A continuation in the series, this book is amazing as always. This story brings in a little girl who can see ghosts like Scott. A ghost from Scott’s past shows up throwing everything for a loop. Scott and Zelda’s relationship is strained, and everybody tries to help in their own way. If you like a book about a little girl who helps her parents through hard times, a couple who fights to stay together, and holds an amazing supernatural element, read this book. It is worth it!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Talking to dead people’s spirits is one thing, but having to deal with the constant requests and sad stories could be very depressing. This experience could even drive one to go insane or kill one’s self. Scott is just starting to get used to his gift, as much as a person can, when he finds the spirit of a girl he can’t ignore. He calls her Zelda, because she can’t remember anything about herself from when she was alive. He wants to help her find out the truth so she can move on. But can you have feelings for someone who you are helping move on? Will her past bring up too many bad memories? This book is well written and a great start to a series that will be a new experience for everyone to read.

Every once in awhile, the glimpse of a dance floor and sounds of the past would slip through Tess’s fingertips as she stocked the shelves of her very own boutique, Divine Vintage with beautiful items from times gone by.
Until she met Trey, Ester and their scandalous family tree, Tess didn’t think too much of her connection to vintage garments.. a chance opportunity to model century old family heirlooms and Tess found herself tredding carefully between the present and past, sometimes uncertain if the past had more sway on her future than she liked.
As Tess takes step after step closer to owning her unique power, she hopes she can right the wrongs of the past and believe in the connection she feels to Trey
This is a fun unique read that seemingly has two story lines and we hope desperately for a happily ever after and a solution to the intricate weaving whodunit!

Lingering Spirits (Soul Connection, #4)Lingering Spirits by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot say enough good things about this series or this author. She is definitely going to the top of my list and definitely within the top ten series that I have ever read, probably even top 5.

Hope can connect telepathically to other people, in order to help them work through and solve their dilemma. Once she helps them she always disconnects, afterall they do not need her interference more than necessary. That is until she connects with Russ and honestly has no idea why they are connected. Add to that the fact that she can sense everything around him and see through his eyes this journey has taken her to places she has never been before. Meanwhile, Russ cannot get her voice out of his head, though she does keep him on the straight and narrow and has saved his life in the past. So when he tries to help her but she doesn’t know much he is frustrated to no end. After all, how can he help someone with so little information whom he has never met before? Eventually they build a strong connection and Russ realizes that he might be the one that needs to help hope he vows to do everything in his power to help her out. Can Russ figure out how to help Hope in time so they can finally meet? This was a doozy of a novel, beautifully written. A new take on the paranormal but definitely loved seeing the characters from previous books intertwined in this story. This is one journey I didn’t want to end and now must wait with bated breath to see if more books are forthcoming in this series.

In this book we are back to Scott and Zelda’s story that we started in book one. This author really knows how to pack a punchin the emotional turmoil department. If you haven’t read the first two books you definitely should as they provide additional insight into the characters and their actions.

Zelda finds herself in a horrible car accident, which causes her to lose her and Scott’s baby. As if that weren’t enough Scott must make the decision that will change the course of their lives, in order to save his wife, by allowing the doctors to give her a hysterectomy. This takes the one thing that Scott and Zelda had been working toward in their marriage. Each one blames themselves for what happened, and even though trying to overcome this horrific accident Scott is still being besieged by ghosts who want his help to move on. That is when a ghost from Scott’s past enters the story with a secret that may forever change the couple’s lives. When Scott doesn’t immediately help they go to his daughter, the only other person with the ability to see them. Can Scott and Zelda move through their own trauma to handle the secret from the past? Or is this the final straw that breaks them so they are unrepairable? This is an emotional rollercoaster from the get go and the author does a fantastic job of tackling the difficult topics of infant loss and mental health. I am looking forward to reading what comes next and continuing this journey with this author. I highly recommend not only this book but this series as it has to be one of the best I have ever read!

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sleeping Angel is the second book in the series, the author once again is able to tie up all the mystery, drama, emotion, and love into a wonderful read. From the first book we still have Scott who after being able to see ghosts must help his ex-girlfriend figure out what happened to her.

Logan, your typical 24 year old, who has been through more grief in his short lifespan than most do for their entire lives. His sister was murdered, his girlfriend cheated on him and he has blindly turned to alcohol to feel something. Unfortunately that takes his life down a dangerous spiral as he wakes up in the hospital with no memories of what he’s done but with everyone blaming him for killing Angel. Angel just so happens to be the person Logan blames for the death of his sister, after all she seemed too caught up in herself to catch what was going on. However, Angel isn’t quite dead, at least her soul isn’t. She discovers she is now living in someone else’s body with no recollection or idea of how that happened. Turning to Scott, her ex-boyfriend, for help to discover why this happened and what to do next. Is Scott enough to help her? Can everyone figure out the true story so they can retain some semblance of their lives and move through the guilt of the past? Or has too much damage been done that none of them will make it out unscathed? If you haven’t read the first book you definitely should as it ties the characters together more easily into the storyline! This was another knock out of the park by Ms. Barrett and I look forward to the journey her other books will take me down!

