LUKE (DEFAULT DISTRACTION #4) by A. S. Roberts

5 out of 5 Stars

This series is amazing! The characters are fantastically flawed with luggage, not just baggage, that are trying to be better humans. The characters are funny, caring, delicate, intelligent and despite being rock stars, completely relatable.

Luke McKenzie is haunted by the trauma of his childhood and the guilt of his wife’s death. Now he is raising his daughter with the help of his bandmates. After his most recent nanny left to start a family of her own, Luke is now looking for a new one. He has to meet his daughter’s very strict list of qualifications, including loves to dance.

Nikki Osborne has recently returned home after a disastrous experience at her last nanny job. She agreed to help out the local dance instructor with some lessons while looking for her next position. When Luke finds Nikki’s advert for an opening, he thinks he has found the perfect fit for his daughter. Is she also the perfect fit for Luke?

The emotional rollercoaster the author takes you through keeps you flipping those pages. I lost track of time and couldn’t put this one down. I am a Double D girl for life.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, book 2) by Amy McKinley

5 out of 5 stars

I can’t get enough of this series!! Amy McKinley knocks another one out of the park. Nothing hotter than a growly Mafia man attracted to a strong, kickass Mafia woman. Sign me up!

The story picks up with Lil and Max on their honeymoon. Sofia La Rosa is preparing for her big Milan Fashion Week show when Ivan, a psycho Russian Bratva killer, starts tracking her. Sofia knows what he wants and is unwilling to part with the information. When her overprotective brothers ask Enzo, the love of Sofia’s life, to help protect Sofia when she is in Milan for her fashion show, Sofia knows it is a bad idea.

Enzo Vitale is poised to take over the family to become the Don. Enzo can’t seem to move past what he witnessed four years ago when he rescued his sister from the clutches of a human trafficking ring. Since then he has distanced himself from everyone but especially the one matters the most, Sofia. Now she needs his protection from Ivan and the Russians. Will this be his chance to show Sofia that they can be together?

I didn’t want to tear myself away! There is so much action with so many players. I love all the twists and the secret players. Is Katya a friend or a foe? Will Elena ever get to come home? If I wasn’t hooked after the first one, I am definitely hooked now! I love this series.

Spoilsport (Pierce Brothers Book 2) by Belinda Williams

4 out of 5 stars

Another hot Pierce brother equals another fun, witty story filled with laughter, banter and romance. We get the pleasure of learning more about Luke, the divorce father, and Nadia, the stone cold (or so she would like you to believe) nurse.

Luke has worked hard to get his own business up and running. Working the long hours is a wonderful distraction from the limited time with his daughter. When Luke met Nadia the first time, the chemistry could light up a mid-sized town. Luke was in the middle of deciding what he wanted to do with his marriage. When Nadia found out that he was not quite divorced, she cut him off.

Nadia Alvarez watched her parents’ difficult marriage and knew that would never be her. Nadia knew that infidelity had played a role in the demise of her parents’ marriage. Nadia wouldn’t allow herself to be that person. She decided to have a life of love and freedom.

Nadia had bought her dream house about a year ago. Between quick fixes and fixes that allowed her to keep the house in a habitable condition, the house was slowly killing her and draining her savings. Now Luke wants the chance to help Nadia rehab her house. Nadia says no. Luke works hard to design a proposal that she can’t turn down. When Nadia finally agrees, Luke does everything he can to make her dream come true. But will his dream of loving Nadia come true? Will the end of the project be the end of his time with her?

Belinda Williams does it again. The story is fun, flirty, steamy, witty, and sweet. Nadia and Luke have to work through their own baggage to find happiness. It was great to see Tom and Chelsea back. I can’t wait for Seth’s story!! I love this series!!

Shadows of Doubt (A Crawford Mystery) by Merissa Racine

4 out of 5 Stars

Merissa Racine brings the suspense each time. I was sure I knew who the killer was. Then, wham! Twist!!! I didn’t see it coming. I was blindsided. But, I saw all the clues that had been there from the beginning. The ending is not what I expected. I hope that there are more mysteries coming!

