Designing Love (The Calderone Family Romance Series Book 3) by Victoria Grant – Review by Lisa Helmick

Designing Love (The Calderone Family Romance Book 3)Designing Love by Victoria Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

These two are so intertwined I can’t help but see them get together or not. The friend connection, the relative connection and their jobs all make them an easy mark. But what’s not so easy are their personalities…they are like oil and water at times then others..PBJ. I just never knew what I was getting from page to page. Happy couple or fighting couple. I will say that her nastiness at the job did get old when she should be in the happy happy stage of love. I struggled with Caroline more than once and it was both her attitude and actions that caused me to question her. It kinda turned Charles into a begging man which I didn’t really think fit him at all. He is a kind romantic guy. These two have many highs and lows between them.
Overall it’s a nice story. I did read it fairly quickly. The secondary characters (his family and Casey) added some much fun to this story.

Be Brave with Me (Finding Love in Green Springs Book 1) by CA Miconi – Review by Lisa Helmick

Be Brave With Me (Finding Love In Green Springs Book 1)Be Brave With Me by J.B. Havens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a cute enjoyable story! It made me chuckle at times but usually I had a smile on my face. Each of the MC had a devastation in their life. Maybe not recent but there are still repercussions as a result. I liked them both together and it’s clear they need each other. They have nice sweet, sexy, potty mouth filled times together. She is smart mouthed and he is kind. She is a take no prisoners lover…oh and so is he. They each adore Nana and the townsfolk of Green Springs.
This is an enjoyable quick read and I look forward to the next one.

PS. I love the title and how it is worked into the story.

O MG! I SO enjoyed this story!! I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to read this author. The story was deep and fulfilling. The characters are simply wonderful. I love Britt and Brooks. They are uncomfortable with relationships but are all about the one night stand. They have met up in previous stories and I have not read those books. I had no problem following along. Anyway each of these characters are unsure about going forward. I loved following along with their story..each fighting against themselves for their ultimate happiness.

The boys in the band?!? Those guys are like family but have all that sexiness. They seem to have a wonderful dynamic. I can’t wait for Maddox!!

Torch (Lovelock Book 2) by Tricia Copeland – Review by Lisa Helmick

TorchTorch by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a continuation from the last book. Troy and Jema are living off the grid, trying to survive. I loved that part of the book. Seeing what they did at their location to survive. The story surprised me at times and others it seemed in limbo. The characters are intriguing. I mean Troy and Jema are very smart and ingenious. They impress me with their maturity. When other people are added to the mix they take Troy and Jema at age value. They are always surprised when they realize what Troy and Jema can and will do to survive. I do enjoy all the coded messages, whistles and sign language among others that they use for communication. That was very cool!

Overall I didn’t love this (I really wanted to because book 1 impressed me so much). Among the action and drama there were too many lull times. I know some are expected but I was almost to the point of flipping pages during that time. The character building is good although I didn’t see much growth in the two main characters (secondary characters-yes). The world created was still great. Very different to think of the US that way. That ending??? It just blew me away! I was surprised and shocked!

Arrows Tipped with Honey (Natural Forces Book 2) by Jean Gill – Review by Lisa Helmick

Arrows Tipped with Honey (Natural Forces #2)Arrows Tipped with Honey by Jean Gill
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the series and it picks up after the last book. We get to see the aftermath of the war in the Citidel as well as how the Queen if the Bees and her partners handle it. It’s nice to get back and see what’s going on. How is Mielitta, Jannlou and Drianna handling their lives now? What about Kermon? Spying to make sure the promises from the war are handled correctly. My frustration is that this is a middle story. Not much happens other than a power struggle in the Citidel. The three friends get some enlightenment in the Forest too. It seemed to be some filler. Granted some of the information I’m sure will be used later.

The characters are interesting and have many levels. I still enjoy the whole bee part. It nice seeing this crew coming into their own.

Overall it’s a nice book. There is adventure and politic in the amazing world this author created. It is very inventive and different from other books.

