This was a lovely funny chick-lit book. The characters were well written and really relatable. The relationship between the friends is on that I recognise as it sounds like me and my friends which makes the story even more fun and relatable.

All Marlowe wants is a quiet life. Safe in her world where the only romance she has it through the books she writes. With good friends and her pets she wants nothing else in life.

Heath is a model who had decided to leave the spotlight and work in the family business. He feels its time to slow down and settle down. And the women of his choosing is Marlowe.

Can he show her what romance is like when it’s not written on a page? Can Marlowe let her guard down enough to give Heath a chance?

This story is short but packed full of drama for you crime lovers out there! Full of drama and both sides of the law with a dash of family drama is not how Braelynn expected to celebrate her new promotion to law partner. Seth, the good son to a Mafia family didn’t plan to introduce his girlfriend to the family this way but when there’s a body on the floor needs must. This book was a great way to start. I can’t wait for the second book to come out.

Dark. It’s all dark. Darker than you could ever possibly imagine. Not even a candle can flicker an incandescent light in front of me. Even now, years after I escaped, I’m still living in darkness. I’m still running.
I’ve spent my entire life gazing at the stars, wondering if I’ll ever get to live in the light. It must be dazzling and wonderful.
You’ve read about tortured souls, but you’ve never read about mine. I was taken before I was even born. It was my destiny and written in my stars.
My soul’s not just tortured, it’s unrepairable and hollow. I left part of it back in Hell, and I can’t go back. I won’t go back. Not ever.
You think you’ve read it all?
You haven’t.
And sadly … it’s all true. It happened to me. And I hate that it’s my life.
I shouldn’t be alive. Life was never my own. Nothing was given to me and everything was taken from me. I ran. I fought. I stayed alive. Well, my body survived, my mind didn’t.
I’m damaged beyond repair. I live on my nerves. I feel emotions bigger than myself, and I am many things.
Vulnerable
Anxious.
.
Paranoid.
Guarded.
.
Ashamed.
Dirty.
Exposed.
And I feel alone.
I pray that one day I will be free. But that means placing trust and letting someone in.
Would they make me brighter? Would they make me believe? Would I make them dark?
I’ve never wanted to feel for someone else because I’m far too broken and deep. It scares me. I don’t trust easily. I’m curious, but I’m nervous.
I’ve never felt lust, or love, or light.
Until now.
I feel Lucca Caruso, and everything he symbolises.
He desires me. He wants me. He worships me. He loves me. He protects me. He makes me feel alive. He sets my body on fire. He melts my heart. He gives me him. All of him.
He is lust.
He is love.
He is light.
I trust him.
I want him.
I need him.
He is everything I have fought my entire life to avoid. He makes me feel.
He is taking me places I never imagined could be possible. He is giving me new life. He is keeping me in his light. He is giving me his heart, body, mind, and soul. I love it … I love him. And there is no other place I want to be other than in his arms.
With Lucca … I feel like I can breathe. I’m alive. I need him to keep me here.
I’m Lexi and this is my story about a world of darkness and a journey towards the light.

Four Stars

Love Between the Lines: A Contemporary Romance Sprinkled With Chick-Lit and Rom-Com is the first book in The Page Turners series by A.D. Brazeau. This is the first book I have read by this author, but definitely won’t be the last. This is a story of Marlowe, a romance writer, and Heath, a book cover model. This book dealt with some heavy issues including anxiety. This book had my emotions rolling from beginning to end. I have to say it it made me laugh out loud but also had me reaching for tissues. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Two Hearts, One Stone by Leslie Scott -Review by Kerry Carr

Two Hearts, One Stone (Boots and Babies)Two Hearts, One Stone by Leslie Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this cowboy romance. It has all the elements of a good romance, the womanizer  cowboy and the smart woman trying to resist his charms.
The characters are really well written that you can’t help feel invested in their story. Even though the book is a short read it contains a full story which is nice as some short reads feel like they are missing parts.

Stone is a horse trainer. He’s the best in the business at what he does and he has a reputation as a ladies man. However all that changes when 2 woman walk into his life and blow it apart.

The first is his baby niece. When she is left by her mother Stone has to change his ways from the playboy cowboy to become the little girls father. Stone has no idea what to do so he goes to the only person he can think of Emmy.

Emmy had moved to live with her Pop and open up her pediatric clinic. The last thing she wants is to get involved with the cowboy. However when Stone turns up on her door step with a sick child she finds herself drawn to him.

Can you really fight what’s meant to be? Will Stone go back to his old ways and hurt Emmy? Will they work as a ready made family?