Lauren Besoner has been freelance court reporting since her ex-husband, Tony, became the judge. She knew that she could not work for him. Lauren agrees to cover for his court reporter while she is on maternity leave. This puts Lauren smack dab in the middle of the biggest thing the little town has ever seen, a murder trial. Lauren doesn’t believe that the accused is guilty. She winds up discovering the real murderer and so much more. Will Lauren ever be the same?

I didn’t understand the reason for all the testimony. I have to admit that it dragged on for me a bit. I realized that all of it was important. If not for the details provided by the individual witnesses, some of the reasons when the real killer is revealed wouldn’t make sense. I don’t think we have seen the last of Ray. Impatiently waiting for the next one!

Wrong for Him (The Love Lottery Series Book 3) by Christi Barth

5 out of 5 Stars

This book is amazing!!! I was hooked from about page 3. I grew frustrated, just like Amelia, as she and Teague took forever to find their way to each. I almost threw my phone down in anger later. I continue to root for the Inn to be a success. I was so proud of Sydney taking control of the situation between Amelia and Alex. If you haven’t read the other books in this series (like myself), buy them now and plan for a long weekend of getting lost in the world of Chestertown.

Teague Sullivan has had two best friends for as long as he can remember, Alex and his little sister Amelia. Alex knows almost everything about him. Teague knew there were somethings that even his best friend didn’t need to or couldn’t know about his time in the Army. Amelia had been his friend, his lifeline, his anchor during his last deployments. Now he was starting to realize that there was much more to his feelings for Amelia. But could he violate bro code and date his best friend’s little sister?

Amelia Kirkland has been in love with Teague for as long as she can remember. She knows that he will never see her as anything but Alex’s sister. Thanks to the Inn and other circumstances, she now will be sharing an apartment with Teague. Amelia realizes that it will be extremely difficult to live with the only man she has ever loved as roommates. Can she make Teague realize that there is more to her than being Alex’s little sister? If that doesn’t work, can they go back to being just friends?

The family of characters in this series is amazing. I can’t wait to read the others.

Tenacious (Billionaire Bodyguards Book 6) by Via Mari

4 out of 5 Stars

Via Mari creates a vivid world in which bad guys are brought to justice because the good guys want to help the innocent. It is a beautiful world. I also enjoy that the good guys work alongside the shady guys because it works for both of them.

Allie O’Conner has seen some rough stuff as an emergency room RN in NYC. Allie has learned to numb herself to the emotions the patients show in the ER. She learned from years of numbing herself from the traumas of her childhood. Until she met him, Allie knew how to balance her emotions, desires, and life.

Nick Montgomery is a bodyguard. That is not only what he is but who he is. Nick is a protector. He always has been. His protective instincts have been kicked into overdrive since meeting Allie. Nick has to find a way to protect her and crash through her walls at the same time.

While Nick is hunting the human traffickers threatening her, Allie comes face to face with the devastation caused by these folks.

Via Mari mixes romance in with her suspense. It is a delicious blend!! This is my first jump into the series. I have to know more. Books 1-5, here I come.

Lauren Besoner has had enough drama recently. Lauren is ready for some stability. Lauren has bought a house and gotten a dog. She is trying to make a life for herself. All of that comes to an abrupt halt when she finds her boss, Judge Murphy, dead. As the investigation ramps up, Lauren finds herself as a suspect. How does she find a way to prove it wasn’t her?

Merissa Racine adds twists at every turn, keeping you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have it figured it out, a new piece of evidence pops up and changes everything. Lauren can’t stay out of trouble. She keeps landing in the interrogation room with the very handsome Detective Sam Overstreet. It is not looking good for Lauren. Excellent storytelling! Maybe the mystery will be how Lauren avoids a relationship with Sam?

In 1968, Noemie BellaRose lives in a small South Carolina town.  Her family moved there from New Orleans.  Noemie fights the realities of living in this small town as a Creole woman but has made a home for herself and her brother.  Noemie is attending night school to finish her college degree in accounting.  A degree is part of Noemie’s plan to secure the future for her and her brother.

