The Ghastly GumballThe Ghastly Gumball by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Ghastly Gumball is a fun, eccentric read. I had enjoyed this author’s books before, which did not disappoint. It is a short, exciting read delving into an imaginative mind. I don’t want to give away anything from the plot, but you have to meet Clyde, the octopus. The characters are entertaining, and the story is fast-paced. I enjoyed this bit of laughter, magic, and romance. I can’t wait to read this author’s next book.

This was such a great read! I’ve never read anything from this author, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but had high hopes because of the synopsis. I was not disappointed! Lock is hilarious, from his perspective and mental voice to how he deals with his new reality, I loved him. The magic in the book is so wonderfully introduced and fantastical that, for a little while, I was utterly speechless. This story took me on an unexpected kind of adventure that kept me transfixed and allowed my imagination to run wild. I loved the pace of everything, though the book was short, it felt just right.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. I have enjoyed this author’s books from the first one I picked up from her. This is the third book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous two books to help your enjoyment of this series. This is a well written story that pulled me in from the beginning. This author did a great job of details to make the story realistic. This is a paranormal story about Brandon and Macy. Brandon finding a life mate the night before he is shipped out wasn’t part of his plan. Now he is faced with finding Macy and making her his life mate. Macy does her best to be a good person. She has one passionate night with a stranger but the problem is she cant forget him and that changes things for her. Now she feels something is missing and she is about to find out what. I enjoyed their chemistry and growth throughout the story. They are strong, creative, connectable characters that truly made the story for me. I found this story to be fast paced and engaging. This is a hard to put down story that I highly recommend.

Divine Vintage by Sandra L. Young – Review by Darla Yocom

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book has a bit of everything – drama, mystery, suspense, romance, social justice, ghosts, visions, and breathtaking imagery.

The story begins by the introduction of the characters, Phoebe and Edward.  This young couple is constantly surrounded by dramatic events, most brought on by themselves. While the opening includes only a brief introduction of these two, you only receive tidbits of information throughout the book regarding the pair, which adequately builds up the suspense as you try to piece together their lives.

The author also introduces you to the main characters, Tess and Trey.  Their instant connection is electric and reflects a heavy hand of fate. I found myself rooting for them to push past the “getting to know you faze” and decide if they felt any sparks.

Both couples are captivated with each other but drama stirs the pot yet helps expand the suspense and drama throughout the story.

You can immediately conclude that the author has an unbelievable love for vintage fashion.  When the lead character, Tess begins the story with the opening of her new vintage boutique, Divine Vintage, you are immediately transferred into masterful descriptions of what can only be described as classic exquisite pieces that told a story of the time in which they were created.  She describes the many facets of the timeless pieces decorated with beads, sequins, and delicate lace. She also paints a magnificent picture of show-stopping sweaters, frame fitting dresses, flowing fabrics, dazzling statement pieces, sparkling jewelry, chiffon layers, and gorgeous gowns from all eras.

I think the reader will enjoy this book and perhaps peak their interest in vintage fashion. I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

This is a one-of-a-kind book when it comes to uniqueness and with this being the debut novel by Sandra Young, I’m sure there is more greatness to come!

I really loved how the story of Tess and Trey in modern time became entangled with the lives of Edward and Phoebe from family history. Tess’s love of vintage clothing got her an invitation to model in a show with the ever hunky architect, Trey. While Trey isn’t as impressed with vintage clothing, he quickly finds himself falling in love with Tess….or is it Phoebe?

There are several twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat during this sweet love story of time gone by. I look forward to more books from this new author!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lost Soul (War of Destiny Book 1) by Theresa Van Spankeren. This is such a good series. I can’t wait for the next book. Once I started reading I didn’t want to put it down. I also felt like I was swept back in the time period of this book. Its the story of Julia who at 15is forced into an abusive, horrible marriage. She has fallen in love with her best friend Adam but her father thinks that Adam is beneath them so he makes her marry Gregory. Once married she is abused in every way possible, mentally and especially physically. She is finally offered a solution but it entails her becoming a vampire and fighting against the king. Can she withstand this solution? This is a great paranormal, historical, romantic read. Just be prepared to finish when you start. I was turning pages late in the night.

It Just Comes Natural (Powder River Pack Book 3) by Brooke May – Review by Amy Brennan

It Just Comes NaturalIt Just Comes Natural by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I hadn’t read anything by this author until I picked this up, and I’m glad that I did. It was what one would want from a paranormal romance novel. It had a little bit of the werewolf aspect right from the get-go, letting us into the world that Macy has grown up in, and feeling for our female lead right from the first page. The internal struggle of wanting to do what’s right for the family, but wanting to do what’s right by her, she is lead out of the state by her best friend for a wild night. You know you’re in for a treat when you meet Brandon, the masculine hero of our love story, that has his own inner turmoil, he’s a lean, mean, werewolf machine that I would just love to get my hands on, lucky Macy!

