This book had me hooked from page one! Neve and Con work together through dangerous situations to stop the apocalypse. Their strong friendship and connection are paramount in their mission. Being able to see different scenarios from both of their points of view made this book more exciting and even harder to put down. I couldn’t wait to finish a chapter to get the other person’s point of view. This book is filled with so much action, adventure, and suspense that it was hard to put down!

King Bastard (A Dark Sparrow Novel Book 6) by India Kells – Review by Beverly Finnie

King Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #6)King Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love love loved King Bastard! Now I know I have to go back and read books 1-5. This was the 1st book I read in the series and though it would’ve been nice to know the backstory going in, it still worked well if it were a standalone novel.
Lazarus and Sasha have so much tension and attraction between them that it comes out at the very beginning. The development of those 2 characters as a couple was beautiful, despite the anger, bullheadedness, the need to isolate, and the absolute need to protect.
Unfortunately for Sasha, Lazarus’ psychotic deadbeat dad is still out there, and though he’s lost everything he’s still very dangerous. Which is why Lazarus does everything to keep her at a 10 foot pole distance, but his resolve is breaking and he can’t deny how he feels for the good Dr any longer. Until Jamieson Finch is put to justice if it be behind bars or death, Lazarus needs to keep up the cold shoulder appearances to keep her safe. Is that really enough though?
Do Sasha and Lazarus finally admit how they feel?
What happens with Jamieson Finch?
Me personally I need to go learn the backstory of not only Mr. Finch but Lazarus’ other 5 brothers! As for the rest of you, it’s time to read book 6 or start at the beginning! I wish I did but hey book 6 was good and I’ll read it again in succession after reading books 1-5.

When you read this title, you wouldn’t think this is a romantic story. Well let me tell you that this story ended up being truly a suspense of a romance! It kept me in suspense the whole time turning into new surprises each corner. Neve and Cornelius are such great characters with such past stories. I can’t wait to see what’s next! When you start with a psychiatrist who was injured during a session to a potential relationship with a person who had rugby past injuries that ends up working together for the future of all. It’s just crazy good.

this is an extremely well written slow burn romance plus action packed Thriller.

you will be hooked from the first chapter as you get to know these characters and when a very odd presentation of seemingly unconnected people show up in the psych ward you can’t put it down as you have to know.

sink into the possibility of divine intervention, how everyone can be manipulated in one way or another.

this book opens the possibilities in your brain of things that seem Paranormal but are presented in such a way that makes you stop and think about what is going on around you in the real world.

fantastically done can’t wait to read another by this author.

This book is very intriguing and suspenseful! I am glad I picked up this book as this author is new to me. Neve, who works at a local hospital as a therapist returns to work after being stabbed. Things get a little crazy when the patients on the unit start acting strange and they need Neve to help them for what may have come, an apocalypse. Cornelius O’Brien, whom also works for the hospital and with Neve wants nothing to help and is also want to do nothing but protect Neve. As the story unfolds, there are a patient that ends up in a coma and targets on Neve and Cornelius. This story has twists and turns with suspense and a little romance. Very highly recommended.

This book had me on the edge of my seat. It opens up with Neve coming back to work and she is thrown for a loop. The word building and the emotions in this book are powerful. Just when you think that you have it all figured out, the author throws a wrench and everything goes in a different direction and things come at you when you least expect it. The main character has a good and steady growth, and it doesn’t feel like its drawn out. I enjoyed this book and I cant wait to read book 2!

Fall to PiecesFall to Pieces by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Alexandra Danvers is a Homicide Detective in Philadelphia where she has a close circle of friends and a job she lives for, but that is all she has, her job, past events have shattered her and she is just about holding herself together, the problem is that others have seen it too and that is where Detective Xavier Knight comes into things, he is someone who investigates officers fitness for duty, but because of the need to move around a lot, he has no friends, family, or ties in any place and now his next assignment is Detective Danvers.