Richard Winters left a broken dream in New York.  He got on his motorcycle and rode away from the pain and the past.  He stopped in Noemie’s small town.  Richard didn’t plan on staying but he did.  He didn’t want any trouble but he found it when the town’s Queen B took a shine to him.  Richard didn’t want love but fate had other plans when he crossed paths with Noemie.

Noemie and Richard were battling the long-held beliefs in the South, Richard’s past, and Noemie’s family situation.  When things start coming to a head in the small town, will Richard and Noemie face the future together?

The support that Noemie discovers from friends is endearing.  I love that Richard is not afraid to stand up for Noemie or their love no matter the cost to him.  This is a sweet love story with a HEA.

Warning:  The book contains scenes depicting domestic violence and attempted sexual assault.  This may trigger some listeners

This was my first encounter with the Diamond Doms and I am captivated. Reconfiguring my budget to make sure I can add the other 8 books to my collection and I can spend a weekend tied up, reading. Holy hotness and fantastic characters!!!

Forever is the 9th and final book in the series. The story focuses on the ever security conscious Russell Adler and a new protectee, Gemma Livingston. Gemma’s life has just been turned inside out due a recent threat on her and her husband’s life. Gemma’s issues continue to mount when her recently deceased husband suddenly pops back up with her sister. Russell is trying to fulfill a promise to his friend by protecting his wife, Holly Barrett, and Gemma safe from the faction trying to take down Club Solitaire. Will Russell’s attraction to Gemma prevent him from keeping this promise?

I fell in nearly instantaneous love with so many of these characters. I now have to go back and figure out everything!! I want to know the backstory to Russell and Holly, a tender friendship. I want to know more about Patrick. Can’t go wrong with any book with a character named Marissa. Can’t wait to spend time getting to know this family of friends. Can I get an honorary membership?

A story of second chances. Cassandra Verlice ran from Rhett Farris five years ago. Cassandra isn’t really sure why she ran. All the reasons she had when she left didn’t make sense after her plane took off and she was on her way to a new life. When Cassandra received the call that an aunt she barely knew willed her a house practically in Rhett’s back yard, it didn’t matter. Cassandra was just going to walk away. A startling experience made Cassandra realize that all she wanted in her life was Rhett. If she went back, could she win him back? Would he even talk to her? Her plan was nearly perfect.

Rhett Farris’ life was in the process of major adjustment. His brother, Tom, had gotten downsized just days prior to his wife leaving him via email. Tom moved in with their father, whose diagnosis of dementia was becoming more apparent. When the senior community their father was living in got shut down, Rhett asked Tom and their father to move home. If that wasn’t enough, she sauntered back onto Rhett’s ranch. Cassandra Verlise.

Rhett and Cassandra could have a second chance if Rhett is willing to forgive. Rhett and Tom could have a second chance if they can work together regarding their father. Rhett and his father could have a second chance at a relationship in the time that his father has left if Rhett can put old anger and hurt aside. Can Rhett capture any of these chances? Only one is answered. The others are left open for interpretation. I hope there is a sequel so that some of the questions can get answered!

Two hunks vying for your attention…what a problem to have! Kayla had a seriously hot romance with Rad. It fizzled so that he could continue his journey as a rock star in Europe. Kayla was hurt but survived because the relationship gave her a daughter. Kayla has dedicated her life to her daughter for the last five years. Kayla’s best friend is encouraging Kayla to go out and have a life. Just as Kayla starts to do that, Rad shows back up.

Tanner is crazy busy right now. He is leading a crew on a new building. He is helping his pregnant sister care for her twin boys while her husband is deployed. He is trying to start his own contracting firm so that his brother-in-law comes home to job. He has no time for a relationship or dating despite what his sister thinks. When Tanner catches the woman from the apartment across from the construction site checking him out in the coffee store, he accidentally uses her name to get out of another set up by his sister. Except, now his sister wants to meet her. Will Kayla agree to this scheme? Is it more than it appears?

