Wow! This box set was exactly what I needed to get our of my reading slump. Six different book and each book comes with a different pair of people, each unique in their own ways. It was hard trying to figure out which couple was my favorite. They were all wonderful and badass in their own ways. Each is a stand alone book and not needed to read the others. The writing was simply amazing and I immediately was pulled in the world that the author created in each book! I’m impressed and will definitely re-reading this boxed set!

This is a great series to binge read. Once you get started you won’t want to put them down. In my personal opinion each book was a bit better than its predecessor. The author does a great job of telling the stories of each individual brother and the women they come to love while trying to take down the man they call their father. I’m very glad I took a chance on an author that I had never heard of before because I have come to find some great stories that I want to keep going forever.

The Dark Sparrow boxset was fantastic! This author is definitely a go to for me because their books are always amazing and I never want put them down! Here are a few reviews of my favorites from this boxset!
Cold Bastard
(Dark Sparrow #2)
This is the first book that i have read by this author and i really liked it! I was pulled into the story from the start and i couldn’t put it down! The characters in this book are fantastic, even if Archer was a bit much with his attitude. But other than that i loved both him and Zoe. This book was a little dark and i liked that aspect of it. It has some unexpected events and over all i thought this was an awesome book!

Wild Bastard
(Dark Sparrow #3)
This story is all about second chances and with the history that Kai and Izzy have, there is alot going on in their lives. They work so well together but the amount of secrets weigh heavily on their shoulders and that can slowly drive people apart.
This book had a little bit of everything. There is suspense, romance, action, danger and a whole lot of drama. It an extremely well written story that i lost myself in from the moment i picked it up. I would recommend it to a friend.

True Bastard
(Dark Sparrow #4)
This story is about Liam and Catriona Walsh. They were such awesome main charcters and so different than any characters I’ve read before. Their story intrigued me and I was pulled in from page one. This book was full of emotions, drama and danger. I couldn’t get enough.

Overall this is a great boxset and it comes with 6 full length books inside! I would definitely recommend this to a friend!
Happy Reading!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my goodness, I am so glad I was able to read all 6 books at once, because I think I would have gone crazy while waiting to read the next book! This is an explosive series, full of sexy alpha males (a description I never thought I would ever use), strong, gorgeous, intelligent women, and a dark twisty story line that hooks you from the start. Over the course of 6 books we get to know 6 half-brothers, who call themselves the bastards and their father, Jamison Finch, a dark sick man, who after realizing his oldest son Lazarus, would not be taking over his empire, instead decides to use his resources to destroy his children. Lazarus a former MI6 operative has been working to take down his father and keep his brothers, Aleksei, Archer, Kai, Liam, and Sam safe. Lazarus reaches out to an old friend who runs a deep secret agency called Purgatory to help him destroy his father. The leader Beatrice is unwilling to involve her agents, but instead offers a different solution, her Dark Sparrows. Women she assisted in getting out of horrific situations and starting over with a clean slate, who have vowed to come to her aid whenever called. Each book focuses on one brother and the dark sparrow who comes into his life to help him with his specific concern. Over the course of the books, we get to see how truly evil Jamison is and the extremes he will go to destroy his sons and inflict even more damage than he already has, but we also get to see how the brothers learn to work together and fall in love with the women who come into their lives. Each story is extremely steamy and action keeps you focused until the final page. As the books progress, the subject matter does get darker, but it’s not overly descriptive with the darker elements. I love how the author is able to create strong women who were able to overcome their pasts and become the amazing women they are now., who don’t back down from a fight and will work with the men they love to overcome an evil megalomaniac bent on destruction. If you like action adventure, twists, steamy scenes, and fully developed characters who will keep you guessing until the final page this is definitely a series you will want to check out!

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reading the Dark Sparrow books 1-6 was my first encounter with India Kells’ writing, and all I can say is WOW! This book series centers around half-blood brothers who all lead very different lives, but have all been sired and abandoned by the same dangerous criminal, Jamieson Finch. Each book spotlights a brother and one of the Dark Sparrows who is recruited in by Purgatory to aid in the mission of bringing Finch down. The Dark Sparrows are women who owe their lives to Purgatory for one reason or another, and have agreed to help them if the need ever arose.

I applaud Kells on her ability to make every story unique. Each brother and female lead is vastly different in personality and lifestyle, crafting completely different storylines. I enjoyed that many of the characters I grew to love in each book before continued to make an appearance so that it didn’t feel as if they were gone and their story was over. The books are written in a way that you could read any one of them as a standalone, but I highly suggest reading them all in order as each story does have parts that link the previous books together. If you like handfuls of romance, action and suspense, this just might be the perfect world to curl up with and get lost in.

