This is a new author for me which I enjoyed reading and look forward to the next book in this series. This is a fun, entertaining story that has a little bit of everything in it. An engaging story where the characters are relatable and will keep you engaged throughout the story. I enjoyed how they pulled me into their world along with their twists and turns that kept me turning pages. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. A story that will make you question the saying three times is a charm, in this case it may not be such a charm as it is just plain unlucky. I enjoyed watching the growth of the plot as well as the characters throughout the story. This is a fun story that you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend it.

This is my first audible by this author which I enjoyed listening to.  I look forward to the next book in this series.  I enjoyed how the narrator pulled me into the story using different tones throughout.  This is a fun, entertaining story that has a little bit of everything in it.  An engaging story where the characters are relatable and will keep you engaged throughout the story.  I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the start and had to find out what happened next.  A story that will make you laugh and have you sitting on the edge of your seat the next minute.  Is three times a charm really all that lucky?  You don’t want to miss this one!  This is great audio and I highly recommend it.

Gwen is a character that I would want to be friends with. Sassy, strong and independent, she’s back and just wants to do her business. I found this to be quite the story. I loved it because it wasn’t your basic cookie cutter. It’s unique, creative and full of paranormal goodies in the story. I love a hot werewolf too. I’ve been naughty. Lock me up. You can feel the intensity of the emotions throughout the story. I found everything so entertaining and intriguing that I stayed up late to finish it. Well worth losing sleep over. I can’t wait to read more. Bring on more of this deliciousness.

There’s something about magic, action, and the supernatural that calls to my wicked soul. I enjoy most genre fiction, but am drawn to heroines like me and my weird circle of friends: not so slim, not that young, and even a wee bit cranky. But we also find joy and laughter, even in the darkest of times.

I fill my books with adventure, magic, loss, love, and casts bursting with diversity. Seriously, how boring would life be if we were all the same?

Okay, now the personal stuff.

I married the first boyfriend who made it past the four-month mark. Since we’ve been hitched over thirty-five years, I’m thinking he just might stick. The two cats? Well, they’re too spoiled and way too stubborn to move off the couch.

Take off your boots, grab a cold one and settle in for a magical good time.

Amazing conclusion to the series, just what I needed. It has everything you could want in a book. I would say that you should read the other books in the series first so you get the full picture. This book was a great but emotional conclusion to the series. The book picks up a year after the events of the previous book and we get to find out where life continues to take Imani, Melody, Lance and the rest of the crew. If you’ve read the previous books, you know that the characters have very eventful lives that include times of happiness and sadness, but no matter what they continue to persevere. This book for me hit close to home with some topics and I cried, but I also smiled and laughed with the characters as they continued to make their marks on me as a reader. I would recommend this book and the entire series for anyone who enjoys stories that are eventful, yet true to life.

Book 3 was emotional, heartfelt, and truly unpredictable. Melody, Imani, and Lance have weathered the storm of the start of adulthood and grown so much from book 1 to 3. They have proven life hurts, love can be cruel , and things will go far from what you wanted… but friendship can and will stand strong with the right people. Drama, angst, jealousy, and survival play a few role. I loved each book more than the last and I would not change a single thing.
Each character has a special role and they played it out until the end.

This is book 3 in this series and I definitely recommend reading this series in order.

Imani, Lance and Melody still navigating each life journey and they all have been through so much!! Imani (my favorite in this series) is strong, sassy and happy. She is now married to her love but when her world comes crashing she looks for Melody and Lance…..even though there has been some ups and downs along the way.

In conclusion this series has given love, life, friendship, secrets and just a roller coaster of true emotion that seems so real.

Well done.

True Colors is exactly how I needed this series to end. If you haven’t already read the other books in the series you definitely need to start there.

Melody, Lance, and Imani are faced with new challenges. In order to navigate those challenges, they must first sort out their friendships in an attempt to save and start relationships. When one of the friends is unexpectedly faced with the loss of their spouse the three friends must lean on each other. The loss not only challenges the core group of friends, it also affects their college friends, families, and work.

True Colors highlights how important relationships are in all stages of life; especially the ‘no-matter-what’ friends.

