My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jake the Growling Dog is back in the third installment of his series. When he smells something unfamiliar on his trail in the backyard, Jake is scared. But when he finds out where the smell is coming from and who it belongs to, he makes a new friend!

These stories are such great ones for children. The rhyming is a great way to keep the kids interested in the story, and the illustrations are beautiful. The author also includes additional resources and activities at the end of the book, which is fantastic for parents, teachers, etc. Jake’s stories always have a wonderful message to them, and can help children face their fears and overcome them.

Spooked By a Suspicion by Risa Nyman is the second book in the series that follows the adventures of Rocky. I really enjoyed the first book and so I was only too happy to see what he gets up to in this latest instalment.
Rocky has been through quite a bit since we met him in the first book, he’s had to make quite a few major adjustments. But now his life is about to be up-ended once more when his mother announces that she will be getting married again. Rocky doesn’t like his prospective step-father and suspects that Ted is up to no good. When Rocky is setup for a crime he didn’t commit, he can’t help but feel that Ted is behind it all, and so Rocky sets out to investigate and prove himself innocent. What happens makes for a great read.
An children’s adventure story with mystery, suspense, drama, and emotion. The story is aimed at tweenage children (9 – 13), but can also be enjoyed by older readers too, like me.

Thank you, Risa Nyman!

I read this story with my oldest, who is 4 years old. Although it seems like it would be better for older kids, I still think the lesson resonated with my 4 year old as well! It was a great learning tool, especially with the activities at the end. It brought a simple yet serious conversation (as serious as one can get with a younger kiddo) that might not have happened as organically had I not picked up this book to read with him! Already looking forward to reading some of the other Jake The Growling Dog books!

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail is the 3rd book in the Jake the Growling Dog children’s book series by Samantha Shannon.
This book was absolutely adorable! My daughter and I had a cuddle together and read this story and she loved it! The pictures are beautiful, and the story was very touching and had a great way of helping kids to understand about disabilities and that we really are all the same no matter what we look like.
Jake has a trail that he walks each day. On this trail, he meets friends, but one day when he and a friend see new prints on the trail, they become scared of what might be on the trail and if it might be able to hurt them.
Samantha Shannon has done a great job of having Jake and his friend use their imagination to think of what the prints may be from. When Jake later meets what the prints are from, he realizes that he had simply never encountered someone like this before and that they were friendly and just like him on the inside but a little different on the outside and that was ok!
As an early childhood educator, I really think this book would do fantastic in schools and daycares, especially in kindergarten and grade 1 classes and I will be mentioning it, and this series of books, to my many teacher and ECE friends for the upcoming school year!

If you have little ones in your life, I highly recommend this book, and series, for their book collection!
My daughter and I cannot wait to find out what Jake’s next adventure is all about!

This was a cute read! I really enjoyed when Jake went to daycare, and this book was just as fun! I tried reading it to my infant daughter but she was more interested in our puppy than she was the fictional one. I thought this book was cute, sweet, engaging and so fun for children. I really love the extra stuff at the end, the activities for parent to do with their children and the guides for fear and worries in children. I think this is a great book for parents to buy for their children of all ages!

I loved reading this! My kids loved it even more. They’ve asked me to read it to them over and over. Jake and the Growling Dog Shares His Trail is a wonderful story of overcoming your fears and how to be kind. I love how it’s educational in a way that kids will understand. Jake and the Growling Dog Shares His Trail allow conversations to begin and questions to be asked by my kids. It also helps me answer some questions and give examples on how to behave, using Jake as an example. What Would Jake Do?

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail is an adorable children’s tale by Samantha Shannon.

One of the greatest things about the Jake the Growling Dog series, is that it always has some sort of lesson to be learned in the story. This particular tale teaches us that it’s ok for people to be different. When the Jake finds prints that are different than his, he is fearful. When the prints turn out to be another dog with a disability, Jake feels silly.

All of the Jake the Growling Dog books also include questions and activities at the end. This is a great, light hearted read about series issues a kid can face in school, day care, or just in general when out with mom and dad. I think these stories really open up the door for conversations about real life obstacles and feelings.

This short children’s book was so good, I love the story line of making friends and learning to be friends. How not to be scared. The illustrations in the book were just amazing. I really enjoyed the little activities and information that was in the book about children being scared and what to do, as an early learning childhood educator this really made the book even better. Learning these things with your child is something that can help then with everything in life. An all-around great children’s book.