Sunshine KissesSunshine Kisses by Elaine Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this sweet story. It might be a novella but it is filled with all the *feels* that I come to expect from this author. The friendship, love and devotion. It’s incredible! Crystal has a secret but wants one last fling…just in case things don’t go her way. Spenser…I LOVEd you! You are so thoughtful and devoted. I loved how you are a nerd. You see what you wanted and kept at it. Your devotion is amazing! Plus your little nickname for her is so sweet!

On a side note I enjoyed seeing Whynter and Dominic again. They add a lot here since they are besties with these two characters.

Overall I highly recommend this story. It’s full of feels. The characters draw you into the story with their plight. You can’t help but hope for the best for them. The title is perfect for this story as well as that amazing cover. Perfect! I enjoy reading this author.

So far this has been my favorite book in the series. We see a lot of action, answers to questions and shock…yes I was shocked. Things are turned upside down and I was not prepared but then I was disappointed in a certain character. But I do love watching Friday use her powers and always wondering what she is going to do next.

Anyway this is fun and like I said full of action. It kept my interest and made me want to know what was going to happen next. I was really able to stick with the characters and hope for their success. Friday’s story was a treat to read.

Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Lisa Helmick

Life's a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes, #3)Life’s a Witch by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one entertaining series! I really enjoy meeting these new characters and the crazy stuff this author comes up with is gold! We met Crimson in the last book. She is a witch with bad powers. Mike is a demon…actually the devil’s advocate. So he looks good but can’t be trusted. They have an undeniable attraction but one handshake and misspoken words is going to change it all.

I wasn’t sure about entering the demon world but this author made it so interesting. I couldn’t resist smiling and reading more. Hellions Anonymous. Ingenious! For recovering demons. What a great idea!

It was a joy reading this story. I loved it! I read it fairly quickly. Hoping there is more!

Hawk’s Cry (Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation #2) by Manda Mellett – Review by Lisa Helmick

Hawk's Cry (Satan's Devils MC Second Generation #2)Hawk’s Cry by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed the story! First off I love coming back to visit all these characters! In typical Satan Devils fashion we go on a journey through the ups and downs with these two. The story is filled with characters we know and love. Hawk and Olivia are already married so I wondered where this one would lead me. Hawk saddened and frustrated me then shocked me. His thoughts and feeling were WOW! Olive is a born and raised Princess of the Satan’s Devils. She has no desire to ever leave and is happy living amongst family and friends. But her husband has changed and she worries about his well being. She is a old lady through and through, Tough and she stands by her man.

I love how the author took old main characters and made them secondary characters. I love still seeing them but not in the spotlight. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy reading anything that had them in it. But I also enjoyed reading about their kids and their life now.

Overall this is a good story with an inside look at marriage life with a high ranking officer. I always enjoy these characters and look forward to more. This author does a great job making me love these characters then knocking me down just to pick me back up.

Enemies of Doves by Shanessa Gluhm – Review by Lisa Helmick

Enemies of DovesEnemies of Doves by Shanessa Gluhm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! I have chills at the end of this book. The drama that this author brought to pages gave me tears. I can not believe the twisty path this has taken. It is interesting how at the beginning of the book I didn’t like Joel. Then it became Clancy. But now I can see the bond they share as more of the story moves along. A lifetime of struggles. They are so intertwined. The happy times the sad times and the twisted times. I know that sometimes life stinks but for these boys it is a pile of manure. They author did a great job of making me *feel* for the characters.

I am NOT a fan of stories going back and forth in time. So I had my hackles raised from the beginning. I did not care for it at times but in the end it all rolls along perfectly and I can see why the author did this.

I really ended up loving this story and the characters (although I’m heartbroken about them). It’s a wondrous ride filled with mystery, drama and suspense. I highly recommend this book!