As this is the third installment in the Powder River Pack series, I have yet to really get to know the others in their pack, but the author does a great job at giving you a little insight into everyone that you need to know as the story goes on, which is really nice! The world building continues, I imagine, from the previous installments, which let me really get into the story. Not only that, but there are peaks and valleys that kept me interested throughout the novel. Overall, I loved the way that this author brought Macy and Brandon’s love story together, their struggles individually and as a family, and reiterating the fact that having a strong support system can make all the difference in the world, no matter what you’re going through. Excuse me, while I go read the first two, this author clearly knows what she’s doing!

Every article of clothing has a story, though many of us will never know the truth in the threads. For Tess, however, she begins to experience the history of a dress and the original owner’s final moments. Those feelings become amplified from the first moment she lays eyes on Trey. Will they be able to uncover the century-old mystery? Is what they’re experiencing truly their feelings or just a shadow of ghostly desires?

Author Sandra L. Young weaves a fantastic tale of romance and mystery among the threads of history and murder. From the get-go, I was drawn into the balance among the various characters: Tess’ whimsical but fiercely independent nature contrasted with Trey’s calculated and calm demeanor. The varying levels of paranormal belief, how their backgrounds play a part in their present interactions, and how they develop as individuals and together all build an intriguing tale. It was a delightful addition for me as a seamstress and lover of vintage clothing to have this story be so strongly tied to specific period pieces.

For everything I liked about this book, minor stumbling blocks brought the overall rating down. For example, occasionally the author would take a clear stance on a particular “hot topic” (eg. homelessness). While I did appreciate the tie-in to the overall story, the initial appearance was abrupt and felt out of place.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romantic tale and those who want a first read into a book regarding ghostly encounters.

The Ghastly Gumball is a fun paranormal romance. It’s a quick read – novella-length with short chapters – so great for a cosy afternoon or night in.
I’ve enjoyed this author’s work before, drawn by the diverse LGBT+ representation. The Ghastly Gumball again features multiple same-sex relationships which is fantastic!
I like that in this book we get a character who is totally clueless to the magic in the world around him who is suddenly dragged into the complicated and amazing world of witches and daemons and shifters. It’s messy and confusing for Lockwood but he figures things out, eventually, with a lot of help.
There’s plenty of tentacles in this, if you’re into tentacles. And I have to say an octopus daemon isn’t something I’d ever considered before, and Clyde is a great character!
This book gets five stars from me! If you’ve enjoyed other books by this author, such as the Life Is Hell series, you’ll love this! And if not, this is a great place to start!

This really is a fantastic series that juat jeeps on getting better. This book has to be my favourite one of the series so far, although I’m sure I’ve said that before! I was instantly hooked on this book from the moment I started reading. I loved the unconventional connection between the two main characters. I was completely bought into their story.
The overall story had a great flow to it. It was well developed and a brilliant story to read.

This book was an interesting read. I typically don’t like more than one perspective or narration, but this author pulled it off. It does reflect a lot on past books, which I haven’t read yet but have so I can, so I definitely think it should be read in order as the series progresses. I like the characters. I also like that even though it’s a paranormal romance, it’s heavier on the paranormal and the romance is there and beautiful but not unrealistically over the top…

Seriously this author is one of my all time favorites. She always manages to pull me in right from the start, I become so captivated by her storylines that I end up reading them all in one sitting because I just can’t bring myself to stop reading.

This is the fourth book in the Soul Connection series, a series that I highly recommend reading from start to finish. Though I do think these books can be read as standalones I think it would be best to start from the beginning to get the full picture.

Just like the previous books of the series, I was taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions, kept completely on my toes wondering how everything was going to play out, and falling so in love with the main characters and their amazing connection.

Honestly I will always recommend this series to anyone looking for a one of a kind read!

As this is the third book in this series, I suggest reading the other two first, so you get to know the Pack and their world and the wonderful characters you will grow to love. I think this maybe my favourite book by Brooke to date. I love paranormal stories and Brooke does paranormal so well. This book had everything with shifters, action, and drama, lust, and love and so much more.
Brandon was saying goodbye to the only life he had known and was happy with his decision. That is until fate stepped in and gave him the one thing he could not keep. Now he is done waiting and wants what is his.
Macy gave in and had one explosive night to remember only to lose it all. She has forged ahead and created a good life only to find the past catching up to her.

This book seriously has everything to hold my attention. It is very easy-to-read. I can take the romance genre or leave it, but this author’s style of mixing in the paranormal hooked me. The characters of Hope and Russ are so enthralling and their connection so intriguing that I fell right into the story with no problem. This is the fourth book in the series, so I recommend reading the previous books, but I would also recommend any of them on their own. I love the author’s writing style and give this book 5 stars!

