The Ghastly Gumball by Naomi Valkyrie – Review by Rosanna Ingram

The Ghastly GumballThe Ghastly Gumball by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Lockwood needs something to keep him awake after a long day at work, the impulsive decision to get a gumball will change his life forever. From not feeling well, to a new eye and hair color, to being able to manifest objects that he is thinking about….Lockwood has no idea what is going on or how to control it. He quickly learns that there is a whole other world of supernatural creatures that exist…and that someone close to him has been hiding things from him for years. As the truth comes out, Lockwood must figure out how to deal with these changes…which requires him to make a decision that will change not only his life, but the future of an entire species.

This book was. a quick read…and I did not put it down until I got to the last page. There was so much going on in so few pages. I found myself enjoying all of the secondary characters and hoping everything turned out okay for Lockwood. Overall, an enjoyable story that is nothing like I’ve read before!

This was a first time author for me, but this book was a powerful read for me, and one I could not simply get enough from. I loved the lay out of the story, the characters, the plot twists and turns, and was simply on the edge of my seat swept away in all things that happened through out this delightful book!

I loved the fantasy and paranormal mix that crafted this story. It was different, but certainly in a good way. It made me think, at what dues would we pay to have a life we want? That was something the character Julia was faced with. Basically live the truest form of her life at a cost, or lost it all to something that was no even close to what she would define as happy. I loved the plot twists that developed after her decision. key the thoughts of all magic come with a price, and this story made that to be true. The story was very visual for the reader as well, very easy to get lost into the details and envision you are in the world in which the book takes place. The book was amazing, and so was this author! I can not wait for the next in the series, I need more, kind of right now sort of thing! Amazing read!

Amazing and really good read. It was a book I could not put down. This author is a must read as well. I will very much enjoy reading more by them. I can not wait for the next in the series, as I have said. The book was a powerful read that developed oh so well! Perfect read! Highly recommend!

What a great book! From the first page, I was totally engaged, enthralled, captivated…historical mystery, paranormal visions, and romance made for a wonderful combination that I couldn’t put down. Looking forward to reading more by this author!

Tess Burton has risked her inheritance for the adventure of opening her own beautiful clothing boutique, which she names Divine Vintage. Since she is risking it all, she does her own modeling, marketing and sales, which leads to her meeting Trey Dunmore. While modeling an Edwardian era gown, she is struck by a vision that leads her to explore the past. While Trey isn’t interested in visions, he does want to right the wrongs that led to his family having a well known legacy. As they investigate together, they are drawn together in more ways than one. Will Tess and Trey solve the mystery? Will they continue to foster their intimacy? Will the darker legacy of Trey’s family be reversed? This book is so well written, you will want to keep reading “one more chapter” to find out.

On the way to his mom and dad’s house late one night Lockwood King decides to stop at a corner gas station. Tired and not wanting to have caffeine because it’s so late he instead chooses a gumball. He finds it odd that the gumball is black because he’s never seen one before. He tries it anyhow and wishes that he hadn’t because he can’t believe how ghastly and disgusting the thing tastes. It leaves a horrendous taste in his mouth even after he spits it out. Lockwood thinks nothing more of it until he wakes up the next day and discovers some strange things. Little does Lockwood know that this one gumball will change his entire life.

Suddenly there’s something that he realizes is a little bit different about him. His eyes are changing color. His hair is turning color. Things just get weirder and weirder as suddenly before him appears a cigar smoking octopus named Clyde. Then Lockwood himself starts growing tentacles. What on Earth is going on?! He realizes that there are outside forces at work, and it must be some sort of magic. With the help of his best friend, he starts delving into the mystery of what is happening to him.

This book was an interesting read filled with magic, laughs, wackiness and some truly bizarre things. I sat down and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. It was just such an intriguing read that I had to sit and find out what was going to happen next in this wacky world of this poor guy named Lockwood. It was an amazing, wacky, fun, and creative book by a fantastic author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This author has definately become a favourite of mine. Every book is a unique paranormal romance with twists and turns. The author really brings the characters to life and the reader can’t help but fall in love with them.

In this story Lockwood decides he’s going to buy a gumball to keep him awake for his drive home. What he doesn’t realise is that one decision will change his life forever.
Now Lockwood is cursed and while he is dealing with unstable magic, tentacles appearing out of nowhere and his life being turned upside down he also finds love in the form of Rex.
Lockwood and Rex seem perfect for each other but there is one problem in their way. Rex is promised to the king of the eels.
Can Lockwood and Rex overcome the differences and be together. Can Lockwood forgive all the secrets and learn to embrace his new life or will the something still be plotting against Lockwood and Rex having a happy ever after?

This is such a sweet, hilarious romance. I really enjoyed this book because there are so many great elements to it. It’s lighthearted and sweet while also being hilarious. The characters are so likeable and this story pulled me right in from the very beginning. I laughed out loud so many times while I reading this. Lockwood and Rex are absolutely adorable together and Brix is so much fun! Rex and Lockwood face some pretty rough obstacles along the way but the ending was just perfect! I can’t wait to read more form this author.