Throwback by Zeia Jameson – Review by Lisa Helmick

ThrowbackThrowback by Zeia Jameson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The first section of this book is a nice romantic story. Seeing their past and how they got together working toward their happily ever after. The second half is where things get shaken up in their life. I sat here many times just shaking my head. At what he does and what she does. Totally frustrating. But there is a genius way for them to try to heal so they can fall in love again. The question is will it work?

This isn’t my first book by this author. I usually LOVE her work. This one I just struggled. It wasn’t the characters (I enjoyed them) it was the story telling. The first half it seemed there was too much time spent in their heads and I became easily distracted. The prologue is what kept me turning those pages (that was a great idea). The second half easily kept my interest because I was as invested as the couple was wondering “who”and “can it work”. It’s a lovely story and I did wish for their happiness. I do recommend this story because it does have a good message, its twists and turns and the characters are amazing.

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes, #2)Shift Happens by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this immensely! It’s a fun lighthearted quick read. While this book is the second in the series it is just as good as the first book. The author carried all the fun from book 1 through to this book. It is an exciting paranormal story filled with shifters, vampires and witches. There are ups and downs and I laughed multiple times. The characters are sassy, sexy and vibrant. I love Trace and Sophie together. They had fun with each other and I laughed at their comments.
In one spot she says “Great I have landed myself a clingy one. He replies with “Just call me Saran Wrap”.
I loved that comment. Perfect humor.

I look forward to more from this author and more in this series!

Southern Promises: The Complete Series (A Contemporary Romance Standalone Box Set) by K.G. Fletcher – Review by Lisa Helmick

Southern Promises: The Complete Series (A Contemporary Romance Standalone Box Set)Southern Promises: The Complete Series by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of my favorite series and I highly recommend it. There is a theme running through them all. It’s how the author is able to make these characters seem so real! I can always feel their feelings and love being in their lives. She is magic with words.
Below is a little review about each book in the series.

Georgia Clay book 1

This is a great easy to read book. I really enjoyed it. The story flowed nicely. The characters are interesting. I loved Clay. Seriously what a gentleman! Finally getting his greatest wish! He seems like a nice southern guy who just happens to be famous. His family values are an attractive quality about him. I love the times when he is with Katie. It’s like I can really “feel” the emotion each one has for the other.
Katie is a great girl. She has wonderful friends in Stacey and Dale. Even though Dale had a smallish role I resonated with him and thought he did wonderful things. Every time he was in a scene I knew it would be good.
A few things I really enjoyed were when Clay called and asked her to come to Nashville for the first time…..I wanted to squeal right along with her! I was just as excited as she was. Also when Clay is singing on stage in the Bluebird. I got chills from everyone’s reactions to him. I won’t even talk about the end of the book..that one brought possible tears. Hartford…what to say about him?? What an amazing brother and he made me laugh and chuckle. Oh and I don’t want to forget the little game called “What would happen if?”

Georgia on my mind book 2

This is the second book in the Southern Promises series. I enjoyed this and read it fairly quickly. One of my favorite things about this author is how she writes these characters to make them so real. Meaning I can feel their feelings right along with them. Their happiness, pain and embarrassment is mine as well. She did an extremely good job on Hart’s character. His pain and anguish? Or Joy and pleasure? It was easily seen (aka read) and felt. Color me impressed!

I was so excited to see this one is about Hartford. I enjoyed many things about him in Georgia Clay. I am glad he called out to the author for his story. It was nice to see more sides of Hart. At times he seems so serious. Then You see the lighter side of him. He is so open around his mom and sister i could almost see him as a little boy. I love when he puts his arms around the women in his life. He seems so comfortable doing that. His smile? That’s a thousand-watter..right there. I can picture that in my head! His feelings for Gia? I loved reading how excited he was to get her to have coffee with him and how worried he was about screwing up with her.