Peaceful Slumber (Soul Connection Book 1) by Nikki Lynn Barrett – Review by Vanessa Watts

Peaceful Slumber (Soul Connection, #1)Peaceful Slumber by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love paranormal stories and this one intrigued me because it seems like the ghost whisperer series from tv. This book was a fairly quick read for me because I simply could not turn the pages fast enough. Just wanting to get to the end to solve the mystery.

Scott, our main male character, has at one point experienced death. Only for a few short moments but it was enough to alter his life whether for good or bad that is what he needs to determine. Scott comes across Zelda, our female ghost, who doesn’t remember anything about how she lived or how she died. She is simply in a blood stained wedding dress with only one person that can see her. Together, they attempt to figure out what happened to Zelda and get incredibly close in the process. How do you love someone who is already dead? This story has mystery, intrigue, and romance that will make you keep reading to the very end. Can you solve what happened to Zelda before Scott can help her? This is simply an amazing book that I am going to recommend to everyone I meet!

This is another great book in this wonderful series. I keep getting more and more captured and invested in these characters with each book I read. It is my suggestion that you read the previous books first for a better understanding of some of the characters and for a better experience. This book had me hooked from the start. This author does an exceptional job writing with such detail that you feel right along with the characters. Hope and Russ go through so much in this story, I was on the edge of my seat turning the pages needing to know what was going to happen next. There is romance, suspense, emotional moments, twists and turns and so much more in this book. I can’t wait to read what comes next. I highly recommend this book.

Peaceful Slumber is a very good read. I was not prepared to enjoy Scott and Zelda’s story as much as I did. It’s so lovely yet so tragic. A good mystery/suspense plot with intriguing characters. I have to say if I were Scott I would’ve kept up the plan to not show that I could see the ghosts but he did we would not have had such a lovely story. Off to read the next in the series!

Hope is a young woman with an extraordinary ability, she can connect with people, mind to mind and help them with their problems, albeit from a distance and normally she can disconnect as soon as she has done this, but this time it is different. Russ is a young man with a lot of responsibilities, he helps his friends and family out whenever he can, even if it is to his own detriment, that is until one day he starts to hear a mysterious voice in his head and he thinks that something is seriously wrong.

As Hope and Russ begin to talk over this telepathic connection, they try to work out what has brought this on, but as the connection continues, Hope realises that this connection is unlike any other and she has had many, in this case she can see through Russ’s eyes and hear his thoughts, much to his annoyance, but the reason behind this situation is still out of reach.

A few months in and Hope has helped to save his life a couple of times and they both acknowledge that they are feeling stronger for each other than they should, but neither of them want to end their connection. One day, Hope makes the decision to tell Russ some things about her past, that she is on the run and that she can never be safe, she can never let her loved ones she is alive, if she does, then a dark figure from her past will return and use her abilities like they have done before. Russ cannot believe what he is hearing, but he promises to help her in any way he can, as soon as he knows how to anyway.

Suddenly, the reason for their connection becomes clear and with this clarity brings truth, but will the truth put both Hope and Russ in danger and will they be able to overcome it and help each other? This is a paranormal romance with a twist and an unconventional timeline that will keep you hooked all the way through, as the mystery surrounding Hope and Russ unravels.

Human against vampire. The hunter against the hunted.

I kill bloodsuckers for a living.

The job should be simple—capture the target and collect the money. But when I draw my enemy out in the open, I’m blindsided by his mesmerizing green eyes and snarky wit. Sam Mason is the type of vampire my mom warned me about—the kind who will seduce you with his easy smile and arrogant charm.

Yet, I know better.

The Vampire Navy SEAL oozes mayhem and sex appeal. Sam’s deadly swagger puts me on edge and sets my nerves on fire. If I mess with him, he’ll annihilate me in a second. That thrills and terrifies me at the same time.

A million red flags are telling me to run. But my sisters lives are in jeopardy, and the only way to save them is to grovel for Sam’s help.

Is it possible to push the flames to the back burner and trust an enemy who can take anything he wants?

The Hunted is an enemies-to-lovers, paranormal, military romance and the first book in the new Vampire Navy SEAL spin-off series. Layla and Sam’s story is a slow burn romance with a feisty heroine, snarky banter, action, suspense, off-the-charts steamy times, and ends on a cliffhanger.

This is a book that is a little out of my comfort zone due to being a little darker than my usual vampire reads. I did find this story engaging. I am a sucker for vampires and star-crossed lovers which is what drew me to choose this book. The characters were very interesting as was the plot. I love new spins on vampire lore. I definitely look forward to the next installment.

I haven’t read the first three books in this series. I do not feel that it interfered with my enjoyment/engagement. I really thought the telepathic communication was an interesting aspect of this romance. I cannot imagine the frustration Russ felt hearing a voice in his head. I found the characters easy to connect with. This was a very original, different read for me.

