Tally and the Angel is a cute story geared for 7-12-year-old children. Eleanor Dixon did an amazing job writing this story. The level of detail allows readers to really visualize the story. The plotline has the elements of fantasy, mystery, adventure, and bravery. The characters are enchanted. This is the story of Tally and her very own Angel. Tally received a pendant after the saddest day (her mom’s death), it has the Angel Jophiel living inside it. One would think that having an angel with you would be awesome, but Tally learns that it is not always the best gift. The adventure that you take with Tally and Angel Jophiel has some twists and turns, ups and downs, and some scary stuff they get into. Will Tally and Angel Jophiel be able to enjoy the adventure? Can Tally and Angel Jophiel stay focused on the positive side of things or will there be some bad things that they cannot overcome? I highly recommend this book as I found it an interesting story.

This book is an inspiring collection of experiences, thoughts, feelings and emotions centred around life with a special needs child. It is a life of struggle, hardship, ups and downs but overall rewards as you see them flourish despite their many challenges they face. Marcia Nathai-Balkisson talks about all these things and more, as she explores life before and after the birth of her second child Emma in Trinidad and Tobago, where she lives with her husband, Emma and her first born some Brian. She talks about the challenges she has faced and how she has overcome some and is working on overcoming the rest, as each chapter focuses on a different subject, it is a compendium of information, hints, tips, experiences, and advice, with a checklist at the end of the important things to be taken away from that particular chapter, but it is not just for those in the same situation as she is, there are things within this book that anyone can take on board and use in their own lives.
The book starts with the story of Emma’s birth and the defects they found which led to the need for open heart surgery as she grew and the complications which arose because of it, leaving her brain damaged, her mobility and motility reduced, as well as experiencing pain, spasms and a high sensitivity to touch. The book progresses through Emma’s life, explaining her challenges between that age and the age of nine when the book was written. It then moves on to explain how important it is to acknowledge what happened, acknowledge how it made you feel at the time and acknowledge what changes have had to be made and what needs to be done now. The next talks about coping with the situation and the need to take it day by day, task by task and finding what the single most important thing to achieve on that day is, how important self care is to staying healthy in order to be able to support your family and yourself, how to relieve stress and how essential it is to start the day in the right way, it also explains how these things can impact on the child and their stress levels if not done properly. There is also a section on planning for the future, both immediate and in the years ahead, this includes financially, personally and familially, some of which is expanded on further into the book.
One key thing is on how to recognise isolation and loneliness, how to recognise the signs of it and how to reduce it, it talks about relationships with family and friends, how they can grow and diminish, as well and what it takes to maintain them, how to deal with your feelings and how important connections can be, even if they are only on the internet and especially within support groups, as well as the importance of sharing your story with them. It also looks at how to create your vision for the future, how to connect it with your emotions and then the importance of looking back on it and updating it on a yearly basis to see just how far you have come, even if you don’t realise it at the time. The next section focuses on spirituality and how this can support you in your darkest times, as well as the need for research into what interventions can be done at home to improve the development of your child, as well as finding the right medical professionals and therapists who you can fully work with knowing they see things from your perspective, trusting your intuition and being your own advocate when you go to speak with them. Learn all you can about other children with the same medical and developmental issues, but don’t forget about any other children in the family and ensure that you still take time to show them you love them in the way best suited to them, keep looking at their development and help them as much as your special needs child and prepare for their future just as much as the other child too. Another important thing is to keep your own and your families health at optimum levels and take the same care that you would with your child, look at nutrition, sleep and emotional resilience, as well as financial security and how to keep a balance between work, play, caring duties and your own physical and mental health, make shared decisions and compromise where you need to, do not neglect yourself or your partner and celebrate what you have achieved regularly. Make sure that the little milestones are recorded and acknowledged, celebrate how far you have come, this will help in the future when the challenging times rear their heads, which will happen.
All in all this book is full of useful information and experiences, but it does not replace medical or legal advice.