The chemistry between Kayla and Tanner left scorch marks on my phone! I was hooked from the beginning. There were great moments and then moments I just wanted to smack Rad. Rad’s only redeeming quality is that he figured out how important his daughter is. Great read!

It wasn’t the happy ending I was expecting but it was perfect. Emme and Brendon found out that being true to yourself was the best way to be there for each other.

Emme is a 15 year old girl that recently had gotten dumped in a harsh way by her older boyfriend. She is shy about starting to date again. When Brendon, the super hot senior, gets assigned as her partner in a summer class she didn’t even want to take, sparks start to fly. Emme and Brendon seem to have so much alike going on in their lives despite living in separate worlds. When all the trappings of high school start dragging on the couple, will Emme and Brendon make it?

The topics of loss, grief, family expectations are not just topics with which high schoolers deal. These topics affect us even as adults. The way Emme and Brendon figure out how to navigate the emotions is way beyond their years. The conversation between Emme and Brendon in the last chapter was heart-breaking but endearing all at the same time. The way the book ended was perfect! I hope that there is a part two in the works to know what happens next!!

The Boss Prince (It’s Raining Royals) by Alix Nichols

4 out of 5 Stars

The perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon! The Boss Prince is a sweet, HEA romance with a little heat! With a few twists along the way, Alix Nichols keeps this story interesting to the end.

Lucie brutally got dumped by her boss/boyfriend. She knew better but it was easy with Jerome, her ex. Lucie swears to herself never to get involved with a co-worker again. She intends to keep the promise to herself, until her new boss is a hottie carved out of steel and marble. Lucie tells herself that it doesn’t matter how hot he is because he is way out of her league and there is no chance. Max Delaroche is a secret prince from someplace no one has ever heard of, and, if he has his way about it, plans to keep it that way. Max hires Lucie because she is the beginning of a plan to keep his principality safe. Max is totally enthralled by Lucie and her sassiness. Can he keep his secret, even from her?

This short read is filled with humor, love and intrigue. Is there a mole in the palace? Can Max keep Lucie safe from his enemies? There are more questions than answers in this book. We can only hope that there is more to come from these two! This cute caper is the perfect beach book or (like me) way to spend an evening!!

Something Lost (Funeral and Weddings Series Book 1) by Bernadette Marie

4 out of 5 Stars

In this endearing story, Bernadette Marie introduces us to a team of characters. This story focuses on Rachel and Craig, but without the team the story wouldn’t be the same. The bonds shared between the friends and family in series will keep you coming back for more.

Rachel Diaz, daughter of a beloved basketball coach, is picking up the pieces of her heart once again. Rachel’s father has just passed away. His team, a group of five now men, have all agreed to be pallbearers. The only problem is that the love of Rachel’s life, the one that broke her heart, is one of those five. Craig Turner had dealt with plenty of his own issues. His drunken father that showed up for all of two minutes was part of the reason Craig left town, left Rachel. When he received the call to honor his coach, Craig knew he would see her but was he ready? Does he still love her? Will she even talk to him after ten years apart?

This story of redemption, forgiveness and second chances is heartfelt and wonderfully told. The characters are all regular people just trying to live their lives and find their way. Rachel, Catherine, Alex, Toby, Craig, Ray, and Bruce are interconnected and woven throughout each other’s lives in ways they are just starting to realize. As the series continues, I look forward to reading about each one! I love this casual, cozy series.

Hot Damn!!! Amy McKinley nails it! From the hot Mafia men to the strong, powerful Mafia women to the suspense and twists to the heat. There isn’t one thing to love about this story and all of its characters.

This saga starts off with the story of Liliana and Max. Liliana is trapped by her cold, abusive father. He thinks that her only benefit to him is what he can get at the bargaining table for her. Max was abandoned by his father. Raised by his maternal family as a secret, Max has gained power and rank in the Sicilian families. Unbeknownst to Liliana, Max has been sent by her maternal grandfather to rescue her from the clutches of the man that raised her. Things get complicated when Max falls for Liliana.

