September Breeze (Cinnamon Bay Romance Book 2) by Nikki Lynn Barrett – Review by Angela Hayes

September Breeze (Cinnamon Bay, #2)September Breeze by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

September Breeze is book 2 in the Cinnamon Bay Romance series by Nikki Lynn Barrett. It is a sweet contemporary romance- a nanny/single father love story full of funny banter, mystery, family, small town magic, some drama, breaking down barriers, finding where you belong, emotion, troubled girls, secrets, past pain, worry, obstacles, ‘special’ brownies, crazy antics, adventure, forgiveness, and quirky characters.
Tess Dixon is a successful songwriter who has just arrived in town to work on the musical score for a movie being filmed in the area. But a SNAFU with her accommodation arrangements means she’s got no where to go- that is until some well-meaning locals give her an ad looking for help. It sparks her curiosity, and soon after she’s accepting a job as nanny for two troubled girls and their widowed father. She isn’t planning on staying long- just for the couple of months while the movie is being filmed- then she’s off again. She never stays in one place for long, and she doesn’t do attachments. But this little family really needs some help- and her ‘rules’ are soon tested as she begins falling for both the girls and their handsome father. What happens when secrets are revealed? What happens when life altering news is delivered? When feelings become involved, will she finally drop her defences and take a chance on love- or will her past become an obstacle too difficult to cross? Will walls finally crumble and hearts heal?
This is a great story- beautifully written and easy to read. The characters were well developed and endearing- quirky personalities and all. Even the secondary characters added to the over all feel and depth of the story, especially Tatum, Alice, Hattie, Birdie, and Trixie- the story just wouldn’t be the same without them.
Ms. Barrett certainly put her characters through the wringer though. I really felt for them. Not only did they have their past pain to deal with, then relationship issues, the two troubled girls to look out for, the meddling locals, her fears, his diagnosis, and adjustments- it got to the point where I was muttering “Oh! What now?! I don’t think the story need quite so much drama and angst- but, even with all that, I still enjoyed reading it.
I am looking forward to seeing what Ms. Barrett does next.

Thank you, Ms. Barrett!

Al Capone at the Blanche Hotel by Linda Bennett Pennell – Review by Lisa Brydalski

Al Capone at the Blanche HotelAl Capone at the Blanche Hotel by Linda Bennett Pennell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Two young boys, Zeke and Jack, see a body dumped into a sinkhole in Lake City, Florida in the summer of 1930. Thus starts the book Al Capone at the Blanche Hotel by author Linda Bennett Pennell. Liz Reams is a teacher, writer and researcher, in 2011, with a penchant for bad boys, especially depression era gangsters like Al Capone. When she transfers to Gainesville, Florida to follow her boyfriend she stumbles upon the fact that Al Capone spent some time in Lake City in 1930 so she decides to do a little research and find out why old “Scarface” was in the area for an unusual amount of time. Liz gets drawn into the small town’s history and begins to unravel decades of hidden secrets centered on a violent summer where the KKK, lynching’s, prohibition, and deceit are in excess and where innocence is lost too soon.
This was an excellent book, which for all intents and purposes, is made up of two separate stories: the story of Jack and Zeke and the world they inhabit in the 1930’s South as well as Liz’s story centered in 2011 where her interest in the bad boy leads her to question just how she has been living her life. The author does a great job tying the two stories together and coming to a satisfying conclusion. My only issue is that it wasn’t longer. Thank you Ms. Pennell for a great story!

Tails Always Wins (Chasing Tails Book 1) by C.A. King

5 Stars

I don’t normally read this genre and was a bit worried going in but I was pleasantly surprised.

First I have to say..This cover is absolutely amazing.

This was a paranormal shifter story that hit so close to real life today. Its sad that some of what was going on in this book still to this day is a problem in real life for many.

I found myself hooked on Brodie right from the start and his story went haywire pretty quick. Then he meets Tails and as the title says Tails Always Wins. She wasn’t too sure at first but found herself questioning everything including her own feelings. Working together they became a force and I found myself laughing out loud a few times.

