A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack #4) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Sarah Oakes

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack, #4)A Deal with Death by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great read about control. Odette is a voodoo practitioner associated with the lua spirit Baron Samedi, the god of Death. She moves into an old house in New Orleans and lives her life without living or giving into her mysterious powers. But when ghosts walk through the house and her soul mate returns, fate seems to have other ideas. Desperate to avoid fate, Odette will have to find allies and use powers to save him. Can she do it or run from fear of her powers?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Odette standing up for herself but vulnerable and afraid underneath or James determined and cocky but kind and caring underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like the fun friend Natasha or the no nonsense Noah.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the house with its bright pink walls and little windows, inviting and welcoming but still large enough for a sense of unease with empty rooms wonderfully written. Or the use of colour throughout in the small details like the purple veve scarves and the cards for a splash of colour in a harsh world around them. Or the use of the senses with the taste of rum or the smell fot he forests later on so strong its as if you’re actually there.
A wonderful example of world building with this magical society coexisting alongside humanity with their own laws and rules. A wonderful example of building upon the sequel with added fantasy elements such as ghosts and priestesses and fortune telling and the Rougarou later on.
I also loved the sense of culture this novel includes with the voodoo and its Haitain roots with tis gods and rituals and offerings, giving it an unique flavour to draw readers in and a sense of community between characters and loved the inclusion of its language and terminology which was a lovely touch. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Deal With Death is the fourth book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. You can read this as a standalone, but all of the books in this series have been stellar so you’ll probably want to read them anyway.

I have always loved a story with Voodoo components, and this one has a great foundation. I also loved the way the reincarnation aspect is woven in. This story caught my attention from the beginning and held it all the way through. The characters are vibrant and come alive on the page making you feel like you are in the story.

Murder. Romance. Spirits. Destiny. It’s a wonderfully written tale of the paranormal variety! ?

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack #4) by Carrie Pulkinen

5 out of 5 stars
A deal with death is the fourth book in the Crescent City Wolf pack written by Carrie Pulkinen is a great book that goes with a great series. I have read all four books in this series and they just get better with each book. The characters are great with quirky personalities but they needed this for their quest to solve the puzzle.
Voodoo practitioner Odette Allemand, isn’t scared of death but dying sure as hell does. And every time she meets her soul mate, her life ends in a horrific murder. Then she’s reincarnated to have it happen all over again. She is determined to survive this lifetime, so she has closed herself off to her powers and spirit
But when James Malveaux a sexy werewolf knocks on her door, he unearths emotions she thought she’d buried, now her fate is sealed with his enticing kiss. He hasn’t seen her since junior high, but the moment they reunite, his wolf wants to claim her as his mate.
Now that they have reconnected they have awakened the monster and hope it doesn’t kill them before they get a chance to kill it first.
Will James make peace with his wolf and accept Odette? Can he help Odette make peace with her inner demons and the Spirit? Or will the couple be doomed to the same gruesome ending as their countless lives before?
I highly recommend this book/series…

A Deal With Death is book four in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. I loved it just as much as I did all the other books in this series. Odette was an amazing character and I absolutely loved her ability even if it was some what dangerous. I also really loved James’ character. There was so much more to these two than I realized at the start of the novel. As with this authors other novels, there is never a dull moment. She is very descriptive with each setting in the New Orleans area and it is easy to visualize and almost immerse yourself in its culture. I love this series and really enjoyed this novel. I highly recommend it!

I give A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen, 4 stars.

Odette has decided that the best way to live her life is to have complete control over is. So she turns her back on her voodoo religion and never lets her control slip. Until she meets James. This hot werewolf makes her think things she doesn’t want. But she feels so good with him. However, she has bigger concerns. Things are happening in her town that she must help stop. Can she let go of the past and help stop this evil?

This is a great book and nice addition to the series. James and Odette are really good characters and while this fits in with the series, it is different enough to stand on its own. Besides the attraction of the two main characters, the suspense side of the story is quite interesting. I could not put this book down.

