City of Whispers (Imperial Assassin, #1)City of Whispers by Katt Powers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an action-packed adventure from the word go. The writer uses powerful scene setting and sharp, quick witted dialogue to bring this fast paced, dangerous story to life. I enjoyed the well thought out plot and the main protagonist, Dhani Khiram is a brave, intelligent ex-assassin who has been relocated to Regional Command. Partnered with Captain Parvan Gorshayik she sets out to uncover a plot that will lead her on a dangerous and exciting path. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next novel in Khiram’s world.

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Kerry Baker

Shift Happens: New Orleans Nocturnes, Book 2 Audiobook by Carrie Pulkinen is a fantastic audio version is an incredible book. Having already read this I knew I really enjoyed the book but I wasn’t expecting the narration to bring the book to life so much. It made it so easy to picture the characters and the adventure that was awaiting for them. I loved being able to visualise every aspect of the book. And the person they got to narrate this was the absolute perfect choice. Her voice drew me in completely and I loved the fact that the accent matched the story so well. It really made for a much more immersive experience and couldn’t not have been done any better. I have a read a lot of books by this author, who has easily become one of my favourites, and from now on I will definitely be listening to more.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Two Hearts, One Stone (Boots and Babies) by Leslie Scott is a well written romance story. This is a new author for me and I enjoyed the way the characters were portrayed in the book. I felt the chemistry between them right from the word go. The sparks just seemed to fly between them. I thought their story was an enjoyable. They aren’t really as different from each other as I initially thought. I thought this was a great short story and the perfect way to be introduced to this author. I am looking forward to discovering more of her work in the future.

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato ) by Cam Johns & Sonya Jesus – Review by Dani Dando

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato #0)Sons of Sindicato by Cam Johns
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I really don’t get on well with stories that have unbelievable relationships, or relationship development that feels too quick or forced. As such, I found this story a little bit difficult to get into and as it isn’t my sort of thing, I felt like it was lost on me. It is well written though, even if I don’t like the story being told I can appreciate the talent of the person who is telling it and Johns and Jesus write very well, their combined styles seamless.
Braelynn Shaw is a hotshot lawyer who is awesome at her job, but she has a bit of secret that she can’t tell anyone, as this may affect her career path, and is close to being made partner she does not want to jeopardize it. Seth Giordano is her dirty little secret, both her boyfriend and the youngest son of the Sindicato, a nice harmless group of mob families. When Braelynn crosses an ethical and moral line Seth steps in to help her, meaning that their closely kept secret has to be brought out into the open, which spells a problem as the mob families, surprise surprise, aren’t the most accepting. Who’d have thunk it ay? What’s that old adage though, the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Well, when a common enemy rear their ugly head then the families seem to forget years of tradition and begrudgingly accept their relationship and the strong-willed Braelynn.
I don’t really know much about mob families, but I found their quick acceptance of the relationship a little hard to swallow, just felt too quick especially considering the emphasis on years of tradition and whatnot. As I said before this is not my type of tale and as such, I found it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story and in the plight of the characters. Still Johns and Jesus (sounds almost biblical) are competent writers and obviously work very well together. Would recommend this to anyone that loves a good dose of angst with their romance.

Red’s Tangled Tale (The Untold Stories Book 2) by Suzanna Lynn – Review by Dani Dando

Red's Tangled Tale (The Untold Stories, #2)Red’s Tangled Tale by Suzanna Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot say this enough Lynn is amazing!! Seriously, I was impressed by the first book, taking a well-known tale and putting its own interesting and intriguing spin on it, but this one just went above and beyond. Red riding hood is a well-known tale, and there was a period where the story was sort of played around with a bit. What I remember of these attempts was that they were okay, but they just didn’t do much. Lynn is ambitious and creative with the way she takes the classics that we know and love and weaves a more nuanced and mature tale, that blurs the line of good and bad, and reveals the human nature in all the characters.
Red has always been a badass really, even in the original tale she still showed either pure idiocy or bravery that is very rare. In this she is a hunter, seeking out those that killed her father. When Captain Hook shows up – somehow now my favorite character, years of childish hatred be damned – she decides to help him locate the rare burning ash in the Blakx Forest. The same forest where her father died and where pretty everyone in her village is afraid to go, for good reason mind because that is where the wolves like to hang out, and it turns out they aren’t very friendly.
This is a great adventure story, and even without its ties to the classic tales that everyone knows and loves, it is fantastic. The characters are so changed and explored so much more deeply that they feel new and refreshing, and you honestly can’t help but love them. I have the next book in the series lined up and ready to read, because I honestly cannot get enough of Lynn’s storytelling.

