This is the third book in the Millersville series by Susan Specht Oram. It was a little harder for me to get in to than the others but still a good read. We follow Miranda Diggs who has been through a lot and is trying to relax. But things don’t turn out that way. The reader did a good job of keeping you engaged. I do recommend this book and this series.

Miranda Diggs hasn’t lived the best life. She’s had some childhood trauma that might have prompted her most recent incident. She accidentally sets fire to a motel and subsequently, has a lot of reparations to make. Her mom sends her off to a secluded resort where she can think through her actions and try to get her life together, while avoiding the media. What Miranda doesn’t realize is that the reporter tailing her might be her only hope for survival.
Once at the resort, it doesn’t take Miranda long to figure out that this isn’t your typical location for a private getaway. Things start to go downhill fast and Miranda longs to just be in Cabin Eight.
While this book is part of the Millersville Series, this can be read as a standalone. Of the previous two books and this one that I’ve read, I think this one is my least favorite but it’s still a really good read. There is a lot of twists and turns in this story and it will keep your attention until the end. I look forward to more stories from Susan Specht Oram!

This book is a steampunk twist on the classic Cinderella tale set in America. I thought it an interesting twist on both the classic story, and for the steampunk genre. It has everything you’d expect: automatons, magic and mystery. I enjoyed how the prose was written, it flowed well and made the narrative easier to follow. I really liked the idea for the storyline where the friends reunite to break the spell Ellie is under and the journey the pair go on in an attempt to accomplish this task. My heart broke for Ellie’s situation and he trying to get through to her father and save him just broke me. I got emotionally invested in her situation and was rooting for her from the beginning. I have mixed feeling about Ben. He’s relatable in that he’s not perfect and there are times I wanted to yell at him for his lack of urgency, but honestly I think these smaller moments are what make his character, and make him more relatable as a person. The step-sisters on the other hand, I enjoyed because of their differences. It reminded me of my sister and I (one of us isn’t ‘evil’) and our differences in personality and interests.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this and thought it a great take on the classic tale.

A Curse of Ash and Iron is a clever YA fantasy story. It is a retelling of Cinderella set in Philadelphia in 1876. I enjoyed the characters, especially Ellie. Even though I was familiar with the basis of the story, I was rooting for all good things for her. Moving the story’s setting to the United States added a new layer to the ages-old tale. I grabbed this because of the cover and story blurb and was not disappointed. Historical fiction is one of my favorites and especially the nineteenth century. This left me wanting more. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Grayson Wu is a well-known, successful architect. His plans to renovate a part of the city for a new residential/business district is going along smoothly, until it comes to the purchase of the single perfect building. No one seems to have any information about it. When Grayson hand picks Natalie Chapelle to be his liaison between himself and the city officials, he realizes she is hiding things, including her last name. I love this series and each of the boys of the WaterFyre Rising gang. Cannot wait for the next one!

This is not my first book by Susan Specht Oram. I have to say that her books never disappoint. This is the third book in the Millersville Series. I have read all of them but I would say that they could stand alone. This book is so suspenseful. It focuses on Miranda Diggs. She has lived a questionable life, at best, and now she is making another questionable decision. This book is part suspense part sci fi. This book contains so many twists and turns that it definitely kept me guessing and definitely kept me turning the page. This is definitely a book where nothing is as it seems. I definitely recommend this one!

This is an adorable YA adventure story. Full of Supers, Mutants and the mystery of them all unfolding in a destructive and exciting way. You don’t know who is on the side of the right but just might find your team when you need it the most. Noah is a lovable smart character who isn’t a super yet has a superpower that is all his own. Being a normie has its perks too.

