Cuckoo Clock – New York (Unbroken Bonds Book 3) by Elisabeth Marrion – Review by Kerry Carr

Cuckoo Clock - New York: Esther's Story (Unbroken Bonds Book 3)Cuckoo Clock – New York: Esther’s Story by Elisabeth Marrion
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the Unbroken Bonds Series. This is actually the first book I have read. What is good about the books is I didn’t need to read the first two books to be able to follow this story. Its a beautiful and sad story about world war 2 and how it affected so many lives. It is written in a way that beautifully describes what life was like in those times, the fear that people felt and also how peoples perspectives changed, some for good and some for worst.

When Esther and her father are forced to leave their home they run to Amsterdam to seek safety with their friends.

This isn’t the end of their story as their end is getting to England. After boarding the Kindertransport they come across lots of orphaned children on their way to England. Posing as their doctors Esther and her father join them.
When the Kindertransport gets stopped what will happen to the children who already abandoned and alone? And where will Esther and her father end up? And what is the link between a cuckoo clock found in a antique shop and the lady that buys it?

It a very mystical story. Of a foxain going to earth. Everyone is different now and humans are different to these as well. I was blown away with how Amy had put all these different creatures together in one story. Kobab has super strength, speed and knowledge and is at a complete loss with his planet on a brink. Each teen from a different world. I love learning about these different worlds. Follwing 3 different characters each from different worlds is brilliant and invited idea. The story flows really well. A highly recommended read.

Aiko (Heartstrings Book 1) by Brooke May – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur

AikoAiko by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Aiko is one of six assistants created by cupid to help out when his workload becomes too much for him on his own, they all have their talents, but Aiko is one who always messes up, from minor to major, plagues to the extermination of civilisations and everything in between, but Aiko now has a chance to make up for these past mistakes and times in exile. Alejandro Gomez is a man with everything, the looks, the job, the personality, but when it comes to women, he is clueless and can’t seem to get the girl he wants.

We first meet both Aiko as an observer and Alejandro having his heart broken, he is in full romance mode, mariachi outfit and all, but it still hasn’t worked. Shortly after this spectacle, Aiko is called home and summoned to a meeting with Cupid and his other assistants, where she is surprisingly given a new assignment and the others show their feelings when it is announced and not many of them are positive reminders of Aiko’s past disasters. When she receives the file, she realises that her new assignment is the man who she has just been observing, the irony is clear, but she is determined to be successful this time.

The time comes when Aiko has to introducer herself and it just so happens that he is looking for a new assistant and this is where she makes her presence known, but it is not all plain sailing even from the beginning and although positive things start to appear, they are quickly forgotten when the negative things start, but at least Aiko has a plan, even if Alejandro is not convinced that it is going to work. He is shocked and doesn’t want anything to do with Aiko, but when he realises that he is going to have no choice in the matter, he finally relents and agrees to Aiko’s help, albeit begrudgingly..

This is a story of romance and a cupid who has lost confidence in their abilities, it is a testament to second chances and making up for past mistakes, but what they are and what the consequences may be is a question only answered by reading the book to find out whether Aiko and Alejandro can work together to create a happy ending.

This book was Just what I needed at present. I have been reading some heavy books and was looking forward for something light to read. As I was reading the book, I was picturing a movie being made , it is a perfect rom-com and people will love it.
Aiko is one of the love angels of cupid. But unfortunately, she has had disastrous experiences before and had been suspended from that role. She gets her first assignment in the form of Alejandro, who is a kind and a caring man.
Aiko is determined to get a perfect woman for him. But she makes matters complicated when she chooses two instead of one, one whom she thinks is ideal for him and the other, completely opposite, to point out the glaring differences. But Cupid’s arrows once shot, follow their own path.
Will Aiko succeed or goof everything up again?
Read to know more in this hilarious book, which kept me awake in the night laughing in splits.

Cemetery Tour: A Walk Through the Old Yard by Stuart Ledwith is a fascinating collection of ghosts stories inspired by the authors walks through a graveyard.
I found the whole book to be interesting and a well put together collection. This book is less “heavy” and series than other books I have read by him but it was no less well written. Each story was different to the last which made it all the more compelling, especially when you get to 13 1/2 which is about the author himself.
While not something I would necessarily pick up usually this book was a brilliant book to read and I would definitely recommend it!

Gianluca has worked very hard for what he has in his career and his goal is to be CEO. She is determined not to let him ruin this chance that her aunt has given her, she ends up being his savior at the shoot. This opens his eyes and they both start to feel an attraction developing. Will they become something more?

Overall this was a great read. Gianluca had a very large ego so it took me a bit to warm up to him. I really liked Callie. She was a sweet hard working girl. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. The author does a great job of pulling you right in with her writing. Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In this second installment of the Chicago Vigilantes novels it is the story of Sloane Friday, a fiery ex cop with bright pink hair and a chequered history, which is all being brought back to her as she takes her turn as the Vigilante, and continues the fight against the drug that is Phantom and it’s suppliers. The death toll is rising higher and the hospitals are full of patients who have been affected by Phantom, but have not succumbed to it’s deadly influence.

