This book is a human/fantasy story. The humans and the paranormal have been at war for as long as they can think back until a line is drawn and violence stops. With the treat hanging in the balance can a cure be found to prevent more violence in the future?
It’s a really cute paranormal YA. I enjoyed it. I would recommend this for teens and preteen readers as a nice sized chapter book that doesn’t have inappropriate situations. There are situations that are relatable such as bullying for being different.

This is a series that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up by this author. I enjoy how this series keeps getting better and better with every installment. I enjoy this author’s writing style and her creative details that bring her characters to life. This is a well written story that is full of steam, fated mates, witches and vampires. Their story is one that is hard to put down and fast paced. I enjoyed the characters and what they brought to the story. They are connectable, relatable and my favorite yet. They bring so much to the story which makes it easy to read and entertaining. This is a story about destiny and what it will hold for these characters. I enjoyed watching their growth as well as their chemistry throughout the story. I really enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend this book and the previous books in this series. A series that you don’t want to miss.

This book is starts off with an introduction between two groups of people, the humans and the shifters. The vampire prince has met with the human king and peace is established between the two groups ending a brutal war. Moving forward we find that our shifter kingdom is in trouble. It has been suspected that someone from the shifter side has poisoned the human princess and if the vampire prince can’t find the solution to cure her, war. In the midst of all this is an adorable little duckling named Ducky who becomes the prince’s emotional support duck but Ducky knows something the prince doesn’t, Ducky is a shifter female that has been in love with the prince her whole life. Candace she find a way to save her prince? Will a new war bring about more death and destruction? This was a great read!
I find it really hard when reviewing these books to know what to say and what not to say because so much happens and I don’t want to give anything away LOL so I’ll just say that this instalment of the series brings us further into the battle against the Rouges etc and focuses on Master Oradea and Natalia. As always this Amazing author weaves an intriguing page turner that just keeps you coming back for more!! I know I sure will be.

Just when I thought the last book was my favorite, here comes the 5th installment blowing everything out of the water! I am constantly astonished at the author’s ability to create incredible, engaging stories time-after-time. The only remotely negative thing I could say about this book is that it’s the last one in the series, and I need more! I dived right into this book and devoured it in one day. We’re back in Juniper Lake but this time with Hadassah and Jezebel. I was immediately invested into their banter, tension, and romance as soon as the chemistry popped off the page. It was beyond refreshing to experience an enemies-to-lovers that didn’t feel downright malicious. If you haven’t read anything by this author yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice. This has been one of the top series I’ve read and while I’m sad to see it end, I know there will be more fantastic work on the way!

I will admit, the title is what grabbed me at first. A duck shifter?! I’ve read plenty of shifter stories, and some mentioned that all animals could be shifters. I was very intrigued by the cover and the title. I’m glad I gave it a chance! I had a few good laughs, and a few meddling mother moments that made me laugh. While I absolutely loved the MC’s, Trisha was far by my favorite. She reminded me of my best friend’s mom who liked to meddle. I found it absolutely adorable that Kobreon called Ducky his emotional support duck. This story is for sure a change of pace from your typical shifter/vampire stories. I’m really glad that I read this book! C.A never fails to disappoint me. She does such a good job with building her worlds, and the story-telling is out of this world. I can’t wait to read more in the weird shifter series!
The time has come. The last book in the Life Is Hell series by Naomi Valkyrie. I’m going to go cry in a ball in the corner. Okay, back. If you couldn’t tell, I absolutely love this series. The series is well written, with each book being better than the previous. I think my favorite is still the first book though. Just because you get that intro into this magical and supernatural world. The first look into the small, mysterious town of Juniper Lake. I highly suggest reading all five of the books and read them in order. They all have their own stories, but the characters and stories intertwine in the best way. This story features Hadassah, which if I remember correctly, is our first angel. She is a little uptight around all of the other supernatural characters since she is “good” and they are well… not. She is a fallen angel though, after helping her brother save a demon. She was punished by being sent to Earth to await her fate. Now, she must try to be on her best behavior in a town full of people who aren’t afraid to bend the rules. By doing that, she makes her brother pretty upset since these people are like his family. Someone goes missing, someone who drives her crazy. Should she help get her back and risk not getting back into Heaven? Or should she forget about her to make sure she gets back to Heaven, while forever disappointing her brother? Read to find out!