An enjoyable and engaging steamy historical romance, with a MMF relationship which kept me happily turning the pages. Set in early San Francisco, where women are scarce, but attitudes are accepting of just about anything, so when both Isaac Stark and Walter James are drawn to the same women, no one raises an eyebrow! French beauty Suzette de Massey blows into the city like wildfire, and is instantly attracted to both Isaac and Walter, and is torn between them despite them being opposites. However, Isaac and Walter have been friends for years and owe their lives to one another and so have a deep affection for one another. Suzette seems to kindle the fire that has been smouldering between them for years. Suzette is excited by the threesome, but she has secrets and a dark past which is catching up with her, putting all three of them in danger. The storyline kept me hooked and the added historical details made me feel immersed in the time period. The main characters are likeable and relatable, and I felt engaged with them throughout the story. The chemistry between Suzette, Isaac and Walter literally sizzles off the page and leads to some extremely passionate and steamy scenes. I loved how the relationship between the three of them develops throughout the book. An entertaining read.

This book was so very good. It is a steamy romance with a really good plot twist throughout it. This is a short story but it packs a punch and plenty of steam in its pages. These pages are also filled with action, danger, suspense and tension. Riley is a private detective who definitely is not interested in having a relationship. However, that is until she meets Tristan. Tristan finds his way to saving a spicy redhead. The sparks instantly fly. This is definitely a great read and one I am looking forward to reading more of in the series.

This is an entertaining and gripping high-stakes psychological conspiracy thriller, which had me hooked from start to finish. Although part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone story, however I would recommend each book in the series. Miranda Diggs was a house cleaner who whilst trying to purge bad memories accidentally set fire to a motel, and so now full of regret and longing for absolution she checks herself into a mysterious remote resort. Although she was hoping for some peace, her curiosity led her to venture beyond the “No Trespassing” signs, and she finds herself in a rundown barn. Miranda is then horrified when the door suddenly slams shut, and then locks, the only way out appears to be through a trapdoor leading into a tunnel below. Miranda soon discovers that she’s in an eerie game that seems to know all her secrets, and the trials which start as subtle emotional prods quickly turn into life and death situations. Miranda is not only tackling these trials, and her phobias but also the walls, which are literally closing in. This is a fast paced, action packed story, with plenty of plot twists and turns which kept me reading late into the night! The suspense levels had me on the edge of my seat whilst reading this, and I definitely felt totally immersed in the story and was there alongside Miranda as the walls were closing in!

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this collection of poems. I am not a big fan of poetry in general but I did enjoy Edgar Allen Poe so I thought I would give this book a try. It was not my jam, to no fault of the author. I just did not enjoy the majority of the poems. The poems themselves are amazingly written. Just, again, not my thing.
Based on what I do know about poetry, the author went outside the lines and created something new all together. There is so much variety from his obvious love of The Beatles, to a darker subject. It was all over the place. There are not two poems even close to being the same in this collection. Poems about superheroes, mothers, classic rock to mental health issues. There is something for everyone.
The only thing I wish the author would have done differently is categorize the poems better. I didn’t like how it went from one extreme to the other right back to back. Maybe it would hit differently if you don’t read the whole collection all at once. The subjects are deep in their own ways and the author did really well putting things into words. Words that are usually internalized. If you are not faint of heart and love poetry, I would suggest reading these.

This was an enjoyable retelling of the Cinderella story with a Steampunk twist, which had me hooked throughout. Set in Philadelphia in 1876, in a world that has automatons and steam powered ‘motor cars’, and childhood friends Benjamin Grimm and Eleanor Banneker are reunited. However, Ben’s delight soon turns to dismay when he learns that Eleanor has been under a spell, put on her by her stepmother, for the last seven years and she’s been forced to live as a servant in her own home. Ellie had spent years bewitched under her stepmother’s watchful and unforgiving eye, whilst being hidden in plain sight. Ellie becomes hopeful when having met Ben again, he seems immune to the magic binding her and their friendship is rekindled. However, the couple must find away to break the curse before midnight on New Year’s Eve, or both Ellie and her father will be bound forever. I felt immersed in the storyline and engaged with the characters. The intriguing storyline and plot twists kept me happily turning the pages, whilst both the setting and characters were brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative.