Amy McKinley spins this Mafia tale of secret family members, deceit, lies and honor with class and a magic touch. I want best friends like Sofia and Em, strong, intelligent, badass and armed!! Can’t wait for Sofia and Enzo’s story. Cuz just like the Mafia with this saga, once you are in, you are in for life. I have taken my oath.

A recent revelation of his parentage has upset his world. Now he is on the run from murder charges, needing a safe place to crash while he clears his name, Caine turns to his best friend Hawks. Hawks owns the club Syn where Caine starts working as security and runs into Emery.

As Emery’s world comes crashing down around her, something as simple as car trouble sets Caine’s protective instincts off. Can his controlling and protective instincts help put Emery back on her feet? Will Caine’s past catch up to both?

Where can I get me a Caine? From the growling voice to the tattoos and other decorations, everything about this man makes a girl sit up and listen. This was a thrilling addition to the Men of Syn series. Not as much drama and suspense as the first one, but still kept you interested. I think that Emery and Caine finding each other allowed Emery to transform from spoiled, rich girl into more. I hope that this series can continue with Chad or Bruce or Ayden.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson

4 of 5 Stars

These are the first three novels in this series by Linda J. Burson. The series tells us the story of Marcy Jenson. Marcy is a young, independent entrepreneur. Marcy opened her own bakery about 2.5 years ago. Marcy thought she was living the good life. She was in a steady relationship with Brad, the man she knew she was going to marry. The bakery was doing well, so well she needed to add additional help. The only issue was that Marcy started to have uncontrollable rage. All of her friends were concerned. One night, Marcy stopped at a random gas station to get gas on her way home. This fuel stop changed the course of Marcy’s life. After, a stranger came into Marcy’s life. Liam is tall, strong, handsome and dangerous. Was he truly a stranger? Was he dangerous for Marcy? Can this stranger help Marcy with her rage?

In Rage, we get to know each of the characters and start to understand all their reasons for feeling the rage burning inside of them.

In Confusion, Marcy, Brad and Liam are thrown as the emotional toll of dealing with their rage bubbles to the surface.

In Agony and Ecstasy, life for Marcy, Liam and Brad has appeared to smooth out. Happiness appears just around the corner. But, we all know that there can be anything around that corner, especially dark shadows of the past.

I found myself talking out loud to the characters, telling them to stop, breathe, think about what they were doing. I questioned their choices. I rooted for their victories. I cried with them. I was pulled into Marcy’s world deeper and deeper with every page. My emotions ran so deeply that I had to put my phone down and walk away a couple of times. I thought I could walk away from Marcy, Liam and Brad but I was drawn back to them time and time again. This is a series that I have to finish.

Dahlia had fought her desire for Levi for years because she didn’t want anything to interfere with their friendship. She had met and married another man, Trey. Trey betrayed Dahlia, betrayed their marriage vows. Levi watched it all happening. Dahlia decided that she was done with both of them. She walked out of Levi’s life 8 years ago. Dahlia’s promotion has put her at the forefront of a major project for her employer. How did Levi wind up as the contractor on this project? Levi believes it is fate, giving him another chance to make things right with Dahlia, to be together, or at the very least for her to stop hating him. Levi is going to give getting back Dahlia everything he has, if they can’t be together maybe they can once again be friends.

Renee Regent does an amazing job of creating the history and conflict of these characters. Friends, enemies, friends, possible lovers. The chemistry between Levi and Dahlia was palpable from the first time they were on the page together. Maybe it was the hate and anger rolling off Dahlia, but the pages singed my fingers!! I loved that Dahlia was a fierce momma bear for her son. Great read!! I hope that Trey is able to continue maturing to be a better father for Beckett.

The Sound of Silence AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by M Policicchio

The Sound of Silence AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink

4 out of 5 Stars

Gianna Valentini thinks she found the perfect man in Ethan Walker.  Ethan is loving, kind, a police officer, and seemingly everything she wants.  Once the wedding vows are exchanged, Ethan starts to change.  Ethan is more of a nightmare than a dream.  Once Gianna makes up her mind to leave, she stays to plan carefully and accumulate everything she needs to get away from Ethan.  But nothing ever goes as planned.

