Starting my teaching career as the butt of a prank gone wrong is not how I imagined things going. The hits keep coming when it’s none other than the notorious Ares Bellingham’s nephew who pulls the prank.

Just when I think things can’t get worse, my past resurfaces, threatening to disrupt the life I’ve worked so hard to rebuild.
But Ares has a plan, one that might be worth the Hail Mary he’s throwing my way, and suddenly my life becomes even more complicated.

I’m ready to fight for her, but will she let me prove that what we have is more than just a game?

Julie Castle is a natural-born romantic with a modicum of artistic talent inherited from her mom and a love for telling tall tales she got from her dad. That set her up for being a starving artist, the biggest fibber in the world, or a romance author. She’s so glad she chose the latter. She’s always had a love affair with the written word. As a child growing up in a small town, she loved visiting the local library, a converted gilded age mansion, and getting lost between the pages of a book. The drafty old mansion could be a spooky place, but she still loved it. She enjoyed poking into behind the scenes areas she wasn’t supposed to venture into. She’s still the same way, which is why she loves writing romance with an edge, paranormal, suspenseful, super sexy, or just laugh your pants off funny. She resides in Wisconsin with her family.
He’s found a new home with her family while his own holds secrets to her past… This heart-wrenching 300+ page rural romance novel will have you gasping and keep you guessing as mysteries unravel, and as Jack and Sophie discover whether their love for one another can survive the deepest of wounds and darkest of betrayals.
Had it not been for her cousin’s wedding, Sophie Wendall would never have returned to Bitterbark Creek – her aunt and uncle’s idyllic farm-stay on the outskirts of town. Twenty years ago, tragedy stole everything from her including her memory, leaving only secrets and lies. Now that she’s back, there are just two things on her mind: to find out the truth of what really happened to her that day at the dam and to steer clear of the wicked Garland family and their charismatic son – the boy who broke her heart.
Jackson Garland is one of the few people who know what really happened to Sophie all those years ago, but he’s terrified of sharing the truth. To do so would jeopardize his happy sanctuary and newfound home at Bitterbark Creek. Upon reconnecting with Sophie, he realizes that while her extended family may have accepted him as one of their own, she’s going to take a little more convincing. Although he tries to charm and distract her to keep his secrets safe, it isn’t long before he’s at risk of falling under her own tantalizing spell.
As children, their love for one another kept them close until a car accident took one life and hatred tried to steal another. But dark truths can’t be hidden forever when ghosts from the past step into the light. Might the revelations be too daunting for them to handle? Or will Jack and Sophie finally put aside their family history and let love guide them into a future together?