Amazing, through and through. I only feel as though the emotional roller coaster that this series put me through was a little draining, as I would get my hopes up and felt as thought the start to this novel covered me in goosebumps and set a certain outlook for the remainder of this read. This just goes to show how powerful and apt this author is, and her writing style hits home for me, and many others it would appear.

Overall, I cried happy and sad tears, wished for the strength of these characters to float off the pages into my own soul, and snuggled up through a rainy day to finish this novel in one weekend. I have far more respect for those that have to go through discrimination and feel as though I understand different viewpoints more clearly, thanks to these three novels, especially this finale. It really did the best at closing up unanswered questions, tying up lose ends, and making the reader weep with joy. I so very much look forward to reading more of her works of art, and hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. Well done!

This is the third book in this series. I highly suggest reading the previous two books before this one to help your enhancement of the series and the characters. I have enjoyed reading this series and look forward to seeing what is next for this author. Thai is a well written story about friendship and how the past can haunt you. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters from the start. They brought the story to life on each page. They kept the story engaging and hard to put down. I found this book to be fast paced which made it easy to read. It kept me turning pages fast just to see what would happen with these three characters. I enjoyed what they brought to the story and their growth is great. This is a great read that I highly recommend.

This was a well written book with lots of excitement. My one drawback was there were moments where I felt like I was missing something which became apparent when I understood that this was book 2.5 in the series. which is my fault, not the authors. LM Preston has created characters with spunk and a likeable personality. I enjoyed this story enough to want to go back and read the series from the start!

I’ve read some of the other novels in this series and from what I gather it doesn’t follow the same character throughout the novels. Maybe one or two follows the same character then the next novel has a different main character so I am not sure if I need to read them in order or not.

In this novel we follow Rei who gets a job at the school newspaper. Now she can do what she is good at: investigating. Similar to other stories where characters start to unravel hidden secrets, this also starts to put Rei’s life in danger. Not only her life but her family as well.

I will need to read the novel before this but I really enjoyed this and I could not put it down. It is such a great feeling when you haven’t read about a world in so long but it still grips you from the first page.

I loved Rei and how many thought she was weak only to be surprised with how wrong they were.

I’m not sure how many novels will be in this series but I am looking forward to not only catching up on the previous novels but the future ones as well.

Break The Darkness (Vigilant, #2.5)Break The Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am honestly in love with the world LM Preston has created in the Vigilant series books. As soon as I finish one, I instantly start the next. This book gives us the third perspective of the Lewis family moving to Newport, Rhode Island. Unlike the POV of the previous 4 books (EmVee and Dex), Rei is very different from her older siblings, she is less confrontational and more of the quiet observer.

It has been a month since her family moved to the small town leaving behind her hometown New York City, Rei decides to check out the back-to-school club fair, in hopes of finding a dance club. In the parking lot Rei eavesdrops for the first time since moving, a cheerleader and her boyfriend are having an argument that leads to the girl seeing her. Megan, the girl who not only runs the school newspaper but also a down low blog surprises Rei, convincing her to work for her. Feeling foggy headed Rei agrees only to instantly be confused, as the fog cleared from her mind, as to why she would agree. She noted instantly that Megan could be pretty, but she had the eyes of a predator and that set off a strange feeling. The more Rei sees of the new town she calls home the more she feels that it is off, everything from the houses to the people seem fake, giving her the feeling that something was very wrong in the town. Meeting a few of her fellow classmates she has already gotten her first crush on a football player named Trey, and a cute cell phone charm from a girl named Yori at the club fair. On her first assignment from Megan Rei “borrows” her older sister EmVee’s car to pick up her partner after his car breaks down on the way to school. Discovering he is the boy that was arguing with the cheerleader a week earlier in the parking lot she is already feeling cold towards him, the feeling growing after she is pulled over and he tells him he was late to pay an informant that is why Rei was speeding. Hiding in a locker Rei hears her partner get beat up “hazed” by the varsity football team, she got the information needed but can’t help but feel slightly uneasy about seeing him covered in cuts and bruises. What are the diamond members and what is the secret shadow police force that Megan mentioned to her?

