Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Carly Vogler

Life’s a Witch by Carrie Pulkinen is story number three in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This is a fun paranormal love story that follows Crimson Oliver and Mike Cortez on their action packed journey to save Crimson’s soul.

Crimson isn’t a bad person, but she’s a terrible witch. She’s always in some sort of trouble and can’t seem to get her spells to work out correctly. When her powers are at stake and she needs help, she gets in too deep. With her soul promised to the devil, can she and Mike out
smart Satan, or will she be stuck forever?

The Cross of Ciaran is new paranormal romance story by Andrea Matthews. In true Andrea style she once again incorporates her two loves history and archaeology which gives the story that little bit more richness. The story goes back and forth between the fifth century and present. We get introduced to this new world with excellent world-building and characters so there is less happening as it plays out to set the scene. I did however find it hard to like Caitlin whether this is intentional by Andrea or not remains to be seen.

Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Amanda DelFemine

Crimson may not be the best witch but she is a great person. She falls for a half demon half human that has a contract with the devil. She jokingly sells her soul to the devil and its a story of how she tries to get out of it. I absolutely loved the style of Pulkinens writing and this book really made me laugh out loud with all the crazy mishaps. Lifes a Witch is truly super entertaining and a quick listen. I did not want it to be over and I cant wait to listen on.

Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Mrs R

I am really enjoying this series. This is book 3, and although characters appear from previous books, you don’t need to have read them to enjoy this one.

Crimson is a witch with wonky magic and it just keeps getting her into trouble. Demon Mike has had his eye on Crimson for a while but hasn’t had the chance to act on it.

This romcom was just so lighthearted and easy to read, that I couldn’t help but enjoy it.

Holly Jackson is amazing at the narration, she just brings the characters to life. Using slightly different voices so you know who is talking.

Life’s A Witch Audio Book by Carrie Pulkinen is the third book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This is one so the most entertaining series that I have read and this book is no exception. Crimson is one of those characters that is so memorable and entertaining I could listen to this book just for her. She was brilliant when I was reading the book but listening to it she just came alive. I could picture her so much better and felt like you really got to feel her personality. I could so easily imagine everything from her mannerisms to try the way she spoke. For me this audio book was all about her. I am so glad that it is the same narrator for this book as it was was for the previous. She does such a great job of bringing the book to life and really makes it so easy to listen to. This is another brilliant success for one of my new favourite authors.

I enjoyed this mystery with a touch of romance. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to seeing what is next in the future. This is a well written story that kept me engaged and turning pages to the end. The characters bring the story to life through the author’s attention to details. This is a great story that will take you on an adventure in finding a missing Celt but they just may find more than what they are expecting. This is such a great story. It is fun and entertaining to read. It was easy to read and understandable. I highly recommend this book.

Third book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. OMG One paragraph in and I was hooked! I loved everything about this audiobook. Crimson Oliver the “bad” witch just can’t seem to get it together.  Things just seem to go from bad to worse for her until she meets her demon Mike, the Devil’s Advocate.

Faced with the threat of having her powers forever bound, Crimson hastily challenges the Head Witch to a battle of magic that she can’t possibly win with her current abilities. Enter Mike, the recovering Devil’s Advocate. Crimson and Mike have undeniable chemistry and are just starting to delve into their relationship when Mike accidentally makes a deal with Crimson to sell her soul to the devil.

This book has me seeking out other books by Carrie Pulkinen!  You won’t be disappointed.

An Unexpected Bonding: Book One of The Unexpected Trilogy by Lilly Rayman

This is the first book I’ve read by Rayman, but it won’t be my last. An Unexpected Bonding is a great read and you get a lot of information.

Livva is the only one who never changed into a wolf. Traveling the states to find herself she finds love instead. When a horrible accident takes her fiance it leaves her his business. The quote I chose for Livva is: “Peace once more between our races. We were never meant to be at war with each other, and now, more so than ever, is the time for peace to be declared and our friendship to begin again. There have already been two deaths today–”

Darius is one of the few vampires that can walk in the sun. When he meets Livva he finds that he is attracted to her. He doesn’t want to forget his wife who lost her battle to cancer. The quote I chose for Darius is: “What is it I can help you with, sir?”

I enjoyed listening to this audio.  The narrator’s voice made the story easy to listen too.  They brought life to the story and I could easily see the characters.   I enjoyed them, I found myself easily connecting to them. In this story Crimson’s spells always go bad. When the high priestess threatens to bind her powers, her reaction is to challenge her to a battle that she doesn’t have a chance to win. What will happen when a demon named Mike makes a deal that could change everything for Crimson?  The characters had great chemistry and I enjoyed them.  I highly recommend this audio, it is worth the listen too.

The quote I chose for Emily is: “Aunt Maureen would like you to come over this weekend, I think Sunday. She wants to have some type of group talk and would like you to be there.”

Zach is a wolf. He and his two brothers are future Alphas. When his brother, his best friend and himself find their mates he wonders what’s going on. The quote I chose for Zach is: “I haven’t seen him. He came in yesterday evening, but I didn’t get a chance to speak with him. Why?”

Delilah is running once again. This time it isn’t from the man she loves. She’s running hoping the Trackers don’t find her. Running into the arms of the man who saved her last time. The quote I chose for Delilah is: “Damn straight it didn’t. Now, may I suggest you get lost?”