I was a fan of Isla Vaughn when I discovered her Hidden Valley Elite series and was looking forward to this new series. As always, this book exceeded all my expectations.
Quarterback Keeper is the first book in the Fall Lake Ballers series, and this is Kylian and Gia’s story to share. Kylian seems to have all the good things life can offer, such as wealth and success on the football field, with dreams of making it to the NFL. Appearances can be deceiving. He is struggling with his mother’s illness and how he is going to continue paying for her treatments. In addition, his devious father, with political aspirations, is willing to do anything to get Kylian to give in to his demands.
Gia is on the run, fleeing her dangerous past, and has finally found a safe place to stay, an uninhabited boat. That safety is threatened when a stranger appears onboard one night. The stranger turns out to be the owner, none other than college football star Kylian Wilder. As the two spar through the night, Kylian comes up with an agreement that could help them both get what they want. For him, that is freedom from his demanding father; for her, it’s freedom and safety from her past. All she has to do is be his pretend girlfriend and then his fiancee. It shouldn’t be too hard, right?
As the two spend more time together, the sparks that flew that first night become hard to ignore. They move from constantly arguing to a friendship and then more. The secrets they are keeping threaten to ruin what could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Vaughn did a fantastic job of creating two complex characters. Kylian is such a caring man. He is definitely a heartthrob, but as the story continues, it’s his heart that shines. His devotion to his mother melted my heart. I loved the relationship he shared with his mother. I also loved the relationship Gia develops with his mother. The moments the two women shared were some of my favorite scenes.
I started this book, and I only stopped to do the necessary things like eat! It kept my attention that much. It was the perfect balance of romance, emotion, and suspense. If you like those things in addition to strong men and women, give this series a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Inside the walls of The Cloistered City, a young girl waits to be inspected, she is one of a group, all the same age and gender, all waiting to be admitted as servants and find their calling within the city walls, but this particular girl will do anything to achieve her dream, this girl is Petra Ondise. Petra has a goal in mind and she will do anything to achieve it, she wants to know what happened to her brother who was a courier in the City, but his death didn’t ring true with her and she is determined to find out the truth, by any means she can, including working her way up to being a courier herself.
As expected, Petra passed the inspection and began working as a washer girl in the city laundry, but unlike the other girls, she keeps to herself and just listens to the others around her, that is until an injustice is served and she helps another girl, even though it means she is punished too. One evening when she can’t settle, Petra decides to go for a walk near the orchards and she comes across a situation which will forward her goals and she grasps this opportunity with both hands and inserts herself into a courier’s life.
As she slips into another’s shoes, she encounters one of the Knights of Shivalry, the highest ranked warriors with almost supernatural abilities and almost becomes another statistic, however, one particular Shiv takes pity on her and she has a close escape. One day, her deception caught up with her, she knew it would happen, she explained the situation and accordingly accepted her second punishment, however, this one was much more severe and when she delivers her scroll, she collapses, it just happens to be the same Shiv as before and he takes care of her, but this isn’t the last she will see of him.
As she heads out on a personal delivery, he yet again saves her from a discretion and this is where things begin to get interesting as it turns out he also knew her brother and the truth suddenly opens up before her, but it isn’t the only one and suddenly she is thrust into the centre of a sacred mystery which the Cloistered City tried to hide behind rumours and fabrications, but what will happen when the Sacred and the Sacrifice come together? This is a fantasy romance where nothing is as it seems, the smallest mistake can cost you your life and secrets are currency, where this world will suck you in and keep its grasp firmly on you, as you discover what lies beneath the Cloistered City.

Petra Ondise has two goals: rise from the rank of laundry aid to courier and find out how her brother truly died. Her brother was a loyal courier for the crown when he came to an untimely death. During the Festival of the Late Harvest Moon, she runs into Third Shivalry Captain Rand Tsenturian. There were rumors that her brother and the Captain were not strangers, so what were they to one another? Captain Tsenturian took Petra to the the garden where the Antediluvian Stone is housed. He revealed that her brother, Aldeny, had taken himself out. In her refusal to believe that to be true, she placed her hand on the stone and demanded he tell the truth or she would make him her sacrifice. Upon this declaration she unintentionally bound the two of them together. What does this mean for them? I enjoyed this book and I do hope there is a second one. Though the story starts out slow it does get better so stick with it and you won’t be disappointed. The characters and world building were great. Fantasy isn’t a genre that I delve into very often, and I mostly end up picking misses, so I was glad to find a good one.

Gia is on the run from her ex-boyfriend and has nowhere to go. It has been a few months since and she has finally stopped for more than a few days taking refuge on a small boat called the quarterback keeper. She has no idea who the boat belongs too, but no one has stopped by in almost two weeks, and she was starting to think she has stayed too long anyway. She is awakened by the fact the boat is moving and no way that anyone did not see her since she was sleeping in the only bed there is. Kylian has a lot of pressure on him such as his mother having cancer, making sure there is enough money for her treatments, making sure to continue school and still manage to focus on football and possible NFL options. Add in that his mom wants to make sure he has someone that will be there for him when she is unable too. How in the world would he be able to add dating to the list of his responsibilities he currently has. Well one look at Gia makes him decide that maybe it just might be possible to get exactly want he wants. He comes up with a plan that will help Gia and himself with a few of their problems. Thing is, can Gia trust Kylian and will outside forces make this arrangement one they will both regret.