I haven’t read anything else in this Collection, but I don’t believe it is necessary to enjoy this delight read. If you’re looking for something in YA Romantasy genre this book definitely fits the bill.
The story is about a young girl named Corisande who is a siren attending a school specifically for sirens to learn to control their abilities, without control their gifts can run rampant and hurt not only others but themselves.
One fateful day, she saves Noah after his boat crashes on the cliffs near her school and she immediately finds herself undeniably drawn to him as he is to her.
Very sweet relationship blossoms between these two it actually brought tears to my eyes, Corisande is so sweet and compassionate it’s hard not to fall in love with her character and thankfully Noah isn’t your run of the mill wealthy young lad. The bond between them that forms upon meeting is enviable to be sure.
For such a quick read I really enjoyed this book, I’m interested to see more into this world and dive deeper into the fantasy’s created, I’d like to see some expansion from her best friend sera’s character because she was a wonderful supporting roll, and I believe whole heartedly she deserves her own HEA.

Another good story in this series. There is a new element added in here by the way of Natalia family. She unwittingly becomes involved in the hunt for Lucas. She seems to be a stand up girl who is tired of always being treated like a baby by her brothers. Oradea is another vampire trying to protect his legacy and property. He meets and unexpectedly falls for the princess of the Benzini family. He is honorable in that respect as he tries to resist her in favor of relations between the Vampires and Syndicate. This all leads to some sexy times as well as action scenes. We see a lot of the past Masters and their mates when they come to town. Things are getting heated on the Rogue side and I look forward to the next installment.

Just Ducky by CA King is a part of the Weird Shifters series. I must admit I truly chose the book because I couldn’t stop laughing at the title and was curious if the shifters were… well ducks obviously! I have enjoyed other books by C.A. King so I was sure that even if it were odd, I’d likely not be disappointed. And while I don’t want to spoil any of the story, I will say I was definitely not disappointed. The story was an easy read with real charm and adventure. With a war between humans and supernatural becoming increasingly likely, the MCs find themselves in a very odd place. I’d definitely suggest giving this story a chance. Especially if you particularly like this author and paranormal. It was enjoyable to have a story that wasn’t just vampires and werewolves.

Such sweet moments sprinkled in. This is book four in the Life is Hell series and like the others it can technically be read as a standalone but once again it picks up after the events of the previous book. Dual perspectives of Jaru and Lark. Jaru is determined to give contract companions a safe place to work. Following the attack in the previous book, Hell in a Handbasket, Jaru starts his own agency, Devil’s Delights. Only shortly after finally starting up warnings begin to appear, notes and phone calls. Contract companions are disappearing, and his boys are next. Lark is the last of his grove and surprised to still be alive and now finding his newfound loneliness too much as his best friend is no longer around as much. Thanks to his secret portal system he is faced with an emergency that shows Jaru and Soren one of his abilities that he has kept secret. Having experienced holding hands and finally his first kiss Lark is willing to do what is needed, even helping Soren cook dinner. Lark and Jaru learn together as Soren helps. But everything is different and the chaos never waivers. One attack was stopped thanks to Soren’s guards, but the mystery remains. Who is attacking contract companions? How long can they keep the warnings secret from Teivel? Does Jaru finally discover what love really is? This world has such a hold on me with each book. While I loved the previous books and was glad to finally get into Teivel’s head each new pair is so unknown, their history, wants, and feelings that each one pulls you in as you watch them grow with each other as the pages fly by. So many sweet moments happened in this book that just makes you say aww, and route for Lark to learn how to be a good boy and for them all to find happiness. Now book five, A Cold Day in Hell, to finally learn what happened to Hadassah and Jezebel after the chaos in book one with Delilah and Malakhi. Can’t believe it’s the end already love Juniper Lake and seeing the gang grow together. See you there.

This is the second book in a series but can be read as a standalone easily. This little novella will not disappoint!
Corisande (what a beautiful name!) is a siren who is trying to learn how to control her song at the Magwich Academy. For someone who LOVES to sing, this is not an easy feat for her. One day, things get out of control and she causes a neighboring school’s student to crash his boat. Rage and fury are unleashed and Corisande sinks further into guilt and a low self-worth.
A great read that you won’t put down until you finish!

A great little novella featuring muses, something that isn’t written about much in the paranormal world, at least from what I’ve found.
Bianca is attending the Brightling Academy for Muses to learn how to fine-tune her powers. One day she returns to find a boy at the school. Because Bianca is struggling in her “Poise and Charm” class, her instructor assigns her the duty of showing Sebastian around the school. Mystery, drama, action, and a clean romance makes this book a very enjoyable read.

