5 out of 5 stars

The story Hennessey on the Rocks by Monica DeSimone is a contemporary romance book. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until I had read the final page. It is a story that had my emotions going up and down with the characters. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Charlie and Jonathan. Charlie is a successful chief. She is independent, intelligent, and strong. She has found herself back in Camden, Maine looking to recharge herself and figure out what she wants. Jonathan is an award-winning author. He finds himself on the doorstep of the one woman that he has ever loved. There have been secrets and intense feelings which include disappointment and anger. What will happen when one more secret is revealed? What does the future hold for Charlie and Jonathan? Read this book to find out. Both Charlie and Jonathan are characters that I grew to care about and wanted them to find happiness. This story has heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. The author does a wonderful job of telling the story from both Charlie and Jonathan’s POV. Don’t miss out on a story that will have you with misty eyes as well as laughing out loud. I highly recommend reading it.

Tired of the noise of Manhattan and afraid the big city and its cynical outlook has jaded her thoroughly, she packs up her babies and returns home to Camden, Maine. The quiet coastal town holds memories of loved ones, offers space for her children to roam, and is the only place she longs to be. Here she hopes to recharge and reacquaint herself with who she is, what she wants, and how to love again.

Award-winning author Jonathan Hennessey has roamed the world several times over in the attempt to outrun the ghosts of his past. Hennessey on the Rocks by Monica DeSimone – Review by Angela Hayes

Hennessey On the Rocks is an engrossing and emotive read by the talented Monica DeSimone. This second chance romance had all the right ingredients needed to keep me hooked. From the interesting and endearing characters, to the wonderful story- full of drama, angst, secrets, discovery, emotion, romance, and humour- I was smitten right from the start.
Charlie and Jonathan were really great characters- enticing me into their story as everything unfolded, and even though they frustrated me at times, I was still cheering them on the whole way through. But it was a cute little 3 year-old who stole the whole show for me. She wasn’t just adorable- she was truly wise beyond her years. The banter and antics were funny and at times really heart-warming. This story wouldn’t have had the same impact without the addition of Abi, or Jace, that’s for sure.
I love the attention to detail, and the wonderfully descriptive scene setting Ms. DeSimone is so good at, and is superbly showcased here. It was so easy to visualize everything, right down to ‘hearing’ their ‘voices’- especially Abie’s cute 3 year-old way of saying things. There were quite a few memorable moments that makes this book one of my favourites of hers. And I can’t wait to try out the recipes from at the end of the book. Snicker-doodles….YUM!
But I really recommend having a box of tissues close at hand while reading, because this story is going to stir your emotions quite thoroughly!
I wonder what Ms. DeSimone has in store for us next?

Thank you, Monica DeSimone!

Hennessey on the Rocks by Monica DeSimone was a wonderful read. I literally could not out it down. It had me laughing out loud at times. I loved Charlie, Johnnie, Jace, and Abie. The were excellent characters. They were easy to visualize, realistic, and I loved how they changed as the story progressed. The storyline itself was organized, original, and easy to follow. It seemed to be professionally edited. I really enjoyed how this story carried me away into its world. That is something I really look for when reading. I highly recommend it!

This was a heart wrenchingly beautiful love story. When you find your true, one and only love at age 5, how can it possibly last a lifetime? That is what Charlie and Johnnie are trying to figure out. They were, are, and always will be the other half of each other. Yin and Yang. Light and darkness. But then again, don’t we all have a bit of darkness in us? This story explores that darker side. Anger, depression, alcoholism, fear. When we find someone who helps us combat those emotions, someone who brings light into our lives, we try to hold on to them in any way we can.

Charlie is that light to Johnnie. They are divorced but their son and Charlie’s daughter hold them together. The problem is they both have secrets and lies that could tear them apart forever, no matter how much love there is between them. The story isn’t all dark…you will instantly fall in love with Charlie’s daughter Abie. She is a 3 year old force of nature! Super smart and mature for her age, she knows just how to make everything better. She was definitely the star of the story. Making you laugh and smile even when you want to cry because your heart is hurting so badly for this family. And just wait until you see the antics she gets up to with the family pets!