Marcia shares her heart and soul and a life of having a special needs child. She tells of the fear, the unknown, the pain and loss and not having the support and advice and trying to navigate the new situation she found herself in. She has written this book t be able to share her experiences, dreams and hopes that it will help someone else on their journey to a new reality and strange new world.

Vibrant Illustrations with a Big Message! Amazing book for children to learn about extinction on their level! I loved the illustrations and the songs used throughout. It was a short read (perfect for its target audience) filled with a big message. My young son was enthralled by the vibrant illustrations on each page and it made conversation easy on a harsh subject. This would be the perfect addition to a curriculum on extinction in the classroom. The book does an excellent job of showing that even the littlest creatures can make the biggest differences!

Adorable book that helps children learn about saving the environment. Loved the use of a cute bird to help portray such an important message. I do feel that there is a slight disconnect between identifying the issue and the steps that were taken to solve it. I think it would benefit to have explored why the issue is happening, so the solutions discussed in the book would make more sense, especially for young minds. I love that there are resources at the end of the book to help take it a step further for children to be able to explore what steps can be taken for a greener world! It is also a great addition to have the internet and some forms of social media play a role in the book, as these are things used by children every day. This book would make a great addition to any classroom or household.

This is an amazing book. It takes a lot to share a story this personal. The author has my respect for sharing such a personal story about her daughter, Em, and her experiences with her and raising her family. Being the mother of a son with special needs and now raising a grandson with special needs, this book will hold a special place in my heart. Every thing she writes of is true. The praise and the judgement of others. The looks, the condemnation because others don’t believe in what you are doing for you child. She gives tips that every parent of a child with special needs should know and remember: coping with the situation after diagnosis; you are not alone – getting support; create your vision – what do you want for your child; getting interventions together; don’t forget the rest of your family; and other topics. My biggest take-away from this book is do not forget self-care. It is so easy to forget when you are tied up taking care of your child. You need to take care of yourself or you will end up run down and sick. You can’t take care of anyone if you don’t take care of yourself first. The fact that she did a lot of this in Trinidad and Tobago, where there was not a lot of medical care available shows how strong “special” parents are. We will do anything for our children. Thank you for sharing your story, Ms. Balkissoon.

“This book is how Mornin worked with other birds, animals, and children around the world, to spread the word of saving nature for the good of us all.”
Mornin the Super Bird: Mornin Finds a Way to Stop Extinction is a children’s environmental awareness story by Jules Hartley; illustrations by Diego A. Diaz. It is a cute story written in a simple, easy to understand way- with a lyrical and poetic style to the writing. The ‘sing-song’ style would definitely appeal to children and the author aims to bring awareness to environmental issues, animal protection, animal extinction, global warming, recycling, and pollution. These issues were explored with Mornin the Super Bird, who goes above and beyond to spread the message and save his friends. Environmental education wrapped up in a cute story.

This is a cute little kid book that I think would be a perfect bedtime story to read. I think that it’s a great lesson book to teach your kids about animal extinction that is taking place around us. It’s got a wonderful message that this is happening all over the Earth and that something needs to be done to help with this issue. The illustrations are lovely. The colors are beautiful and are perfectly done to go along with the story. In fact, there are a couple of the pictures I think would make beautiful pieces or artwork. I also loved that this story not only incorporated the mother of the bird, but the father as well. This is something that I have found to be an issue with children’s books today. They do not seem to add the father to the story at all but this one did. And I loved it. Pick this up for your kid or as a gift for another one no matter their age group. It’s a story worth sharing.

Dr. Marcia Nathai-Balkissoon gives a glimpse of what life is like while caring for a child affected by a severe brain injury. This book provides guidance to parents facing similar challenges in their families, from someone who has walked this path. Despite all the challenges, Dr. Marcia Nathai-Balkissoon finds joy in the simple moments, and through this, provides hope to others. This book is a must read for parents on a similar journey, raising a child with unique challenges.