Mason has never forgiven himself for being the cause of Delilah running. He catches wind that she is in danger. He hopes to get there in time to save her. The quote I chose for Mason is: “Sven’s right. You will be fine with us. Come. We can take you to a place you’ll be safe. I’m Mason, by the way.”

One of the things I love most about the holiday season is the promise of miracles and magic. I believe that Santa is more than an imaginary man that delivers toys to children, and for those two reasons alone I needed to read this story. If I am being honest, I am really torn about my final thoughts on the book. The writing was fantastic but there was something about the characters that I didn’t entirely click with. I love the premise that Mrs. Wright must save her husband and the epiphanies that come along with the task. I would recommend you give the Last Christmas a try yourself, it is short and sweet and what is there to lose? Before I wrap this up, I’ll leavd you with a quote from the novella that really stuck with me was  “Medicine is nothing more than an educated guess. They give you their best guess. And sometimes they are just plain wrong. They can’t know what’s in a patient’s heart or soul. They can’t estimate someone’s instinct for survival and will to live. That’s when miracles appear to happen, though they aren’t really miracles at all. They’re just humans instinctively responding to a threat to their life.”

The Last ChristmasThe Last Christmas by Seelie Kay

Joan Wright is a woman on the edge, on the edge of grief, loss and heartbreak, her husband David is in St Malcolm’s hospital in an induced coma and at death’s door, but she cannot bear to think about the fact that this will be his last Christmas with her, the cancer has eaten away at him until only morphine and machines are keeping him there with her. She is reminiscing with a nurse about how in love she has been with David, from the age of sixteen when they met until now and that love has only grown stronger, she says that they have celebrated the good and weathered the bad, as well as having three children together and that she is angry because they are not dying together and that it is a cruel thing to be in her situation, the nurse tells her to have faith and that Christmas miracles do happen when there is hope and love in the mix and that her job in the ICU has proven that many times over. As she thinks about what the nurse said, she slips around the wires and machines keeping him alive and into bed with David, there she has a dream that he is alive and well and wanting his Christmas miracle, he hasn’t finished what he needs to do and he hasn’t finished loving her, both emotionally and physically, when she is woken up by the doctor who wants to examine David, but adds that his heart was beating the strongest it has been while she was sleeping next to him, this is too much for Joan to hear and makes excuses for it and blames the cancer for giving her false hope, but he says the same thing as the nurse did earlier that David isn’t the type for giving up and when there is hope and love, that miracles can indeed happen.

As Joan is walking in the open air and surrounded by Christmas spirit, carollers and Santa’s, when she is suddenly being spoken to by someone and it is none other than Santa himself, a centuries old spirit who works with God to dispense advice and bring the Christmas spirit and love to those who need it, although she doesn’t believe it at first, when he invites her to sit down and talk to her, he reveals that it is not David’s time to die yet and even if it was, Heaven is full, St Peter is at his wit’s and and that there is a 5 year waiting list to get in, so unless she wants David to be stuck in a 5 year queue, she has to keep him alive. Joan finds it unbelievable that she is expected to keep him alive when that there isn’t even anything more that the medical staff can do, so he tells her that she needs to give him a reason to live, a reason to keep going as his work is not yet done and that he needs to know that she is on his side.

When she returns home and sees all their memories together and starts to remember them all, she knows what she has to do, she needs to remind David of all that they have shared together and what he has to live for, she needs to get her kids, their grandkids, their friends and even their church on their side and fight for his survival, so she arranges a family meeting and they devise a plan of action, but can Team Wright get their Christmas miracle and love save the day, or will everything fall through in the end? A gripping read which enthralls you as a reader right up to the end.

The Last Christmas by Seelie Kay was a good read. It was very quick, and easy to read as well. It was a very heartfelt novel, full of emotion and some laughter. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. However, while I know this was completely fiction, it felt so unrealistic to me. I also got thrown off a bit from the novel by the sex stuff mentioned. To me, that took away from David’s condition. Other than those two things to me, I loved this novel. It was well written and very fast paced. And I loved the holiday miracle aspect as well. I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Kay is a great author and to see a short story have so much meaning is amazing. This story goes along with the Holidays.

Joan is mourning the loss of her husband even with him not dead. She isn’t sure he’ll live, but when Santa visits her things change. The quote I chose for Joan is: “I do love him. He knows that. I have been with him every step of the way.”

David is dying and he isn’t quite ready to go. When his old friend Santa jumps in to help him out. Santa gets his wife to see what is really going on. The quote I chose for David is: “Oh, for crying out loud. Would you stop all babbling, you monkeys. I need to talk to your mother. Pipe down. We don’t have a minute to waste.”

Great holiday read, also very uplifting and hopeful. I really enjoyed the little bit of Christmas magic thrown in with the ultimate healer being God. It was sweet how Santa was playing an angel as to help this family through some hard times. Without giving anything away, there were plenty of sweet spots, scandalous moments, funny comments and hope throughout the family. With Joan and her 3 kids gathering together to fight for David’s survival and to beat his cancer is inspiring. A nice short and sweet story, it really gets you thinking and contemplating your own life.
