The Letter Carrier by L.C. Lewis – Review by Jenique Bornman

The Letter CarrierThe Letter Carrier by Laurie L.C. Lewis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first non romance book I’ve read in a VERY LONG time. And it is now in my top 5 reads for 2022.
The research, time and care that went into writing this book resonates through every line.
What was extra special about this book was that it’s a story not really told. We mostly hear about what the Jewish community went through during WWll, and easily forget that other countries were kept captives in their own homes. Michelle’s story is something really special and extremely eye opening. The way that her faith carried her through this trying time is something I will always remember.

This is a must read for any Historical Fiction Fan!!

Remember to Forget Me (Too Lost To Love, #1)Remember to Forget Me by Hazel Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading this book there’s NO WAY you’ll be able to say that you do not believe in kismet.
Two children meet by chance, then just when they admit they’re feelings to themselves BAM!! a brutal event rips them apart….. But luckily fate has a different plan for these two….
A chance meeting brings them face to face and then….. well you’ll just have to read it to find out.

This book should be turned into a movie!! It was absolutely amazing. The storyline is absolutely perfect and the characters are beautifully written.
Definitely on my top 10 list for 2022

Something About Aimee (Girls from the Street Book 1) by S.E. Smith – Review by Jenique Bornman

Something About Aimee (Girls from the Street Book 1)Something About Aimee by S.E. Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a spur of the moment read… and boy was I surprised!!! I feel that the cover doesn’t really do this book justice. The story is superb and the characters are great especially Wheels aka Aimee. She’s a strong independent woman who saves the handsome prince, nit onc, but twice.. who saw that coming?

Excellent character building. My only critique is I would have loved to hear more about Aimee’s back story

If you’re looking for a fun short vacation read this book is perfect for you.
It has the complete story line of a 300 + page book wrapped up in 150 pages.

Two broken people find each other at the perfect time. Bella needs someone to love and protect her and Levi needs someone to love and protect but also someone to push him. They are perfect for each other.

Great storyline, superb character development. I’m excited to read the next one.

Castor’s Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars Book 2) by Tai James – Review by Jenique Bornman

Castor's Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars # 2)Castor’s Kiss by Tai James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I absolutely love a strong, asskicking, take no prisoners FMC. Mia delivers, but not only that she also has a soft side. Even strong women need to be loved……that’s when we meet Castor, her soul mate.

The thing that I loved most about this book is the suspense. Everytime you think, okay now she’s saved BAM, something new and more terrible happens. Great second book from an amazing series.

Reigning Hearts: The Complete Series (Books 1-5) by KG Fletcher – Review by Jenique Bornman

Reigning Hearts: The Complete Series (Books 1-5)Reigning Hearts: The Complete Series by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was introduced to this series through the audio books.

I listened to the first 3 and then I was waiting for the next books to be released in audio.
But then I was so excited to see all 5 books in one, I just had to get it.

Here are some thoughts on the books

Book 1
K.G Fletcher’s writing has this way to transport you into the here and now of what the characters are experiencing.
Em and Cappy are two characters that I couldn’t find one fault in. I absolutely adored their friends to lovers story especially because it’s a few years later and they still had this spark between them. It makes you believe that love does last.

Book2
Two broken hearts, ripped apart their loved ones. They come together and help each other cope with their loss….. with this heartwrenching romance, it gave me all the feels and I couldn’t stop listening. The storyline was amazing and these characters where even better then the first book in the series.
Ps. the little twist mmmmm……

Book 3
It just goes to show you, the saying “never judge a book by its cover” is so true. In this case it’s a character.
When K.G. Fletcher introduced us to Fiona in the first installment of the Reigning Hearts series, as Thomas Capshaw’s girlfriend, I absolutely hated her. BUT when I started listening to A Sun So Bright the depths of Fiona’s character was revealed and I fell in love with her.
Chris on the other hand….. INSTA-LOVE
This was again a superb book in the Reigning Hearts series and as the series develops so does K.G. Fletcher’s writing.

And then Book 4 & 5….. WOW they are the best yet in the series.