Derek Mills is a budding entrepreneur.  He just happens to be at the same hotel as a wedding reception for Gianna and Ethan.  When a chance encounter between the bride needing a moment and this stranger, the sparks fly.  Several years later, when Derek assists a stranger in the hallway to his fitness center, he discovers the bride from the chance encounter.  She is not the same.  She is going by a different name, her hair is shorter and darker, and always looking over her shoulder.  Could this beautiful woman be on the run from someone?

Dakota Willink delivers on the suspense, the drama, the heat and the heart.  You can’t help but root for Gianna as she fights for her independence.  The heart-wrenching scenes are balanced by hope and healing.  Ethan got off way too easy.  Gianna is brave and resilient.  Dakota put in the time to make Gianna real and believable. Amazing story and characters!

Trigger Warning:  This book contains scenes of domestic and sexual violence.  May not be appropriate for all audiences.

Dangerous Curves Boxed Set #1 (Dangerous Curves Books 1-3) by K.L. Montgomery

4 out of 5 stars

This box set begins with Betrayal at the Beach. A delightful leap into the world of Sunshine Baker and her small town of Bryce Beach. Sunshine is the YA Librarian at the town library. She has planned a gala fundraiser to secure funds that had been reduced from the town budget. During the gala, the funds and a priceless town relic are stolen. Sunshine doesn’t feel that the local police are doing a good job of finding the guilty party. Sunshine and her merry band of librarians start their own investigation. Could Sunshine find the culprit before the relic disappeared and the money vanished for good?

The set continues with Mystery at the Marina. Sunshine and her gang of resourceful librarians are at it again when wildlife starts washing up on the shores dead. Sunshine butts heads with the Chief of Police while trying to figure out what was going on in her town’s marina. Sunshine thinks she can assist with the investigation, just like she did before. This investigation leads Sunshine and her crew into hot water. Will Sunshine be able to figure this out before she gets boiled?

The set wraps up with Shooting at the Shore. Sunshine gets involved in the murder investigation of a dear friend and town leader, Willa Bryce Monroe. Sunshine uncovers the family secrets that ultimately led to Willa’s death. Sunshine also makes a startling revelation regarding the newest teen patron and artist helping out in the library. Will the town ever be the same when the secrets come to light?

K.L. Montgomery gives us life in a small coastal town. I want to be friends with Sunshine and help her solve mysteries. The characters, big and small, human and animal, make the town more entertaining. The relationships between characters are enjoyable and real, from the friendships to siblings. Sunshine stands out but without her friends and teen assistants, she couldn’t solve the mysteries or remain employed!! I love the secret admirer that is carried throughout the novels. I think I know who it is, but only time will tell! Can’t wait for the next chapter in this series.

Again, J.D. Spero leaves the reader on slow burn. You know what happened but find yourself questioning what you know. Could it be Tyler? And, then BAM! The world tilts and the sunshine differently. I don’t know what happens next in Hen’s world, but I am along for the ride. Brava!!! J.D., brava!

This sweet tale of discovering who you are and the quirkiness of your family was a great listen.  I enjoyed the characters.  I loved hearing my name as a character (Thanks for including me!  I only hope I can be that cool of an aunt in real life.)!  I was shocked when the story ended the way it did.  I hope there is a sequel that can tell me what happened.  This is a story that can be enjoyed by all ages.  Oh my Goshness is entering my lexicon!

Trent “Tank” Easton has made a few questionable decisions in his life. What he said to Charlie, his best friend’s little sister, the day after his father’s funeral is one of those. What happened after that day, wasn’t.

Charlotte “Charlie” Hawkins has been in love with her brother’s best friend since she was 12 years old. Charlie never thought that Tank might share her feelings until the day of his father’s funeral. That night changed everything. Charlie stayed away from her hometown for 8 years because of what Tank said. Now she is back and plans to be friends with Tank. She can do that, right?