This was an awesome book and not my first by this author. I can not wait to see what she comes up with next.

Highly recommend!!

Dangerously Close To Extinction (Knollville Legends Book 1) by C.A. King – Review by Angela Hayes

Dangerously Close To Extinction (Knollville Legends Book 1)Dangerously Close To Extinction by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dangerously Close to Extinction is the first book in the Knollville Legends series by C.A. King. I have read all of Ms. Kings books now and have loved exploring all her work. She is definitely one of my ‘no questions asked, just one-click it, authors’. Her stories never disappoint, so I didn’t even read the blurb for this story- I just snatched up a copy as fast as I could. So, I really had no idea of what to expect going into the story. I didn’t even know it was the first book in a new series. I saw the beautiful, intriguing, and elegant cover- and Ms. King’s name, and I was sold. This book turned out to be a completely wonderful surprise, in all the right ways. A paranormal/shifter story with an original spin- full of secrets, history, rifts, feuds, mystery, drama, kidnap, missing persons, discoveries, and so much more.
Tawny’s father is missing- and there are ‘people’ hell-bent on finding him. She’s a little afraid, especially when she sees some eyes looking into her home one night. She’s heard stories of large animals in the area, so that’s a little disturbing, too. Then she’s pretty much kidnapped… What exactly is going on? What do these ‘people really want? What is so important? And how does her father fit into the picture? What happens when secrets are revealed, and Tawny learns the truth? Will she trust her instincts, and if she does will they lead her astray?
WOW… What a great way to start a new series! Colour me impressed! Ms. King certainly knows how to tell a great story- I was hooked right from word go. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series, that’s for sure!!! I wonder what she has in store for us.

Thank you, Ms. King!

Out Bad (Sinners or Saints Book 1) by Janice M. Whiteaker

This was not my first read by this author and I loved it as much as any other I have read. I loved Joe and Gwen. Both had pasts that made them who they are today and their inner demons caused them to question a lot at the beginning of this story, but the more I read the more I fell for them completely. Then once again like so many other books I’ve read I found myself screaming at them…Just open up, it will make your life so much easier!! Of course they don’t..Noone ever listens to me! LOL

I loved how this book flowed, I read it in one sitting and was shocked that I had finished so quickly. The twists were placed perfectly and Gwen became my hero towards the end, She actually cracked me up with her inner dialogue and her reaction to it all directly afterwards LOL

I can not wait to get the next in this series in my hands and I also can’t wait for the next in the Lost Boys MC series, I loved that that was mentioned at the end of this one.

This author has become an auto one click for me

Awesome!

This book is hot, hot , hot! You’ll need some water to cool yourself off while reading this book. Although it’s book two in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Characters from part one make a reappearance but this is a separate story. I suggest that you read part one because it’s excellent as well.

This story revolves around Spencer Knox. After managing to get out from the Underworld, he decides to start over in a small town in the middle of nowhere where he meets the woman of his dreams. There are too many reasons why he shouldn’t get involved yet when a friend shows up in town, they end up having a threesome.

The Traitor is filled with tantalizing sex that will leave you wanting more. There is also action and danger which will keep you riveted until the end. This is another winning book by India Kells.

Tails Always Win by C.A. King is a new paranormal romance book that I COULD NOT PUT DOWN! The book shows what the world would be like if the Shifters and Humans were against each other. Brodie, who has always wanted to remain hidden because of his animal nature, is given a choice, Death or get involved with the fight. His once peaceful life is thrown into turmoil. Then enters Tails, who has led an not easy life and has Brodie smitten. Together, they both find a world that doesn’t accept who they are and want to exploit them, can these two work together and make the changes the world needs? You must read to find out.
I loved this book and I love how the author gave us such a strong storyline. The characters are intriguing and I Loved reading how these two learned from the hardness of life to become better people. I was engaged from beginning to end and was hooked from page one. I highly recommend this 5 star read! I look forward to reading more in this series.