Lost Soul (War of Destiny # 1)Lost Soul by Theresa Van Spankeren

Julia is the eldest daughter of a wealthy family in the 16th century. Her life should be simple but she is made to grow up quickly when she is married off at 15 to a man she doesn’t know, instead of the boy she loves. Life doesn’t get any easier when her husband begins beating her for various infractions. Things go from bad to worse, creating an unbearable life for Julia. Enter Samuel, a complete stranger who shows up and offers to take her away from her current life. The catch, he is a vampire.

I enjoyed the writing style of this book. I was able to connect with the characters and find myself embroiled in the story line. I think the backstory about vampires and human relations could have been written about a bit more in depth just to give the reader more backstory.

I look forward to book 2!

I really have enjoyed reading this series from the beginning, and I would recommend that you do so as well for the fullest enjoyment of the books. This one really delves right in and takes us on a journey more into the psychic side of things and I just loved every moment of it. I really enjoy how these novels don’t get too odd or overwhelmed with the paranormal side of things and things flow so well that they are believable and realistic like they should be. This makes them so much more enjoyable and relatable for a reader like myself who dabbles in the occult and believes in this type of things. I really enjoyed this one and felt a strong connection to the characters. I look forward to seeing what we will get next!

This was a unique mystery that spans two centuries. I liked that the storyline connected the two time periods [I won’t go into detail so I don’t spoil anything – you’ll just have to read it!] in a different way. Tess is a spunky character with a special ability and uses her passion for old fashions to open a special vintage clothing store in a small town. The visions she sees through the material tell the story of the people who wore them, helping her to solve a mystery of a long-disputed murder-suicide. Tension and romance round out the story and make it an enjoyable read!

I had many “laugh out loud moments throughout the book. The story flowed and the characters are fun and fully developed and I just loved them . I’ve read every book this author has written and this one just may be my favorite yet. This is a Paranormal story with a bit of Romance and its got a great mix of magic, drama , humor and romance. How will one Gumball change ones life? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next . I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

My imagination went crazy with this book! Being a novella there was soo many things encompassed in the story to bring it to life. The author did a great job in making this story hilarious, quirky, romantic, dramatic, and everything needed to take a story outside the box. The characters fit perfectly together and in the story giving it a larger than life effect.

Lingering Spirits is the 4th book of the Soul Connection series. I read this as a stand alone but I would advise reading the other 3 books first. Mainly because it’s just that good but also it will give you a better understanding of the other characters. This story is an amazing read! It has romance, mystery, suspense, and paranormal. Hope is such a unique young woman with special abilities and a traumatizing past. She is just trying to survive and then “meets” Russ. Russ is such a sweetheart and he cares about his loved ones and will do anything for them. He’s just a normal guy trying to help out. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat guessing what’s next

Lingering Spirits is the 4th book in the Soul Connection series. It shouldn’t be read alone, as you likely wont understand it. While this book focus’s on new characters Hope and Russ, the groundwork has been laid in the previous 3 books. The characters all build upon each other and are very close friends/family that work together. Each of them have their own past that has lead them to where they are today, which is not a simple explaination. This is a very interesting story, unlike anything I have read before. It is filled with paranormal, including talking to ghosts, having premenitions, telepathy abilities, out of body experiences, and more. I was really into this book, even more than the others. I stayed up far too late to finish it, but it was so worth it. I can’t wait until the next book, as the groundwork was already laid for it. I was left disappointed that we didn’t get to know what it was leading to, but at the same time, I look forward to the next book. The characters are all ah-mazing. Hope is a voice inside Russ’s head for months before they actually meet. He thinks he is going crazy, and doesn’t understand. But, based on his friends and their abilities, he keeps an open mind. This book will give you all the feels!

Russ has a voice in his head that doesn’t belong there. Hope has telepathy as well as premonitions. She just can’t figure out why she is connected to Russ. She has saved his life several times but when something major goes down, the two must work together to figure out what is going on.
Opinion
I’m a fan of this series. It takes on a different look at paranormal activities. The author definitely has an imaginative mind to be able to twist paranormal activities the way she does. This book is no different with Hope and what she can do for Russ. I think, personally, that telepathy would be an interesting ability to have so this book was intriguing to me.
If you are interested in this book, it can be read alone but makes better sense if you go back and read first three books before reading this one.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was so intriguing and imaginative in a way that fascinated me from the first page. Being from South Louisiana, the lore of old mansions and homes has always been a love of mine. Tess loves adventure and used everything she had to open a shop where she sells vintage clothes. While modeling some of her clothes, Tess has visions of the original owner and her murder. When she meets Trey, she discovers he is a descendant of the accused murderer who wants nothing more than to clear his family’s name. Although he is skeptical, Trey agrees to join Tess in trying to use the visions and an old diary to discover the truth behind the murder.

I loved the way this book was written! The transitions between Tess’ world and the memories transitioned beautifully and were so easy to follow. Tess is spunky and up for anything, which has her diving right into the visions. Trey is her opposite and weary, but his pull to Tess has him agreeing to help her. Their connection is enthralling and kept me turning page after page! I loved joining them on the journey to discover the real story behind the murder connected to Tess’ magical dress.