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This box set is original and the most action-packed, romantic suspense you’ll find on the market right now. This author has written six of the best books I’ve read and the best part is they are all in one set:
Lost Bastard, Cold Bastard, Wild Bastard, True Bastard, Dark Bastard,
King Bastard. Each of them is well-written and well-developed. The characters are individually defined. Though your classic battle of good and evil, it’s modernized and sexy. Finch is the evil bastard out to twist plans. The good guys win but they also hide secrets so the challenges abound in the battles. That is the best part of the story. Nothing is as it seems yet all is well. A plot that goes all over the place yet has no choppiness. The story is very engaging. I felt myself getting pulled in right from the beginning and it didn’t stop until the end of the story. I loved this set. I know you will to. Hit that one-click. You won’t regret it.

Coyote’s Road Trip by Laura Koerber

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Coyote’s Road Trip is a fantastic read. It’s entertaining and we get to see a coyote shapeshifter.

Jim is our coyote shifter in the story. His neighbors commit suicide and he does a goodbye for them. Now he’s stuck with two ghosts and traveling. He doesn’t know exactly where he’s going, but it’s got to be better than where he’s coming from. The quote I chose for Jim is: “Not around here.” I tried another sip and made another face. “Look, people believe all kinds of crap. I just know that most of its BS. Nature spirits are real. There used to be water spirits around before so many of the marshes dried up. Stars are just stars but there’s something holy about them too. Bones. Mountains. I don’t understand all this religious stuff either. How do you expect me to have all the answers? You’re ghosts. That hasn’t given you any great insights, has it?”

Highly recommended for Dystopian lovers.

Coyote's Road TripCoyote’s Road Trip by Laura Koerber

From beginning to end this story is beautiful. Although this is a story about Coyote, the shape shifter spirit…. this story is so human. The story takes place in a dystopian world affected by climate change and follows Coyote as he leaves everything behind to take a soul searching journey, or a walkabout as I like to call it. Along his journey we meet different characters and hear their stories, and although they don’t stick around for long they leave a lasting impression.
The author has managed to tell a riveting story that makes magic feel like it’s real and made Coyote feel so relatable. He is funny and complex and unpredictable. I truly enjoyed Coyote. Like I really want to gush about him because of how well written his character was. This is a rare talent in authors and I really fell in love with him. Did I say this story was beautiful? This was a quick read, and it pulls you in from the start to finish. This is a 5 star book for me.

Coyote Jim is indeed an interesting character. I’m not sure if I’ve read a book like this before, so it took me a moment to get in the groove of reading it. His journey is in the title. He leaves his home to go on a road trip to see where to go and belong in the world. He starts out with familiar spirits that tag along with him and meets others on the way. For a spirit person, I give him credit for what he’s experienced and how he lives in the modern world. If you like Dystopian spirit books, give this one a go.

This was a very good shorter paranormal story. I normally enjoy paranormal and dystopian books but I was skeptical about this one. The idea seemed odd. But I was pleasantly surprised. I really took a liking to Coyote Jim from the beginning. He’s trying to find his purpose in life and we get to go along on his journey while things aren’t great in the world. We meet some interesting characters along the way as well. Overall I think this is a really good book.

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series (A Dark Sparrow Novel) by India Kells – Review by Carrie Reed

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Star BoxSet!

I highly recommend these books and what better than to have them all at once in a set?

Book 2
Such a great book! The story was filled with steamy romance, drama and action making for an excellent read.
I just love Zoe. She is such a strong, independent, beautiful woman yet she is fragile and slightly self conscious. I am super impressed with her skills as a translator and kind of jealous she has such a great thing going for her with that. The chemistry between her and her new boss Archer is off the charts and I love them together. My heart breaks for Zoe, as sometimes she feels like she is not good enough for a man like him and then other times I want to scream at them both to just communicate better!
The drama that unfolds with Archer’s new business buy out and Zoe’s brother is super exciting and along with all the action, fighting and plotting, really gave the book that extra edge. The secondary characters are very loveable and just as interesting to get to know. I would highly recommend this book and I personally can not wait to read Kai and Izzy’s story.

Book 3
A great follow up to Cold Bastard. In this book we meet Kai and Izzy. I was so hoping for their story and my dreams came true. This book is a nice mix of romance and suspense, so it will have you engrossed the whole way through.
Kai’s father is a douche and Kai will stop at nothing to bring his father’s company down while also dealing with this feelings for Izzy. Izzy was brought in to help bring Kai’s father’s business down but at the same time her past secrets are revealed. Izzy is a strong woman, and her personality had me loving her from the very beginning. I do wish Kai and Izzy were not in so many compromising situations, or I could see them together quicker, but then we wouldn’t have a great story right?
Second chance romance is one of my top favorite genres, so this book was perfect and everything I wanted for Izzy and Kai. I would recommend reading to find out if Izzy and Kai can make it through all of this drama. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you start from the beginning. This author never disappoints.