It begins underground with Luke Radcliffe doing some urban exploration in a familiar set of tunnels with a friend of his, that is until he gets sick of him complaining and offers him a get out clause, after he leaves, Luke continues on until he hears shouts and gunfire in the tunnels. Thinking quickly, he tries the door and when he finds it stuck, he goes to find an alternative entrance to the control room above, when he does, he finds the Vigilante facing off against three armed individuals and remembering his military background in the Marines, he takes a shot at the one who is creeping behind the Vigilante and then quickly makes his exit from the tunnels, just before he gets out, the Vigilante catches up with him and nods an acknowledgement before blending back into the shadows.

We next see Sloane removing the Vigilante suit at their command center and get’s a dressing down from her boss regarding her antics in the tunnels and how she isn’t invincible, but is still a vital member of the team and Sloane explains her thinking behind the risk and the consequences of her actions. This leads the conversation to her mystery saviour in the tunnels and whether they had found out who he is and what he was doing there, but the only shot of the license plate is unreadable and they are back to square one, however, they did discover that there was a professor at the local university, Professor Luke Radcliffe who knows a lot about the underground tunnels and may have an idea of whether they could be the way that the traffickers are moving the Phantom around.

The next day Sloane dons a wig and goes to the university to talk to the professor and attend one of his lectures, but first she decides to go to his office and have a look around, then realising the time, she leaves and heads to the lecture hall, but not before running into someone, they apologise to each other and head their own way thinking nothing more of the encounter, that is until they realise that they are in the same lecture hall. After the lecture has finished, Sloane stays back to talk to the professor and ask for his help, he politely declines, but Sloane leaves her card and asks him to contact her if he changes his mind. This is where Sloane and Friday meet for the first time, but as the situation changes and they realise that Luke is in more danger than he knows and that they will have to work together in order to attain the goals which they set themselves, this is where attraction and feelings come into play to make things just a little bit more complicated.

Will they be able to work together and successfully navigate the darkness surrounding them, or will the darkness separate and destroy them and those around them? This action packed thrill ride with a splash of romance added in, will leave you not wanting to put the book down until you know how it ends, another addictive installment without a doubt.

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed all three novels in this box set, each book in ‘The Chase Security Series’ follows either one of the Chase brothers, Ian and Kieran, or a member of their team of former Navy SEALS and other military officers. The series is intended for readers 18+ due to adult themes and each story can be read as a standalone story, however I enjoyed ‘binge reading’ the whole set of books. Book one, ‘Secure Desire’ is Ian and Cassie’s Story and is a second chance at love romantic suspense. Whilst Book two ‘Secure Again’ is Martin and Elizabeth’s Story and sees Elizabeth’s high school sweetheart Marty coming back into her life and they try to rekindle their relationship but things are complicated by their ongoing investigations. Book three ‘Secure Heart’ follows Julian and Holly’s Story. Widower Julian didn’t think he would fall in love again until he meets indie artist Holly and her little girl. Each novel is full of drama, suspense and of course romance. The storyline’s had me hooked from start to finish and the plots kept me gripped and wanting to find out how each story was going to end. I loved the main characters in each novel and the author really made them come alive which made me feel engaged in their stories. I liked how their relationships developed and how their chemistry really came across in the narrative. Each novel is action packed and fast paced with likeable and relatable characters and I found the box set to be an enjoyable and engaging set of books. Highly recommended.

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Angela Shirley

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great series and each book opens up the world of the Chase security and delves into the world of these hunky security guys.

The first book is Secure Desire, When one night imprints in your mind and has never really forget it, but when a chance meeting with the same person stirs up those feelings again, do you go for it?

Ian is a ex-navy seal who has embarked on new horizons with new businesses, but when he meets a blast from his past, will he give love a chance or stay well away.

Cassie is trying to rebuild her life, after an attack she has been left with amnesia, until Ian comes into her life she remembers some of their history but this causes her to have anxiety of what will happen next.

This is the first book in this series and I thoroughly enjoyed the aspects of mystery, intrigue and interlaced with romance. The book held my attention throughout and was eager to race through to get the end on who was after Cassie and the reason. Cassie and Ian’s characters where well developed and the chemistry came through the story.

The story itself was well written and weaved through the suspense and mystery well. I really enjoyed the fresh plot as some of these ex military can be the same but this was a great twist on this genre. I definitely recommend this story and can’t wait to read the next instalment

The Second Book is Secure Again, When you have a blast from your past, will you be able to resist or crave what you have been missing all this time.

Elizabeth is a doctor who has a troubled past, although she takes her oath very seriously but when a man from her past comes crashing in will her heart be able to survive the encounter.

Martin is the CEO of Chase Security, when his brother is admitted into hospital, Elizabeth is the last person he thinks he will see, but will there past be able to be overcome and hopefully create a fresh future or will the past catch up with them and will Martin have to save her from the threat that is attaching them.