Georgia Pine book 3

The writing in this book and series is so good! Actually the story behind the writing. The heartfelt words and descriptions (characters and things) are brought to life in my imagination because of this author’s words. I can picture each of them (characters) and as I read along I am more entranced by them every second. The girls and especially Tim. There was a definite beauty and the beast theme. Just the right touch. It is a cute add to the story. I love all the different ways that Tim’s green eyes are described. Pine, emerald and forest green are just some of the ways which make it very vivid in my mind. Plus all the references to him being a beast! His scraggly beard and long unkept hair….ha ha I loved it! Then when he called Jessica his Bella I couldn’t keep the smile from my face. Jessica and her girls were great. Each of the girls had their own little quirk and their love of Tim was so evident! Seriously though Tim was my favorite character….well next to Clay (Southern Promises Book 1).

Sweet Salvation (The Protectors Series Book 3) by Toya Richardson – Review by Lisa Helmick

Sweet Salvation (The Protectors, #3)Sweet Salvation by Toya Richardson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a highly emotional story. While there is an element of danger mostly the story revolves around Manuela and Josh. What trials they have been through before they come together. Then the danger is lurking and growing stronger. Will Manuela be strong enough?

I liked this story to a point. Manuela was abused sexually, physically and mentally. We learn about what happened through flashbacks. Four months after being rescued she is mated and scared of the words he uses while they are mating. But then she asks him to tie her up and live out a fantasy? She thinks that might be better? That was just too much for me to believe. Just my personal opinion.

This is my first book by this author. It is the third in a series and we do meet up with characters from precious books. I liked the story up to a point then struggled to get through the rest.

Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham – Review by Lisa Helmick

Why (Stalker Series, #2)Why by Megan Mitcham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was glued to my kindle reading this book. It started off interesting and then became slow. Too much interest in the case. Then once the Detective started getting more involved (his times kept me riveted) it picked back up. Then it became a “hold onto your hat” wild crazy ride until the end.

The main characters were good and their connection to each other is like dogs and cats. I struggled to put the book down when they had their verbal sparring. Sparks seemed to fly! I really enjoyed Owen! He is so much more than I expected. His drive to get her is amazing! I wasn’t such a fan of the big bad lawyer(Genevieve) persona. When push comes to shove and it seemed to often…she flailed. She became a simpering woman. I got the impression she was a “take no crap” bada$$ lady but she seems to be that way in the courtroom only. She does have a wicked mouth on her and is able to spew some great comebacks to other characters.

My other issue is the time for the injuries to heal (seems non-existent) before either more are inflicted or a sexual escapade. Just seemed weird she wasn’t ever in pain past the next afternoon. I think I had this problem in the first book as well.

Overall it’s a story that gets better the further I read it. It took me into the wee hours of the morning because that ending…Whew! Totally worth it! I do recommend this book and I look forward to the next.

Romance in Rehoboth Boxed Set (Books 4-6): A Small Town Romantic Comedy Series by K.L. Montgomery – Review by Lisa Helmick

This is a wonderful Box set! I think these are the best books in the series. They all make me laugh and the characters seem lighthearted and quirky. I highly recommend getting this box set if you want hours of enjoyment. I really wish I could give this one more than 5 stars!
Below is a little bit about each one:

Badge Bunny
Book 4

I loved this book! The story was amazing and made me laugh more than once. The characters added such charm. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and all their quirks. There were a few new faces as well as many from the previous books. I laughed…well more than once and sat with a silly smile on my face while reading this captivating story.

Chris! You are a sweetie who doesn’t turn down a good dare. He wanted to be a cop because that is the closest he can come to being a Super Hero! So sweet and nerdie at the same time! I know being a cop is dangerous but I can’t help but laugh out loud when you apprehend suspects. Your thoughts and antics made this book super funny. Oh..oh and Pub Golf?!? I loved reading about that…all of it!

Wedding War
Book 5

This is a wonderfully written story! The whole idea of this huge chain store coming in and ruining all the mom and pop stores is realistic. But when Jason and Hannah decide to wage war against them with Brilliant devious pranks that’s when the story really comes to life. Add in the secret that tore their two families apart 20 years ago and this is one entertaining story.