How is it that Russ McCready can hear and converse with a voice in his head? How can Hope speak with him telepathically and see his every day life through his eyes? Hope is unsure why she has this connection with Russ, but feels that he is the one that will be able to save her. Russ is frustrated by the fact that Hope isn’t able to tell him much, but along the way they do begin to develope a friendship. When they finally figure out the reason their connection started he will do everything in his ppwer to help her. This whole series has been great. I don’t personally feel that the series needs to be read in order, but some of the characters do show up in the prior books so it would be a good idea. I have ways been fascinated by the paranormal, psychics and telepathy. The way this author tells her stories draws you in from the moment you read the first paragraph. Her story telling seems to flow seamlessly and the characters are all very likeable. As always I am glad I stepped outside of my usual genres and decided to read something by a then unknown author to me.

I have personally never read anything by this author before but she is quickly becoming one of my favorites. This paranormal romance had so much to offer including Magic, mystery, drama, family, curses and more. This book introduces us to amazing characters, a beautiful and exciting world, and an intricately woven plot. However this book included such wonderful characters that I really hope several of them get their own story because I would love to read more about them and this wonderful world that our author provided. I have said it before, but I will say it again Nikki has a way of telling a story that completely consumes you. I love that it is told in from several POV’s that give this story and characters so much more depth and insight. Emotions within the story makes your heart melt and fall in love with the characters.

Divine VIntage drew me in with the name and the cover of the book. I am so glad I picked this one up. Set in the current day but brings in a mystery from the Edwardian period. How does someone solve a mystery from over 100 years ago? I love the premise, the characters, and the story. The book was engaging and exciting and kept my attention. I hope more stories are coming from the author soon.
I look forward to reading more from her in the future and will definitely keep her on my to-read list.

This book is the debut novel of Sandra L Young. I loved the fact that it was a historical mystery. I felt like I was in the past with the characters. Her descriptive writing really painted a vivid picture in my mind. Who would have thought that an antique clothing store would produce a mystery? This story is not just a mystery, but also has romance, murder, and some drama to the mix and that is what made this story interesting. This is about Tess and Trey. They are working on the murder mystery together. Their relationship started to blossom in this mystery. I love watching the relationship grow. I highly recommend this story because you are going to want to see what Tess and Trey have found and where their relationship grows into.

Divine Vintage is absolutely amazing. Much like Trey, I was a skeptic due to this being my first book that deals with spirits. After only a few paragraphs, I was a believer like Tess. I definitely put this one down as one of my favorite books of the year. The story of Trey is sweet and romantic. The story of Phoebe and Edward is tragic and romantic. Put these two together and it is simply mesmerizing. Well written, multi-layered characters and a well-formed plot make this book insanely difficult to put down. This story invokes so many emotions. I adored Tess and rooted for happiness and well-being all the way through. I kinda hated Brett and had a very visceral reaction to him. Nevertheless, there was no black and white here and it was easy to see the motivations of the characters and empathize with them, even if I didn’t agree. I can’t wait to recommend this book to everyone I know.

This story was fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. It is a paranormal story with a bit of romance. It contains an arranged marriage, vampires, abusive partners, tragedy, hope and love.

I lost myself in this book and was not able to put it down! I fell in love with the characters easily and felt angry with the villains. It has been a long time since I have been able to fully emerge myself in a book, but this one did it. I can not wait to read book 2. If I had the entire series today, I believe I’d finish it all in a weekend. Highly recommended to young adult readers as well as anyone who loves to get lost in a paranormal story. Possibly slightly triggering to some readers who have been in an abusive relationship. However I felt empowered by the way she dealt with her recovery.

A Spider in the Garden by Courtney Davis – Review By Donya Pedigo

A Spider in the GardenA Spider in the Garden by Courtney Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is a phenomenal read that will have you yearning for more tales about these unique characters, Aranha, Dag, and Jonah. It made me think of the survival skills of The Hunger Games series mixed with the often unusual adopted family dynamic of The Originals TV show, while also adding in some romantic tensions and tendencies. In other words it has it all including vampires, werewolves, daywalkers, and a kick but take names, snarky spider shifter heroine.
**⚠️There are a couple of small trigger warnings in this book.. The first is for talk of suicidal thoughts due to being alone for centuries and having to feed on humans. The second is for one of the secondary characters who deals with trust issues due to having suffered emotional and physical abuse. For me these didn’t hinder the enjoyment of the story at all as it is a great read and it is minimal in grand scheme of the overall story.⚠️**

The dual POV helps you get into the mindset of the characters as they face many adventures and challenges such as Aranha being the last surviving webmaker (Spider shifter). She is just trying to stay hidden under the radar of the vampires and werewolves that can kill her when fate leads her to Dag’s bar where she meets the hunky daywalker for the first time. From there the true adventures begin as they face danger, supernatural politics, mysteries, and other emotions that they aren’t really sure how to handle at first. This is the first book I’ve read by Courtney Davis, but I guarantee it won’t be my last. She has built a world that not only has intriguing primary and secondary characters but an amazing, unique backstory as well. I really enjoyed this book and hope the author gives us more Aranha, Dag, and Jonah.