Forged By Secrets is the third book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops series by Amy McKinley. All three of these books could be read as standalones, but I would recommend that you read them in order. They are about three brothers, each with their own story. This book features Tyler and Malina. This book is my favorite of the three. It flowed from beginning to end. It was full of secrets, danger and scorching chemistry. Just a perfect weekend read.

This is the third book in the Billionaire Bodyguards series by Via Mari. I have enjoyed her writing more and more with every book. This author knows how to pull me in from the first page until the last page. Her characters are fully developed and relatable. Auctioned is Damian and Bryanna’s story. There is a lot of action with some suspense added in for good measure. Damian’s client brought Bryanna’s case to his attention. She is inside a human trafficking ring, He is determined to get her out of that hell. Will Damien be able to save her from that lifestyle? Will Bryanna be able to trust him? I highly recommend this book. It is a page-turner for sure.

Braelynn defends the Giordano family as their defence attorney. After defending Seth they fall for each other despite all the reasons they shouldn’t be together. Braelynn makes a terrible error one night that could ruin her life. This story shows what can happen when desperation leads to murder and what lengths love will go to to save the day. This is an incredible story I highly recommend.

Love Between the Lines by A.D. Brazeau – Review by Sherry Combs Sharpnack

Love Between the LinesLove Between the Lines by A.D. Brazeau
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don’t often read romances, but this romance was intriguing: how could I not like a story about a romance writer who hasn’t experienced any romance in the two years after a bad break-up? And this book has one of the greatest opening lines EVER: “Under the Sheets was always a good time.”
Well, we’re off with a bang! Or — maybe Marlowe wasn’t referring to what I thought she was referring to…
Marlowe Bennet is a romance writer w/ a serious lack of romance in her life. She is a successful romance novelist who has two great friends in her sister Lucy and best friend Iris, a fellow romance writer. Marlowe is content w/ her friends, her two cats, and just wants to live in her sweats, write her books, and hide from her anxiety disorder. But then she runs into the hunky Heath Rochester, a cover model for romance novels (like Fabio?) w/ whom she’d shared a few steamy kisses a year before. It turns out Heath has a surprising career outside of modeling that perfectly compliments Marlowe’s own career. Undeniable sexual chemistry and fate ensue.
Again, this isn’t a typical romance as it doesn’t follow the usual trope of girl-meets-boy, snogs boy, then contrived misunderstandings force them apart. I like that we get a view of strong female friendships, and some sparkling repartee between the characters. For all these reasons, I give the book a solid four stars.

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May – Review by Jenni Bishop

Scorching Hot MessScorching Hot Mess by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May is a rom com and flowed well from start to end. Brooke brings her loveable, quirky, and realistic characters to life. They are believable and you become invested in them. This story has a little bit of everything in it, from drama and fun, sarcasm and drunken nights, to holly hotness and lazy boyfriends, to frustration and love and of devil besties. Brooke is really good at writing rom com and always makes me laugh out loud and getting funny looks on the bus.

Willow Everett is definitely a hot mess. She is also sassy and bold, funny, and feisty and after one drunken night her life is about to change.

I enjoy Brooke’s writing and haven’t read anything I have not liked from her. I mean who doesn’t like a blind racoon as a pet?

Love Between The Lines: A Contemporary Romance Sprinkled with Chick-Lit and Rom-Com by A.D. Brazeau is the first book in the Page Turner Series. I found this to be quite a sweet story with relatable characters. It is a pretty quick read and I found myself being carried along with the story. This is an entertaining read as I was quite surprised to find it quite amusing. The main characters were engaging from start to finish. I found myself rooting for them to find their happy ending. I thought the secondary characters were well written and helped to create more of a depth to the story as a whole.

This is another unique and interesting twist on some classic tales. I thought this book was even better than the first and I loved getting back into the character of Captain Hook. His journey is taking him through new lands where he meets some new characters – Red being the one we really get to know. I thought the whole story was well written and really added to the series as a whole. It is hard to add such an original twist on such well known stories and yet this author has managed to go just that. I am looking forward to seeing what is to come next.

Ocean’s Light (Blood of the Pirate BOOK 1) by Mina Chara – Review by Dani Dando

The Ocean's LightThe Ocean’s Light by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A nice breath of bracing sea air, that was an absolute pleasure to read. I honestly didn’t know what I expected going into this, but honestly, this is the most swashbuckling and interesting adventure story that I have read in a long time, and I read a lot. Thought that Chara brought back the magic of pirate adventures that has not really been done effectively since the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (I ignore the other movies.)
The crew of the ship appropriately named Easy Money, are traveling the seas in search of the Oceans Light, which happens to be a mystical artifact that has all but passed into legend. This artifact is powerful though and Evie and the crew will stop at nothing to keep it from falling into the wrong hands, especially the hands of Captain Hammer who would use the awesome power the Oceans Light possesses for ill.
I honestly enjoyed every second of this, enjoying the characters and the all-around piratey-ness. Think that children and adults alike can find something to adore in this book, its great fun, and sort of makes you want to hoist the sails and set off on your own adventure, fraught with mythical creatures and long-forgotten artifacts, and of course a dash of piracy along the way. Cannot wait to read the next books in the series.