Jason…..I Love everything about you! When you and Hannah were watching Seinfeld and you wanted to put your arm around her (just like a teenager on your first date) ….that made me really understand how you were feeling. Also that first kiss you laid on her was so dang sweet! Then the second? I loved reading your thoughts and how you couldn’t stand not to one more second and you HAD to kiss her. *swoon*

Stage Mom
Book 6

This is very endearing. This is a good story with insta love. There are fun times and serious times in here. The characters are great! Mateo and Larissa have good chemistry between them. Hailey is a little dream boat. This isn’t my fav of the series but it’s a good story with insta love.

All The Wrong ReasonsAll The Wrong Reasons by Erin Bevan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have REALLY enjoyed this story! I quickly read it as I was drawn into the lives of these two characters. I worried for Max that he wasn’t going to get his dream. Then I was freaked out over Alexandra, her situation and all her worries. They each have a past. Not sure Alex can overcome Max’s past…trust becomes an issue. But their chemistry is easily felt coming off the pages! When they are together? Max is just so…so sexy!

I loved being inside Max’s head! The things he thinks verses what he says..especially about Alex. Max is definitely a dreamy character.

Overall I loved the story. The characters are fun yet have their own struggles. I enjoyed watching them grow and become orgasm friends.

This is a nice story of the possible relationship between neighbors. The story is good. The characters are professionals but they each have another side to them. This touches on a sensitive subject. I loved reading how each of the characters reacted to the situations. It was fun watching them fall. I don’t think I have ever read a book with an OB doctor as the main character. That was different. I liked it.

The secondary characters add some fun to this story. Each character has a crazy fun best friend. They made me laugh and gave me a different look at their friend.

This is quite an adventure. Filled with wizards, Magic and Excalibur is a retelling of a classic. While the story drew me in I struggled with the timeline of the characters. It is confusing to me and makes the story not flow very smoothly. Causing me to lose interest at times. I plugged on and the story does pick up near the end. The main character held my interest and wondering what would happen to him and the sword. There are few secondary characters who I liked and others not so much.

License to Bite (New Orleans Nocturnes, #1)License to Bite by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this story. It is a light, fun and flirty paranormal read. The story was different from other vampire stories I have read. The characters ranged from snarky to broody. Jane was tough to take at first. But then she starts coming up with all of these Edward Cullen movie references. That stuff is golden! She became more palatable after she calmed a bit and realized what a vampire life could do for her. Ethan is the broody one. He likes quiet and order. Jane is like a tsunami coming into his life. His biggest problem….she never stops talking. That give us some good times.

This is thoroughly enjoyable. I read it fairly quickly because it’s good and I love me some Vamp stories. I can’t wait to see what happens to Sophie in the next one!

OMG! Why did I not know about this book before now! I am always on the lookout for vampire books and I am so glad this one fell into my lap! This story! These vampires! That Maid! All so sassy and sexy. I devoured this book in a few hours! It’s one I read late into the night. Who was going to get the maid? What is she going to break next? Will Antoine ever smile? Will the vampire get earplugs? Ha ha that one just makes me smile. They shouldn’t listen to what they don’t want to know… right? Right?

Well this is a first time author for me. If you couldn’t tell…I LOVED this story and these characters! They are both lively. The story is engaging and easy to read with many ups and downs. I can not wait to dive into the second book to see what happens next.

Hail MaryHail Mary by Hope Anika
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVED this book! The storyline is so good! I didn’t want to put this one down! It’s smooth and flows along very effortlessly. Then there are the wonderful characters. The author is able to bring these characters to life with words. I could picture them and what they were doing easily. It is such a delight!

I enjoyed seeing a “tells it’s like it is” woman. She is strong self-assured and knows that she can do things herself. Then we meet the cantankerous sheriff. He has pain hidden deep and would like nothing more than to fade into the woodwork. But once he gets threatened with a wrench, from a “little spitfire”, he starts to wonder about his life. That’s when the fun starts. The tension between these two is just rolling off the pages! Their antics are like watching a movie in my head! Then there is the back and forth angry, desperate conversations. I can’t help but enjoy reading those. How she challenges him and how he frustrates her.

