Basil (Silver Springs Pets, #7)Basil by K. Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A quirky romantic comedy which can either be read as part of this multiauthor series or as a standalone story. Biomedical engineer Basil reluctantly joins a dating app only to unknowingly enter a supernatural realm. Following a disastrous date, vegan Basil is turned into a vampire, and uses her skills to create a serum which means she can live without needing blood. She decides to head to Silver Springs, a sanctuary for supernatural beings and opens a juice bar and tanning salon. Basil then meets three guys and soon finds herself in a reverse harem relationship. Her undead life is then put in danger when she discovers that vampire hunters are after her fangs. I was definitely taken on a ‘paranormal rom-com adventure’, and I felt fully immersed in this story. The descriptive narrative brings both the unique characters and the paranormal setting vividly to life. I liked the characters, and their chemistry came across in the narrative. I liked that basil was a proud curvy woman and that she found love with her supernatural suitors.

Molly is just finishing her Master of Fine Arts degree and as part of that she has to written, produce and direct a play. While her search for the leading man has not gone to plan her girlfriends brother suggests an employee at the University who may be perfect for the role.

When Lachlan auditions for Molly she sees he is perfect for the role but takes a chance as he has no acting experience. As the rehearsals go on there is some flirting and attraction between them when Molly explains she is in a Polycule and this enhances there chemistry even more.

I love Phoebe’s writing and this is a new genre which needs more representation on and was a joy to read. Understanding the terms and relationships added a layer to the story and you uncover more about the people. This is definitely a story around Molly’s characters and what she wants from both partners in her relationships.

I can’t wait to read more books in this series and from Phoebe.

Molly is in a bit of a bind with her play and she needs to find her leading man quickly. It will help tremendously if he can do a Scottish accent and be comfortable in the traditional kilt. Her girlfriend, Poe, recommends a guy she knows and speaks with him about auditioning for the play. Enter Lachlan, a maintenance man who has never acted before, but he is Scottish. He is unsure of trying out for the play until he sees Molly, then he is all in. Sparks fly but she hasn’t been with a man in about a decade and he isn’t looking to date. Will they get a happily ever after once the final curtain falls?

The Scottish Play (PolyAm Fam Book 1)

I have read several books by Ms. Alexander and have yet to be disappointed. So often you get a female lead without an ounce of fat and is happy with her body. Ms. Alexander is a wonderful role model for body positivity. I wish there was a lot less fat shaming.

Molly and I are both short and curvy, but I’m not nearly as comfortable in my skin as she is. She’s got a loving partner and built her own little polycule and is happy. She’s stressed with Grad School and her play which is her final project for school and lacking a leading man. Enter Lachlan thanks to a shove from Poe.

Lachlan’s voice is still going through my mind, or at least what I think it would have sounded like and yum. Not sure why some accents are more appealing than others but I’m a sucker for a good one. He is an average guy who was simply working when approached and convinced to help Molly.

As always the main characters along with the supporting characters are all wonderful and intriguing. Ms. Alexander does a wonderful job developing each and every character on her books.

She is one of my favorites and don’t think twice when I see she has a new release. Looking forward to the next one.

So this book was definitely a whirlwind. I will say, the plot itself was interesting- with a vegan turned vampire who comes up with a serum as an alternative to regular vampire sustenance. It was a light, humorous book, as well as a quick read. It’s not something I typically read; and while I did enjoy it, it just wasn’t something that sparked as an all time favorite. However, if you’re interested, pick it up and try it! It might be your next best read!

This is quite a different take on being a vampire!

Basil finds herself in the hospital after a car accident while on a date…and now she’s a vampire. However. she’s a vegan…so she uses her knowledge to create a serum to satisfy her hunger without her having to bite another human. When she makes her way to Silver Springs. she finds herself immersed in the business world while also meeting her very interesting mates. But, what will happen when she finds herself being hunted?!?