Such a sweet kids book, I really enjoyed the pictures and the message that was being conveyed. The art is beautiful and I like how its not the same style all throughout, it gives my eyes more to look at. The message the book gives off is that we need to help our world and the animals that live in it by being cleaner, such as recycling, not using plastic, cleaning up after yourself and not leaving trash laying around outside. It is heartbreaking to know that animals are going extinct and if these small changes in our lifestyle could help prevent that then I think it’s a wonderful lesson to teach our kids and has really opened my eyes as well!

Tally is a young teenager who just lost her mother. She is given a necklace from her mother with an angel pendant on it. The angel’s name is Jophiel. He is kind of like a guardian angel to Tally as she and her father embark on a trip to India. Tally is excited because she will be homeschooled and gets to travel with her father. She is looking forward to new adventures. She finds herself on a new and dangerous adventure once they are settled in their new city. She and her new friend, Balvan, try to figure out the case of the missing girls. Learn true facts about India as you read about some of the trouble that finds Tally. I liked the characters in the book. Jophiel is a wonderful character because he reminds her to be a good person and if she strays, he tends to get her back on the path.

My 6-year-old daughter and I read this book together. There were lots of words she didn’t understand so was a great teaching moment. My favorite part of the whole book was the theme, no matter how small you are there is always something you can do to help make change. Mornin learns that there are extinct birds and brainstorms ways that they can help, including getting friends involved. The pictures were a great compliment to the story keeping my daughter engaged.

I loved this book with all my heart. I am a bird fanatic and I am a person who enjoys sketching and watching birds from afar for a hobby. So this one being about a friendly, smart bird named Mornin I was immediately intrigued.
From reading on and reading the wonderful story. I was deeply touched. As Mornin takes his photos and realizes what he sees and does not like…is something I actually think about often!
Mornin the special productive bird he was saw signs that worried him about his family, friends, and other species. He called forth then a meeting with other birds in the community how they can stop this growing problem which is extinction of other species. The community worked together tremendously they planted trees, recycled, avoided the use of plastic, an even planted some brand new trees into the ground! They did so much more as well! Anything possible to help the world and the environment.
Other birds and families in different communities learned of what Mornin had done and they all began to follow in his tracks! It was truly wonderful to read this book and learn what the world can do if they work together to make the world itself a better living place.
Again this book was truly touching to me as I m one who feels if we don’t take care of the environment now we wont have one to live in. And reading it showed thru support and love if everyone works together how much can truly be accomplished!
Thank you to this amazing author and illustrator. This was such a cute story and truly everyone of all ages should read this. Its truly heart felt and an eye opener!

This book is a great gift for any of your littles! Your children, nephews, nieces, cousins, Etc! I like the message of trying to save the world! It all starts with a single thought and then taking the next step and making that thought turn into actions! The moment you demonstrate the action it can become the motivation others need to make sure “extinct” doesn’t happen! The illustrations for this book were beautifully crafted! The bright colors attract the attention of the young readers the book is trying to appeal to! The author also included a way for the readers to be involved with Mornin’s plan of action! When you finish the book, ask your little “ How would you do it, if you were Mornin?”

This children’s book was adorable! As an educator, I really enjoyed what this book was about and how it was explained at a child’s level, and also how it teaches children the importance of life and what we as humans could be doing to cause it to be shorter. Mornin is a super bird who loves flying around and taking pictures and videos of where he lives. On one of his adventures, he discovers that some birds are not on earth anymore and takes it upon himself to figure out how he can prevent this from happening to his family and his wildlife friends, whom he loves. The author did a fantastic job of including many ways to spread the word about extinction, what it means for Mornin and his friends as well as how to prevent it from happening. I feel like kids of many different ages, and even adults too can relate to what is said in this book in terms of the environment and how we can change it in a good way to live a longer life. What an adorable read! I can’t wait to read the next one!