This is a great addition to the series and it just as exciting to read as the other books. I found myself becoming invested in this book with ease, wanting to find out what would happen. I enjoyed learning about the main character. You could really see her development throughout the story. This is a fast paced story and the author throws in a lot of twists and turns. It is enough to keep you interested throughout the whole book. I think this book really complements the others and I am looking forward to whatever is next.

Cabin Eight is the third book in The Millersville Series by Susan Specht Oram. I found this book to be like the previous two and had it’s fair share of lies, suspense and deceit. Miranda (the main character) is well developed and find herself in multiple situations that I feel will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what happens! Tensions are at an all-time high as Miranda finds herself facing some of her greatest fears! Miranda is trying to seek solace at a mysterious remote resort, and she finds herself faced with much more than she could ever have imagined. Miranda has no stop when it comes to her curiosity being peaked…it’s how the old saying goes “curiosity killed the cat”, will Miranda find herself as being next? There are plenty of horrors, dangers, conspiracies, games, and twists and turns that make for an interesting read. The only way to find out what dangers Miranda gets herself in to, is to read the book!

This book is an historical retelling of Cinderella. It is well written and a pretty interesting story. I enjoyed it more than I expected I would – Cinderella adaptions are, in my opinion, starting to feel overdone. However, the author managed to put enough of her own spin on the story that I found it enjoyable. I would have liked there to be a bigger emphasis on the steampunk element as the look and feel of the book suggested that is what we would get. The characters were good and I liked their instant connection. It stayed true too the original story while also giving its own feel. I think this book was worth reading and I will be exploring more from the author in the future.

The author has done it again! I truly enjoyed Shore Lodge which is the first book in this series, I highly recommend reading it so you can get a feel for the town and the development of the characters in this book. To me, this book wasn’t as dark as the first one, but was equally as entertaining. Jasmine or Jas (the main character) loves her dad and just like any girl who loves her dad, she is willing to do anything for him. When her dad springs on her that he has a devastating lung disease that doesn’t have the best hopes for recovery, Jas start to think of ways to help her dad. She steps in and does what any daughter might do for their dad, or would they? Jas works for a man who doesn’t have the best reputation and is downright shady, especially with his had in laundering money. She decides that she needs to take a risk and steals the money that is needed to get her dad into a treatment center. Next thing she knows is that sirens, badges and being stranded on the side of the road quickly become her future.
With all of these exciting new things happening to Jas, she quickly has to learn who her friends are, aren’t and even finds herself making new friends along the way. She is on a “vacation of a lifetime” trying to get her dad to treatment. This book has all the feels involved…. there’s plenty of laughs, maybe a few tears and of course a huge dose of mystery.
This book was a pretty quick, entertaining read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You just never know who’s going to show up, what’s going to happen and who it is going to happen to! Is Jas the only thief or are there multiple thieves? Does Jas get her dad the help that he needs or are her efforts a complete bust? The only way to find out is to read for yourself!

At the start of this book it gave me vibes like Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory or Alice in Wonderland. I felt like the message throughout the book was that Miranda needed to face her wrongdoings in order to have a happy life. BUT, then I realized the intended message was more about the ethics behind what the company was doing to people without consent. Miranda was put in many interesting situations, but I felt they were very unrealistic and that could be that the timeline went SOOO fast. I did like that the ending found Miranda making apologies and that things were wrapped up. I also think that this book brings up many interesting ethics questions. So, overall, this one was just okay to me.

Noah Reagan has ambitions and one of them is to attend the Summer With Supers Youth Camp, he wants to work in the scientific field and make a difference, not like his dad who just cleans up after them, but alas that was not to be because of some mutants attacking the town of Lincoln where he lives. All he wanted was to be bully free and able to enjoy himself while learning, but when the programme is cancelled, he has to actually work over his summer holidays instead, but at least it’s only during the week, he will at least have the weekends free to have fun with his best friend.
So as soon as his dad finds out what happened at the latest mutant attack and that he was there, he is furious and so his internship with Mega-Maintenance company begins, it isn’t glamorous and it isn’t easy, but Noah learns just how much work his dad has to do after the smoke clears and the rubble settles. While he is working, he thinks about the mutants and what he has seen when they attack and he thinks that he might have a theory as to what is behind it, but he needs some super help with his investigation.
Meanwhile, there are more mutant attacks all over Lincoln, but will Noah be able to figure out who the mastermind behind the mutants and the mega-issues they are causing, or will he be able to stop them before the Supers get more than they can handle? This is a fun read with plenty of mutants, superpowers and mayhem galore as Noah tries to save his not so super summer!

