Loyalty & Lies (Spicetopia Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander

5 Stars

Back to Spicetopia! I forget how much I love visiting there till I pick up another book, then add in one of my favorite couples from The Eastern Shore Swingers series and all was right in my world for the duration of this book!

This whole series is so much fun, each one could actually be read as a standalone but I just think you need the whole of the Spicetopia series to appreciate it! This one might just be my favorite, it could have to do with the characters I’ve already come to love but I loved the approach to this story. I love the emotions I was feeling throughout. I loved loved loved being on the edge of my seat at times wondering what would happen next. I was a mess at times, angry, scared, happy, sad.. Yes this author hit it all in this one!

Another one sitting read because I could not put it down. If you have not read any of this author’s books, you really must..You won’t regret it I promise, and I’m sure she will become another addition to your one click list as quickly as she did mine!

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #3)Forged by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 3 in the series but can be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed this book and I love how characters from the previous books make an appearance too.
Melina has a huge secret from her past that she swore she would never tell anyone, however her past seems to be catching up with her and she’s going to need help.
Tyler has been waiting for Lina to be ready for a relationship since they were at school, and he’s certain she will be his happy ever after.
When Melina is accused of treason, she has nobody to turn to other than Ty, and he doesn’t hesitate to help her.
I enjoyed all the twists in this story, and how they all tied into the bigger picture. I got a little frustrated with Lina when she insisted on clinging to the past when she needed to trust Ty and try and move on.
The playful banter between the two was sweet and I loved the subtle messages from Ty and his DVD’s.
This is a another great book to add to the series.

Vince is an accomplished liar and undercover Special Branch agent. Neil McDonald takes us on a looping ride with a secret agent who, by the nature of his work, lives a lie. This is an intriguing crime story with a bit of a psychological component to it. While I did find some of it interesting, mainly the historic parts, it’s not one I sat and read in a few hours. This novel promised to be intriguing but I was left wanting something a bit more.

THE ISTANBUL HEIST: Code Raven 8THE ISTANBUL HEIST: Code Raven 8 by Lynda Filler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Istanbul Heist is the 8th installment to this series, and once again follows the Raven Group through a wild and adventurous ride through the beautiful city of Istanbul. It has everything could ask for in a espionage book, including action, love, secrets, lies, and a twist around every corner. Miss Filler goes into great detail in describing the city and the many wild characters that make up the Raven group, almost making you feel like you are right in the middle of all the action. Even though this is the 8th installment to this series Miss Filler pays such attention to detail that you could read any one of these installments as a stand-alone story. I highly recommend this book and look forward to many more from this author.

I’ve read every single book in this series and it gets better every time a new part comes out! I’m excited about this book because it keeps your mind racing and on edge with Delilah. There is so much that kept me rooting for not just Delilah but Mason as well. I won’t give too much away but these series made me fall in love with Toya Richardson as an author: Her books get better in time and as the series picks up so you’d be missing out if you didn’t give these books a chance.

The intrigue of this book took me over, especially the slow build. This book is an expansion from a previous of the author’s stories which allows this to go deeper than we’d thought. Noah, the main character, is quite the lady’s man but that’s about to change as this story takes shape for the reader in an unexpected way. This story is action-packed in the love department but with a special spin as well. For me this book was exciting at every turn. I think you’ll genuinely enjoy it!

I love when an author can bring 2 characters from one series into another and this was done so well! I loved these two in their own book and to now see them at Spicetopia, we’re in for a treat.

Jordan’s Shadow by T.R. Cupak – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Jordan's ShadowJordan’s Shadow by T.R. Cupak
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is not advised for anyone one under the age of 18 due to the graphic content.

Jordan is a woman with a whole heap of problems, she is an addict, she uses drugs and alcohol to numb the pain of her past and the demons which haunt her, especially when the nightmares hit of the night her life changed forever, she also writes in her journal to help her process her dreams and let out all the pain and the hurt inside. The Shadow is a man obsessed with a woman and that woman is Jordan, all he wants is to keep her by his side, but she isn’t aware of this, their shared past or his commitment to avenge her.
.
She has tried to get a normal job and keep her head down, but that didn’t work out, so when the opportunity to become an escort came up, she decided to give it a go and here she is several years later and still doing it, she has her regular clients, but only a couple who she actually sleeps with. One of her main clients is a man she has named The Shadow, she sees him once a month and is always blindfolded while she is with him, he gives her gifts and his bodyguard is always professional and polite when he comes to collect her. She knows that he is just a client, but she can’t help but hope that he could be something more, he knows how to play her body like an instrument and she can’t help but give in to his every demand, but this time, something happens and she goes into a full blown panic attack.