Mornin the Super Bird is an adorable character created by Jules Heartly and drawn by Diego Diaz. The book Mornin Finds a Way to Stop Extinction is a cute, fun way to explain extinction to elementary school age children. The book is geared toward kids, in a way they can understand- through pictures and songs. The birds make a video, and share it with their animal friends, who share it with their human friends, who shares it with his friends. The power of sharing and working together spreads the message far and wide, to save the animals. The book has a cute song for the kids to sing. It explains not only what extinction is, but explains what kids can do to help prevent extinction of birds like Mornin and his friends. I love that the book doesnt just talk about changes that need to happen in the world, but empowers the children to make small changes in their worlds. The book breaks it down for the kids how they can help change the world! Simple things like avoid plastic, stop littering, recycle, and turn off lights. We can all do our part and save these animals from extinction. Super adorable book, with a powerful message. This should be read in all classrooms and homes! I would say it is appropriate for 3-9 year olds.

The story is adorable all while sending a message to children that there are steps everyone can take to better our planet. Whether it’s recycling, donating items to others or simply turning off a light, we can all takes steps to be kinder to our planet and it’s lifeforms. I am going to recommend this to my kids teachers as they teach on this subject and this book would be a great addition into the elementary age group on this topic.

This childrens book delivers such a beautiful message in such a cute and inspiring way. As someone who has worked with kids her whole life I have always loved the chance to provide and read stories that have a message that is important and this is a story I would read to them everyday.

Mornin the Super Bird: Mornin Finds a Way to Stop Extinction by Jules Heartly and illustrated by Diego A. Diaz is an adorable book for both children and adults to enjoy. This is the second installment in the Mornin series, and while the illustrations are beautiful and story endearing, it also touches on a very relevant subject: extinction and the environment. A little bird called Mornin comes up with a plan to stop plants and animals from disappearing forever and puts it into action. I loved following Mornin’s plan and sharing the story with my young daughter, and it is absolutely a fantastic addition to her growing bookshelf – a book I won’t mind reading over and over with her! I hope she not only grows to love little Mornin, but also shares his concern for the environment and all its inhabitants. We both give Mornin 5 out of 5 stars!

A great illustrated book, the art and pictures in this book are so amazingly done, vibrant with color, and follow the story so well. The way the pictures follow that book are very thought out and great. It conveys a good message on the way that when you can put your mind to something you can achieve anything in life. One voice can make a difference in the world, you just need to stand up and say it no matter how small you are. This little blue bird found a way to speck his voice to be heard.

This is a super cute children book with a great message I loved how morning asked for help from his friends in helping to figure out a way to save himself and the other birds from extinction. Can they figure out a way to save themselves? I highly recommend reading this cute book especially if you have young childre. My three year old said everyone needed more popcorn because that makes everything better. What a fun read! My kids absolutely loved this story! Jules Heartly has created a family favorite character! I have four kids ages 6-11 and they related easily to the story. It was fun to see their faces light up as they tried to guess what would happen next. We hear the words “endangered” and “extinct” frequently when visiting the zoo but my kids never really thought there was much they could do to help. This book clarified for them that they can make a difference! What a fun way to teach kids about taking care of their environment. We can’t wait to read more Mornin stories!

Mornin the brave bird takes on an epic quest to save bird species from extinction in the adorable, well-written, informative book! It is very catchy, but gets straight to the point of how to create a better world to protect all living beings on the planet. It was a great book that my little niece loved (she suckered me into two readings before bedtime). Such a simple, yet vast theme that really hits home for everyone sharing space on our planet. Great start to open up big conversations for our future world leaders! Can’t wait to read further titles from the author!

Mornin The Superbird Book Two by Jules Heartly was a really good read! Not only was it sweet and super quick to read, but it had a really great message as well. My daughter enjoyed me reading this book to her and she loved seeing all the birds and the pretty colors. I think this is a great way to teach young children how to help take care of the environment while learning about extinction as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was pleasantly surprised. I think every parent needs to read this to their children!