Wow! What a thrilling read! From the beginning till the end, I was hooked, even though there were a couple of times I had to reread a paragraph or two just to make sure I understood what the author was trying to say with her story. Other than that, this was very well written!
The story begins with introducing us to Jacklyn Stone, who has recently lost her husband, and as expected she is absolutely crushed and heartbroken. Nothing is working out how she had planned and imagined it would. The bank accounts aren’t adding up like they used to, she’s had a fender bender, misplaced her keys, and overall is having a good run of bad luck! She’s beginning to wonder if all of this has to do with the grief she’s experiencing or if something more is contributing to her newfound chaos.
Dusty Stone (Jacklyn’s son) is a contractor and has recently convinced his mom to give him power of attorney over her health and finances. He’s truly concerned that his mother is really losing her mind and Dusty just feels like his sister needs caring for their mother.
Rose Stone (Dusty’s sister & Jacklyn’s daughter) is a hard-working single mother doing everything she can to provide for her son and now has the task of also taking care of her mother. While she’s not trying to neglect her mother’s needs, she agrees with her brother that their mother needs to be assessed and admitted to Shore Lodge. This will help Rose tremendously with a much-needed break from the double duties she has recently inquired.
Now that Jacklyn has been admitted to Shore Lodge as a resident, there are many disturbing and horrific situations that come about. Jacklyn handles several different situations to the best of her abilities. Does Jacklyn come out of these situations ok, did Dusty and Rose make the right decision by having their mother admitted to Shore Lodge…the only way to find out is to pick up the book and read it on your own! I promise you will not be disappointed!!

This is a good story that moves along at a good clip. This one is written with a different look than book 1. Almost made me think it was a different author. It starts off good then when the action starts..it just threw me with the words and actions of all of the characters. They were made to be like bumbling idiots. It just seemed weird to me. This one is a huge struggle! I was expecting a book like Shore Lodge but it is more along the line of Thieves. The character of Miranda seems like she has a good head on her shoulders. She is dropped into the most unbelievable storyline. I just really had a hard time keeping interest. Sorry I wanted to like it.

This is book 7 in the Madeline Dawkins series and I can’t believe these books keep getting better every time. These books can be read as a standalone, however I do recommend reading them in order so you get the backstory of the main character Madeline and wow what a story it is.
In this book we are with Madeline and Mike that their PI Agency as they are handed new cases. Both cases are from people Madeline used to know before the scandal of her ex husband. There is a case of embezzlement, a missing bookkeeper, a possible gold digger and more secrets and lies then you could ever imagine. The question is are these 2 seeming unrelated cases connected in any way? And if they are does this mean Madeline and Mike are about to uncover something so big neither of them could have anticipated how far it reaches? This story is fast paced, full of twists and turns and what I love is just when you think you have it all figured out the author sends up for another loop and makes you question everything you think you know. I love feeling like i am part of these investigations solving the clues along with Madeline and her team. Another amazing read. I can’t wait for more.

I give this Author 5 stars because this book has taught me that life can be scary and not all the time are peaceful. What Wylie was dreaming was a moment in life when he had to make a difference before life catches up to him. Not my type of book but it is a way of learning that you have to chance after dreams because sometimes life is too short. For Wylie, the hunter was life too short but his dreams can be the cause of this life-changing and a moment that he has to be out of his comfort zone.