This is an absolute steal for all 5

With South Africa heading towards winter, this is the perfect “cosy next to the fire” read. It’s short and sweet and was exactly the fun lighthearted read I needed after all the dark stuff I’ve read.
The characters are superbly written and the really grow through out the book especially Patrick. His personal growth and emotional maturing really resonates with me.
A great book yet again from this talented author

I haven’t read a YA book in a while and this book was the perfect palette cleanser after all the sad books I’ve read lately.
Abby Hill with her spooky talent gave me a thrilling read with an amazing never been written (that I know of) storyline.
The author did a superb job with the balance between spooky and YA.
It’s the first book I’ve read by this author bit definitely not the last. (Just clicked following)

This is exactly the kind of book that I LOVE!! The kind where you get so frustrated with the characters because they can’t see what is right in front of them. You just want to scream at them.
The author really takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. She had my laughing out loud at times, screaming in frustration and ofcourse bawling my eyes out.

If you want to read something that captivates every single emotion you have, read this

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

You know a book is worth every penny when you wake up in the middle of the night just to read one more chapter, or hide out in the bathroom to read just one more chapter. That’s exactly what this book did to me. Every spare moment I had I was reading this.
And with the way these characters are superbly written no one could say differently.
If I had them at my side I would say “bring on the end of the world as we know it”

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blindsided!!! The perfect title for this book.
After being glued to this book for the last 2 days, I’m not sure how to put into words how amazing it is.
The author took us on a journey, from the first words I read I fell in love with this author. Her talent for character building is out of this world. Each character was needed in this book and just elevated the storyline.
This book isn’t your normal run of the mil “boy next door”, “enemies to lovers” or even “bully romance”. It’s like all these genre’s went and had a genre baby all mixed together.
Absolutely 100% worth the read.

Well the was completely unexpected!!! Who would have thought that a woman can bring the MC president to his knees, (in a good way)
This book was unlike any other MC book I’ve ever read (listened to)
First of the FMC is amazing!!! She is strong willed, independent and just plain badass but she also has her vulnerable side. Then there’s Drummer!! Yummmm if you look up alpha male in ther dictionary you’ll find a picture of him. Until…. a broken down bike brings HER into his life.
The book has tension, action and A LOT of steamy scenes. An Absolute Must Read

Just when you think you know an author and what to expect, especially after just finishing the first books, BAMMM she slaps you upside the head and says pay attention.
I was not expecting to love this book so much.
I gave the first book in the series 4 stars because I felt there was something lacking in the story. Well this one definitely makes up for it.
The characters are superbly written and the story development is so good.
I really appreciate that the author elevated the story to where it is now.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of apocalyptic and dystopian series on TV, so when I saw this I HAD to get it. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
The author did an amazing job with building up the chemistry between the love interests and the action and suspenseful atmosphere that she creates is superbly developed.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I felt there was something missing with the back stories of the characters and what happened.

What an amazing retelling of a cult classic. The twist with the MMF just elevates the story to new heights. This is definitely NOT a kids fairytale, ADULTS ONLY!!! This book is HOOOTTTT
I feel that A.J. Morrow did the original justice with her take on Cinderella. Although there is no pumpkin it is absolutely amazing and the characters are superbly written with a storyline that grabs you until the end….. and what an end!!! Cliffhanger!!!!!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Decisions and Possibilities by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Jenique Bornman

Decisions and Possibilities (Notebook Mysteries #2)Decisions and Possibilities by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book definitely gave me some Sherlock Holmes vibes but then I also remembered there’s a movie Enola Holmes and that is even a better description of how amazing this book is.
Once I started reading the book I realized that this is the second book, so I went and read the first one before continuing. I highly recommend that you read Emma first.

Kimberly Mullins has a great talent with world building and her attention to detail is out of this world. The way she molds the characters and story together is done masterfully.

I highly recommend this book for young adults and mystery lovers

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Jenique Bornman

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you ever been so frustrated, overtired and filled with so much RAGE that only one little thing will push you over the edge….. Well this is where Marcy finds herself. One nightmare has driven her to the brink of uncomfortable RAGE. She’s alienated everyone close to her. And now to make matters worse the man she loves has given her an ultimatum, she has to get help or it’s over (what an ass).
Just when she thinks life can’t get any worse she gets held at gunpoint…. that’s when it happens, that’s the point where her RAGE gets pushed over the edge of no return.
But as luck will have it, that’s when she meets the one person that might just be able to get her back from the brink of disaster.

