The Hawke Family Complete Collection by Gwyn McNamee – Review by Jaimie Salmon-Colburn

The Hawke Family Complete CollectionThe Hawke Family Complete Collection by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Boy oh boy! Such a GREAT romantic suspense set!! Okay ,so there are SIX books total in this set (Savage Collision, Tortured Skye, Stone Sober, Building Storm, Tainted Saint, and Steele Resolve). YES, you CAN read them alone, BUT you SHOULDN’T!! Just don’t do it! You will want them all! TRUST ME!! They are all so, so good!!! They build on each other so well!! They will mention things in the others and you won’t quite know what they are referring to, but you will get the overall point in most cases. BUT you NEED to read them all! Seriously! I loved them all so much.
The Hawke family lives in New Orleans and just like the town, there is always something going on with them! Lets see…. The mob? Check!… Family issues? Of course. Check!… Workplace Drama? Unfortunately always with clubs. So, check and double check! AND Hurricanes!!!!!?? Oh geesh! Check!! What fires will this family need to deal with in this collection of contemporary suspense romance books?? Read them ALL to find out!!!!!

Savage Collision- Savage is a damaged billionaire who owns and runs a couple of upscale clubs. When a dancer’s sister comes barreling into his office he doesn’t know it yet, but his life will never be the same. He has secrets, but weather he likes it or not, he can’t keep it from coming out, or the consequences afterwards.

Tortured Skye- Skye is Savage’s sister (from book one). She works on the office side of the local hospital and although the family drives her crazy and she’s a bit snippy sometimes, she has a decent life. She likes her work, she’s been “seeing” a guy from HR, and she’s handling life and family. Unfortunately one encounter, at a Hawke Family event no less, has her life flipped upside down. She’s really being tortured at this point!

Stone Sober-
Stone is the younger brother of Savage and Skye (from book one and two). He is a lawyer at an older firm but he still has ties to his home town and unfortunately some dangerous people there. Coming home and setting up shop for himself is looking better and better. But, he’s a control freak who can’t control his life right now! Between the mob and an off limits employee of the family, his world is spinning. He can’t control himself and he finds himself rushing into things unprepared. Hard as stone but a sweet cupcake can make it all burn to the ground!

Building Storm-
Storm is another Hawke sister (from the previous books). She hasn’t really been living. At all. Going through the motions on auto pilot isn’t truly living. Everyone sees it. Even her daughter. She’s failing. The Hawke family means well, but they’re driving her insane trying to control everything. She can’t rely on anyone. She has to take care of her life and her daughter. She can do it alone and she has to. Storms are crashing around in her brain and stomach as she tries to navigate what her new life should be like. The guilt, hurt, and anger are so much. The inferno that ruined her life, flashes like a deja vu, and losing everything has her fighting for her breath and her life!

Tainted Saint-
Saint is a bouncer at one of the Hawkeye Clubs. He’s an ex ball player which gives him the perfect build to put anyone in their place if they even try to step out of line and break any of the club rules. Working for the Hawke family has been anything but boring though! There is ALWAYS something going on in one of the clubs, bars, restaurants, or businesses. Trouble is just attracted to them! Between lovers, one night stands, family drama, and the Italian Mob…. who knows what will happen to this family next! Unfortunately for him, he failed them when keeping an eye on a family member, so his life is a bit up in the air since the fire. Caroline is a reporter and a friend of the Hawke family. She’s reporting on a masquerade party and she’s excited for some of the fun. Being anonymous gives her the courage to step outside her normal box. With secrets everywhere things are about to change for this family, again.!! And of course Saint and Caroline are being scooped right into the story with them all.

Steele Resolve-
Steele (aka Luca Abello) is a mob boss. Taking over for his father was never in his plans. He wanted nothing to do with him or anything that he did. His father sent him and his mother away because the truth of what he is. He isn’t to be trusted. His father was bad enough, but now that Luca is in town the Hawke family is on edge. Not knowing what Luca is up to is keeping them and their businesses on their toes. Knowing it all, Byron has a hard time staying away. Yes, at first he didn’t know who he was, but now they are both risking it all because they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Secrets and guilt are ripping the poor Hawke family apart. And this rift could ruin a lot along the way. The Hawke’s are the only people Luca has ever cared about and now they are on opposite sides.

What an ending!! Talk about coming full circle. I loved this set!!!! I can’t wait to read the prequel that just came out!! Sad to see this story end, but I am excited to read some of Gwyn’s other books!!!! Think I found another favorite author!! You HAVE TO READ THIS SET!!!!!