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) by Nicole Banks – Review by Maura Harper

Shattered (Shattered Hearts #1)Shattered by Nicole Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

SHATTERED is the first book in the “Shattered Hearts Duet”. It is a fast N/A story about friends and family. There are moments that change everyone’s lives and finding a new normal can sometimes be difficult to navigate.

I really liked the way the story was told in many different POVs, there is even a chapter told from “Angel’s father’s” point of view. I think it made an extremely intriguing way to read. The chapters are short yet full if dialog and details. I never felt bogged down by too much descriptive writing. There wasn’t any filler.

The character development is good, the story moves at a good pace and I am definitely grabbing the second book of the duet to follow their journey further. The suspense was perfect.

I would recommend this for my older younger cousins as there are a few open door sex scenes.

We all know that growing old can come with unwanted problems. This book takes you on a wonderful journey of a daughter trying to find out just who her mother was in the past. I love reading this story it completely had me so full of emotions. If you’re looking for a story that will reach you heart I highly recommend this one. What an incredible read Shattered was. This is my first read by Nicole Banks and what an introduction it was. I was totally and utterly captivated with this read from start till the end. This book faces some emotional and hard topics but this author has dealt with them with compassion and wrote them in a way that really makes people think.
This is an emotional read but one where you get a brilliant understanding and connection to each of the characters and the journey they have through this read!

Ms. King YOU ARE THE BOMB!!! Every time I pick up one of your books I am not disappointed. I love this series Chasing Tails. I have read book 1, Tails Always Wins and I am still in awe of what I just read. First things first, if for whatever reason you have not read any of Ms. King’s books I highly recommend all of them. Her stories are ALWAYS engaging, well-written, action packed, and always hides a little nugget of a message that she lets you find on your own. Tails Always Wins is a shifter story that has a little thriller going on with her characters, and is a fast read. This story is about Brodie. Now Brodie is a shifter who cannot afford to let everyone know he is a shifter. Now it is even harder because the laws of his world, he can be put to death because he is a shifter. He is the quiet type and now he has to decide what to do should he stand up for himself and other shifters or should he stand back on the side lines? In comes Tails that could switch up everything. How is Brodie going to react to Tails? Will Tails be Brodie’s undoing or will she help save him? I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for this new series.

The story Rogue Wave (The Inland Seas Series Book 2) by Gwyn McNamee is a romantic suspense book. It is a story that once I started, I didn’t want to stop reading until the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Cutter and Valentina. Valentina is a strong, intelligent, and independent woman. She finds herself being saved by Cutter. He doesn’t hide his anger or suspicion of her. She is finding herself drawn to him. Cutter is a man that is deadly and dangerous. He is good at planning missions and carrying them out. What he doesn’t expect is how his plans and objectives are compromised by thoughts of her. What does the future hold for Valentina and Cutter? Read this book to find out. This story has moments of suspense that will have you wondering what is going to happen next. I enjoyed reading about the interactions between the other characters that are in the book. Don’t miss out on a story that will have you glued to the pages until the very end. I highly recommend reading it.

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) by Nicole Banks – Review by Angela Hayes

Shattered (Shattered Hearts #1)Shattered by Nicole Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered is the first book in the Shattered Hearts series by Nicole Banks. This is a contemporary friends to lovers romance with some drama, pain, guilt, abuse, and emotion. This story reaches deep and tugs at your heartstrings- full of the highs and lows that life can bring- with laughter, tears, obstacles, angst and heartache. I really felt for the characters right from the beginning and was rooting for them the whole way through- even when they were frustrating me to death.
Angel was in the Marines, returning with some demons that haunt him. Jasmin has been through her own hell and has been trying to get her life back on track but hasn’t been able to shake her past. These two have a history, they were childhood friends, now reuniting after many years. What happens when feelings and desire begin to surface? Will they have what the other needs in order to heal? Will they help mend the shattered pieces of their hearts, or are they far too broken to ever put back together?
The story continues in the next book- but don’t worry, it is available to read right now, so no waiting between books!
The story was a little slow in places, but this didn’t detract to much from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Thank you, Ms. Banks!