This is the first book I’ve read by Powers, but it won’t be my last. The Imperial Assassin Series is a great way to begin a new author.

Dhani Karim has been casted out of the Imperial Assassin group. She was casted out for something she didn’t do, but now she has to clear her name. The quote I chose for Dhani is: “As a matter of fact, there is something else, Adjutant…. Perhaps Adjutant Ziraat, you could explain why I wasn’t informed of the change earlier?”

Highly recommended for Fantasy Adventure lovers.

Red’s Tangled Tale (The Untold Stories Book 2) by Suzanna Lynn – Review by Karen Pearman

Red's Tangled Tale (The Untold Stories, #2)Red’s Tangled Tale by Suzanna Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just got around to reading this book after finishing Hook’s Little Mermaid earlier this month. And I must say that this was a great follow-up story in the series. I am a huge fan of fairy-tales and this was no exception. The way that the author mixes different fairy-tale characters within one another is phenomenal. She takes these characters that we already know and love so well and makes them into the heroes that we know they are just didn’t have the rest of the story to go with them. She also may or may not foretell of some characters for the future books, but she will keep you engaged and guessing. And trust me, you will love the way she weaves the stories and characters together. I will say that if you haven’t read the previous book then you may have some issues with the story so keep that in mind if you decide to read just this story.

The Ocean’s Light (Blood of the Pirate Book 1) by Mina Chara – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

The Ocean's LightThe Ocean’s Light by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Ocean’s Light is a gift from the sea to mankind, it can grant any wish to the one chosen to wield it, but it comes with a price, as all magic does, but it is a temptation to those who haven’t been chosen as well. When first gifted the light, the girl chosen wants to use the wish for good, but she also knows that it is a great responsibility on her shoulders, however, the more she argues with herself over what to wish for, the more she realises that she doesn;t want any part of this gift after all, so she decides to return it to the sea and into the arms of guardian who takes into the depths.

Many years later and The Ocean’s Light has become a myth, but there are still a few who believe in its existence and one who holds the key to it, although they don’t know they do, only that it is the only thing linking them to a family lost so they decide to take destiny into their own hands when they have to choose between staying where they have grown up or finding a crew to take them to where this key leads. Things do not go quite to plan and instead of finding and leading a crew, they are kidnapped by one, however, there is another crew who want to help them escape from their captivity, meanwhile in the background there is a third crew who want this key for themselves and will do anything to get it.

Will the person who holds the key find out the secret it opens and what will they do with the information? Which of the three crews will help and which ones will hinder the exploration and will the prize be worth the price in the end? This is a fantasy adventure across unknown seas to far away lands, with a fair amount of thievery and swashbuckling along the way, it is a book anyone and everyone can enjoy from start to finish as secrets are revealed and truths are uncovered.

Malina has kept her distance from her High School crush but one is all it takes for her to be completely smitten with him but as they say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Can it really be that simple?

Malina is working for the Navy Seals and in her darkest dreams would she believe that she would also see her High School Crush Tyler within that environment but one night of too much alcohol and lost inhibitions and his fantasy becomes a reality, then the cold light of day hits her and she returns to normal and tries to ignore Ty as nothing had happened.

Tyler has had a magical night with the Malina in Vegas but she has become offish to him once they are back but he can’t get it out of his head so when he returns back from a mission and finds she is accused of treason and is missing his only instinct is to find her and protect her.

I have read all the books in this series and I was wondering if Tyler would get his time in the limelight as he has always had a bubbling storyline in the other two books, although this is a series each book can be read as a stand-alone story. I loved the chemistry between these two characters and the story ebbs and flows through and is such a page turner. As I have said I have loved the character of Ty in the previous books and this shows the vulnerable side and I’m so glad that he has found a woman in Malina who is smart and a strong character in her own right.

I love the way Amy portrays her female characters with just enough vulnerability to need rescuing but with smarts and intelligence to be an equal to the Alpha males’ roles which just makes reading. I hope there is another book in this series and we get to see all the characters mature into their relationships. I recommend this story and this story so you will not be disappointed.