Electric Temptation (The Protectors Series Book 5) by Toya Richardson – Review by Opal Nelson

Electric Temptation (The Protectors Series Book 5)Electric Temptation by Toya Richardson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first time reading a book by Toya- she did not disappoint! Toya has mastered the art of storytelling. Her characters came alive on the pages and her writing style captivates the reader. I tried to squeeze in a chapter before bed and I could not put it down (thank God for coffee!!). A page-turner! I admired her creativity in the characters’ abilities, the vivid descriptions of each scene and the portrayal of strength depicted through the female characters. I was a bit sad when it ended- Electric Temptation is one of those stories that the more you read, the more you want to know- but you don’t want it to come to an end. Well played Toya Richardson, well played.

Twisted Throttle (Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation #3) by Manda Mellett – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Twisted Throttle (Satan's Devils MC Second Generation #3)Twisted Throttle by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love Manda Mellett’s Satan’s Devils MC series and I was really looking forward to this book and I was definitely not disappointed. I was hooked from page one of ‘Twisted Throttle’ which focuses on Noah, who’s road name is Throttle and Gwen. Noah is in fact the son of Peg who was an original Satan’s Devils member and his Old Lady Darcy. Throttle is now a patched in member of the MC and the Clubs Enforcer, which is why it’s a surprise when someone starts stalking him. Then his sisters friend from high school Gwen starts working as a waitress at the clubs ‘Wheel Inn’ restaurant and bar, and although Throttle never noticed her before he definitely notices her now. He starts to rethink his ‘one night only’ rule but is not sure if he’s ready for an ‘Old Lady’ of his own. Meanwhile, things escalate with his stalker and go from gifts from an admirer to silent phone calls to something more dangerous, and when Gwen is put in danger Throttle knows he has to confront his crazy one night stand turned stalker. I could not put this book down and was gripped by the storyline and the plot twists kept me guessing until the last page. I loved Throttle and Gwen and their sizzling chemistry really came across in the narrative. The story was action packed and fast paced and as usual full of drama, suspense and or course romance. I am now impatiently waiting for the next Satan’s Devils MC book in the series.

City of Whispers: Imperial Assassin Book 1 by Katt Powers – Reiew by Roxsanne Lesieur.

City of Whispers (Imperial Assassin, #1)City of Whispers by Katt Powers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dhani Karim is a trained assassin, her weapons of choice are throwing knives, a metal baton, hair accessories which double as lethal spikes, a bracelet which can be used as a garotte and a set of lock picking tools in her brassiere, but in a land of magic, she is one of the few people who cannot wield it. However, due to an accusation of a murder she didn’t commit, she has now been demoted from Imperial Assassins to a lowly covert operative for a year until a judgement can be made as to whether she can rejoin the ranks and as such has been sent to the smallest town which is at the furthest point possible from the capital city.

Dhani has just arrived in the Imperial Colony of Tizrak Yirda to report to her superior, it is a hot, dry place with insects galore, but the thing she is least happy about is the touchy feely guard who took it upon himself to frisk her at the entrance of the Regional Command building with the excuse that it was to find her weapons, although he did get a cracked rib courtesy of her elbow for the inconvenience. Repeating the Imperial Assassin’s mantra she enters the office and faces the music, amid the veiled and outright insults she is told that she is not wanted and that it is only because it has been ordered that she is allowed to be there, she will also have to work with a partner, who isn’t wanted either and that their assignment is to find an individual of interest. The two of them are handed a file and told they have three days to find this person, but that they don’t need to know why they are looking for them and after they are dismissed, they go to find their office which is tiny and full of dust where her partner asks her why she hasn’t kept to protocol and isn’t impressed with her answers, or her attitude, however, she isn’t impressed with his attitude either, but they come to an understanding and an agreement eventually and come up with a plan of action, but albeit reluctantly.

When they go to the archives to pull the files they need, they find that one of the people who should have a file doesn’t and others who don’t need a file do, but they put it to the back of their minds and decide who they are going to talk to first, but it isn’t as easy and straightforward when the people on the list are less than enthusiastic to talk to them, one of them is even dead, but they are sure that at least one of them is lying about what they know. As they make their way through the other names of the list, they find that they are being tailed and are eventually attacked, but when three others join in, they realise that they are outnumbered, but they prevail and Dhani is dropped off outside her lodgings as her partner goes to find some much needed medical help, she finds that one of the people is wearing a bracelet with a religious symbol on it, which looks familiar. The evening is not over for Dhani though as she finds that her apartment has been ransacked while they were out, she gathers what is left of her belongings and goes to find one of her stashes to replenish them, the next thing she does is to go to another place where she knows she will receive a warm welcome and have a place to stay.