If you like paranormal romance with a suspense twist, this book is for you.

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack, #4)A Deal with Death by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Deal With Death is the fourth novel in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series by Carrie Pulkinen. This is my fourth novel by this author.

Odette Allemand is a woman who doesn’t fear death since she practices Voodoo. She also gets reincarnated after she dies whenever she meets her soulmate. Not wanting to die this time, she is sure she can beat the cycle.

James Malveaux is werewolf who hasn’t seen Odette in years but once the two meet again, his wolf wants to claim her as his mate.

Can the two change fate and have a happy life together?

This is my favorite of the series so far. The premise was different than anything I’ve read before and the romance between the two felt refreshing and different because of that.

I loved the main character’s name because it was unique and it made me think of the Swan Princess movie.

I hope there is another novel in this series soon.

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack, #4)A Deal with Death by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen is a paranormal/fantasy romance. This novel follows in the series closely with the previous books, but could be read separately. I do highly recommend that the books be read in order so that you get a full understanding in the depth this series provides and additional background on some of the characters that appear throughout the series.

In A Deal with Death spirits and shifters are the focus; the story line is high speed and exciting from beginning to end. Carrie Pulkinen had me sitting on the edge of my seat practically biting my nails as I crested page after page to see what fates were about to be unfolded next in this book. Odette and James are magnificent in this story and I loved how they were each missing something, but were drawn towards one another regardless. This author is highly talented and a great story teller!

I found myself smiling and at times actually laughing out loud. I enjoyed this fun, romantic shapeshifter story with all it’s different characters. Considering what Jack does for his clan I’m glad that his character is kind and fun loving especially when it came to Louisa. There is also an element of mystery in this story that kept me captivated. We meet a variety of characters in this book and I thought it made it that much better. The author made this book easy to read and kept me entertained. I recommend this book, and I can’t wait to read the next one.

I loved everything about this book, the original and intricate storyline, all of the detail and even how well it flowed. I was also a huge fan of the many supporting characters; they all added a little something special to the story and as a bonus they also added some humor.

Honestly, I can’t wait to read more from this author asap and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for their next paranormal read.

I haven’t been a reader of paranormal, especially shifter, romance for a very long time but I will happily admit to really enjoying Furbidden Attraction: A Cursed Romance (Raven Falls Cursed Romances Book 1) by author R. O’Leary. This book had me from the first page with the intense introduction to Jack leading up to the inevitable first meeting between him and Louisa.
The author did a very good job building the world around the den, Raven Falls, the shifters, Louisa’s backstory and Jack. The main characters were funny, intense and realistic not to mention well fleshed out and easy to get involved with. The secondary characters were a hoot! They lent a little more depth to the story and were fun to read to the point I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment of this series. If you are looking for an intense, at times funny, roller coaster of a ride then by all means pick up this book…you can thank me later!

I love paranormal books and this one was great! I really liked the story and the characters in this book, it really came together nicely. It was nice and refreshing to see the main character of Lila being obsessed with vampire romance and then bam, she is in one. That was new for me and was really intriguing to watch.

Lila and Adam are a great pairing. I feel like anyone in a situation with vampires would have a hard time figuring out who to trust and watching Lila and Adam’s relationship develop was nice. Their romance is beautiful. The secondary characters were amazing as well. They provided some comic relief every now and again.

This book was full of suspense, romance and a lot of wondering what will happen next. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal romance, and can’t wait to see more from this author.

So I love my shifter romance novels and this was a brand new take of this storyline for me.

Shifters divided into clans all from a curse long ago posed on them, finally coming together to combat a common foe. Will this hopefully lead to clean truces. We will see.

The characters in this novel are brilliantly written, and have a sense of growth from page one until the end, Lou is very quite eccentric  and handles the paranormal world quite differently to how everyone expects. However Alice is by far my favourite character and I really do hope book 2 in this series has a bit more of Alice and the Den and her story.