This is a short but exciting read. I think it takes a special talent to write something that pulls you in so completely even with it being a shot read. The characters are easy to bond with and well written. Right from the start you know you’re in for an exciting read. It’s got a fast pace but it’s not overwhelming or over crowded with information which I appreciate since it is a shorter read. I’m really looking forward to to the next one. Four stars and highly recommend.

This author has quickly become one of my favorites – the writing style, character development, balance of story with spice, just overall books I always devour because I enjoy them so much.
Kylian is a college football star with big NFL dreams. On the surface, he really has it all. He can have any woman he wants, people look up to him, and he has the world in the palm of his hands. Behind the scenes, he is a man with a terminally ill mother weighing on him as well as a manipulative father who is obsessed with his legacy and the political scene. When he gets on his boat and finds a woman hiding out, he takes advantage of an opportunity that didn’t seem like it could arise with anyone else.
Gia is the woman on Kylian’s boat and she is hiding from a past she is trying to outrun. When the incredibly handsome Kylian offers her an opportunity to fake being his girlfriend to make his sick mother happy, she recognizes it’s really a chance she can’t refuse in her current situation.
As Kylian and Gia present themselves as a couple for his mother, they never plan on doing anything but playing along. However, as they are together and facing different circumstances within their own situations, lines blur and feelings start to develop. They begin to share hopes, fears and dreams and recognize something within the other they might like to pursue. Will they be able to solve their issues together and check out the possibility of forever? Quarterback Keeper is a great mix of danger, attraction, suspense, sweetness and spice, and such a great introduction to their world. I’m really looking forward to reading further in the series.

This was a wonderful slow burn of fantasy, romance and some mystery. Even though it is a little slow at the start, it is worth it to keep going. The beginning is mainly world-building so it is understandable. The heroine, Petra, is very determined and her quest ends up being for revenge and also about self-discovery. On her journey, she crosses paths with a Captain who intends to punish her for not bowing in respect, but then Captain Rand instructs them to leave her alone. This is the changing point of the book. Enter high tension, romance, and some spice. I highly recommend to all fans of fantasy and romance.

I am such a football romance fan, and Quarterback Keeper by Isla Vaughn fits that need perfectly. This is the first story in the Fall Lake Ballers series, and it finds Gia and Kylian falling for each other after a deal they strike up to allow both of them to achieve their goals. Kylian needs to get his father off of his back because he wants him to marry a billionaire’s daughter and Gia is trying to hide from her ex-boyfriend. Neither of course, come forward with the truths until it is too late, but the twists and turns keep coming. I definitely was rooting for them and of course, they fell in love with each other a little too late.

Gia is hiding out on a boat from a horrible abusive ex. When the boat owner Kylian finds her she is sure she’s screwed. But Kylian is battling life troubles of his own with a terminally ill mother and a horribly manipulative father. So he strikes up a deal with Gia to fulfill his mom’s dying wish of him finding Love. They fake date in exchange for her having a safe place to sleep. But Kylian’s dad and Gia’s ex make multiple attempts to tear the two apart. I loved the banter, the way Gia fit in with Kylian’s mom and friends, and the twists in the story. I have been in a horrible reading slump for awhile, trying to find time to read let alone finish books has been hard. But THIS book did it for me. I was hooked from the start and stayed up late into the night finishing it. I loved it and can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

Sanctuary by Bree M. Lewandowksi was an absolute rollar coaster of a read. This book will absolutely throw you back and forth between emotions. The characters are frustratingly real, and brought to life with incredible storytelling. At some points I wanted to reach into to book and give Petra a good shake! Sanctuary will absolutely enthrall you and if you’re anything like me, make you cry and mourn alongside Petra. I do want to mention a trigger warning, as some of this content is really not for the faint of heart, however irregardless a great read.