Jake the growling dog shares his trail is a wonderful children’s book about overcoming fears and accepting the differences of some people. I love the way Jake overcomes his fear and makes a new friend along the way. He’s fun and energetic and is such a great book for kids. It teaches you about differences and how it doesn’t change who you are or what you can do. If you have kids I recommend this book to read to them.

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail (Jake the Growling Dog Book 3) by Samantha Shannon is just as wonderful as the first two installments in this series. Ms. Shannon gives us adorable fluffy characters that you can’t help but fall in love with alone with a fun and entertaining story for all ages. The animal illustrations are simply adorable and will leave you wishing you could just pet every character and give them lots of treats and love, while the scenery illustrations are beautiful and breathtaking. Not only are these books super adorable and enjoyable but my five year old daughter loves them and can’t wait for the next Jake story.

This is a great, sweet, and fun book to read with underlying lessons. This demonstrates how we can all be different and still work all together. Jake finds a different set of paw prints on his trail which makes him stressed and uneasy. Join Jake and his friends while they try to uncover the mystery. The illustrations were amazing and fun to follow along with the story. I was so happy to read this first book from the author, that I did a little research. An interesting fact that I found is that the Jake books are based off a real dog! I would highly recommend this for growing children!

Fist, this is an amazing series of books! I love Jake the Growling Dog!! This one in particular, Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail really resonated with me. If I had, had something like this when I was young I would not have felt so alone with all my fears. I love the illustrations, I love that Jake never goes through something alone. I especially loved that this one had visible disability representation as well! Just so many good things, I can’t praise enough. Also that at the end it gives helpful tips on how to work through fears and does not belittle the fact that everyone has them. Loved it, would recommend to anyone! Well done Samantha Shannon with the story and Lei Yang on Illustrations.

I really like the Jake the Growling Dog series. Jake smells something new on his trail, and it scares him. His friends come over and they check it out together. What do they find? Just another dog, but he is different.
We are all different in our own ways, but when there are disabilities involved, kids don’t always want to talk to them or make friends. This was a great reminder that we all want friends. The activities in the back are amazing also! They totally give opportunities to talk to your kid(s) about differences, how to be a good friend, and how to just be a good person.

This is a fantastic children’s book. The illustrations were creative and beautiful. I believe you are never to young to enjoy a great children’s book. This story made me smile from ear to ear from beginning to end. Jake finds himself unsure when he sees different paw prints on his favorite walking trail. What kind of animal would it be? As Jake’s friends of Luna, Bodhi and Neet try and help Jake to not be scared and help him find who these paw prints belong to. The group meets Tuck and the story unfolds from there. I highly recommend this children’s story that is full of fun, mystery and compassion.

“Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail” written by Samantha Shannon is a very well written children’s book concentrating on disability awareness and making new friends! Jake finds strange tracks on his trail and he is filled with worry. His friends offer to help find this mysterious creature, and they set off! They soon meet a new friend along the trail, named Tuck. With Tuck’s assistance, they find that even though someone may have differences, these differences are nothing to be frightened of. When reading this book out loud to my children, they were delighted to point out the clever rhyming words. The author makes great use of description words as well! I found the book to be very creative.

This amazing story of Jake and his friends is a wonderful resource to help kids navigate the fear of meeting new people. When fear takes hold of the mind of a child it can grow into something that disturbs sleep and the way they approach life. The story itself shows that is not scary to meet a new person who is different from you. New people can be new friends. The extra activities and resources in the back of the book are great conversation starting points and ways to have children and adults interact to keep the discussion going. I would definately recommend this for the children in your life.

It’s such a good little read for parents and kids to have a jumping off point to talk about hard things.

This is an ADORABLE story about a dog being afraid of something he doesn’t understand. He meets a new friend that doesn’t quite look the same as him and his friends. However, they all quickly realize that it doesn’t matter.
I enjoyed this story. It’s perfect for small children to understand that different doesn’t mean you need to be afraid. Sometimes different is the same it just doesn’t look the same. I think the story is beautifully written and the illustrations wonderfully done.