Book 4
5 stars!
I love India Kells! This is the fourth book in the series and it could be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading the previous three, it is nice to be introduced to the brothers starting with the first book. I love how all of the brothers are half brothers and have formed bond so tight because of their one common goal, to take their father down. Liam and Catriona’s story had me hooked as much as the previous stories. The characters were nicely developed and the story was easy to follow and get lost in. I can totally understand Catriona’s choice to become a nun, but I can also see the strong attraction and pull she has to Liam, so of course I was rooting for her to ditch the sisterhood and get her man. Liam, I was happy to hear that he at least had some love growing up with his uncle, but being thrust into the world of his father, Jamison Finch, he knew nothing but violence and defiantly no love. Meeting Catriona I see him finding love in his life again, and he deserves it. This story has a lot of action, romance, drama, and suspense, it is the perfect combination. I really can’t wait to see what happens with the next brother Sam since that epilogue had me on the hook!

Book 5
I love that this series is not based solely on romance, but that there is action and drama. It sucks to see the brothers all still fighting their father, he is seriously deranged! My heart broke in the beginning to learn how Ellie and Sam were both feeling about life, but seriously awesome twist that Sam happens to call Ellie’s phone instead of his brothers and a bond forms between them. I liked watching Sam and Ellie dealing with and surviving in Jamison’s home and being basically held prisoner. The bond between the brothers, even though they haven’t known each other long is beautiful. Watching Ellie and Sam fight their inner demons and come together is sweet. At the end we get a glimpse of the next story which is involving Lazarus, fantastic name, and I have been most excited to read his story!

Book 6
Excellent ending to the Dark Sparrow series. I was happy to finally get to see what was going on with Lazarus and to see if he would get his own happily ever after. As with the first five books in the series, this author really has a way with getting you hooked. Sasha is such a strong and independent woman, and she seems like just the right type of woman that Lazarus would need by his side. The trauma she has to go through while being held captive and then fighting Jamison alongside everyone else makes her truly awesome to me. Lazarus, like all his brothers before, acts like Sasha needs protected and can’t defend herself, and I know it is all for fear of losing her, but we know she is a total baddie and could handle anything that is thrown at her. I wish the ending was a little more dramatic, but I was very satisfied especially with the epilogue.

This was an enjoyable ready. It is a historical cosy mystery. The author does an amazing job with the characters. I especially love the character of Alyssa. She is a very strong willed and determined character which ladies didn’t tend to be in that era.

The Vardoger Boy (The Forerunner Saga Book 2) by Jay Veloso Batista – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

The Vardoger Boy (Forerunner Series)The Vardoger Boy by Jay Veloso Batista
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Vardoger Boy is the second book in The Forerunner Series. There’s a summary of the previous book at the start, but it is best enjoyed after reading Thorfinn and the Witch’s Curse.

This is an exciting story with fantasy elements set in the UK during Viking times. Having lived near York/Jorvik, I enjoyed recognising familiar sites and landmarks! There’s plenty of historical detail and the author really brings the world to life with multisensory descriptions. It really captured my imagination!

I particularly liked the depictions of women. There are shieldmaidens, who are as at home on the battlefield as male warriors. But there are also women who prefer working with needles than swords who prove ready to fight when the need arises. Kara is a wonderful character, and it’s particularly interesting seeing her grow in understanding as she sees a new side of the women in her life.

I would recommend this series to readers who enjoy historical fantasy, especially those interested in Vikings and Norse mythology! It gets five stars from me, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

The Prospect of Death (An Alyssa Chalmers Cozy Mystery) by Carmen Radtke – Review by Jennifer Gordon

The Prospect of Death (Alyssa Chalmers mysteries, #2)The Prospect of Death by Carmen Radtke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical cozy mystery, which had me hooked from page one. Set in 1862, our heroine, Alyssa Chalmers is one of a group of Victorian emigrants, who have arrived in British Columbia, having traveled by boat from Australia, to be brides. However, Alyssa is a very reluctant bride, but luckily she is a rather good intrepid sleuth, who all her friends turn to when there is a murder. The victim is the hotel owner in the prospectors’ town “Run’s End”, and along with the dead body, the gold which is stored there is also found to have something wrong with it. All the brides turn to Alyssa to find the murderer. However, the killer is both desperate and cunning and the epidemic outbreak complicates things further. The storyline had me gripped and the plot twists and turns kept me guessing until the last page. The characters are all wonderfully detailed, but Alyssa is particularly likeable and relatable and I was so engaged with her, that I felt I was solving the case alongside her. The descriptive narrative along with the added historical details bring both the setting and the era vividly to life. I could not put this book down, and I look forward to future books in this series, and I particularly look forward to meeting Alyssa Chalmers again!