I have to admit when I met Skye in the first book of this series I did not like her very much at all but of course as you get to know her in this book you truly grow to understand her so much better and she will weave her way into your heart. Gabe on the other hand I loved right from book one. These are two characters are definitely made for each other and while they both have demons to face and things to work out you will be hooked on their story and where it takes you right from the very start. This author has created wonderful characters that I am looking forward to getting to know even more as the series develops and a fantastic storyline filled intrigue, heart and steam!! My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this story! The way Rhia thinks of herself, I felt like she was horrendous looking, but Emerys thinks he is the most beautiful girl and I fell in love with their relationship. I can’t really fault Rhia for being so mean and stand offish towards Emerys in the beginning, she is only sixteen and is newly married, what girl is thinking of getting married at that age! Watching them learn more about each other, and their hopes and dreams for the future of their kingdom is sweet, and both are extremely brave. The wildmen are a fun addition, the whole book I kept thinking why don’t they just form an alliance!? I liked how the author wrote in the interactions between them and the wildmen. Drystan, is Rhia’s older brother and he has a romance going on with Rhia’s lady’s maid of sorts, Wynny, and I would be very interested to see their continuing love bloom as well as Rhia and Emerys, and to see what becomes of their peasant kingdom. I hope there is more to come!

Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 2) by Byrd Nash – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #2)Delicious Death by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Delicious Death is the second book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand-alone but is best enjoyed as a continuation of the series so you can follow Elinor’s development and the slow-burn romance from the start.
This series has a gaslamp fantasy feel, set in a fictional world. Elinor’s abilities as a medium help her to solve mysteries as well as helping people who are grieving and having difficulty letting go of those they’ve lost.
Delicious Death is a fun read for fans of food, as the story takes place at a competition between six top chefs. Details about the food, and Elinor’s awareness and appreciation of good quality cooking, are essential to solving the mystery. We also hear about the many tasty delights she encounters along the way!
Elinor’s medical friend, Dr Charlotte LaRue, accompanies her to the event and proves indispensable, not least to fainting noblewomen. It’s great to see her character developing and she brings some interesting science to the story as we learn about poisons and how they could be detected.
This is an entertaining read – a rich fantasy setting with an intriguing mystery and plenty of other storylines flowing through it. The next two books are due to come out in February and April this year and I can’t wait to read them!

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1) by R.L. Dunn – Review by Lisa Helmick

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1)Handle With Care by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This story was a huge struggle for me. Getting into the characters and feeling for them was virtually nonexistent. I did a few but there is way too many characters (with code names and military titles) introduced to remember who is who and which name they go by. Flynn is one of the few who pulled my sympathy and worry.

I have read this authors books in the past. In fact some of these characters were in the stories I read. Some I love and others are like this one. If you are in the medical profession and military you will probably understand the lingo used in here. I am neither and was left thinking like I was at the doc office and they are talking a foreign language.

Overall this one is over my head and it struggled to hold my interest because I just did not care. The suspense part was well planned but thats the best I can say. Pick this up if you like medical and military jargon with characters galore.

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1)Handle With Care by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book one of the series. It is a spin off of another series buy this author but can be completely read without having read the original series. I didn’t read the original series and found that I could stay caught up with everything in the book. This book is a romantic suspense genre but I found it to have more suspense than romance. The twists and turn this books takes was everything I didn’t know that I needed. It does have some romance but not as much as I have read in other romantic suspense books. I think that this is great as it will appeal to the romance lover but also the thrill seeker readers. I highly recommend reading this quick read when you are wanting to escape from the day to day. It is well written and will have you constantly turning the pages to see what happens. I am new to this author and will be completing this series along with reading the original series.

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1)Handle With Care by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love that this series is a spin off from Chase Security Series. It made me want to keep reading. Dr. Hunter Montgomery is Chief Medical Officer of Chase Care. He had recently lost the love of his life and partner. So basically he is just doing his job, nothing else, no romance, just work. Selma Bryant who is also a Doctor has reappeared in Hunter’s life, but not for long. She has secretly loved Hunter, but now was not the right time. As she is leaving New Orleans and heading out with Doctors Abroad to Africa. What happens next? No Spoilers, I recommend you read this series. The author has once again sucked me in. This is a medical thriller with twists and turns that will keep you reading. I love that some of the characters from Chase Security appear in this series as well. While this story has a lot of medical information, it is also easy to follow. Romance is in the air, but suspense runs this romantic thriller.

My first favorite book of 2023. A romantic suspense that will have you putting the DO NOT DISTURB sign on everything. Hunt, Selma, Flynn and the rest of the gang are involved in some deep drama and undercover adventure. I was drawn in right from the start and engaged with Hunt and Selma, they are a power couple that come with baggage, but work hard to power through it. With deadly antagonists to find and take out, the drama is real and can turn at a heartbeat. The romance is flowing. As Kieran says, it’s “the Chase flu” in the water (love the humor in the story. The characters are very relatable and easy to feel like you could know them. The plot line is thick and has a few subplots that magically all come right back together. I love the teamwork of the characters. The flow of the story is perfect. This book is fantastic and I loved it. It would get more than 5 stars if I were allowed.

