I decided to give it a shot. The cast of characters are quirky and everyone is mysterious in their own way. But that’s not all this cozy mystery had it was also full of adventure, drama, humor and so much more. While I have never read anything by this author before I will definitely be looking for more.

I loved the first book and moved on to this one with high hopes. It didn’t disappoint. Makayla is back in year two at the Grave Digger Academy. This years competition is more important than ever as a win means the academy remains open and a loss means the doors of the school will close. But more importantly the competition seems to have been rigged and the plot thickens as more Aegis stones surface. The characters are lovable, well developed and have great interactions. The storyline is amazing and makes for a great read. I can’t wait to read book 3.

This was my first read of this author. Never in my life have I met a main character I hated as much as Nico (well in the beginning anyway), in a storyline that kept me in its clutches until the very last word. This book was intense and made me look for further meaning. I really love that the author brings about a kind of spiritual recreation and really pushes through to the readers the human experience and its importance in our lives. This book left me mind blown!! I loved every last word!

Moby Plays the Flute is a cute kids book, with a big message. At first, I thought the book was leading toward Moby having a learning disability, or perhaps ADHD. As she was struggling, I wanted to reach out and give her a hug- her mom is not mentioned, and her dad is a deployed Marine. It saddened me that she was struggling for a full year before everything clicking and her turn around. However, my 6 year old didn’t catch on to any of that- he was just happy she learned how to play the flute and found her “hidden” gift. The artwork is wonderful, very vibrant colors and how expressive Moby is. Her facial expression and posture changes as the story progresses, and it lets us know how she is feeling. Moby has quite the fashion sense, and I love how all the colors pop. The author very clearly spelled out the meaning of the book at the end, and the importance of self love and self confidence. I love the summary of the messages at the end, along with the interactive suggestions. This book would be great for an elementary school teacher to read in class, and build a lesson around.

The way that Cheryl Burman turned a tale from where she lives into a beautiful story is simply amazing. It is my first read by this author and definitely not my last as she has a way with words and crafting a remarkable story that begged to be read.
This story follows the main character Hester from the time she was a young girl to her adult years with the trials and events that she went through. As a daughter to a farmer she longs for more than the life she lives. It is in this young age she hears the river and its nymphs calling to her. A man named Aaron prevents her from entering the river and becomes her teacher in the healing arts. This is frowned upon. This is witchcraft…but this is her calling. Hester’s desire to forge her own path in life against the ideals of society has you rooting for her every step of the way. You simply cannot put down the book. Will Hester succeed in making her own destiny? Will the river that called her be a helper or a hindrance?
This book had me hooked from the beginning. Taking you through several decades worth of pain for two families. From the Forests of Vietnam to the shores of Biloxi, Mississippi. Unsure how to review without almost rewriting the book here. Suspenseful is the best way to describe it. I did not want to put it down.

This was a very interesting piece of work for me. I have slightly been into poetry in the past so I decided to give this a try. Oh what a wild trip it was! I did struggle with a lot of words the entire book and I feel my vocabulary is rather large. I would recommend having a dictionary as you go, although the rhythm flows quite well.

Grave Digger Academy is not the place anyone wants to end up. Last year did not go well and they need to win the inter-academy competition to keep the academy open. Makayla and her friends need to win, but something is wrong with the competition. This book was a quick enjoyable read.

This is another exciting book in this series. It’s Makayla’s second year at the academy and it’s going to be filled with just as much drama and adventure as the first. The inter academy games is happening this year and the headmistress gives Makayla no choice but to sign up. So much is riding on these games. Losing would ensure the school closes for good. What would the world do without grave diggers to keep the dead six feet under?
I really like Makayla. She’s genuine, curious and has a mind of her own. She’s not afraid to go against the flow of what everyone considers the norm. She’s grown in this novel and is stronger than she realizes. I love the variety of helpers that she is collecting. The rest of the characters are quirky and unique adding humour to the story. This is a fun and entertaining book. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

An Inheritance to Die For is the fourth book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series. I was delighted to see a new book in this series. For those who haven’t read the previous books, this can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the earlier books first. Beck is excited to be on the case again. This time it takes her to Miami and the family upheaval of a former college roommate. I enjoyed this book as I had the earlier books in the series. This one deals with relationships and how they can influence perceptions and events. I liked seeing how Beck has grown and how she is coming into her own. It was also interesting to see some people who knew Beck while in school versus those who know her now. I look forward to reading more in this series and author in the future.
