Super Enemies by Lois Wickstrom is a super fun lighthearted fun read! I truly enjoy the way this author write’s and I just devoured this story! I really liked the fact that she showcased in this story the fact that brothers and sisters do not always get along. She was showing real life, which is something that anyone can relate to, which is not always getting along with your sibling. I think that this is a wonderful story! I cannot wait to see what the next story that comes out is about because I just love her books!!

A cute story about sibling rivalry. They can’t agree on what to do but they can agree to disagree. I found this story entertaining. It actually helped start a conversation with my grandchildren about playing nice with their brothers and sisters. Many giggles were had over the sandcastle wars. Another winner with this family. A storytime recommendation from us.w
Mira and Carl are enemies. They are also sister and brother.
They never want to do the same thing. Except, they both want to sit behind Daddy when they ride in the car. One day, Dad takes them to the beach. Carl is going to be the super hero and build a castle. Mira will be the super villain and destroy it. So, Carl builds better and stronger castles. And Mira comes up with more ingenious ways to destroy them.
Can being enemies be so much fun that it bonds them together?
Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.
Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.
She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.
Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.
Wow what a great fantasy book. I like finding different genres and this is quite a little gem. I like how the author takes the magical world and paints a wonderful story. The characters have a bit of complexity that brings depth to the story. I really like how there is a bit of drama as well as adventure. I really thought this was a good book and a little out of my genre selection but was very glad that I did read it. I will definitely be reading more from this author in future.

This was so much fun to read! It had familiar characters from other fairytales to attract children. The Queen was the fairest in the land so everyone came to her to solve their problems. What happens when the magic mirror shows that both sides are right? The Queen sends Snow White to investigate and she really that the Queen is not being fair. A perfect story to teach children to have good morals. At the back of the book you also learn how mirrors work. It’s very cool!
This was a really good book! It was colorful, the illustrations were wonderful, it had a great story and lesson about fairness inside, and it was also very enthralling! I really enjoyed reading this one. And if you continue the whole way through, you may also find a small science lesson at the end. I can’t wait to read it to my daughter when she gets older!

The Queen is the fairest ruler in the land, and is always brought issues between the other characters to come to the fairest conclusion. When she makes the fairest decision, the magic mirror shows a sparkle of fairness in her eyes. One day, a pair of dwarves come with a problem in which the Queen can’t come up with a fair solution. Snow White goes out to investigate and find a fair solution. What is the problem? Can Snow White and the Queen solve it fairly?
The queen, looking into her mirror seeks out who is doing right and being fair. The dragon, the dwarves, others in the land get the twinkle of fairness in their eyes. The queen finds she is the one not being fair. She learns that she must be fair and pay her people what they are worthy of. Then her eyes will twinkle, too.
This is a great children’s book that teaches about pardoning a Thanksgiving turkey! A family goes to buy their turkey. The youngest daughter remembers that the president pardons a turkey at Thanksgiving. Will the turkey they find get pardoned?

Again, I read this story with my youngest son. He says it’s a good story. He also said it teaches the important life lesson that you should always pay your employees… While I’m glad he got that point, I think the bigger one is to always try to treat any situation fairly. This story helps explain this to the tiny humans.
What a cute book! The story of Gwendolyn and her “challenging” events is very entertaining! It will keep you reading just to finish out your giggle. Definitely a really good adolescent read!
This book teaches a very good lesson. It really points out that you have to look at things from another’s point of view sometimes. Life isn’t always fair but if you can be fair you should. The Queen knew she wasn’t being fair and did what she could to right her wrong. Hats off to Lois for this one!

This was a cute book! I liked the illustrations in the book and the sentiment of the story. It was cute, sweet and straight to the point. I think this is a cute book for the holidays and I would highly recommend it to read to your kids!

My 5yo son and I read this story together. He thought the turkey in the story was adorable. He loved that it had a happy ending. He was very happy that we eat ham for Thanksgiving. haha It was a good story with good characters. We loved the illustrations.
This is another illustrated book by this wonderful storytelling author that I had to pick up for the kids. This one did not disappoint me either. I loved how she threw in some of the Snow White fable yet managed to make it her own without a wicked queen. In fact, the queen in this story is completely opposite and wants to help the people of her kingdom. As with most of her books there are many lessons to learn. I also love how she included a few science experiments again, but this time using a mirror. Once again, the illustrations were fabulous, and the colors jump off the page. Another terrific book to pick up for your own children or to give as gifts.