Over breakfast the next morning, she talks to the people she is staying with and finds out some interesting information , but when she goes on the search for her partner, she realises that he is not going to be of any help to her, so she decides to draft a message to send the the General to tell him of the developments in the case. As the days progress and this simple search for a missing person becomes a lot more complicated and every time Dhani thinks she has a handle on things, something else happens, but will she be able to solve the mystery of this person of interest and why it ties into the religious imagery she has seen popping up everywhere before it is too late to do anything about it? This is an adventure with more twists and turns than a maze and is just as entertaining, it is a book which pulls you in and keeps you hooked until the end.

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May – Review by Karen Pearman

Scorching Hot MessScorching Hot Mess by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was concerned about this book as it is out of realm of my normal genres. Also, I wasn’t familiar with the author as I haven’t read any of her previous books. However, I will say that after reading this book I am going to check out some of her other books because that’s how much I enjoyed reading this one. I must say that I found this to be a very well written romantic story. The characters were very relatable I thought and while filled with their romantic journey there was quite a bit of drama mixed in as well. I found myself laughing out loud at a lot of the mess that she has managed to get herself into that makes her a “hot mess”. In fact, there were some instances that made me think back to several of my friends during their college years. This was a quick read for me because I found myself turning the pages to get to the end of the story. I was intrigued from the first chapter to see where and what was going to happen with this train wreck, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was a wild but fun ride.

I enjoyed this book. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her yet. One thing I enjoy most about this author is her ability to write and her attention to details. I enjoy being pulled into this story from the beginning. The characters are connectable and keep the story engaging to the end. They brought life to the story as they made it feel realistic. Zach and Emily are from two different worlds where family and friends may not be who they say they are. Could there be more to West Lakes and what darkness awaits in this world. The twists and turns bring suspense and kept me turning pages. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed this second chance romance-suspense story. This is the third book in this series which is just as good as the previous book. This is a well developed story about two people whose lives have taken them in different directions until years later when one needs help from the other. This is Thomas and Rayna’s story. I enjoyed how they brought the story to life. I also enjoyed their chemistry and watching their growth throughout the story was great. This story also has a suspenseful side to it. When Thomas agrees to help Rayna things turn to life and death as they uncover a dark secret. What happens next I highly recommend reading this book to find out. What will fate have in store for them?

The author continues to absolutely capture my attention and hold me captive with this series of books. I love her take on classic fairytales and her attention to detail as she weaves beloved tales together to create a new adventure. I loved this look into Red Riding Hood and her history. I love the tenacity that is brought forward in a little girl that is reduced to a silly and inattentive wisp quite often. Loved every page and cannot wait to read book 3!

This is a new genre for me, I love all things witches but never read many books about them.
This book was so fun, funny and engaging. I love listening to audiobooks it makes me feel so much closer to the characters. The narrator dos a great job of demonstrating the emotions of the character. My favourite was the sassiness of some of the characters, I could picture them acting in my head.
It has me intrigued to read the first book in the series. I very much enjoyed this audiobook, if you love werewolves and witches but mostly steamy romances THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Heather Lovelace

Four stars

I love Pulkinen’s writing and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing this story through audio. The narrator does a nice job conveying the emotion of all of the characters, especially the sass of a southern lady who is trying desperately to fit in to the supernatural community without an ounce of magic to her name, or so she thinks. A fun book and a fun listen.

I enjoyed this story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet by her. This is a well written book about attraction and how opposites attract sometimes. I enjoyed how the characters are relatable and kept the story engaging. They made the story feel realistic. Sadie owns a small store, has five soul sisters, and a business partner who is into occult. What will happen when her past comes back to haunt her? This is where Mitchell comes into the picture. They are complete opposites but what will fate have in store for her? I enjoyed how fast paced they kept the story. They truly made the story for me. I highly recommend this book.

Twisted Throttle (Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation #3) by Manda Mellett

5 ++++++ Stars

The mother chapter in Tuscan is and always will be my favorite of all of the Satan’s Devils and this second generation addition is something I absolutely love. It gets confusing here and there with the “club kids” and reminding myself throughout who is who and who is whose. None of that matters though because our “FOG’s” are still front and center making this part of all the series my new favorite!

Peg’s book is actually where I met the Satan’s Devils. I have since gone back and read them all but Peg will always hold a special place with me. Now his son has grown up and become the enforcer of the club. At first I had a small problem with Throttle and the way he spoke to Peg out loud and in his thoughts. That was the “Peg was my first, you better be nice” thoughts LOL But as it went on I was at ease with all that.

I just can’t go into this storyline, besides that I loved these two. I loved the hardness Throttle started out with, he had the softness he needed to make me fall in love with him pretty quick. I also loved Gwen from the first time I met her. I have said this in many reviews and I will say it again. I don’t know how this author can write so many books that center in the same group of people (The Satan’s Devils) and make each one different than any of the others, you never know what will come next. They are always hard to put down and even when I walk away for things like “adulting” all I’m thinking about is picking it back up.