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6)Daisy’s Darkness by D.M. Earl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an interesting and emotional read. It is a book for young adults. It covers issues that some young people deal with and the author covers sensitive topics in a way that is respectful but also informative.

Daisy was a normal girl. Until her life starts being overtaken by a darkness she doesn’t understand. The things in her life that brought her joy don’t any more. Her family are trying to help but Daisy feels like she can’t reach out to them.

Add to all this confusion the fact Daisy is being bullied constantly and forcing herself to purge after every meal and it is a situation that is unhealthy and gets worse as time progresses.

Is there a way through this darkness? Can Daisy fight her demons? Can she reach for the help she desperately needs? Or will the darkness consume her completely.

Namaste, dear friends! I am Sadie Beauchamp- empath, holistic medicine woman, and crystal collector. I own a small shop near Michigan Avenue in Chicago, live upstairs, and have a business partner, Neil, who is very into the occult.
I also have five soul sisters who love and respect my abilities, although, to be truthful, they don’t exactly understand my life. One is a lovely woman who has found her worth. Another is almost as free-spirited as I, merely pacing her cage at the moment. Yet another is a paragon of beauty and grace, with immense restraint and an imminent implosion. My older soul sister has a tragic past, which shapes her personality. Finally, my goth-loving, gun-toting, smart-mouthed sister, who has secrets too painful to reveal, and a brother, Mitchell, who masks his inability to save her by rescuing those the world has forgotten.
My five soul sisters keep me grounded, and that’s why I’m afraid to share my darkest secret with them. I may not have a choice, though. My past is coming back to haunt me. If I tell them, my friend Kimy will probably insist on calling her brother, Mitchell, who tries to save the world. You see, I have a small problem. I think my store is haunted, and someone is after me.
And Mitchell? Well, he scares me—at least I get nervous and shivery whenever he is near. His aura is so murky, I can’t begin to read it.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure my heart can stand his presence for that long. Of course, Chloe doesn’t think it’s anxiety; she believes it’s attraction. Me? Attracted to Mitchell? We are complete opposites.

Daisy’s Darkness was an emotional roller coaster, from start to finish the author had me in tears as the book follows a young and depressed teenage girl who is on the verge of a mental breakdown. D.M. uses the story to show how important it is to not only have people you trust in your corner, but also the importance of reaching out for help even at your lowest point. This book hit home for me in a myriad of ways because at that age I too went through some of the same things as Daisy. I loved the happy ending the most, because in the end she realized she was not alone and that no matter how deep of a hole she got into it wasn’t too late to turn things around.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Ocean’s Light (Book One in the Blood Of The Pirate series) by Mina Chara was a really good read! This was a fast-paced novel, full of action, adventure and of course pirates! The storyline is very interesting, and the characters were strange and very well written. I was instantly enthralled in this novel when I started reading it. The only thing I didn’t enjoy so much, was that the novel felt rushed. I felt like the events that transpire during the novel could be more well explained, yet weren’t, so some events felt confusing to me. Other than that this novel was great! I can’t wait to read the next installment!

Jordan’s Shadow by T.R. Cupak – Review by Tawnee McAfee

Jordan's ShadowJordan’s Shadow by T.R. Cupak
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Betrayal, revenge, depression, erotic are just a few words to describe this page turner, From the moment I opened this book I found it hard to put down. The relationship between our heroine if you will and her “shadow” is anything but boring, hot and almost romantic and riveting each new page makes you want more. I devoured this book faster than I expected to but I loved it.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The author puts a realness factor to the characters that you almost feel like you know them. Though I’m not one for strong language, I found it to be a very cute and enjoyable read. Holliday had me laughing through a lot of the book, which is always a plus for my taste. Can’t wait to read more.

Loyalty & Lies (Spicetopia Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez

Loyalty & LiesLoyalty & Lies by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loyalty & Lies is the 6th book in the Spicetopia series by Phoebe Alexander. I have read them all and enjoy them. They are really unique, and while the story has overlapping characters, you could pick up any book and read out of order and still enjoy it. These characters apparently cross over from another series, Eastern Shore Swingers, which I have not read. But all of Alexander’s books I’ve read are great, so I may venture into that series next. This book was full of drama and suspense. I liked that I didn’t really figure out what was going on until towards the end. I don’t want to say too much as there was a lot of secrets and mystery. But it was a great book and kept me hooked, I didn’t want to put it down. Definitely for the more mature audience, as the entire series takes place at a adult theme park full of sexual experiences. Not for the faint of heart, but at the same time, it wasn’t so graphic that I was turned away. It was well written and like always, the characters are great.