This is a fun story that incorporates voting into Thanksgiving turkey farms. A good lesson about even though their are traditions sometimes not everything has to be set in stone.

My daughter and I absolutely loved reading this book together. She loved the storyline and thought Gwendolyn was a sweet girl that she related to. Gwendolyn being a dream shifter, dreams about an elk one night and when she wakes up from her dream she is still an Elk! During hunting season no less! You follow Gwendolyn through her missteps, and she learns how to control her power, but the magician isn’t very helpful at some times. Does Gwendolyn become a girl again or does she have to remain the rest of her life as an elk?! The story was well written and my daughter who is 10 could read it with no problem, and enjoyed it immensely! I recommend it to young girls who love fairytales and a strong protagonist!
This book is just the perfect length and has a little bit of everything for the younger audience. Full of fantasy, magic, amazing characters and more I simply couldn’t put this book down. I have personally never read anything but this author but after reading this amazing tale I will definitely be looking for more. This particular book focuses on love and acceptance and I’m sure it does an amazing job of teaching that. I know I will definitely be sharing this amazing story with daughter when she’s old enough.
My kids enjoyed me reading this story. They enjoyed the transformation of the human to animals and back. It was fun. I enjoyed it with them as well. Great book to enjoy around this time.

I have read quite a few Lois Wickstrom books lately and she has become one of my favorite authors! Most of the books I’ve read by her were for the younger group but this one is more geared for 7-12 year olds. It’s the perfect length for this age group and the story is very engaging!
Gwendolyn has a special inherited trait from her grandmother. When Gwendolyn falls asleep, she becomes a dream-shifter. If she dreams about elk, she becomes one with the elk. Most of the time, she wakes up as a human girl but one night, there is a fire alarm at her home. She’s awakened suddenly to find her home on fire. Being awakened so quickly, Gwendolyn did not have time to revert back to her human form and is now stuck as an elk. She only has 3 months to fix this or she will be an elk permanently. Desperate for answers, Gwendolyn and her family start searching for any answers that might help them out, including finding the local wizard. Can she survive elk season and become the girl she was?
This book focuses on acceptance, love, and science, of which Lois Wickstrom puts into all the books she writes. It makes science more fun and interesting and this time, with a bit of a magical spin. I look forward to reading more of these longer novels by one of my favorite authors!

What a beautiful story this is. And the lesson it tells made me so happy. As an animal lover I fell in love with this book. If only all turkeys had the ending this one did getting sent to a Pardon Park. I thought that the idea of the family making the decision together after voting was a terrific addition to add because you do not see many families doing that. So technically this story teaches not only of how turkeys are pardoned by our President but also about voting to get a consensus. I loved the illustrations! They were probably some of the best that I have seen from her books. That could be because I love fall and since this story takes place in November there is a lot of fall to see. Remarkable story.
I am quite familiar with the books that this author writes. This one was longer than most of the other books that I have read and are geared towards a middle school reader and not her typical elementary school readers. This one is quite unique and like her typical stories does have a lesson to learn with it. I loved that the story that she told and how she incorporated the ability to change, or shift, into any animal that she dreams about. I will say that she had me sitting on the edge of my seat during parts of this story because it could have ended entirely different than it did. I would highly recommend this book for any middle school or advanced elementary school reader that you know. It would also make a perfect gift for giving here at the holiday season.
This book is geared toward children between the ages of nine and twelve. It’s a creative story filled with fantasy, magic and drama. Gwendolyn is a dream shifter. She becomes the animal that she’s dreaming about. She usually wakes up a girl again but one night a fire alarm jars her from her sleep. She wakes up as an elk during elk hunting season. One problem, she doesn’t know how to shift back to being human.
I’ve read many books by this author and usually they are aimed at a younger audience. This was a nice change. Personally I had a hard time with the book because I didn’t like the main character. I found her selfish and annoying. I believe children will thoroughly enjoy the book though. They will be able to relate to certain aspects of the story. Every child loves magic and talking animals.