This is a, on the edge of your seat, nail bitting, page turning kind of book.
Linda Burson knows how to hook you into a book coma. Marcy is a very well thought out character. The storyline definitely leaves you wondering. Don’t blink or you will miss something and believe me you will not want to miss anything.
Great start to a great series.

And what makes this even better is you het the first 3 books in 1!!!!
That’s a bonus because believe my you’re not gonna want to stop after the first book

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven Series Book 4) by AJ Renee – Review by Jenique Bornman

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven, #4)Cursed Touch by A.J. Renee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Usually when I get to the 4th book in a series I’m kind of just reading it because my OCD about finishing things is compelling me to….. BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH CURSED TOUCH. Renee does it again. She takes two characters and a story line and just propels it out of this world with her creativity.
Even though this isn’t my favorite of the Broderick Brothers I was still extremely invested in this story.
Who would have thought that your neighbor’s bad luck could end up being your *right place at the right time*.

Blake and Holly shows us that even when life gives you lemons you can make lemonade.
This book is about two people who come from two different very tragic pasts and how by finding each other they heal.
I absolutely loved that the book wasn’t just sad and filled with drama, the humor in the book definitely gave it an extra layer.
Stunning book

Unlikely in Love (A Parker Lake Novel Book 1) by Olivia Sherwood – Review by Jenique Bornman

Unlikely in Love (A Parker Lake Novel Book 1)Unlikely in Love by Olivia Sherwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s impossible for two broken people to be in a relationship, or is it.

Wyatt James Holloway did three tours overseas and he’s seen the worst of the worst. He doesn’t really believe that there’s allot of good left in the world.
He really struggles with PTSD and the scar on his face is a constant reminder of the stuff he just wants to put in his past.

Annabelle Cleaver just lost the person she loved the most in the entire world. Granny was the one who took her in when even her mother didn’t want her and now, now that person is gone and she has to pick herself up and through her Granny the craziest “Life Celebration”. Even with all the planning she can’t help but feel lost.

In steps Mr. Hot Army Muscles, Wyatt Holloway, her old high school crush and he wants a job, and what does Annie do? She gives him one of course.

The sexual tension can be cut with a knife and the more the work together the more they start to feel for each other. Will these two broken people be able to heal each other or will old scars and relationships break them?

The reason I gave this book a five star rating was purely because of the way it was written and the way the story flows. The story progresses at a nice slow and easy pace. They don’t just jump into bed the first time they see each other. As the story flows you think that this relationship is moving perfectly and just when you think everything is perfect Olivia surprises us and throws us a curve ball. (and makes me stay up past two in the morning just to finish it.)

Definitely found a new author to follow.

The first time I read the ending (yes first, this is my 4th time reading this book but first listen) I was completely blown away by the talent D.M. Earl possess. And now add to that the amazing narration Torii Alaniz does and it just brings it to a whole new level.

D.M. Earl wrapped up the story in an expertly crafted way that satisfies readers and crazy fans like myself.
If you’re interested in this book and you haven’t read the first two I would highly recommend you read those first. But be warned…… grab onto your seat you’re in for a wild ride.

Kingdom of War (Kingdom Journals Volume 4) AUDIO BOOK by Tricia Copeland – Review by Jenique Bornman

Kingdom of War (Kingdom Journals #4)Kingdom of War by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Witches and Vampires have been at it forever and I thought that I have read all there is to this trope but then Tricia Copeland comes out of nowhere and surprises me with this gem of a series.
Kingdom of war is the 4th book in the series and I do recommend that you start this series from the beginning.
This is Hunter’s story and Tricia took us on an epic adventure with Hunter as he lives up to his vow of protecting the witch lines.
The character development is great and the storyline is well thought out. There was one or two places where I got a bit confused but it didn’t take away from the story.
The narrator also did a great job (not the voice I would fit with Hunter but still he did an amazing job)