I fell in love with these characters for so many reasons. I thoroughly enjoy the sibling jousting between Charlie, Jude and Dane. My heart melted at Tank’s letter to Charlie. The small ways Tank shows his love for Charlie are endearing. Tank’s relationship with Shirley. Tank’s reaction to Justin’s relationship with Charlie. While you are in their world, you feel like you have grown up in their small town. I will be reading the next episode in this series!

4 out of 5 Stars

Lark Donovan is the youngest of the Donovan sisters. Lark is doing something she told herself that she wouldn’t do. She is going back to Heron Harbor for her sister’s, Wren, wedding. There are many minefields waiting for Lark on Heron Harbor, memories of her father, her sisters’ happiness, and most of all the man she walked out on six years ago.

Hunter McMullen knew the day he was going to have to see Lark Donovan was inevitable when he agreed to be the Best Man in her sister’s wedding. What he didn’t know was that the fates were conspiring against him. Lark had barely been on the island for an hour when she was put into his path. WIth the universe plotting to throw them together at every turn, Lark and Hunter find themselves completing Wren’s last minute checklist items for the wedding. When family secrets come out, will they drive Lark away again? Will Hunter and Lark find what they have been searching for in each other?

I want to be Lark. I want to hop in Minnie the Winnie and take off across the country with her. I want to teach art to seniors and kids. I want the bond she has with her sisters. I want to smack her father for all the lies and deceit. I am in this. Give me a bird name. I am ready to find out what island life is all about. This was my first foray into the series. I will have to go back and get caught up. What is next? Does Lorelai find love? Do Elliot and Wyatt grow up? Take me back to Heron Harbor anytime!!

Sinful Daughter (Dark Mafia Sins Book 1) by Emily Bowie

4 out of 5 Stars

Aria Rossi is the eldest daughter and second out of five children for her father, Nicoli Rossi, the greatly feared Mafia don. Aria’s dream of being a lawyer is close to happening. If she decides to join the family, Aria thinks she knows what her life would be. While she is deciding on the path she will take, Aria decides to live someone else’s life for just one night. Lori, Aria’s best friend, takes Aria to a place no one will recognize her.

Theo Fox is an honest cop. Theo Fox has made it his mission as a police officer to find a way to break both mafia families in the area. When he stumbles across, and by stumble I mean deliberately plans and shows up where she is, Aria on her night of freedom, Theo finds more than he bargains for in Aria. As the dangerous relationship between Aria and Theo starts, Aria finds herself in an arranged engagement. Can Aria and Theo ever be together? Will Theo give up his morals for Aria?

If screaming at a book is any indication of an amazing read, this one is beyond amazing. Emily Bowie makes sure you can feel the danger, the heat, the steam and the heartbreak. This book is kind of like the mafia, once you are in, you are in for life! Some of the characters surprise you when you least expect it. Then, there is that thing that happens. Not the first one that leaves you breathless but the second one that leaves you completely confused.

Henry “Hen” Trout has a good life for a seven year old. Hen has an awesome big brother, Tyler, a best friend, Murphy, and is studying how to set a hedgehog trap. When Hen sees a horrifying attack on his neighbor and babysitter, Ms. Sally, his world gets turned upside down. Hen doesn’t want to believe what his memory and the evidence is telling him, that Tyler was involved, but there are just somethings that can’t be wrong.

Tyler Trout has a great mom and a fantastic little brother that he adores. Tyler also has dark feelings that he hasn’t been able to fight lately. Tyler has found two things that help with the feelings, his mom and something he shouldn’t want. Tyler’s mom isn’t an option these days as she works too many hours.

This is a slow burn. I wasn’t getting it at first. Finally, when it clicked, I couldn’t put it down. I loved the relationship between Hen and Tyler. Tyler is as protective of Hen as Hen is of Tyler. There are so many scenes throughout the book that made me glad I was alone when reading. I yelled at characters not to do what they were about to do, like when Marcella broke Derek’s heart unknowingly. I needed her to take that back so badly. Be prepared to be hooked. JD Spero creates full characters to be loved and hated in this small town. I have to know if Louis finally came home!
