Summer Princess (Dark Fae Book 1) by Sloane Murphy – Review by Chantelle Smith

Summer PrincessSummer Princess by Sloane Murphy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great read! First of all the cover drew me in first then to read the synopsis had me even more intrigued. Sloane Murphy is a new author for me but her writing had me hooked from the very beginning. She has created a storyline that is mentally visual and vivid. She has created characters that have depth, are strong and relatable. I was kept hooked with this read and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to find out what would happen next. Being a dark fantasy read I was looking forward to being taken into this world, I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation, this book is full of secrets, betrayal, lies, suspense, adventure and love and to top it all off, we have an ending like that! I can’t wait to see what else this author brings and I will be eagerly awaiting the next book!

Love is What You Bake of it (Meraki, #1)Love is What You Bake of it by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love Is What You Bake Of It by Effie Kammenou is the first book in the Meraki series. This book is so sweet and heartwarming that it will definitely put a smile on your face.
Effie Kammenou really knows how to write a good story. This book is exactly what I would expect from her. It is an interesting story that is well written and engaging. It has loveable, sweet characters that you just have to root for. And it has that something that means you have to keep turning the pages to find out what will happen.
This is the perfect book for one of those lazy afternoons, when you can just give yourself over to the story and get lost in the pages! This was a great book and a really lovely story. I would definitely recommend reading it.

Indebted to the Vampires (The House of Durand Book 1) by Erin Bedford – Review by Lisa Helmick

Indebted to the VampiresIndebted to the Vampires by Erin R. Bedford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG! Why did I not know about this book before now! I am always on the lookout for vampire books and I am so glad this one fell into my lap! This story! These vampires! That Maid! All so sassy and sexy. I devoured this book in a few hours! It’s one I read late into the night. Who was going to get the maid? What is she going to break next? Will Antoine ever smile? Will the vampire get earplugs? Ha ha that one just makes me smile. They shouldn’t listen to what they don’t want to know… right? Right?

Well this is a first time author for me. If you couldn’t tell…I LOVED this story and these characters! They are both lively. The story is engaging and easy to read with many ups and downs. I can not wait to dive into the second book to see what happens next.

Hail Mary by Hope Anika is an entertaining and fast paced story with some fantastic characters to go along with it.
Beau and Wynn are those type of characters that absolutely compliment each other. The chemistry between them combined with the back and forth is done so well. I laughed with them, I was on the edge of my seat with them. They are characters you cannot help but connect with.
The story was action packed and fast paced. It definitely keeps you the in the pages!! This is one of only a few books I have read by this author but it definitely cements the fact that I can’t wait to read more of her work.

I LOVED this book! The storyline is so good! I didn’t want to put this one down! It’s smooth and flows along very effortlessly. Then there are the wonderful characters. The author is able to bring these characters to life with words. I could picture them and what they were doing easily. It is such a delight!

I enjoyed seeing a “tells it’s like it is” woman. She is strong self-assured and knows that she can do things herself. Then we meet the cantankerous sheriff. He has pain hidden deep and would like nothing more than to fade into the woodwork. But once he gets threatened with a wrench, from a “little spitfire”, he starts to wonder about his life. That’s when the fun starts. The tension between these two is just rolling off the pages! Their antics are like watching a movie in my head! Then there is the back and forth angry, desperate conversations. I can’t help but enjoy reading those. How she challenges him and how he frustrates her.

All of the secondary characters (and there is a lot) are delightful as well. They all add to the story. I loved each of their issues and how they tried to deal with them. My favorite thing was the tenants of the boarding house were mostly elderly. They All have interesting personas and reasons for being there.

This is a suspenseful story with a side of romance. I really enjoyed reading this and I highly recommend.

License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Kerry Baker

License to Bite (New Orleans Nocturnes, #1)License to Bite by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

License To Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy by Carrie Pulkinen is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This is a fun and highly entertaining book and a great new way of telling a vampire story.
What a brilliant way to start a new series! Carrie Pulkinen has definitely set the bag high for this series. This book was so entertaining and absolutely hilarious. I loved how feisty and loud Jane turns out to be, and how completely surprised Ethan is by this.
What ensues between them is just out and out good story telling. The author weaves her words in such a way that it creates a unique and interesting book. If this is only the first in the series then I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us.

A Study in Spirits (College Fae book #2) by Byrd Nash – Review by Lisa Helmick

A Study in Spirits: A College Fae magic series #2A Study in Spirits: A College Fae magic series #2 by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this story. It’s the second in the series. In here we get to delve deeper into each of the characters we have met. While there is a problem on campus they have become involved in because of Celia’s new roomie.

There is much to love about these characters. The whole dryad (tree) Fae thing. How she can step into trees. Then in the library I loved the idea of how the books were crying having their knowledge ripped from them. Then the dryad struggled as well because….well books are paper and paper was trees…genius! Logan with his “seeing the truth” and the Japanese squirrel and the cat (Jib). All great! I don’t even know what to say about the doppelgänger. Just freaky!

I love the world this author has created. Anyone who reads paranormal fantasy should love this. It tickles the funny one and engages the grey matter.