I thought I would have a lesser experience due to my mistake of reading this book second, but I actually thought it was incredible that way! This author has quickly made her way to the top of my watch list because the way she writes is captivating. It only took a few pages for me to lose track of time and dive into the magical world right alongside our Muse, Bianca. I found the length of the story to be sublime as the author did an amazing job crafting a marvelous storyline as well as developing the characters to perfection. Just like A Song of Salt and Secrets, this includes a unique take on folklore that I hadn’t experienced anywhere else. I’ve already started searching out other books by this author because I cannot sing her praises enough. This was an incredible YA/Paranormal read, and I highly recommend picking it up and diving straight in!

This YA fantasy book was amazing and very incredible to read. This was filled with so many twists and turns I didn’t know if it was going to twist or turn, which is what kept me reading till the end. It had a whole lot of drama, love, danger, uncertainty, adventure and so much more. When I boy comes to an almost all girls school it really causes a stir. Bianca is then assigned to help him get settled in, and well one thing turns to another, and they become good friends. But then a big issue starts to happen so will Sebastian come to help Biance and save the well of imagination. But will he really do it or is there something else going on. The character in this book is so well-written, that I also felt like I was watching it. The story was well paced and kept in a straight line but also grabbed me and kept me reading. This was a very incredible read, highly recommend.

This book was an incredible read, I really liked the element to this book on the way that a siren is written. Usually, its about them sending sailors to ship wrack but this one took a different turn. Instead as Corisande sings and almost gets a young man shipwrecked. But instead, they rescue him. They both realize that they like each other but it seems to anger some higher up people. This was a very short and captivating read. The supernatural element and the way it was weaved together made this a very ae turning read. This book can also be read alone. Highly recommend.

I absolutely pounced on this book as soon as I saw it! This author is one of my favorites, and I know better than to pass up any of her work. This series has been phenomenal to say the least. I recommend reading the series in order to gain full experience and interaction between characters. I’m not sure how the author is able to fit such an incredible storyline with well-developed characters into a shorter book, but she has got the magic touch! The flow of the story is natural, and the chemistry jumps off the pages. We get to catch up with Jaru, Lark, and Soren who all have such a wonderful connection with each other. I won’t give anything away, but I will highly recommend picking this book up and getting lost in it for your afternoon!

I have read several of the books in this series. I have enjoyed reading them and learning about the couples that come together to support each other even if they are witches and vampires working together. In the 10th installment we learn more about Master Oradea and the vampires interact more with the syndicate members. The connection between Master Oradea and Natalia Benzini seems to come together quickly even though the oldest Benzini brother threatens Oradea to keep Natalia safe. The vampires are working to uncover where Lucas may be hiding with the shifters. A great continuation of the struggle and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

This was the first book I’d picked up by this author, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. The cover definitely caught my eye instantly, and once I read the summary, I knew I had to pick it up. I’m a big fan of the YA and Paranormal genre which made this book a perfect fit for me. I felt like this was a unique take on Siren folklore and our main character, Corisande, going to Magwitch Academy in order to learn how to control her powers. Noah, a sailor, ends up on the other end of Corisande’s powers, but they end up bonding. I love that this is only part of the series because the author has me hooked with just this installment. This book can also be read as a standalone so no worries if you read this one first like I did. I can’t wait to pick up the other one and see what adventures await! If you love paranormal books, this one is for you.

A Song of Salt and Secrets is a standalone novella in the Mythic Academy Collection. I have previously enjoyed the Crimson Sash series by the same author. I love fantasy stories with music in them so expected to enjoy this book and it didn’t disappoint! It tells the story of a young Siren, Corisande, who is learning to control her powers and find a way to balance her need to sing and desire to keep people safe.
This is an enjoyable story that packs plenty of loveable characters (and some less so!) as well as intrigue and mythological background into a short read. It’s a page-turner with lots of details that flesh out the world that Corisande and her friends inhabit.
I love how the musical elements of this story are written, with the Siren’s desperate need to sing and the practical steps they take to control and fulfill this need, as well as the descriptions of how it feels when they do sing. This is fantastic!
A Song of Salt and Secrets gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of teen/YA fantasy who are interested in stories about music.

This is the final book in the Life is Hell series and it was exceptional! I love how Valkyrie wrapped up the story but left a little thread loose for the possibility of future tie ins (or maybe another book down the road). I really love Hadassah and Jezebel’s story and it really is an enemy-to-lovers trope but without all of the vitriol that sometimes comes with it. Aside from Mal and Delilah’s story, this is my favorite. It’s witty, funny, tense, romantic, and action-packed all in one. I literally couldn’t put this book down and read it in one (maybe two because…adulting) sittings. Definitely read this series in order so that you understand the plot line and so that you get to know the characters because one thing (of many) that Valkyrie does that I love is she keeps her characters in her series so the readers are able to see what is going on in characters’ lives from previous installments. Valkyrie has become an author that I will automatically read. This book is a paranormal, FF, enemies-to-lovers, romance. I’m sad to see it come to an end but it was a fantastic ride!