The chemistry between Louisa and Jack is quite phenomenal. I like how the forbidden romance is played out. I really like how the supernatural and human world are connected and how the supernaturals are hidden and blended in with the humans. I like how Louisa adapts to Jack’s world and how the drama plays out around them. I will definitely be reading more from this author and this series in the future.

I really enjoyed this book. I am new to the paranormal world so I was a little nervous to read this but the blurb caught my attention. This book is about Jack who was shot and could not shift from his dog form to his human form and ends up attached to a vet assistant Louisa. Once Jack could shift he did so while in bed with Louisa prompting him to kidnap her so she doesn’t tell his shifting secrets. What I really enjoyed in this book was the back and forth banter of the main characters and also that Louisa is not a wallflower. She has strong feelings and opinions and she lets them known. I give this book a 5/5.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I was blown away. I love a good paranormal romance but this book exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book to the Raven Falls cursed romance series and it was a perfect beginning. I could not put this book down for anything. The storyline drew me in and I wanted to know what happened. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible book.

Louisa moves to Raven Falls to start a new life. She is having trouble with her new life. Louisa can’t stand her new boss and her new apartment is gross. She is working her unbearable shift when a cute dog is brought into the vet she works for. Louisa falls in love with this dog instantly. She ends up taking this dog home with her. When she wakes up in the morning she finds a naked man and her dog is gone. Louisa fights her attacker but she ends up in his care. She is about to find out that there are more than just monsters hiding in her world. Louisa is dragged into a world that she knows nothing about and she has to trust the man that kidnapped her. Will Louisa get back home will she want to stay in this scary world?

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, suspense, and mystery. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters. Louisa had a hard childhood but she doesn’t let that define her. She wants to find a good guy that will protect her. Jack is a shifter and he has always put his clan first. He feels a deep connection to Louisa that won’t go away. The way he treats her will make you swoon. This talented author will have you at the edge of your seat until the end. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.

Furbidden Attraction: A Cursed Romance is the first book in the Raven Falls Cursed Romance series. I liked this read and shifters aren’t normally what I read. The author did an amazing job drawing me in and making me want to read more. Jack and Louisa are the main characters in the story. Louisa is a strong character even though she has been through so much but it does not stop her for standing up for herself. This book has adventure, ghosts, monsters and it will truly bring the reader into the story and make you NEED to see how it ends.

Obsessed is the first book I’ve read by this author and despite no prior knowledge, I couldn’t pass it up. I am a sucker for a good vampire story.
Overall, I did enjoy the book and will be looking forward to reading more from this author. There were ups and downs without the story for me, times that I loved the book and other times I felt like there was something just “off” for me.
Obsessed ended up being one of those books that I did read pretty quickly, not one that you let sit and “get back to”. I guess with that being said I would say there were way more good aspects than bad!
If you’re looking for a fun, vampire read that really will make you smile, I do recommend giving this a try.

Obsessed by J Collins is my first book by this author. She kept my interest throughout her story. This is a paranormal vampire story. J Collins has a new way of spinning her story about her vampires. It is a fun read when you do not see the same topic of vampires over and over. J Collins amazingly spins a great tale in a vampire world. Her character Lila has found vampire fiction interesting. She was able to get a way within her book covers until Adam, a real vampire meets up with her. Adam takes Lila into the world of vampires where everything starts to become real. Will Adam be able to protect Lila or will a dark vampire take her away?

I give Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 (Lila Casey Series) by J. Collins, 4 stars.

Lila was trying to fight her fear of heights by climbing the stairs in an office building she’s fascinated with. Before she heads back down, she has a panic attack and flees to the closest place to sit down. These aren’t her type of people, but she doesn’t care about that. There she runs into a man whom she can’t stop thinking about. She loves vampire romance and fiction books, is that why she thought she saw fangs? But this is the least of her worries. Turns out there is something even worse after her. Can Adam help her or should she just give up now?