This was an enjoyable read that kept me turning the pages. It was humorous and steamy while also having some drama and suspense. There were times that I found myself laughing out loud at the characters that become a part of the story. Definitely going to be checking out some more books in the series!

This was my first book by this author, and I am absolutely blown away! I had no idea how much I was going to love this, but I’ve recommended it to several of my friends already. I enjoyed getting to know the polycule and their different personalities as well as how their relationships with each other varied. I laughed out loud at a few scenes in this book which is a hard task to accomplish. There are plenty of emotions ranging from spiciness, love, angst, sadness, and more. If you like your romances on the vanilla side, this is probably not the book for you. I also truly love that the author does not rely on the steamy scenes to makeup the entire storyline. They are great additions, but even without them this book would have been amazing! I cannot wait for the rest of this series to come out because I need more!

I’ve read a few Phoebe Alexander novels over the last couple years and I’ve always loved the ability each book had to open my mind and even teach me more about myself. I was ecstatic to learn there was a new book out and even more so to learn it exceeded my expectations. The Scottish Play is the first book in the Polyam Fam series and I’m so excited to know that there is more to come in this genre. This book was well written with several great characters that you came to know and love as though they were your own friends. The romantic element was steamy and exciting while maintaining a rich storyline. I really enjoyed this book.

The Scottish Play (PolyAm Fam Book 1)The Scottish Play by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Molly has to stage a play she wrote for her final project for grad school. She wrote a play where the main character is a rugged Scottish man. When all of the people who auditioned didn’t suit the part, Poe, Molly’s girlfriend, suggested Lachlan since he was a handsome Scotsman working in the school. Poe convinces Lachlan to go hear Molly out. He agrees to help her out with the play but has little experience in acting. Lachlan is instantly interested in Molly’s look. She’s bright, colourful, and curvy. When he finds out she has a girlfriend, he is disappointed and tries to be good.

Molly is a bi woman in a polyamorous relationship. Although she has not been with a man since highschool, she can’t help but feel attracted to Lachlan. At first, Molly tries her hardest to maintain a director-actor relationship, but the tension is strong between them plus her polycule keep cheering her on to go for it.

After she gives into her feelings, sparks fly. The couple work well together. Although Molly had some trepidations about being with a man again, he exceeded her expectations in more ways than one.

I loved Molly as a character. She is sweet and her childhood/teenhood actually resembles mine a lot which made me feel connected to her as a person. I have always been on the curvy side while my best friends were skinny. I was bypassed by some boys because of this. I also cannot be myself with a lot of my family members. I found myself rooting for Molly.

To be honest, I didn’t really like Poe that much. It seemed like she wanted a polyamorous relationship that mostly benefited her. When Molly started opening up about her time spent with others, it was like Poe was constantly trying to one up her or something. Then again, it could just be their dynamic. To each its own.

The first thing I absolutely love about this series is that each book can be read as a stand alone or in whichever order the reader wants. As someone who would always be looking for the first book in a series, and sometimes not be able to find it, this takes a lot of that stress off the table. Basil is a quirky and fun rom com packed with the supernatural! As a curvy girl myself I absolutely loved the body positivity in this book. I will definitely be looking for more Silver Springs Pets books! I highly recommend giving this series a try!

An enjoyable and engaging romantic comedy which kept me happily turning the pages. Molly Rose is completing her final grad school project; having written a play she now has to stage it. Her girlfriend Poe has found the perfect looking man for the kilt-wearing Scotsman role but unfortunately, he cannot act. The ruggedly handsome Lachlan is not sure how he’s ended up helping Molly but apparently, he has the perfect accent. Although Molly is happy with Poe they are in a polyamorous relationship, and she can’t help but feel an attraction towards Lachlan. Despite not having dated a man since high school Molly is keeping an open mind as her and Lachlan have a real connection. They all believe that once the play is over their fling will be too, but they are all keeping an open mind. I love the characters in this story, Molly, Poe and Lachlan are all likeable and relatable. The chemistry sizzled off the page and led to some steamy scenes. I loved the fact that the storyline centres on a polyamorous relationship, and I love the idea of this series chronicling a polycule’s romantic adventures.