This was an enjoyable fantasy romance but it was so much more than a fantasy romance. This story had it all, secrets, lies, danger, magic, and a young women who is prepared to do anything to get to the truth about her brother. I was captivated by Petra right from the beginning and I really felt her strength and determination as she went through every obstacle to find the truth. She knows the only way she will find out the truth about her brother’s death is to go into the Cloistered City as a servant. But getting in there isn’t an easy task and once she gets a job as a maid trying to find answers leaves her open to danger. With all the secrets, lies and danger the last thing she needs is romance until she meets Rand Tsenturian. Rand Tsenturian is captain of the elite soldiers called the Shivalry. As part of the Shivalry Rand’s only focus should be protecting the Cloistered City however when Petra catches his eye he knows that he has to help her and keep her safe. But how will Petra react when she realises that Captain Rand knew her brother and may have the answers she is looking for?
With an ancient incantation, a sacrifice that needs to be made, fate, danger and a romance that won’t be denied this is a story that is captivating and holds your attention from beginning to end.

This was a super fast read and the story is captivating. For being short, it goes straight to action which I loved very much. The story grabs you, then unexpected romance, and action. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but it’s worth the read. It has dragon shifters, a forbidden romance, and some triggers like S/H scenes. They don’t go into hard details but for those who need to check triggers this might help. The book also ends with a cliff hanger and did an amazing job because not only does it make you wanting to read more but the ending gives the reader hope. Many possible ideas on what might happen next and I enjoyed that. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast read with a super hero magic vibe this is the book for you.

When I started this book, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it. However, it was good. It was a slow burn. It’s a different kind of fantasy romance. It wasn’t smutty, and it only had a little bit of descriptive innuendos. It had great world building and good characters. The character development was interesting since the two main characters developed and grew together. I would recommend this as a quick read (I read it in one day).

Wow…this book is just…. I couldn’t put it down because of how good it was. I was a bit hesitant since I am not really into football… but I am so glad I gave this book a chance. While there are scenes related to football it focuses mostly on a different plot and it was just so good. I loved watching the love blossom between everyone in this book, including the side characters. This starts as a contract relationship that benefits both parties in a positive way, not in a blackmailing type of way, that slowly turns into something real (after some drama/ angst/ breakup). This is a quick read… but that might also be because I could barely put the book down and only did so when I absolutely had to. This book does not end on a cliffhanger, but it does make me want to read Ares and Liam’s story so badly!

Sanctuary by Bree M. Lewandowski is a captivating blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery, set in a richly imagined world where tradition, loyalty, and power shape the lives of its inhabitants. The novel centers around Petra Ondise, a determined young woman who, driven by the desire to unravel the mystery behind her brother’s death, embarks on a journey to rise from her position as a lowly maid to a member of the prestigious House of Couriers. This journey is not just one of social ascension, but of discovery, both about her brother’s fate and her own intertwined destiny.
One of the novel’s strongest elements is the world-building. Lewandowski paints the Cloistered City as a place steeped in ancient traditions, where rumors and secrets swirl around the elite and where magic quietly simmers beneath the surface. The Shivalry, towering elite soldiers, add a layer of intrigue, and Rand Tsenturian, the enigmatic Third Shivalry Captain, captures attention as both protector and enigma. His dark red eyes and mysterious connection to Petra’s brother weave tension and allure throughout the narrative.
Petra is a well-drawn protagonist. Her determination to uncover the truth about her brother and her willingness to step into dangerous waters to do so makes her a compelling character. As she navigates the House of Couriers and unravels the deeper connections between her brother and Rand, the tension builds toward the Festival of the Late Harvest Moon, a pivotal moment in the story. The festival itself feels like a turning point where fantasy, history, and personal destinies collide.
The relationship between Petra and Rand is central to the novel’s romantic arc, and their chemistry is undeniable. What begins as a haunting presence of Rand in Petra’s life soon becomes a deeper connection bound by fate, culminating in a revelation that transforms both of their lives. The moment when Rand pulls Petra into the hidden, ancient garden within the emperor’s palace feels like a threshold between worlds—between the known and the mysterious, between duty and destiny.
The themes of sacrifice and the interplay of fate and free will stand out. The novel’s title, Sanctuary, is both literal and symbolic, as the ancient garden where Petra becomes Sacred and Rand her Sacrifice becomes a sanctuary from the rigid expectations of the Cloistered City. This hidden place, full of ancient magic, evokes a sense of timelessness, where the rules of their world no longer hold sway, and where love and destiny can finally intertwine freely.
At its heart, Sanctuary is about the lengths we go to for truth and love. Lewandowski crafts an emotional, atmospheric tale that brings fantasy and romance together in a seamless way. For fans of character-driven stories in richly developed fantasy settings, this novel offers an unforgettable escape. While the plot sometimes leans heavily on familiar tropes within the genre, Lewandowski’s beautiful prose and her deft handling of romance, mystery, and magic make this a standout. The slow-burn romance between Petra and Rand is satisfying, and the conclusion feels earned and deeply resonant.
Overall, Sanctuary is a must-read for those who enjoy a mix of romance and fantasy, with a dash of mystery and intrigue. Lewandowski’s world and characters will linger in readers’ minds long after the final page is turned.