A sweet little story for your little ones. Jake is supported by his friends to get through his fears, and does lots of exploring in this rhyming read. The characters are fun and memorable, and there’s lots of little details about animals and nature to make this a playful read. The illustrations are beautiful, and really bring out the wonder in this tale. A good read that reminds us that everyone is different, and differences don’t have to be scary.

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail: A Touching Tale of Sharing, Disability Awareness, Kindness and Overcoming Fears by Samantha Shannon is the third book on this absolutely wonderful series. When I saw there was another book to read I was so excited – possibly even more so than my daughter! We have reread the first two books so many times and could not wait to add this one too then. This book is just as fantastic as the others. It is educational and informative in a way that kids will understand and relate to. It is fun and entertaining while still touching on sensitive topics. This really is a brilliant series for any child to read. They are a firm favourite in our house and we are already looking forward to Jake’s next adventure.

Jake the dog is at it again! Helping children learn from his experiences and helping to overcome fear and differences. I really liked that Jake was immediately excepting of the other characters differences. I also liked that it all played out as a big mystery, showing how the mind can jump to incorrect conclusions. Similar to other Jake the Dog stories, the activities in the back are a great addition to help teach children how to respond when they experience things similar to Jake! The book would be a great addition to any classroom or great to help any parent who is looking for ways to teach their children.

This is the third book in this series that I have read. I have thoroughly enjoyed all these books. They are all have such great messages that they teach. This was probably my favorite out of all the books so far just because of the story that it told. It has such a powerful meaning to it, and I think that it is important for all children to read it for understanding that not all of us are born perfect and that there is nothing wrong with that. The illustrations are just as great in this book as the previous two. I love the animals and nature scenes. Also, at the end of the book were some great activities to help kids overcome or at least talk about their own personal fears. I highly suggest getting this book for your kids, friends, or family members kids and even for classroom teachers. It’s a great book that needs to be shared with our children.

This was a touching book. My son is older (10 years old) but when I read it to him, he also enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to kids of all ages.

Jack the Growling Dog finds weird paw prints on his normal daily trail. He does not recognize it as any animal he has ever seen before. He meets up with his other dog friends named Luna and Bodhi to find this strange creature. The dogs are scared and worried about what they might find but the trio encourage each other to push forward in this endeavor.

This book touches a subject most kids don’t really understand on their own which is don’t judge a person (or dog) by how they look.

Another bonus for me personally when I was reading this book was one of the dog friends Bodhi. My dog’s name is also Bodhi so when I was reading this book out loud, he joined us and his ears perked up every time he heard his name!

This was a fun children’s book about the adventures of Jake, the growling dog. In this story, Jake and one of his squirrel friends come upon strange tracks on his trail. Clearly upset by this, he and his two dog friends set out to discover what would leave those tracks. Along the way, another dog, with only three legs, joins up with them and the mystery of the strange tracks is solved. This book is a wonderful story, educating children about people with physical differences and that they aren’t scary. They can even become our friends, as well.

My kids absolutely LOVED this story! This is the first Jake book we have read but we will definitely be reading others. Samantha Shannon has created a beautiful way of teaching kids about their world. In this book, Jake and his friends learn about facing fears, leaning on one another in times of need, and making and accepting new friends, even when they are a little different. The story is engaging and gives plenty of opportunity for discussion. As a mother of special needs children, this story warmed my heart. Jake is a fun and loveable, rambunctious little dog that is relatable to children. The pictures in the book are detailed with vibrant and eye-catching colors. They are perfect for helping young readers to follow the story. This definitely is a book that, in my opinion, needs to be read by an adult or slightly more advanced reader, as there are some challenging words, but it makes story time as a family fun!

My kiddos and I love the Jake the growling dog stories! There are so many opportunities to learn while reading and having fun. In this book Jake and Neet discover some new tracks and don’t know what to make of them. They worry and let their imaginations run wild which even as an adult I can be known to do. In fear they run home and hide. The next day though they gather some friends and go investigate. Brave pups that they are they find the culprit and a wonderful new friend who due to his disability was the cause of the strange tracks. I love that this book shows children how to be supportive of each other no matter what and help Jake conquer his fear. I also love how it shows children it’s okay to be different and that doesn’t make anyone any less of a person or animal. The activities included at the end of the book make this a great teaching tool and makes it a fun way for children to practice what this book teaches or to work through their own uncertainties or fears.