Shattered (Shattered Hearts #1)Shattered by Nicole Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am not new to Nicole Banks but this new series was a delightful surprise from her. Shattered is the first book in the Shattered Heart Series and I see promise of fabulous characters and romantic trysts to to come, much like this one was.

In Shattered we get to find out all about Angel and Jasmine and see how they handle life and the many obstacles that can plague a newly home serviceman. Angel returns from the Marines with some guilt and past demons that just won’t let up on him. When he meets Jasmine everything seems a bit easier to handle for him and he finally sees the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Jasmine also has her past and emotional standoffs that will come into play. I love how Nicole Banks shared their story from multiple points of views. It kept the story flowing quickly and made it multidimensional. These two were not my absolute favorite couple of all time but the story was rich enough that I wasn’t left wanting anything. I look forward to seeing what else will come in the next few books. Thanks for the fabulous read Ms. Banks!

This is a collection of short stories (around 20 pages or so each) that follow the sexual encounters of Brad. In this volume he has experiences with several people, including his boss and a woman on a train. These stories are not deep with story line and are designed for a quick read. Great for when you don’t have a lot of time but need a reading fix. I prefer much more story development, so this was a little less entertaining for me. But if you are just looking for the steamy bits, this would be a great read for you.

Tails Always WinsTails Always Wins by C.A. King
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Tails always wins is a new one for me in the sense that I never really go for these type of genre. It’s a well written story that brings up a lot of controversial topics. Brodie is a shifter but keeps that side of himself hidden, but as each day that passes it becomes harder to hide. Tails has had a crappy start to her life but she all she really wants is equality. Tails character portrays a strong and intelligent woman. She basically has to get Brodie to go along with her to be a part of “movement”. Brodie is then faced with knowing that he is now to be used as a means to rid the world of his species. This story felt to be one of injustices, discrimination and letting history repeat itself. Will Tails and Brodie be able to see past their animosity and work together to overcome evil?

Guilty Pleasures volume 3 is a collection of some of the most taboo, steamiest short reads you will ever read. There is a something in this collection for everyone. On a scale of 1-10 this gets a 12 for the heat factor. This may be to taboo for some readers but if you enjoy reading something that will only take you about 20 minutes or so then you may want to read one or two of these stories at a time. Brad doesn’t discriminate. He doesn’t seem to have a type. As long as they are outgoing, willing and women he will have a shot at them.

With likable characters and intense passion, each book I read by this author impresses me through and through. I had a preconceived notion that steamy romances meant the storyline wouldn’t have depth or substance. Via Mari has shown me this couldn’t be further from the truth. Where to begin with this action packed Trouble in Mind by Donna S. Frelick. This is the second book in the series, but it can be read as a stand alone. Donna Frelick does an amazing job writing her stories. This story is written from different points of view. This could be tricky at times but not for Ms. Frelick. The flow is spot on with who you are learning the thoughts and actions. No confusion at all. The adventure that is before me kept me on the edge of my seat turning the pages as fast as I can. In this story Lana and Gabriel team up to find a kidnapped boy and his mother. There are things that do not quite seem to fit and that is where the rubber meets the road. I highly recommend this story. I cannot see what other books I can find by Donna S. Frelick.

The Traitor is the second book in India Kells’ Underground Bad Boys Series! I love India Kells writing, I have read most of what she has written so when The Traitor popped up on my radar I knew I had to pick it up! I fell in love with the Underground Bad Boys series when I read Locke and Tessa’s story (and I was so happy to see them popping up here as well)!
The Traitor gives us Spencer Knox who feels that he is a traitor as he had to go against the people he grew up with and worked with. He has escaped to a small town and bought a garage and is trying to live a normal life. Well, it does not go too well as he notices Josie Baird though originally he decides to stay away from her as he believes he has nothing to offer her … The series has a M/F/M aspect to it so we need the second M and it is Knox’ best friend Gage who comes to help Knox with his garage and he is the opposite to Knox – full of life, joking and bantering …
You need to pick up a copy to see how their paths cross and get entwined and learn that all of them have their own demons and we need to go to the end to see whether they take a chance on the future … I cannot wait to see what the writer will give us in her third book!