This is such a great, emotional paranormal romance. This story had me enthralled from the very first page. There is romance, the paranormal, and it also tackles the very real issue of abusive relationships and the toll that they take on a person. Julia finds herself in an abusive situation and struggles to make her way out of it. She will have to give up certain things for the chance to gain so much more along with a real chance at happiness. This book has me eager to read the next in this series.

Hope is in such a terrifying situation and Russ is the first real connection she’s had in such a long time that she really wants and enjoys. He isn’t just work for her and he feels that special connection that he was craving in his loneliness too. There is so much danger and action in this book that I was on the edge of my seat the whole time waiting to see what would happen next. The budding romance between Russ and Hope absolutely made me swoon and the ending was so beautiful. This is one book that you definitely won’t want to miss.

Lingering Spirits is the fourth book in the Soul Connection Series by Nikki Lynn Barrett. As I have mentioned before, I have read all the previous books in the series and loved everyone. So, I was quite excited to dive into this fourth captivating instalment.
Having met Russ previously, I was quite intrigued to read his story, and as expected, Nikki Lynn Barrett kept me engrossed the whole way through. It did have a few unexpected elements, which gave the story a little extra intrigue and interest. I loved the telepathy element of the story too- that was really well done, and very believable. I loved Russ, and Hope is a really wonderful character too.
I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Nikki Lynn Barrett!

Tess has decided to open a vintage clothing store in Michigan City, IN. While prepping for her opening, Esther Deleon and family member Trey Dunmore come in with fliers about a Special Tea and Style show celebrating the anniversary of Carver House. Not willing to pass up the opportunity for model the trousseau gown, knowing it may help built her business since all the clothes in the show would be vintage. During the show, Tess is accompanied by Trey. Tess experiences flashes of history while wearing the dress of Phoebe Carter who was murdered one hundred years ago. These flashes and glimpses of history have Tess investigating Phoebe’s murder -was her husband really who committed the crime as everyone believes? Trey helps Tess hoping to possibly clear the stain on the family name. As the two work together they develop feelings for the other, something neither is looking for. But, are the feelings really that of Tess and Trey? Or are they feelings that are lingering from the past flashes that are experienced?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Murder, mystery, love, and a bit of paranormal whats not to love. Young did an amazing job with her character development and relations. She does a great job of painting a picture that is easy to imagine. I can not wait to see what Young comes up with next. Worth the read!

This was a really good read! This wasn’t my favorite of this series though, because I am extremely biased to the first book and I honestly don’t think it can be topped! This installment had everything I love in the rest of the series, like romance, thrills, paranormal shenanigans and a bit of mystery. This was a great addition to the series and I did enjoy reading it. This book was enthralling and a joy to read. I just find the first book really hard to top. This can be read as a standalone, but you see some recurring characters from past books that make it more enjoyable when you read from the first. I’m glad I got to go on this journey with these books, they were all awesome!

Divine Vintage has a little bit of everything wrapped into one. There is a love story and a mystery taking place in this interesting story. A vintage store owner, Tess, finds herself drawn to Trey after having visions of an event from a century before that were ignited by touching the vintage clothing of Treys family. A murder suicide was the official story, but is that really what happened? They dive into these visions together to find out what actually happened all those years ago. This story is different from anything I have read and I would recommend to any who love a good mystery!

Yet again another amazing book by our favorite author. While this is the fourth installment in the series, it could be read as a standalone. However, I personally recommend that you read the entire series because the characters are amazing, the plot is fantastic, and the author knows just how to keep you interested enough to keep furiously flipping through the pages. Her writing style though is so unique and beautiful that I have fallen in love with ever book of hers that I have read. So if your looking for a good book this weekend I highly recommend this one.

Hope has a telepathic gift. She connects with people who need her help. Once situation is resolved, she disconnects. However, her newest link is different The first is that she can hear everything going on around him…not just his thoughts. The second is that she can see the world through his eyes…which is a first for her.

Russ is hearing a woman’s voice in his head…and he’s not sure if he’s going crazy or if it’s his conscience. When she informs him that there is a reason for their connection, but she doesn’t know what it is, he is eager for her to just disappear. However, as time passes, they start to form a bond. And, when they figure out their connection, he is willing to do whatever he can to help so he can meet this woman that he can’t get out of his head (literally…she’s always there!).

Once the reasoning for their connection comes to light, the story really takes off and never stops until the end. Secrets becomes truths and it is a doozy! I enjoyed Hope and Russ’ characters. I also enjoyed seeing characters from previous books and the roles that they played. When I got to the last page, I kept hoping there was more because I was so invested in these characters. Another great story in the series!!