The next morning she wakes up in an unfamiliar place with a pounding head and no idea why until flashbacks of the night before make her want to throw up, but instead she explores the room and it’s contents, she finds notes dotted around to make her comfortable and after The Shadow’s bodyguard gives her something to change into, she gets ready to leave, however, when she is dropped off at home, she is surprised when she is told he will be visiting her tonight and she is told to wear nothing but her blindfold when he gets there.

The Shadow is informed that Jordan is safely back at home, he is thinking about his current business path, as well as the past events that have led him to her, but that is nothing compared to his plan for the night to come and the first step in his plan for revenge, but he is worrying about how she will react to what he will tell her.

When the time comes for Jordan and The Shadow to meet, she is spiralling, the cocktail of booze and drudge she has taken are sending her mind into a tailspin and she can’t stop thinking about escaping, even though his bodyguard has put a stop to that straight away already. Meanwhile The Shadow is just as flighty as she is, but he takes a few swigs of liquid courage and goes to her flat, things do not go quite to plan and the things he wants to say are forgotten once he allows her to look at him. That night, there is passion, an argument, a betrayal of trust and exhaustion, but Jordan goes to see him the next day anyway and when he reveals one more part of himself to her, will she be able to accept his words like he wants her to, or will she run when she realises that his demons and darkness are almost as deep as hers? Will these two broken people come together, or are past events going to be too large a barrier to overcome? This is not a romance for the faint of heart, it is a tidal wave of emotion, betrayal and revelations which will pull you under into their world of darkness and wanting to know how the story ends.

5 out of 5 stars

WOW I just love this series Ms. Filler did not disappoint… The characters are well written with strong personalities and I love their quirks and the way they interact with each other. We have espingone, Lies, Love, betrayal, and a few twists thrown in.

After the assassination of the Minister of Defense in Istanbul, Zach and Rachel have remained in Istanbul. During a night out at a trendy cafe, the two Raven Group operatives find themselves in the middle of a brutal terrorist attack.

Samaar and Alice, Luke’s step- daughter join Luke in Istanbul for a restful trip or so they are though. Samar an ex-Mossad agent knows Luke is keeping something from her and soon uncovers a secret that will shake the very foundation of everything she believes to be true.

Luke Raven is back in Istanbul on the most vital secret mission of his life. These two events collide and this leads the Raven Group to the mountains in northern Turkey, where the real motivation behind the terrorist attack is uncovered.

Can they stop the terrorist attack? Can Samaar forgive Luke for the secret he has kept? You will need to read this book to find out.

I recommend that you read these books in order so you know what is going on.

The Istanbul Heist (Code Raven Series Book 8) by Lynda Filler
4 Stars

If you like books about politics and espionage then this is the book for you. Luke Raven heads a team called the Raven Group. Each member specializes in different areas from military, computers and ex spy agents. Their aim is to stop terrorists and war; saving the planet from world domination. Luke’s mission in Istanbul this time is on a more personal level. As luck would have it, Luke’s team seems to be at the wrong place at the right time. Something big is happening in Istanbul and they must figure it out before there are too many casualties. The consequences of certain actions that Luke has taken may change his life. For once he is uncertain and it’s not a position he likes being in.

This series just keeps getting better with each addition. The stories are filled with action and danger to keep you revitted to your seat. The author’s attention to details will have you understand and make you feel as if you are a part of the spy world. There are a couple of storylines in this book which the author has woven together perfectly. This is a definite must read.

The Sun at Twilight (Empire at Twilight Book 4) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Jennifer Wolbeck

The Sun at Twilight (Empire at Twilight #4)The Sun at Twilight by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my second read from the Empire at Twilight series, and while I have praised N.L. Holmes plenty enough in the past for her immersive world building, fluid writing style and interesting characters, I’ve realized that one of my favorite things about her is her choice of subject. I adore historical fiction, but this is my first time reading about the Hittite Empire from the 1230’s BC. What fascinated me the most was the parallels I found between Tudhaliya IV and King Edward IV of England from the Wars of the Roses in the 1400’s AD. The concept of infighting within powerful royal families and the fears over the stability of succession seems to be a universal and timeless concept, and it was a treat getting to read about it from a different perspective.