This story is full of action, thrills and twists. Martin’s character in the first book was so strong and controlled, in this book you feel the vulnerability in him and it is great to see him in turmoil over this independent and sassy woman. This story was well written and had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and see which one of the characters is next to get his story.

The final book is Secure Heart, When you are asked to help a friend to manage one of there facilities, will his broken heart ever be mended when a woman and her daughter need his help.

Julian is suffering from a broken heart, widowed for a few years he has not really seemed his self since. After starting his job at San Diego office of Chase Security will this be able to try and forget the past, but when he is asked to protect a woman and her young daughter, plus having to deal with a serial killer within his patch, will he be able to manage both of his assignments.

Holly is a single mother trying to survive in the world, with her song writing and singing she is getting by, until one night an attempt on her life shakes her and enrols the help of Chase Security and in walks Julian. As they work closely together she starts to see that there can be light in his broken heart but will she be able to crack through before its too late.

I love this series, each book offers a great insight into the worlds RL Dunn creates. Julian and Holly’s characters are brilliant together and the chemistry pluses off the page and just draws you into the story where I could not stop reading. I do have to say I think these two are my favourite of the duo’s I have read and the tension and action is just enough not to be too unrealistic.

Each story can be read as a standalone but some characters do arc into each story and who would not want to read more of this wonderful stories. I can’t wait to read the next instalment to this story soon.

There is also a lovely woman that the main character meets and wants to start a relationship with. There are times when the mood gets hot and heavy. It is an enjoyable read. The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink – Review by Colleen Noyes

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First and foremost WOW! I am a pretty critical reader, rarely giving higher than 4 stars so you have to blow me out of the water and this book did just that. It takes a unique author to tell a story that revolves around so much vulnerability, betrayal, fear, and yet incredible strength. This story had so many elements it’s hard to articulate without spoilers. The characters are well written, very real, and each have their own quirks. I appreciated that for instance when Derek was speaking the author portrayed that while he was a good man, he still had the same thoughts of any other regular guy, he still had wants and desires and would catch himself having to rethink and almost battle with himself, not because he was a bad guy just that he was human. When you are a woman who has survived any type of unspeakable act the internal battle is real and even with therapy. You constantly second guess, wonder, feel bouts of shame, but then you find an inner strength, a will to survive, a will not to let it define who you are. This author did a perfect balance of all of that, I could feel the struggles of Gia, I could feel the evil of Ethan, I could feel the confusion of Derek. I could feel the hairs on my neck standing up, I could feel the pit in my stomach, I could feel the ache of my muscles, I could feel the determination, self preservation, and the pure will reading these words. I don’t know how I have never read anything by this author, but she will be on my permanent one click list now. If you like a romantic suspense that has a powerful woman with a great supporting cast than this book is for you. I would suggest you read the synopsis for any warnings the author gives, if you are triggered by certain things.

Nadia recuses Cade but when the instant attraction happens she needs to escape quickly before it gets more complicated.

Although they both can’t the incident out of there minds a chance meeting years later ignites the chemistry between them but can both of them take a risk and chance a relationship.

I loved this book, as with all Amy’s books they are full of action and well written characters, this is a great taster and you are left wanting more with these two wonderful people. The characters are full of flaws and with their attraction this make for a great read. I can’t wait for the series to come if this is any indication of the characters and stories.

I love a holiday themed read. This short story is worth the read, it is sweet, heartbreaking and will get you right into the Christmas spirit. It was heartbreaking to see the emotions Kinsley was going through knowing Brysen would not be back for Christmas. I really enjoyed how Brysen’s best friend and Kinsley’s friend Dina are also in a relationship and form this little quad of friends. It is nice that Kinsley had Dina, someone who can relate to what she is going through to help her through it all. I love that this book gives a glimpse of what anyone in a military relationship could go through, even though this probably only touches the surface of what they would endure being apart. I highly recommend this sweet book!

Gianluca (Marini Family Romance Book 1) by Isabella Cassazza – Review by Tausha Treadway

Gianluca (Marini Family #1)Gianluca by Isabella Cassazza
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gianluca (Marini Family Romance Book 1) by Isabella Cassazza. This is a great romance book. Its the story of Callie James who is so excited to get a fashion internship in Rome. Being an American and getting to go to Rome for an internship is an amazing opportunity. Luca is a successful executive in one of the biggest Elite Fashion houses in the world. He is getting ready to become the CEO so he is not happy when his right hand girl is leaving to go on her honeymoon and he is getting an intern. He doesn’t expect Callie to be able to help him in any way shape or form so when she shows up and he is attracted to her he’s confused. He is very egotistical and knows he’s good looking and good at what he does so he acts like a jerk at times. Callie is very timid and Luca yells at her and makes her cry several times. Will Luca let his wall down and let Callie in or will he let his ego stand in the way? Read Gianluca to find out!