Emelia De Rosa is the princess of her family and exactly who Dominic is looking to capture. Once he gets her, he quickly learns that she is more than meets the eye. Emelia is a force all her own. Which side will come out on top and will they be able to deny the attraction they feel for the enemy? I love love love Emelia! My favorite character in a book filled with great characters.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dorian is an assassin with a spotless reputation until one night in Miami it all goes wrong, when a stranger walks in front of him as he is just about to take the kill shot, Dorian’s world is plunged into turmoil.

Augustine is in the wrong place at the wrong time and when he is wounded by a stray bullet he wonders how this could have happened, but when the hospital assigns a Physical Therapy trainer to him he starts questioning everything in his life.

I have read some of Naomi’s paranormal books and they are thrilling and sends to magical worlds and realms, so I was a little surprise to read a contemporary Romance book from her. That being said it was still full of the brilliant writing and the story draw you in, the characters are charming and the writing shows the vulnerability of the male characters. I am trying not to give too much away because this is a truly great love story.

Reading this book you will go through the emotions with all the characters and I am glad that you got to find out about all the characters not just Augustine and Dorian. Thank you for a truly brilliant, well written read.

Gwynn McNamee has written this collection with such passion and spice. Each book had me feeling all the heightened emotions from anger to empathy and unconditional love. I could not put this down after I fell in love with the characters of the Hawke family and friends.

Definitely recommend the collection! You will not want to wait to dive straight into the next book!

Grifter? Triple Check.

Look, it’s not like I have a choice about being born into a family of conmen, or women- technically. A girl’s got to survive, and by the looks of the new town I’m forced into, it’s time to step up my game.

It doesn’t take long to survey my prey, steal a souvenir, and get stopped by a panty-melting local who steals a kiss.

That kiss is poison. Not really, but the emotional kind that forces me to face the fact.

If I give up my precious v-card to a guy, he’s the kind who would take it. Dangerous. Sexy as hell and just as deadly. Distracting enough that I somehow managed to get caught… but will I escape?

Savage Start is an enemies-to-lovers, new adult bully romance with plenty of angst, and the prequel to Riley and Cole’s duet Savage Lies and Savage Truth.

This book contains mature content that some readers may find disturbing. It is not a standalone and does end in a cliffhanger that continues with Savage Lies.

The Hawke Family Complete Collection by Gwyn McNamee – Review by April McCoy

The Hawke Family Complete CollectionThe Hawke Family Complete Collection by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Gwyn McNamee gives us a heart throb thrilling series with six books in total. Things start with a bang when Danika faces off with Savage Hawke in book number 1 titled Savage Collision. Sparks fly and you can definitely cut the tension with a knife! After answers about her sister, Danika doesn’t expect to develop the feels and Savage is pleasantly surprised. This book was a rollercoaster that put me in a state of determination to see what came next and what more the author had to offer.

In book 2 titled Tortured Skye we see a female member of the Hawke family burning the pages with another sultry tale of angst and heavy chemistry. Cue Gabe. The best thing aside from keeping me on my toes was the face we were previously introduced to Skye and I am a sucker for seeing a character grow and develop throughout the series! Book two held its weight as a great addition to the growing series.

Stone Sober or book 3 was one I read from beginning to end in one sitting. There was enough build up that I needed to consume it wholly. At this point Gwynn has me hook line and sinker and Stone and Nora took home the cake here. The dynamic between them was so out of left field in the most perfect way and his gruff, straight sex appeal versus her school girl saint naivety had a duo that just had me right up in my feels. by far my favourite *so far* of the series. I honestly think that if you are reading this review and wanting to start the series on book three…DONT DO IT. I don’t know that the effect would be the same if you didn’t have the full story to build on the world these characters are living in and the rules they play by. As always Gywn gave us a solid read that left us fantasizing about our own Stone.

Book 4 called building storm left a storm in my heart. Total goals was the character Storm showcased and I think the reason the book was so addicting was the fact that at some level angst, pain and difficulty are all relatable. This duo had me sobbing and I really didn’t want it to end!

Book 5 was Tainted Saint and it was a definite tale of don’t judge a book by its cover. Saint and Carolines dynamic was fire. They both project whether willingly or not, different people than who they are deep down and I wasn’t sure this duo would survive to the end. Gwyn has a way of entwining us into these peoples lives where you feel as if you are experiencing their emotions and rooting them the whole way through! Another book in the series I couldn’t have put down even if I wanted to!!

