Cute and whimsical story from the perspective of Ranger Marco (a raccoon) and the Deer Family: Buck, Doe, and Fawn about humans and how they live. This story is super cute and I love the different perspective it offers so that the readers and listeners get a different idea of how humans live and how odd some of the things we do could seem to animals. I love the illustrations as well. Definitely read this to the littles! Makes for a great story time!

Let’s just take a moment and admire the cover of this book. It’s beyond brilliantly beautiful and the illustrations inside are equally as radiant!

This book was a journey…an adventure and was a very fun read! I laughed out loud several times reading this book and I know that kids will find it even more humourous than I did! Some parents may not appreciate one portion of the humor presented but given the story, I found it very appropriate and the kids will love it.

Ranger Marco, who is a raccoon, is helping out the Deer family in teaching their young Fawn about safety in different environments. They journey out of the woods to a nearby town where big yellow tubes suck up children and bring them back at the end of the day. Where there is a lot of noise that’s not heard in the woods. Small animals that are attached to their owners who are covered in strange material. Fawn learns to respect her environment and to accept who she is during this adventure.

Ranger Marco takes Buck, Doe, and Fawn put to the city on a people safari so Fawn can learn about the human world. We learn about how people act and what they do, but also how they are tearing down the forests where animals live to build even more cities. Me and my daughter really enjoyed this story and learned so much!

This is a GREAT book – looking at humans from the animal point of view. Just as we, humans, go to watch wildlife in their habitats, a group of deer joing their tour guide to see the life of humans. They encounter dwellings, buses, dogs, clothes, etc. And just as we humans have questions, the deer have questions – valid ones that question why we do what we do!

People Safari by Feather Chelle – Review by Jamie Burns

Get ready to gear up with Ranger Marco on a People Safari! Do not worry, no humans were harmed in this adventure. Ranger Marco is taking a family of deer scientists on a tour of a real human neighborhood to gather scientific information about humans. Ranger Marco helps the family navigate the neighborhood and they see daily life of humans including dogs with clothes?!? Chelle does a wonderful job capturing the thoughts animals might have about the rather strange human behaviors they see throughout the story. The illustrations throughout the book are creative and really brings the story to life. While this story is a longer one, it could be split up into sections for reading at bed time. This book would also be great to use in a classroom for a daily read aloud. At the end of the book, you could have your own people safari themed party complete with safari gear and a picnic. You could also have students write their own blurb about an illustration and from an animal’s point of view- this would work well if you have a classroom pet or even a pet at home.

This was such a cute book. A look from the other side of the woods. The animals give their perspective as to what human life looks like from their point of view. Cute and informative. Also a lesson on being aware of your surroundings and listening to what your parents say. My 3 yr old nephew loved all the pictures and we named all the animals and he sat still for the story so I call that a win. Thank you, Feather Chelle, for such a cute book.

People Safari was a cute book about a deer who wanted to adventure outside the forest. Ranger Marco, a raccoon, is about to take them on this journey, but the deer family is a little weary. Fawn, the young deer, is very excited to learn about his outside world and is amazed by many of the things learned. The fawn learns about neighborhoods, people, and what people do all according to the raccoon which is funny. However, they get spooked when they make their way into a garden and Fawn gets a little lost in the city. Ranger Marco finds the fawn quickly and because she was scared she quickly wants to find her parents and go back to the forest. When Ranger Marco asked if they were ready to explore more, the deer family wouldn’t have it. This was a cute book. I liked all the little thoughts about what they think people do in accordance with getting on a bus for school, walking their pets, and even how pooping works. The fact that the deer thought the human world was crazy was also funny because, well, it is!! I found the illustrations really cute too!

This is my first children’s book by this author. I enjoyed how interactive the pictures are and will keep any child engaged. This is a story that not only will have you laughing but will teach your child some things about nature and environment. It is a great story that any child would enjoy sitting down to listen to or read. It is easy to read and has an entertainment value as well. I highly recommend this book.

I love finding new authors and reading all sorts of new genres and books. This book was certainly a filler in all these categories. I just wish that I had younger children to read this to. I will certainly be recommending this book to all with small children. The author does a really great job of creating a story that teaches children as well as entertains them. The characters are very loveable and even though animals very believable. I would definitely read more from this author in future and recommend others to read as well.

Like the vocabulary- from the idiom “faint of heart” to “homo sapiens” to settlement to cluster to monstrosity, which is refreshing for a book I would target towards preschoolers and younger. The book would be a joy to read to a young audience because it is told through different animal voices.

The story reminded me of Just So Stories, telling who humans stand and have hands. As an adult, I appreciated both the cuteness of the book as well as the funny regurgitated children from the school bus scene.

People Safari is a fun and whimsical book told from the perspective of wildlife animals. A group of animals, including a deer family, are taken on a tour by their Tour Guide who is a racoon to observe people in their natural habitat. While on tour they learn the peculiar habits of humans who throw away a lot of perfectly good food, grow gardens full of delicious vegetables the animals are chased away from, and allow their small humans to be swallowed up by large, yellow beasts. Oh, and where do they go to the bathroom? This was a delightful read that was funny, witty, and informative. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and really brought this story to life. Although geared towards younger children this is a fun book for all ages to read. I highly recommend this informative and entertaining book about animals and how they perceive humans.

People Safari by Feather Chelle is a cute and fun illustrated children’s adventure story. Written with plenty of witty humour really made for quite an entertaining read.
This is a safari story with a difference though, as it is told/shown from the animal’s perspective as they ‘tour’ a town full of people, and we get to see our way of life in a different light, as the animals observe the humans as they go about their daily lives.
This is a fairly long story, but with plenty of bright, colourful, and interesting illustrations sprinkled through the book which really help the story come to life.
Join Ranger Marco, the raccoon guide, as he takes the other animals on this fun safari. This is sure to please the children in your life, or the young at heart.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Feather Chelle!

People Safari is a fun story told by animals and their perspective of human life. It will make you laugh out loud at their perusals.
It is easy to dive into the story with the bright and colourful illustrations by Pandu Permana that bring Feather Chelle’s words to life.
Children between the ages of 5 – 10 years and even adults will delight in this refreshing tale where a deer family and their raccoon guide take an up close and personal look into scientific behaviours of the humankind.
An excellent book for special occasions.