I am huge fan of this author, so of course I picked up this one with excitement! I truly do love how this author writes, and creates a story that captures you and holds you there until the final second possible. I found this one as amazing as the rest of the books written by this author. Truly engaging!

I loved the feels I got when reading this one. The story had more to it than I first thought at my first few pages in. The characters were full of intrigue, the mystery around them really captivated me. They defiantly change from the first few pages to the end. I loved their change as I would call it from beginning to end. The paranormal factors as usual was very well done with the writing! The book was not predictable at all, there were things that happened that I did not expect, and kept me interested in anticipation to what would happen next! Could not put down this wonderful read!

Love this author so much. If you have not checked out their books before I highly say you do so. This book alone, is a high recommendation and a must read. I also suggest you read the other books in the series, they are as spell casting on the reader as this one is! Wonderful read and wonderful series!

At only 15 Julia was forced into an arranged marriage with an abusive man. Julia being as head strong as he is, endures it all for years, watching herself slip away bit by bit. After an event that is basically the final straw, she is done.

A man named Samuel approaches her and tells her that he can help her escape her miserable life and heal her physically if she joins him as a vampire. With no hesitation she says yes thinking this is the answer to her happiness. She doesn’t realize that emotional scars follow you everywhere even into the undead life.

This book was powerfully written and the concept itself is unique. It was written so powerfully morbid and sad but I could not put it down. I loved watching Julia grow into her own and slowly heal from her traumatic life. The author delved deeply into the emotional damage that can be caused by being abused. Julia battles depression and anxiety with the help of Samuel.

I would recommend this book to anyone who isn’t soft. It was amazing. I will be immediately looking for the 2nd book in the series!

This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. This is the fourth book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous three books as well. They will help with your enhancement of this series as well as get to know the author’s writing style. One of the things I enjoy most about this author is her writing style. It is such that she pulls me into her stories from the beginning and her use of details make the stories entertaining. This book is no different. It is a well written paranormal story with a touch of romance to it. The characters are connectable and have great chemistry. I enjoyed how they support each other and the other characters in the story. They have great growth throughout which made the story easy to read. This is alot going on in this story but the author did a great job of keeping things engaging. This is a fast paced story that has a few twists and turns that kept me coming back for more. I really enjoyed this story and what the characters brought to the story. It is worth the pick up for sure. I highly recommend this book.

Naomi has done it again! You never know what you are going to get from this author, but you know it will be a wild, and entertaining ride. She gave me the laugh I needed at just the right time. My husband asked if I was reading one of her books from the way I was laughing out loud and tears running down my face. It is my kind of humour. This for me is her best work to date. It is hilarious, crazy, quirky, bizarre, and magical all at the same time. I am not going to give anything away as this gem needs to be savoured like a fine wine and uncovered all by itself.
To twist Naomi’s words; If you like absurdly unbelievable tales and magical mishaps, this book is for you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a lovely read about a young business owner, history buff, and paranormal sleuth who becomes determined to help solve a century-old murder. Tess is a wonderful character with a quirky sense of fashion, who loves all things vintage and unique. When she meets Trey and his grandmother, there is an instant jolt of connection, one that neither can ignore. When she starts connecting to glimpses of, and messages from, his ancestor Phoebe, she becomes enmeshed in the details of Phoebe’s life and death. But are those pieces of Phoebe’s love life influencing her feelings for the current (and very handsome) man in front of her? Will she and Trey develop their own bond and future together?

The mystery is an interesting one, and as more characters are drawn into the mix, the list of potential murderers becomes longer and murkier. It was great fun to watch Tess plot and discover, and watch the men surrounding her play out their roles. I liked how she remained quietly firm in the things she knew, despite naysayers who thought her trite or silly. A fun book that I can definitely recommend for cozy mystery and paranormal lovers.

The Ghastly Gumball is the latest offering by the talented Naomi Valkyrie. It is an extremely fun story- a wonderful romp through the delightfully absurd. Cleverly woven this quirky story is a paranormal (MM) romance with humour, funny banter/antics/developments, magic, agendas, well-meaning but meddling family, mystery, drama, secrets, tentacles, curses, a sea witch, an oracle, daemons, originality, chemistry, mysteriousness, friendship, danger, adventure, sacrifice, tension…… and a bit of a twist of fate.
Lockwood King is just a regular guy working hard to make ends meet. But his life is about to be turned upside down- by one little gumball. That’s right- a gumball. How could a gumball completely and irreversible change the course of a person’s life you might ask? Well, you are going to want to read all the delightfully quirky and fun details for yourself! So, if you love fantasy, paranormal romance, and a very entertaining storyline, then this is one sweet story that you will definitely want to read!
I can always count on Ms. Valkyrie to deliver a captivating and highly enjoyable read, and this book is another winning recipe. This book introduces us to characters and a world I would love to know more about, so I am hoping that Ms. Valkyrie has plans for a series here and that there will be more books coming. I would love to see Brix and Xyris get their own story, as well as Jinx and Xianna. Fingers crossed (hint, hint Ms. Valkyrie- pretty please with sugar on top).
As usual, I can’t wait to see what Ms. Valkyrie does next!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Naomi Valkyrie!