She did all she could and called for help.
Corisande tried to get Noah out of her mind but she couldn’t. She wanted to make sure he lived. She travelled to the hospital. Noah remembered her and the song. There was a rumour that if someone lives through the Siren’s song, the siren would die instead. She knows she should move on with her life but she just can’t seem to say goodbye. It’s hard to tell if feelings are genuine or if this is the curse at play. Once Noah finds out what Corisande really is, that will put her whole school in jeopardy. Plus who would love a monster who tried to kill you?
This was a cute stand alone novella geared towards young adults. A slow budding but forbidden romance between an unlikely duo.

Bianca Harper is a legacy at Brightling Academy due to her family lineage. Being a muse, there is a certain standard to follow. When she finds out she is flunking Poise and Charm class and close to not graduating, she is willing to do anything to pass. The Headmistress tells Bianca that if she takes the new student, Sebastian, under her wing, it would count as extra credit.
Sebastian is the only male in the entire school. He is loving the attention he is getting from all the girls. Bianca is immediately annoyed and thinks he is a jerk.
When bad things start happening around the town, mostly targeting the arts that the muses are trained to protect, Bianca and Sebastian team up to figure out who and why would someone do this. Bianca’s best friend is suspicious of Sebastian. All of the trouble started when he first arrived at the school but Bianca is getting blinded by her potential feelings for him. There is an unfulfilled prophecy of the destruction of the ‘Well of Imagination’. All signs point to someone trying to speed up that prophecy. It’s up to Bianca to stop the prophecy from happening while also trying to keep up with her classes.
This was a fast paced filled with action. The premise of a school full of muses was unique and I really enjoyed that aspect. Bianca is a take action now, deal with consequences later kind of girl but she was also calm and caring. I could see myself befriending her if I went to her school.

After Jaru was treated poorly in the past by previous “masters”, he decided to start his own business for companions to make sure they are kept safe. Jaru knows he has a lot to take on but with the help of Teivel and Oren, he can do anything he sets his mind to. When trouble starts appearing within the business, Jaru doesn’t want to be bailed out like always. He wants to prove to himself he can do this… alone. He hires Soren to keep an eye on the boys under his management.
Lark misses his best friend. Now that Jaru is always gone, Lark finds himself lonely and bored which is a bad combination for him. Boredom leads to mischief and mischief leads to getting in trouble with the other housemates. Lark decides to start hanging around the office with Jaru. As they get to know each other better, they start to cross over the line of staying platonic.
Jaru has very little self esteem so he is constantly questioning himself and as a result is questioning whether he is good enough for Lark. When threats towards Lark come to light, Jaru must find a way to keep Lark safe while fighting his own inner demons.
This book is book 4 of the ‘Life is Hell’ series and although it has less action than the previous books, this one was my favourite. Jaru is riddled with self doubt and anxiety making him feel unworthy which hit close to home for me. His anxiety gets so severe at times that he starts getting manic. Lark at first seems like a childish adolescent when you are introduced to him but as time goes on, he starts to mature into a caring, strong, independent and powerful being. I was happy that Jaru had a chance to find his happily ever after.

Sure As Hell is the fourth book in the Life Is Hell Series. It is a polyamorous, MM, friends to lovers, slow burn romance with drama, danger, mystery, suspense, action, magic, paranormal elements, and a touch of humor. If you have not yet read the previous books in this series, I highly recommend that you do. Not only will it give you the backstory of the characters, but the series is amazing. This story focuses on the characters of Jaru, who is an imp demon, and Larkspur, who is a pixie, that we were introduced to in previous books. Jaru is just starting to get ready to open a contract companion business. Larkspur misses his best friend and offers to help him around the office so that he can spend more time with Jaru. As the two spend more time together the attraction between them grows. Of course, they must overcome some obstacles as danger looms for the two of them. Can they overcome such seemingly insurmountable obstacles and truly be together? I absolutely adore this series and the characters I have met along the way. The storyline is interesting, unique, and original with quirky characters that I instantly adored. I highly recommend this entire series!

Love how fun and adventurous this book is ! Solid enemies to lovers without being vicious & toxic . Honestly , Jezebel is the 1 I’ve been most excited for through this series , & I’m so happy to read her story ! Love this romantic pair up in ways I didn’t expect . Definitely worth the wait !