The Scottish Play (PolyAm Fam Book 1)The Scottish Play by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Polyam Fam. It is a romcom which deals with relationships, family, angst and learning experiences. I really enjoyed this story and I have loved the authors previous works so I was excited to read this and I wasn’t disappointed.
This story has a polyamorous relationship which our leading Lady Molly is in. I didn’t have much of a understanding of this type of a relationship however the story has helped my understanding more. This is a story of finding romance when you don’t expect it but also learning about different types of relationships and learning to accept people for who they are.
This is Molly and Lachlan’s story

Molly is in a polyamorous relationship with Poe. Since being in a relationship she has never wanted to date someone else until Lachlan came along.
Lachlan was introduced to Molly as she needed a Scottish man for her play. The connection and attraction between them was instant but Lachlan doesn’t date and Molly isn’t sure how she feels about dating someone other than Poe.
The more time they spend together though the more they can’t fight their attraction to each other but will Lachlan understand and accept the relationship that Molly currently has? Will Lachlan be able to be in a relationship with Molly knowing she is also in a relationship with Poe? Will this just be a fling while the show is happening or will it become something more?

This book is full of twists and turns as our characters battle with their feelings and emotions while they find out what they really want and how they can get there.
This is definitely a story of acceptance which I loved and I found it interesting. I can’t wait to read more in this series

Fun story. Part of dialogue and mannerisms made me cringe, like when JJ says “bruh” and gets high or makes pot references. I just felt like his character would have been better without all of that. I can’t understand why it takes JJ and Jo so long to meet Theo, and it seemed like Theo was around more than the other two. I liked Basil a lot! First of all, the name Basil for a woman, love it, she is also strong and independent making a fresh start on her own and building something beautiful and also meeting her mates. I think Theo was my favorite, at first I was iffy about him because of how Lainie reacts to him but I am assuming that is due to who she thinks he is. All together a nice read, weird take on supernaturals with a snowman and a relative of the Jolly Green Giant but, fun.

The Scottish Play (PolyAm Fam Book 1)The Scottish Play by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Phoebe Alexander’s The Scottish Play follows Molly, a bisexual polyamorous playwright, and Lachlan, the Scottish guy that Molly’s girlfriend finds to play the lead in Molly’s play. During their time together, Molly and Lachlan fall for each other, Lachlan learns more about polyamory, and both of them have to face their fears. Firstly, polyamorous romance is such an interesting concept and I think really important representation. However, I felt like the way it was portrayed – as well as bisexuality – was often inaccurate or bordering on fetishisation. It’s really well written, with strong characterisation, and detailed and interesting backstories, but at times I felt the dialogue during the intimate scenes made me cringe, and sometimes it seemed to focus more on smut than plot. I did love the way the polyamorous grand romantic gesture/happily ever after was written, though. I recommend this book because I do think it’s important representation and I admire Phoebe for writing this. I didn’t love this story but I did enjoy the writing, so I would love to read more of Phoebe’s work or this series in future. ‘She was as radiant as the sun. I shouldn’t have been surprised by her gravitational pull when I was just a fading moon.’

I believe this is the first story that I have read that had poly romance. I liked how it was different from the usual romance story. A love triangle with a different kind of ending. There was more to the story besides the romance though. It made for an interesting book. Despite the poly love not being for everyone, you will find yourself relating to the characters anyway. They still have their flaws like every other person.

The Scottish Play is the first book I’ve read by Phoebe Alexander, and the first book I’ve ever read with a polycule (and, I’ll admit, I had to look it up!). There were actually a few terms that I paused my reading to look up, which sometimes I find annoying, but in this instance, I found to be very informative and contributed greatly to the story.
I am a huge lover of rom-com style stories, and while this book this didn’t necessarily fully hit the comedic aspect of my favorite genre, it did hit on all of the heartwarming feels I look for in a story, and I loved seeing the changes in each of the main characters. Both Molly and Lachlan were complex characters (with some grit and determination behind them) who showed character growth and development, alongside their sidekick friends (though I will say Molly’s main squeeze was not my favorite). I think a lot of people will relate to both Molly and Lachlan’s internal struggles with their families (feeling looked down upon for their size, likes/dislikes, etc.) and the ending was definitely worth a smile. Good story!