Electric Temptation (The Protectors, #5)Electric Temptation by Toya Richardson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Electric Temptation is the fifth book in The Protectors Series by Toya Richardson. This is a fabulous paranormal romance- with shifters, witches, magic, the supernatural, elemental powers, danger, high stakes, drama, and more.
The protector community is once more faced with a very dangerous situation. They are being targeted- and The Tracker’s aren’t backing down. Things will come to a head- and what happens will leave you breathless.
This is Delilah and Mason’s second chance story- where circumstances bring them back together when Delilah desperately needs his help. But The Tracker’s aren’t far behind- making for a gripping read. One of my favourites of the series, so far!

Thank you, Toya Richardson!

Twisted Throttle (Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation #3) by Manda Mellett – Review by Angela Hayes

Twisted Throttle (Satan's Devils MC Second Generation #3)Twisted Throttle by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Twisted Throttle is the third book in the Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation series by Manda Mellett. Over the years, I have read all the Satan’s Devils books from the original series, right through to this second generation- and have loved and enjoyed them all. As the tittle would suggest, second generation, this series follows the children of the characters we’ve come to know and love in the original series. This could be read as a standalone, but having said that, I highly recommend reading the original series before embarking on this one- as I think there is a lot of background information, character details, and relationship insights that are revealed in those books- which would definitely give you a better understanding and appreciation of the characters, and the story.
This is a contemporary MC romance story, and is full of sexy bikers, danger, mystery, suspense, comradery, action, drama, emotion, and more.
This is Noah (Throttle) and Gwen’s story. Noah is the son of Peg and Darcy, who we know and love from the original Satan’s Devils series- their story was told in “Peg’s Stand (Satan’s Devils MC #6) – which was a favourite of mine. So, getting to meet Noah, who is now all grown up and not only a fully patched member of the club, but an enforcer. Add a stalker, danger, tension, chemistry, and fate- makes for a gripping read!

Thank you, Manda Mellett!

Love Between the Lines is the first book in the Page Turners series by A.D. Brazeau. This is a sweet romantic comedy- a bit of chick-lit with plenty of humour that made for an entertaining read.
This story captures what happens when the sparks ignite between an author and a cover model. But Ms. Brazeau doesn’t make it too easy for these two- adding just enough angst, drama, anxiety, and self doubt to make things interesting.
This is my first read by Ms. Brazeau, and after reading this, I am happy to say that it won’t be my last.

Daisy’s Darkness (Wheels & Hogs Book 6) by D.M. Earl – Review by Angela Hayes

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6)Daisy’s Darkness by D.M. Earl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Daisy’s Darkness is the sixth book in the Wheels & Hogs series by D.M. Earl. This is my first read by D.M, so I had no idea of what to expect- but the blurb lured me, so I took a chance and dove in. I hadn’t realised at the time, that this was the sixth book in a series, so I am jumping into it a bit backwards- I was happy to discover that even though I hadn’t read the previous 5 books, it didn’t impact on my reading of this story. It can be read as a standalone, but having said that, I am intrigued enough to want to go back and read them, too.
The story is emotional, so I recommend having a box of tissues beside you while you read, as you will probably need them. This is a YA story, so it is full of all the angst and teenage drama you would expect from teenagers- but it also gives a insight into some of the real problems faced by our young ones in today’s society- exploring issues such as bullying, peer pressure, the huge role social media plays in their lives, depression, anxiety, cutting, self-image, self-esteem, eating disorders, fitting in, isolation, loneliness, and dealing with dark thoughts. The story is heart-wrenching and a little dark in places, but the author balances all the heaviness with lighter moments, family love and understanding, and a touch of romance.
Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series holds.

Thank you, D.M. Earl!

THE ISTANBUL HEIST: Code Raven 8THE ISTANBUL HEIST: Code Raven 8 by Lynda Filler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Istanbul Heist is the eighth intense instalment in the Code Raven series by Lynda Filler. I know I keep saying this, and I don’t know how Ms. Filler manages to up the ante with her writing every time-but it’s true, she does- and the series just seems to get better and better with each new instalment.