This one O.M.G.! The story itself was enough to have me a complete mess, then…The End happened…. I just can’t, but I will say.. BEST TWIST EVER!! I thought I had everything figured out and sorted…Yea, that was a big NOT! I won’t anytime soon forget this book!

If you haven’t read any of these books, what are you waiting for? Honestly the books and the author sit way at the top of my all time favorites!!

Couldn’t have loved this any more than I did.

Auctioned (Billionaire Bodyguards Book 3) by Via Mari

5 Stars

Another fantastic addition to the amazing bodyguards. I have read all of this series as well as the ones that led up to these stories. This author has a knack of holding you hostage from the very first page. Every word matters and the story lines are always fresh and unique. Everytime I finish one Im convinced it’s my favorite of them all and I have learned that only remains true till I pick up the next one.

The connection between these 2 main characters was off the chart hot! Like put a fan in front of you hot, but in true Via Mari fashion, that’s not what makes the whole story. It’s the suspense and needing to know from one second to the other what’s going to happen next. I love that each book is its own story but you’re still visiting previous characters in every book. A person could pick up any one of them and start, but knowing how everyone got where they are and who they are makes each one that much better.

Loved it so much!! An absolute one click author for me!

Daisy’s Darkness (Wheels & Hogs Book 6) by D.M. Earl – Review by Tracy Wilkin

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6)Daisy’s Darkness by D.M. Earl
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Daisy’s Darkness is book six in the Wheels and Hogs series by D. M. Earl. Daisy’s story is a beautifully emotional that was as heartbreaking to read as it was heartwarming. Author Earl addresses some issues that our young adults have to struggle with in day to day life. A person is so impressionable at that age and this author has captured all those emotions, highs, lows, extremely well. The story was written very well and the story was really relatable. Daisy does not realise her self worth and is a victim of bullying. Her soul was hurting from the weight she carried and the pain she endured just by surviving another day.

Daisy’s Darkness was an unexpected surprise and the story left me battered but elated that I got to experience it in its raw and life like state. 5 stars.

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato #0)Sons of Sindicato by Cam Johns
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this novella, I really enjoyed how it was based on the wrong side of the law, with the Mafia family being the main characters.
Seth is the son of the Mafia boss, Braelynn is the criminal attorney who saved him from going to prison, and t1hey have been in a secret relationship ever since.
Seth believes his father would disapprove of her skin colour and not being Italian, whilst Braelynn is worried that sleeping with a client could cause her lose the career she’sworked so hard for.
When Braelynn needs Seth’s help, it becomes time to lay everything out and make some tough decisions about their future.
There was a lot going on in this story and I really enjoyed how it all tied in together. It gives a bit of an insight into how the Giordano family maintain their status. The interaction between Seth and his brother Dane was really entertaining to read and brought some light humour to the story.
This is a great introduction to the series and I definitely want to read the next book in the series to see what happens to them all next.

Kissing the KavalierKissing the Kavalier by Annette Nauraine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kissing the Kavalier by Annette Nauraine is a delightful historical romance set in 1867 Austria. It is rich in culture and details and gives you a vivid image of her narrative.

Countess Zdenka bucks all social convention when she sets about to find a husband for her sister but inadvertently falls for the one person she shouldn’t.

Kissing the Kavalier is Annette’s debut book and a poignant love story based on the opera, Arabella.

Jordan’s Shadow by T.R. Cupak
Four Stars

Jordan’s Shadow is a psychologically dark romance by T.R. Cupak. This is my first read by this author. I look forward to reading more of her book. This book had my emotions rub raw and it left me with a book hangover. I just keep thinking about it, and that to me is the definition of a great book. Jordan is a very strong character who is also troubled by events that happen in her life. This book was well written and had me enthralled and wondering what was going to happen next. If you like dark romance with some twists, you should read this book.

Twisted Throttle (Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation #3) by Manda Mellett – Review by Gail Guerrero

Five Stars

Another awesome MC read! I don’t know why I’m so addicted to MC books. Manda Mellett has written some of my favorite reads about MCs. These guys are big and bad but once that special person comes along you see a side of them you couldn’t even picture. This story definitely didn’t disappoint. We get to meet a child of one of the original MC members Peg. Noah aka Throttle is dark but sweet. He has his issues but he’s definitely a protector. He was made for the MC life. When his sisters childhood friend Gwen comes back around he feels nothing but a need to protect her. When someone seems to be stalking him he doubles his efforts to protect her. I definitely enjoyed his fall into love. When he definitely didn’t want it he found his other half. Gwen was extremely sweet and soft spoken. I found that they complemented each other well. I have enjoyed every book I have read by Manda Mellett let’s hope there are more to come.