Rei is just as skilled as her older siblings in martial arts, but she prefers to stay hidden and learn the secrets others try to hide. Will Megan lead her into something she can’t hide from and why does she care so much about her family and their secrets? Every book in the series pulls you deeper into the world the Lewis family. Rei thinks more about how she can use things to her advantage holding back information, even about herself, until she thinks it will be the most useful. I cannot wait to read Rebel of Fire and See where Rei’s story takes her.

Break the Darkness is book #2.5 in the Vigilant series by L.M. Preston. This story is from Rei’s point of view, so this book is building on what we have previously experienced and lets us dive deeper into things- which is all helping to build a bigger picture of what is going on.
Again, as with the rest of the series, this is an action-packed YA fantasy with paranormal/supernatural/sci-fi elements, action, adventure, mystery, drama, danger, emotion, challenges, agendas, magic, secrets, family, choices, and more.
This could be read as a standalone, but you would be missing out on all the other stories, character introductions, and interesting background information that will help you better appreciate this book, and the series as a whole- as well as adding to the bigger picture that is being painted.
This series is definitely getting better and better the further we go. Looking forward to reading more!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, L.M. Preston.

This is book 2.5 of the Vigilant Series. I have loved this series from the first book and I strongly recommend reading them from the beginning so that you get the full story and a full picture of all the characters.

This is the story of events of what happened from the view of Rhi.
Rhi is the younger sister of Emvee and Dexter and while she is mentioned in the other books it’s in this book that we really get to know her and her story.
Rhi is small and people are always thinking she is weak however she is such a strong and determined character. Even though she gets annoyed at everyone assumption it also works in her favour when she starts to investigate the strange goings on at the school.
However what she doesn’t realise until its too late is that the secrets she plans on uncovering puts herself and her whole family in danger.

This story is full of Suspense, secrets and lies, paranormal happenings and mysteries to be solved. Will Rhi be able to solve it and protect her family or will something happen that will change the course of all their lives.

Break the Darkness is a fast paced YA/Fantasy that once you start reading there’s no putting it down until you’ve finished. I’ve read other books by this author and her style of writing and attention to detail bring the story to live along with fully developed characters that make you feel as if you are right there with them. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Rei is nosy and has been told it will get her into trouble which it didn’t until she met Megan. Rei was super excited to be working for the school newspaper and never dreamed she’d be using investigative skills. Things aren’t always as they seem. What will happen when she realizes her family may be in danger? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading many more books by this author.

Break The Darkness is book 2.5 in the YA fantasy Vigilant series. This is another part of Rei’s story. Make sure to read the books in order. This book answers some questions and brings the story together much better than the previous books.

As with the others it is fast-paced and action packed. It is a paranormal story mixed with fantasy and science fiction. Lots of emotions – heartbreak, hope, secrets, suspense, betrayal, mystery, love and sacrifice in a world full of magic and werewolves. .

Some twists and turns and still a few more mysteries left to be answered.

Mythology and mystery, danger and supernatural/paranormal beings, magic and more that I am sure that any YA fantasy lover will enjoy.

I believe Rei is my favorite in this series. She’s small but packs a punch. She uses her size to make people forget that she is powerful. She observes a lot while investigating the weird stuff going on in the new town she and her family have moved to. Once she gets herself involved on the school newspapers, she’s sticking her nose in where it may nto belong. This story is full of punch, drama, adventure, and teen angst with some paranornal thrown in. I love it. One of my favorite teen paranormal series, this can be read as a standalone. I do recommend the series read. The characters are so realistic and relatable. I love the plot, so teenager like, even with the paranormal in it. Rei is a pretty badass young woman. Well done!

I thought it was a great addition to the series, and really made me connect with Rei as well I loved the intrigue, the history that became history that was Rei I mean. The story had great character build up and suspense. Secrets were put into the open and a lot of things that I wondered about came to light! Really enjoyed this! I loved it from start to finish!

I simply just love this series. The author does such an amazing job. I very much enjoyed this installment/as well as tie in to the story! This is a high recommendation for this must read! Enjoyable novella
This is a great instalment in The Vigilant series. This is between book 2 and 3 and we get to know Rei and how she ended up working with Megan. There are events that occur that need the perspective from reading previous books in the series so it is best to read from book 1. With mystery, action, a little bit of romance and secrets uncovered, this is an exciting treat. Looking forward to see where this story goes.