I really enjoyed this book. Lila is a fun, quirky character who really makes this book sensational. But a book can’t rely on that alone. Adam and the secondary characters add variety to this story. The storyline itself has lots of suspense and twists and turns along the way. Lila doesn’t know who to trust or just what to do. I could not put this book down and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

If you like vampire fiction with a quirky main character, this book is for you.

Obsessed was a creative and fascinating paranormal romance novel. It has an easy storyline and easily Carrie’s the reader along. I loved Lila’s quirky personality and her habit of rambling. She was very entertaining and funny. Adam Drake began as a mysterious individual but I easily saw a different side of him as the story progressed. It was easy to notice the difference in culture of the main characters of what I expected when I first started reading. I loved that it was set in the UK and that the author brought out the typical dialogue and habits of individuals who live there. This was really a good read!

Furbidden Attraction: A Cursed Romance is the first book in the Raven Falls Cursed Romances Series by R. O’Leary. Reading this book was a huge risk for me as this is a genre I’ve never read before and I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to get into the book or enjoy it. Well, all my worrying was unfounded, I absolutely loved this book.
Louisa has moved to Raven Falls for a new start in life. She’s not liking her new life very much when things take a very unusual turn. She awakes one morning to find Jack, the adorable dog that she’s taken home from her work in a vet’s surgery, has turned into a very handsome, naked man in her bed. Needless to say she doesn’t believe this at first as how can a dog turn into a man!
Louisa is soon drawn into Jack’s world of shifters and the paranormal and has to rethink her whole outlook on life. I loved the characters of Jack and Louisa. Louisa is witty and sassy and has a smart answer for everything, whereas Jack is just so sweet and adorable, well except when he turns into a 7 foot monster!
This story is fast paced and full of suspense. As well as the growing romance between Jack and Louisa, the storyline is intriguing and had me gripped the whole way through.
I’m so glad I took the risk and read this book. I look forward to reading more from this series.

This is my first read by this author and I will say there were times I absolutely loved this book then it would move into parts that were just ok. The great parts overruled thank goodness.

I love a good vampire book, this one took me a bit to connect with, not sure what it was whether the characters or the actual story, but it picked up rather quickly and I loved the unique storyline. I definitely fell in love with the “be careful what you wish for” kind of idea and all of the vampires drew me in immediately, well almost all of them LOL

I will be interested in reading more from this series and did enjoy the flow of this story, I laughed out loud so many times and I love a book that can do that for me.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a crazy laugh out loud story. It is full of antics and things that make you go”WHA? Did she just do that?” I can see why Jack is so enamored with Louisa. The way she acts just puts a smile on my face. Her singing in the rotted out house? Such a wonderful add!! Don’t worry there are many more crazy things that happen to Louisa or Jack. Even their language to each other puts a smile on my face.

Jack is a thoughtful, kind, charming guy who happens to sprout fur. Oh I think I forgot charismatic and sexy with abs like a washboard. I was surprised at how light Jack was considering his job in the Den. I thought it would make him dark and broody. The lightness in him does help transmit his golden boy looks though. While he feels a connection to Louisa he is not…NOT her mate. The more he tells himself that doesn’t make it true. Louisa is sassy and smart and I love her whole hair issue. She seemed so easy going about the whole shifter thing. She doesn’t deny her feelings for Jack which is nice.

The secondary characters add just as much fun and laughter to this story as the main characters. I felt they deserve a mention as they are well rounded and I can’t wait to see their stories.

I was not a fan of the Epilogue simply because it gave away ending information for the next book. This is a first time author for me and I really enjoyed her writing style. Although the book did seem a bit long and at times brought in characters and dropped them..never to be seen again. Overall I loved the story and the characters and have already purchased the second in the series.

I liked that I had to take a bit of time to get to know and understand the main character Lila; she definitely matured as the story progressed.
The author brought a little bit of humour to the story which I wasn’t expecting but really enjoyed! The pace and flow of the story was really good and I found it very easy to read – the authors attention to detail was also great. I could imagine YA and paranormal romance readers really enjoying this story.
I am definitely really looking forward to reading more from this series and seeing how the characters develop even more!