This was a fast paced, action packed quick read. Roran is a rule breaker. He likes to mingle and interact with human women. After a battle with Dragon Hunters he meets his mate. A human named Lila. He is instantly drawn to protect her from an assault. Things heat up and Lila is thrown into a world she didn’t know existed. This was a great read.

I am a science nerd and this story registered with my soul. It’s a beautifully written slow burn romance about healing and taking a leap of faith in love. I absolutely loved all the bird facts. I loved the character development and growth. If you’re looking for a story that gives you all the warmth and feels this one (and the other in the series) will do that for you.

I love this author! One of my favorites! Quarterback Keeper gives us a promising start to a brand new series. I always love when A favorite author of mine comes out with a new series. Gives me something to get excited about and something to look forward to! Like the last series I read by this author, football is involved. Which just ticks off another box for me, I’m a sucker for a sports romance. Obviously different characters and setting but the same can’t be put down till you’re finished reading. I love the twists and turns of these books as well as the character dynamics. This new book is no different. Gia is on the run. Hiding from an abusive ex. When she stows away on a random boat she feels she’s currently in the clear. What she doesn’t realize is that the boat’s owner is going to change her life. Will it be for the better? Well I guess you will have to jump in to find out. Kylian is stressed. Dealing with football, class, his mom’s prognosis, on top of his dad trying to force him into a relationship stumbles upon a happy surprise. Deciding to take his boat out one night, not realizing he has a passenger, he’s trying to clear his head. It’s not till he stumbles across Gia that he comes up with a plan. A “you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours” idea. Fake date, fake engagement, and if need be fake marriage. He wants to make his dying mother’s last wish come true, while keeping his dad at bay. Will Gia agree? Will it actually work? You know these stories, nothing is ever that simple. There’s always a twist. There’s always drama. And Quarterback Keeper is no different. Now it’s up to you if you are going to jump in on Gia & Kylian’s adventure. All I can say is if you do, you won’t be disappointed!

The author hit it out of the park with this one..hmm wrong metaphor..she scored the game winning touchdown with this one! Kylian and Gia meet in an unorthodox way, but quickly figure out they can help one another and begin a “fake” relationship to meet one another’s needs….but things aren’t always so simple. Gia’s past and the danger it brings lurks beneath the pages throughout the read and Kylian’s mess of responsibilities add to the complexity.
I’m very familiar with this author and have read previous series from her, so I knew I had to pick this one up and I was not disappointed. The author, as always, put together a page-turning read with excellent characters. She has an effortless writing style that pulls you in as a reader from the first pages and makes you keep going until you’ve devoured the whole story. She has excellent character development, slowly developing and adding complexity to them throughout the story, but giving you everything you want and need as a reader. There is suspense, a bit of heat, and just an overall excellent start to a new series. I’ll be picking up every book as it releases!