This was a very fun tale. 4 friends and their tales. All showing how similar but also how very different these friendships are. Friendship and adventure lead through each tale, as well as the strength of each individual. This was an interesting read and I love anything Greek Mythology. The road it takes you down is one of fairy tale and myth all in one. I would read this and other tales again.

I enjoyed the multiple points of view that you get to experience this book through, and the different aspects that brings to the story.
This is still a relatively new author to me but the more of her work I read the more I am enjoying of it. I thought this was a strong start to a new series and I am looking forward to whatever is to come next.

Romance under Aquarius: Stargazing Series #1 by Danielle Jacks

This is not the first book I’ve read by the author. Romance under Aquarius is a fantastic read and will leave you wanting more. This is the first book in the Stargazing Series. There were four main characters, but two that stuck out the most.

Maris is a merperson and can’t wait to get married. Her best friend is concerned about her doing an arranged marriage, but it’s what her family had planned for her. She then catches her best friend and future husband in bed together. The quote I chose for Maris is: “Don’t feel bad for me. Ryn seems like a nice merman.”

Kasper will do anything to save his brother. Including finding a merperson to help him out. He doesn’t want to trust her, but it becomes inevitable once he gets to know her. He wants to pursue a relationship with her, but isn’t sure where to start. The quote I chose for Kasper is: “Fine. Yes. I’m jealous . Are you happy now?”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Romance lovers.

This may be a new author for me, but I will definitely go after this series. I was in total suspense throughout the story. Fighting against drugs is hard enough. But when friends and family are dragged into it. Makes finding the Kronilan Drugs and getting it off the streets a priority. DEA Agents Grant York and Josh McKenzie are assigned this task, are they ready? Can they find the culprit? Read on as I give you no Spoilers. The characters are easy to like and help keep you reading. While the story is fast paced, you will not want to put it down. This author has done her research and spun this into a Can’t Stop Reading intense story.

JP made the decision to not pull the trigger. He hesitated and now he lives with that hesitation. He lives with the deaths of his brothers.
JP comes home and struggles with life, life as a husband, and life as a father. And he pushes everyone away trying to deal with PTSD and struggles with his horrible thoughts. With the impending weakening of the magnetic field and the sun, he tries to restore his relationships with his wife and son and also face himself.
A couple times I struggled with the back and forth, but overall it was a very good story about the struggles of those who return from seeing horrible things in war.

This book is unmatched! We meet Jake – a dog who growls at everything! He even growls when he is happy and having fun! This is a great way to teach kids to be kind to everyone, even if they aren’t as you typically would expect them to be. The Loving Kindness activities are a fantastic addition to instill positive thinking, thankfulness, and kindness to ourselves and others from an early age. I could definitely have used a book like this growing up, would have saved me a lot of therapy dollars retraining my thinking!

Good message, good for all ages, and an adorable dog character… what’s not to love?? Thanks Samantha for sharing Jake with us!!

Human Hearts (Draco Sang Trilogy Book 3) by Mary Beesley – Review by Jenni Bishop

Human Hearts (Draco Sang #3)Human Hearts by Mary Beesley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars

Human Hearts is the final book in this unique YA fantasy trilogy. What an epic conclusion it is. Mary is one great storyteller.

The story is told by three main POV which enriches the narrative in this page-turner. The characters are well crafted and developed and you can feel their emotions. The writing is beautifully crafted, the world building is vivid and creative and the plot is cleverly woven and is thrilling, interesting and highly engaging.

Three warriors who have been fighting to find themselves but also fighting for survival and the journey has been real and raw.

It is a story where you need to go into it blind and enjoy every moment in the discovery.

Human Hearts (Draco Sang Trilogy Book 3) by Mary Beesley – Review by Bobbi Wagner

Human Hearts (Draco Sang #3)Human Hearts by Mary Beesley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this fantasy story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my most enjoyable. I enjoy how she used her writing skills to pull you into the story. It makes you feel as if you are a part of the story. This is a well written story about sacrificing love and the cost of that said love. I enjoyed how the characters brought the story to life. They kept the story engaging and had me coming back for more. They have great growth and chemistry throughout the story. They brought so much to the story. You don’t want to miss this final conclusion to the Drako Song series. I highly recommend this book.