I enjoyed this story. She joins a dating app, has a bad date and wakes up a vamp…but she’s a vegan. I found this quite entertaining and funny. I loved the supernatural town. Basil has such a contemporary feel to her. She could be your best friend, other than the blood lust. The characters she interacted with fit in so well. I loved how she worked out a solution to being a vegan vamp. The romance had good chemistry and brought a sweet touch to the story. I definitely recommend this to fans of the supernatural/paranormal romance world.

K. Rose has been a part of the Indie Author Community for years. Getting her start as a reader, her keen eye led to a wonderful career in Alpha/Beta and ARC (Advance Reader Copy) reading. As a joke to her fellow advanced reader colleagues, she created a spoofed blurb and cover for a story and the feedback was so positive that it sparked her to run with it.

That stoked a fire that has her racing down a multi-genre freeway with no off-ramp in sight. K. doesn’t write to “market” and she is fairly certain that her humor and use of puns may cause an eye roll or two. This still wouldn’t stop her from making sure there is humor in every one of her stories. As a Multi Genre Author, there is sure to be something for everyone to love.

She has traveled the USA extensively, including Alaska, and lived in thirty-eight of the fifty states. Home is now the beautiful state of Wisconsin, where she dreams up her stories in the company of her menagerie of furbabies, including five puppies, five rescue kitties, a flock of over forty chickens, ducks and turkeys. Ruled by a Rooster named Chicken Parm and two huge fifty pound turkeys named Tommy Boy and Tom Petty, and lastly a ninety-gallon tropical fish tank.

Life will always be interesting for K. Rose, which will fuel her works, and keep her muses singing, come join the chorus.

This was a fun loving entertaining read. This isn’t a genre I would normally read but I am glad I took a chance on it. There were some terms I didn’t know in this book but as I read on everything was explained very tastefully. This story was about family, love, relationships, friendship, great characters and so much more. Molly and her polycule were happy and when she met Lacklan she couldn’t help but feel the attraction. Molly had bad experiences in the past when she dated men so since then she has dated women. Lachlan isn’t looking for a relationship but can’t help but feel the attraction he has toward Molly. This is a must read if you want to know how this story turns out for these two and for the rest of The polycule. I can’t wait to read what the author has in store for us next.

This is the third book in the love on tap series. I have read each and every book and have loved each and every book. I do want to note however that I do believe that each one does function as a standalone.
This book features two very interesting and well developed characters. Miller is a bad boy who finds himself entangled with Maisy who just kind of fell into his lap (or more accurately jumped into his car). Maisy is a runaway bride and she just so happens to be the help that Miller might need. This book is absolutely amazing and I loved following Maisy and Miller on their adventure. I definitely suggest reading this book!

The Scottish Play is the first book in a new series, Polyam Fam, by Phoebe Alexander. This book is contemporary romance- a romcom with plenty of fun, spice, a poly relationship, adventure, angst, drama, emotion, surprises, friendship, family, connections, mystery, and more.
The characters were really well-developed individuals who continued to develop and grow over the course of the story. They were interesting and likeable, and their dynamics were fun and really added an extra element of interest to the whole story.
If you aren’t familiar with poly relationships, and not sure if that is something you would be interested in, don’t let that element put you off reading this really great story. If you go into it with an open mind you will be surprised by what you find, and there is so much more to the story than the ‘poly’ and erotic elements. There is definitely depth and substance here.
This is really well written story, and again, Ms. Alexander has produced an enticing, entertaining and poly-positive story that drew me in right from the beginning. Another great read from this talented author!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Phoebe Alexander!