All of the secondary characters (and there is a lot) are delightful as well. They all add to the story. I loved each of their issues and how they tried to deal with them. My favorite thing was the tenants of the boarding house were mostly elderly. They All have interesting personas and reasons for being there.

This is a suspenseful story with a side of romance. I really enjoyed reading this and I highly recommend.

A Study in Spirits: A College Fae magic series #2A Study in Spirits: A College Fae magic series #2 by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this story. It’s the second in the series. In here we get to delve deeper into each of the characters we have met. While there is a problem on campus they have become involved in because of Celia’s new roomie.

There is much to love about these characters. The whole dryad (tree) Fae thing. How she can step into trees. Then in the library I loved the idea of how the books were crying having their knowledge ripped from them. Then the dryad struggled as well because….well books are paper and paper was trees…genius! Logan with his “seeing the truth” and the Japanese squirrel and the cat (Jib). All great! I don’t even know what to say about the doppelgänger. Just freaky!

I love the world this author has created. Anyone who reads paranormal fantasy should love this. It tickles the funny one and engages the grey matter.

Music Man (Romance in Rehoboth Book 1)Music Man by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is really a wonderful read! The story has its ups and downs. But really towards the end….I couldn’t put it down. Those words he wrote are worth tearing up over. The characters we have met almost all of them previously (if you read Fat Girl). This story made me like Claire, Jack and Anita more. Each showed great growth in their character. I enjoyed how not every thought of Claire was self doubt on her looks, thoughts or actions. It was nice plus she got some backbone. Jack went from a sexy man beast to an unrecognizable Star. For Anita? She surprised me the most and I have to say I loved all the Darth Vader references to her.

Overall this is a story I read really quickly. It has a nice flow and the plight of the characters kept me reading. Jacks song’s were great but even more because he wrote them for Claire. I didn’t realize he had that in him. Very Enjoyable!

Do you love books that you just can’t seem to put down? How about the ones that you read way past your bedtime? With this book I accomplished both of those! I can’t even say what made me do it. The way it was written, the characters I couldn’t say no to or or because this storyline just called to something inside me. Well..in this case it’s all three.

I ab-so-lutly LOVE the relationship these besties have and I’m not just talking about the girls. Ashton and Becker have amazing banter between them that it’s easy to tell they have been friends years. They make me laugh when they get throwing words back and forth. Even the wonderful brother sister bond is so strong. It’s easy to see why all of these kids love and protect each other.

Ashton is a dreamboat of epic proportions! I don’t think he can say or do anything wrong. In fact I have many highlighted words from this man. Everyone wants to hear what he is saying. Just to them.

I loved this story so much! The friendships, brotherhood, the protectiveness….heck even the sassy chatter and the love all make this a five star read!

Wow talk about action and suspense?! This one has it in spades! Turning from one page to the next I never knew what would happen next to this crew. That makes for an exciting read. As I said the story is explosive. The characters have skills and do thing I could or would never dream of doing. They all have troubled pasts that come back to haunt them. Keegan’s seemed just terrible. Somehow he was able to overcome and become better. His long time love Kara shows up and catches him off guard. From there they are busy bodies working two different cases to the same end.
Over all this is extremely action packed and I feel it’s a good addition to the series.

The Player (Men of WarHawks Book 2)The Player by Jacquie Biggar
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good story that Involves hockey, a feral cat and a crazy ex. All of those elements make for some fun times. I enjoyed Patience she is unsure of herself but doesn’t project that. She appears confident. The connection between these two was extra warm. Those kisses could really have went somewhere if not for that cat. The drama with the psycho ex was scary at how true it could be.

I liked this but I wish there was more. More in-depth characters, more banter with the team and more run ins with her brothers/family.