The Raven Group, a top-secret special ops team- are pulled into another action-packed mission that will test them on many different levels. This one involving a heist- with terrorists, secrets, danger, and hidden agendas- there is a lot at stake. Will the Raven team survive their trials? This is well worth the read to find out.
Even though each book could be read as a standalone and is a ‘new’ adventure in the series- there is a larger picture being woven in the background- so I highly recommend reading all the previous books before starting on this one- as knowing what happens previously will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book.
Another fantastic addition to the series- with plenty of action, danger, intrigue, drama, secrets, suspense, mystery, and intensity.

Thank you, Lynda Filler!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sons of Sindicato is the start of an exciting new mafia series by Cam Johns and Sonya Jesus. I have loved these authors books, individually, so when they came together for a collaboration it was a given that I would be diving in asap.
This is a very short, novella length taste of what’s to come. I devoured this story in my lunch break and was left wanting more- in a good way. I would have loved to read a longer, fuller version of this story so I could immerse myself in it for longer- and get more of Braelynn and Seth’s story. But the book did a great job of whetting my appetite for the rest of the series and I can’t wait to get my hands on book two.
So, if you love mafia stories, romantic suspense on the darker side- with fantastic characters, and an intriguing and well-written storyline- then this is definitely a book you will want to read!

3 1/2 Stars

City of Whispers is the first book in the Imperial Assassin series by Katt Powers. This is a wonderful fantasy adventure- full of intricate details woven into a rich and vibrant setting. It is an action-packed urban fantasy with magic, danger, drama, hidden agendas, fight scenes, humour, emotion, secrets, and incredible world building.
This is my first rad from Katt Powers, so I really didn’t now what to expect going into the story- but I absolutely love fantasy adventures, and the cover and blurb sold me in an instant. While I did enjoy the story, I am not going to lie, it did take me a few chapters to ‘settle’ into the story as there were just so many characters with hard to pronounce names places, and terms- that disrupted the flow of reading for me while I tried to figure out how to pronounce it all. The book does come with a glossary, providing a list of names and their pronunciations, which was handy- but again disrupted the flow when I had to keep referring back to it time and again. With 8 pages of names and pronunciations, things got a little confusing and complicated. Having such complex and unusual names added to the whole exotic feel to the ‘world’ in which the story is set- but it also made things more confusing than they needed to be when it came to reading it all.
I did enjoy the story and think this is set to be a fantastic series, I just wish some of the names and places weren’t so complicated- as it did detract a little from my overall enjoyment of the story.
The story is set to continue in Book #2, Valley of Lies.

Thank you, Katt Powers!

They decide to go to the adult amusement park in the Bahamas. Their relationship is tested when there are some unexpected twists and turns and some people that made me angry with what they did.

Will their relationship stay strong?

Overall this was a great read. All of the characters added a great element to the story. My heart went out to Paisley, being a pregnant emotional mess with all that was going on. ☆☆☆☆☆
This is a full length steamy novel. While this is a Contemporary Romance, you will find suspense of the best kind. Once again this book will not disappoint. Not recommended for those under 18 due to the adult theme.

This story will introduce you to Calvin and Paisley. Calvin is taking Paisley on a vacation of her dreams. He has kept this secret until the plane takes off. While she had not known of Spicetopia, it does not take her long to find out. He is vanilla and she is not. That is all I can say about this story. You just have to read it to believe. Have fun! I did!

Phoebe Alexander has done it again. This book was so fun to read. Your emotions will be toyed with as well. Oh and the rollercoaster ride is exactly what you will find in this romance. I absolutely loved Calvin and Paisley! They are a true couple in love. Even though the green monster may want to join in this story, Paisley trusts her husband and reads between the lines. This is a must read. Little romance and a little suspense. Be sure to follow the series, you will find it will help you to know all of these characters. Well done Phoebe Alexander! Well done!

Loyalty &Lies is the sixth nook in the Spicetopia Series by Phoebe Alexander. I freaking loved this Romance book that has hot and steamy scenes that you will need a cool down. I’ve read several other books by this author and I’m sad because I don’t want it to be done yet. Although these can be read as standalones I do however recommend reading this series in order to get the full experience of Spicetopia through the different characters plus they kinda crossover. We first met Calvin and Paisley in The Eastern Shore Swingers Series so I was excited when I seen we was getting more of their story. These two are celebrating wedding anniversary and the upcoming arrival of a baby. Calvin wanted to take Paisley away somewhere special since they didn’t get a honeymoon. Then the story gets really interesting and I couldn’t put it down. Paisley thinks she might have caught Calvin in a Lie. Was it a lie or something else entirely? Find out what happens next in this book. I highly recommend reading. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