This is truly a wonderful story that I feel I am better off for having read it. I highly recommend it and give it a full 5 stars! You don’t want to miss this one. Just be prepared for all the feels!

This is a well written story that has characters that pop off the pages and into your heart. A story of never dying love, a strong love and second chances. Charlie packs her children up and returns home, hoping to find herself again. Jonathan has been trying to out run his past but when he finds himself back in his hometown, he may just hit his past face on. These two have history, is there a second chance in their future or will lies destroy what’s left? I highly recommend this book.

Second Half (Coach’s Shadow Trilogy, #1) by Monica DeSimone – Review by Jenni Bishop

Second Half (Coach's Shadow Trilogy, #1)Second Half by Monica DeSimone
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Zoey McEvoy has not been whole since the love of her life walked away shattering her, taking her to some deep dark places. They were meant to be a team, the two of them against the world. She has spent the last eight years trying to make herself whole again but has been barely hanging on. Zoey has tried to put herself back together, trying to rebuild herself one step at a time, one piece at a time. Now she is faced with the man who walked away from her and piece by piece she is losing herself again. But the truths she learns tears her heart and show she really didn’t know the people who were meant to love her the most. How can she ever let this man back into her life after what he has done to her? She is supposed to be a strong independant woman but this man can bring hr to her knees. When he learns the truth of what happened all those years ago will he still want her?

Derrick Henderickson chose his career over the woman he supposedly loved. Now he is back and determined to get her back. But when he finds out the secret she has been hiding it breaks his heart. He realises that he did not just hurt her but he completely and utterly broke her to a depth he finds hard to comprehend. How can he win back the one woman he decimated? How can he get her to trust him again? Now he finds himself in a fight for her but will she ever let him back in? How can he prove to her that he will never walk away from her again? How can he prove to her that she has only ever been the one he has ever loved?

Will Zoey and Derrick finally find common ground? Will they be able to find their way back to each other? Can he repair the damage he has done to this beautiful soul?

This is the first book of the series and it is a good read. There is lots of heartbreak and learning to trust again in this beautiful bad sad story. The female characters in this story have so much strength and compassion that you can’t help but want to stay with them every step of the way. Monica weaves a story that you feel to your soul?

Encroachment (Coach’s Shadow Trilogy, #2) by Monica DeSimone – Review by Jenni Bishop

Encroachment (Coach's Shadow Trilogy, #2)Encroachment by Monica DeSimone
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Claire McEvoy’s is continuing to live her life under the fear and hurt and agonizing pain from being assaulted as a teenager. Claire has built a life time of walls, boxes, pu chains on and locked her heart up tight to everyone. Only one good thing came of that violent night and that one thing is her life. She lost so much that night, her innocence, her family and her best friend. Claire has learnt only one way to cope and that is to spend all her time and energy on taking care of everyone else. To make sure her girls have everything and want for nothing. She is never meant to find happiness and is ok with her lot in life. Claire has never let a man into her life since that night and never will. That is until she is rail roaded by the one person that may break down her barriers. But can she let him in?

Jackson Alexander lost it all twenty three years ago. Not only did he lose his best friend but he lost his dreams keeping the terrible ugly secret of that night from the past. He did it for her because he loved her, still loves her, he has loved Claire since she was fifteen years old. Even though she pushed him away, he has decided he is back and he will not let her push him away again. He thought friendship with her would sustain him but no more. Her time for running is over. She just doesn’t know it yet. Claire will certainly push and run but he will push harder. He loves his girls and his mission is to make them his. When he realised the past is in town and threatens all that he loves he vows and declares that he will do everything he has to make them feel safe, loved and wanted. To make sure they have everything they were denied.

Can Claire finally overcome the past? Can she learn to let a man in? Will she finally learn what it means to be loved? Will Claire finally be free of the past or will said past be to much to bear? Is Jackson the one to make Claire whole?

This story is sweet and romantic and had me laughing a few times even though it is based around a violent sensitive tragedy. I enjoyed the family of the characters. This book pulled at my emotions indicating that the author has done a good job at writing.