Music Man (Romance in Rehoboth #1) by K.L. Montgomery – Review by Lisa Helmick

Music Man (Romance in Rehoboth Book 1)Music Man by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is really a wonderful read! The story has its ups and downs. But really towards the end….I couldn’t put it down. Those words he wrote are worth tearing up over. The characters we have met almost all of them previously (if you read Fat Girl). This story made me like Claire, Jack and Anita more. Each showed great growth in their character. I enjoyed how not every thought of Claire was self doubt on her looks, thoughts or actions. It was nice plus she got some backbone. Jack went from a sexy man beast to an unrecognizable Star. For Anita? She surprised me the most and I have to say I loved all the Darth Vader references to her.

Overall this is a story I read really quickly. It has a nice flow and the plight of the characters kept me reading. Jacks song’s were great but even more because he wrote them for Claire. I didn’t realize he had that in him. Very Enjoyable!

Holding Out for You by Anna Paige – Review by Lisa Helmick

Holding Out for YouHolding Out for You by Anna Paige
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Do you love books that you just can’t seem to put down? How about the ones that you read way past your bedtime? With this book I accomplished both of those! I can’t even say what made me do it. The way it was written, the characters I couldn’t say no to or or because this storyline just called to something inside me. Well..in this case it’s all three.

I ab-so-lutly LOVE the relationship these besties have and I’m not just talking about the girls. Ashton and Becker have amazing banter between them that it’s easy to tell they have been friends years. They make me laugh when they get throwing words back and forth. Even the wonderful brother sister bond is so strong. It’s easy to see why all of these kids love and protect each other.

Ashton is a dreamboat of epic proportions! I don’t think he can say or do anything wrong. In fact I have many highlighted words from this man. Everyone wants to hear what he is saying. Just to them.

I loved this story so much! The friendships, brotherhood, the protectiveness….heck even the sassy chatter and the love all make this a five star read!

Marked for Death (A Gray Ghost Novel, book 6) by Amy McKinley – Review by Lisa Helmick

Marked for Death (Gray Ghost #6)Marked for Death by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow talk about action and suspense?! This one has it in spades! Turning from one page to the next I never knew what would happen next to this crew. That makes for an exciting read. As I said the story is explosive. The characters have skills and do thing I could or would never dream of doing. They all have troubled pasts that come back to haunt them. Keegan’s seemed just terrible. Somehow he was able to overcome and become better. His long time love Kara shows up and catches him off guard. From there they are busy bodies working two different cases to the same end.
Over all this is extremely action packed and I feel it’s a good addition to the series.

The Player (Men of WarHawks Book 2)The Player by Jacquie Biggar
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good story that Involves hockey, a feral cat and a crazy ex. All of those elements make for some fun times. I enjoyed Patience she is unsure of herself but doesn’t project that. She appears confident. The connection between these two was extra warm. Those kisses could really have went somewhere if not for that cat. The drama with the psycho ex was scary at how true it could be.

I liked this but I wish there was more. More in-depth characters, more banter with the team and more run ins with her brothers/family.

Who: A Stalker Series Novel by Megan Mitcham – Review by Lisa Helmick

Who: A Stalker Series Novel (Volume 1)Who: A Stalker Series Novel by Megan Mitcham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! The best was HIM. He is just so SEXY and alpha. Some of the things he says….I loved it! The second best is the stalker story. I really struggled most of the book to figure it out. There are also other lines of suspense that filter in throughout the story. I did struggle at times with the wording placement and the beginning seemed dry. The main character, Larkin, at times was strong and others I just didn’t understand her. She seemed so stiff and unlikable. Slowly she gained and became more than just her tears and being afraid. This story did really pick up its pace in the middle and towards the end.

This is my first book by this author. Overall it’s a good story. It has elements that are enjoyable as well as unknown. I will look into Why, her next in the series

High Fae Academy – Year One: Fae Paranormal Romance by Kaylin Peyerk is an exciting start to a new series. You are drawn into this book immediately and will find yourself flying through it.
This is a new author to me so I was looking forward to starting the book. I did feel at times like the story was a little rushed, or lacked a bit of depth to it. However the characters in the book more than made up for it. What a journey they will take you on. I was as torn as the MC in this book as to who I was more drawn to. I connected with all of them and really enjoyed getting to know them all.

So I would definitely say this book is ideal for younger readers. I do enjoy reading young adult stories although I did find this one was probably my limit on how far I would go down. That being said for anytime that likes this genre it is definitely a book worth reading.
The story was interesting and varied. I liked that different lore was combined in the book to create an in-depth world. The characters were fun to read about – the bad and the good. The range of personalities, and their links to their animal shapes, was done well.
This is was a great book and one I enjoyed.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Age of Secrets by Christy Nicholas is the eighth book in the Druid’s Brooch series. This book is as original and enticing as the other books in the series.
Not many authors are skilled enough to carry a series though a few books, let alone 8 of them. And yet with each book this author produces the series just gets better.
This book is everything I have come to expect – it is creative and detailed. The author has a writing style that makes it so easy to imagine the world she is envisioning. The characters have such a depth to them that it is almost like you are there with them, experiencing everything they do.
I have to say this series is nothing at all like I expected when I picked up the first book. I was hesitant, sure that I wouldn’t like it and now I can’t wait to see what might be next. This is a great book and a fantastic addition to the Druids Brooch series.