All good things come to an end and for this blazing box set Steel Resolve brought it home. The risks were high, my fingers cramped from gripping the edge of my seat and this was a real curveball. I enjoyed the deviation as it kept the series fresh. Left opportunity. Luca is SOMETHING ELSE and man, I was sweating more than once. A true nail biter with this balanced beautifully with the glimpses into the softer side of the hardest people.

The Husbands

What an introduction from a new to me author. I was intrigued by the description and decided to give it a try and I’m not regretting my decision.

You think the book is heading one way and it then takes a turn which I loved. Augustine and Dorian’s lives are changed in a split second and they have no idea the impact for quite some time.

This is definitely not like a book I have read before and I enjoyed that more than I expected to. Hope I get a chance to read more in the future.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book two in the series of the gas lamp fantasy genre. I’ve grown fond of Madame Chalamet and her talents for ghost talking. We are introduced into a new city with some new characters and another mystery. There’s a lot of action that doesn’t require Chalamet’s skills as a ghost talker but she sure does get into a mystery. Can’t wait to read book three!

A Dowry of Snails and Mud by Brittany Tucker

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. A Dowry of Snails and Mud is a fun read. I was hooked from the beginning. I would definitely read it if I was younger. The adult in me couldn’t turn it down.

Rhiannon is a peasant and she is to be married off to a Prince. This doesn’t sit well with her at all. She doesn’t like it and she makes that known. Then after she is married things seem to get worse. Can she save her village? What about her marriage? The quote I chose for Rhiannon is: “You haven’t kissed me, you mad milksop.”

Emerys is the Prince and he’s to be married off to someone he doesn’t know the name of. All because he stood up to his father. He’d much rather bird watch and collect rocks, but he can’t. Can he help his new bride save her village? The quote I chose for Emerys is: “Would it be so bad to share that business? Like it or not, we’re husband and wife now.”

Highly recommended for YA Historical Romance lovers.

Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 1) by Byrd Nash – Review by Brandy Vaughn

Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #1)Ghost Talker by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book one in the historical gas lamp fantasy series. This is my first time reading this genre. I’m enjoying this novel! It’s set in my favorite time period historically. There’s judacious use of metaphors and impressive world building. I laughed at the use of a woman’s weapon described as man-stopper! Mediums are ghost talkers in the wonderful mystery with a little bit of romance.

Underboss’s Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Underboss’s Retaliation is the 2nd book in the Dark Mafia Romance series. I did not read the first book, and still enjoyed this one. I could tell it was an ongoing story, and there was references to previous events. However, the author provided enough detail that it wasn’t lacking. It is similar to other mafia romance books, but I really enjoyed it. The characters are well written, and their love and devotion to the Family is undeniable. It had a good balance of suspense and romance. Dominic is strong and loyal, but can be sweet under his terrifying outside. Emelia is feisty as all get out, and I love how strong females tend to be written in these books. I look forward to reading the rest of the

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari

This is book 2 and continues with the Larussio family going up against the De Rosa family. This book picks up where book 1 ended. Even giving a glimpse into book 1 in the first few pages.

This time the story is primarily about Dominic and Emelia. Which they are from opposite families that are enemies. So the first few chapters kind of give that Romeo and Juliet vibe. I love how Emelia is shown to be stronger than thought to be!

Emelia and Dominic cross a line that can never be un-crossed and no matter what one of them would have to give up their family lineage if they wanted to be together. Emelia shows just how strong she is and Dominic shows her how far he will go to protect her.

I can’t wait to follow more of this family and see how this all plays out. I’m glad that each one is centered around a particular person.

5/5 Stars

The Husbands by Naomi Valkyrie

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. The Husbands was a great read. The author has great writing skill. So far I can’t choose a favorite for the author.

Augustine was shot in the arm and lost use of it. Now he’s suffering and making everyone else suffer. He doesn’t mean to take it out on his wife. Then he runs into an old friend. The quote I chose for Augustine is: “I’d have slept longer, but the food lured me awake. What do you have planned for the day?”

Dorian takes odd jobs now and again. He really can’t rest until he knows someone is alright. Will he ever be able to do that? The quote I chose for Dorian is: “Successful. Did you do anything interesting while I was gone, besides turn our house into a Halloween playground?”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

My Pearl Heart by J.N. Sheats – Review by Michelle Austin

My Pearl HeartMy Pearl Heart by J.N. Sheats
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a really good 4 star read. Once I started I didn’t want to put it down. Jasmine was great, I really liked her. She is a strong woman who owns her own business with her best friend. She shares a kiss with James and gets a shocker when she finds out he’s engaged to her friend. This is where things start to get difficult. It’s not easy having a business with your friend, especially when she is engaged to the man you have some steamy feelings for. Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. Will James go through with the marriage or will he go with his heart? If you’re looking for a good romance, 1-click and get started today.