This is the second book in this series and it’s just as compelling and entertaining as the first one. I was glad to see some of the same characters in this book and meet some new ones. This book can be read as a standalone, it is my suggestion that you read the first book in this series because it’s a great read and you meet some of the characters from this book. This story was full of action, vivid detail, great world building, and romance, everything I could ask for in a great sci fi. Lana is an FBI agent who is strong and independent. Gabriel is also a strong character with some mystery to him. The attraction is between the two is obvious but can they get to Asia and her son before something happens to them? The author definitely took me on a wonderful adventure and I can’t wait to read the next one to find out where I will be taken next. I highly recommend this book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Be prepared to take a breathtakingly beautiful trip to Positano, a city on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, with Harrie (Harriet). Rowena Holloway has written this positively perfect suspenseful story guaranteed to make you feel as if you have truly jetted across the seas with the character and thrust into this dramatic and suspenseful mystery she is trying to solve. This novel seriously has it all and in the right proportions! Drama, suspense, mystery and intrigue are laced with hints of romance and a hunky Italian man to sweep you off your feet. I won’t go into details on the way things become such a twisty suspenseful read because frankly that would ruin it and I can’t bare to do so. The cover promises family secrets set to become exposed and that is truly the best way to sum this up. So prepare yourself a nice glass of wine and slip away to Italy. I guarantee you it will be a fabulous adventure you won’t regret taking! I personally can’t wait to see what else is to come from the ever talented Rowena Holloway. I know I will for sure scoop it up asap! Happy reading!

What an absolutely fantastic finale book. I found that the authors have such a wonderful group of characters and a refreshing plot and story. I found myself unable to put this book down. I really enjoy paranormal stories and characters. I felt as though I was there in the midst of the action.

I really found myself associating with Lorelei. She has so much to lose but so much to gain and I felt as though I was going through the emotions and drama as she was. I like how she is able to grow and move on from her past and how she is able to change the world she lives in. I really found that the authors were able to bring the plot and story to a great ending. The characters draw the readers into the drama. I really would like to read more from the authors in the future.

The twist that the author brings into the story was quite unexpected but so good. I like how the book was not predictable. I like how the author balances the action and drama with a slight romance undertone. The characters are also so drawing. Monty and the Monster by Rhonda Smiley is an adventure ‘chapter book’ written with 8 – 13 year olds in mind, I imagine. But I am waaaay older than that and still enjoyed this cute story, so I guess it can be appreciated at any age.
Monty Hyde is in the seventh grade, he’s moved around a lot and always seems to be the ‘new’, awkward kid in class. His brother never seems to have any problem fitting in, he’s popular wherever they go, and his father is always seems to be working. Leaving Monty feeling a bit isolated, and very lonely. He would love nothing better than to have a close friend, someone to just accept him, and to hang out with. So, the story takes an interesting turn when Monty discovers a replication serum in the basement- and decides to ‘create’ his own friend. What happens next makes for a really fun and touching read.

Thank you, Ms. Smiley!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Tails Always Wins (Chasing Tails Book 1) by C.A. King, 5 stars.

After a horrible childhood, Tails has dedicated her life for the cause of shifter freedom. In a world on hate, most humans look at shifters as nothing more than animals. All she wants is equality. Her boss tasks her with bringing a wolf shifter named Brodie to help their cause. Brodie has always lived under the radar, never bringing attention to what he really is. All that changes in a heartbeat. With nothing left but to go along with Tails, he has no idea if he can really trust her or the one she works for. But things may not be what they seem. Will they learn the truth? What can they do about it?

This is a great beginning to a series. The characters are great. They live in a very unjust society and all they want is to be free and happy. They story itself is quite interesting. I can’t say I have read anything quite like it before. It is full of action too. I could not put the book down until I was finished. I hope to see much more of this series in the future.

If you like paranormal reads, this book is for you.