Cabin Eight is a psychological thriller and the third book in The Millersville Series. It tells the story of Miranda Diggs, a housecleaner, who regrets making the mistake of starting a fire at a motel in the mountains. With the weight of that mistake, and several others from her past, Miranda is bogged down in guilt over her past decisions. Not knowing how to put it past her, or how to heal, Miranda accepts an offer to stay at a remote resort.
When Miranda arrives at Cabin Eight, she tries to settle in with the intention of having some time to work through her thoughts and feelings. However, a discovery inside the cabin leaves her feeling a bit unsettled so she decides to talk a walk. During her walk around the resort Miranda discovers a large, abandoned barn that immediately grabs her attention. Ignoring the large “No Trespassing” sign she wanders inside the barn and finds herself locked inside. Miranda becomes desperate to find a way out of the barn and starts looking for other ways to escape. She discovers a trap door in the floor which leads to a dark, dungy, underground tunnel. This is only the beginning of the nightmares Miranda encounters as she finds herself in one life or death struggle after another. Will Miranda be able to escape from the resort plagued with evil?
This was an intense, psychological, fast paced, edge of your seat, thrill ride as we follow Miranda’s struggle to survive at a resort where she is faced with one hellish experience after another. As she faces her fears and phobias Miranda is pushed to her limits in a deadly game by people who seem intent on breaking her. She is faced with decision after decision that test both her mental and physical strength. Miranda faces deadly challenges back-to-back, mad scientists, creepy clowns, sinister snakes, and evil corporations in a fight to the death.
The scenes were vividly described and really pull you into the scene with the characters. I got goosebumps and could feel my skin crawl through some of the scenes. The characters were all amazing and added layers and depth to the storyline. Miranda starts out feeling immense guilt from past mistakes and is feeling weak and vulnerable. When faced with deadly situations she reaches deep down and finds inner strength and courage that she did not realize she had. The people she meets along the way, from mad scientists to creepy clowns, all were interesting and unique. I could not help but chuckle out loud at the nicknames that Miranda came up with for many of the characters. A great psychological, crime thriller, with a smidge of humor sprinkled throughout.

Miranda Diggs seems to find herself in trouble wherever she goes. Helping out with cleaning homes, she forgets things and even caused a fire that destroyed 3 other rooms. Now there are enough fines she will be paying back forever. She has just not found herself, well until she goes on a mind clearing vacation. At which point she finds herself fighting against crimes that continue to follow her. This is a well written crime based thriller. The events that happen are enough to keep you reading. This author has a way with words and getting her point across. I found this to be a fast paced story. The characters are believable as well as the events. Just the twists and turns are enough to keep your interest. Enjoy! Oh No Spoilers!

Fiddle and Fire (Hearts of Gold Book 2) by Ariella Talix. This is a great historical MMF romance. Its the second book in the series and I always say books are better if read in order. A beautiful socialite from Paris, Suzette, travels to California to change up her life and meet new and interesting people. When Isaac and Walter meet the French beauty they are both intrigued to the point of having to get to know her. Suzette has decided having two men in love with her is so fun she never wants to leave but when her someone from her past comes looking for her things become intense. This person is very unhealthy for Suzette and will destroy all chances of happiness for her if he has his way. Will Suzette be able to say in California where her life has finally become bearable or will she go back to the old life of sadness and emptiness in Paris. Such a fun MMF romance with just enough spice!

I started this book and didn’t put it down. It captivated me right from the start. It was not a long book by any means but I could not stop reading. .Rene, the main character, has lost his sister to murder. He will not stop until he figures out who killed her. Due to his wealthy family he is able to go to the crime scenes but is not getting privy to the information he needs. His and his sister’s friend, Dahlia, his source of information is in the fire.
In the midst of all his grief and depression, Rene is seeing an illusion of a woman, mostly in his dreams. This book is quick to read but written with lots of thought and flowing pen to keep you reading. I will read this author’s books again.

I have really enjoyed reading Fiddle and Fire. I have recently found that I really enjoy Historical romance stories and this is one of those. Fiddle and fire is an amazing MMF book. The characters and world building was really good. This book was a page turner for me, as I wanted to know what happened next. I highly recommend this book, if this is your type of genre!