As Xavier heads into work for the start of his latest investigation, he is thinking that the man sat in front of him has no idea what he is doing as an officer, that he is more adept at being a politician, however, today, he is going to introduce Xavier to his new partner, Alexandra Danvers, but it is the attitude of his superior which irks him. The way that Danvers is described is as a sub standard cop with a chip on her shoulder, but her record says otherwise and when they are introduced and immediately sent out on a case, he can see why. It is the murder of a child and Xavier sees a whole new side to Danvers as she deals with the scene and the aftermath, however as the two investigate the crime, Alexandra is convinced that it is someone called Arthur Book, but nobody else believes her, apart from Xavier.

When things don’t go quite to plan, the two partners agree to start their own investigation on the side, they both know the who, but now they just need to figure out how to prove it before things turn deadly, or a known killer walks free. This is a thrillingly fast paced story with more questions than answers and mysteries that run deep into the lives of those surrounding the tragedy, while trust is gained, lives are lost and games are played throughout in this race against time.

What a nice ending to the series. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I am saddened to see this series end. I loved the series and all the amazing stories. In here we finally have Oz get his story. He has been the savior and helper for the brothers and now who is going to help save him?

I loved seeing all the brothers and their significant others showing up off and on during this one. We meet some newish characters who are developed nicely.

Overall this is a good story. Not my favorite of the series but still nice in its finality.

Dead Sound (Things Unseen, #1)Dead Sound by Anise Eden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow what a book. It was a gripping read from the first page. There are so many elements to this story that work together to create a read that you don’t want to put down. I love how this story is a psychological  Thriller which contains elements such as a group warning about a coming apocalypse and links to government.
You are left questioning throughout the story whether the people who are claiming things about this are really being serious or are they mentally ill and suffering with delusions.

Neve is a Psychotherapist.  She returns to her job after being stabbed by a patient and no matter how ready she feels nothing can prepare her for what she sees. On her first day she is surrounded by patients. They treat her like a goddess and start to worship her but why?
The story develops where the patients believe that Neve is the key to stopping this apocalypse if only she would listen. To try and sort fact from fiction Neve starts to investigate the claims with her friend Dr Con O’Brien.
As the pair start to learn secrets about this case things get really weird as the hospital becomes a very dangerous place and they don’t know who they can trust.
Will they uncover the truth before the targets on their back become to big? And will they believe the truth when they find it?
This story will keep you gripped and questioning everything and every character.

4.5 Stars

Dead Sound is the first book in the Things Unseen series by Anise Eden.
Psychotherapist Neve Keane though the worst was behind her as she embarked on her first day back at work after recovering from a stabbing attack. But things take an unexpected and somewhat sinister turn when she is mobbed within minutes of entering her workplace. Things proceed to get even more worrying when it’s revealed that she’s needed to help prevent an impending apocalypse. Are they crazy? Neve soon finds herself embroiled in a dangerous mystery, where history collides with the present and conspiracies are rife. With politics, sinister intent, and a ticking clock- this romantic suspense takes an intense turn in this edge of your seat race against time.
This psychological thriller had me avidly reading, right from the start, trying to figure out what was going, leaving my mind whirling with several possible scenarios, and wondering just how things would play out.
I will definitely be keeping my eye out for Book #2! Can’t wait!
Happy reading!

Thank you, Anise Eden!

Please do not read these out of order or you will be confused and might miss out on a really good series. Drama, desperation, intrigue, chemistry, action and tension take the stage in this third installment. Stefano and Emiliana have been in love with each other practically their whole lives. Stefano has fought so many times in different ways for Emiliana. She wants a relationship with Stefano but at what cost? His family is against the match and her PTSD doesn’t allow her to fully trust. The character development was really good and gave me details I was craving from the previous two novels. This story being twists and turns that have you scratching your head and asking where that came from. It keeps you on the edge of your seat turning page after page until you have gotten every last drop from this book. I can honestly say I am looking forward to book 4.

This novel began with a little more of a kick than book one. I love how the author pulls you right into the drama, danger and intrigue. I loved Enzo and Sofia they truly were a match made in well not heaven but definitely a match. One issue I had with this novel was the missing details. I came away feeling like I read only half a story. That said the story line was really great just needed a few more details to really flush it out. I am excited to move on to book three with the hopes maybe I will find the missing details.

While this story began a little slow I eventually got to the point where I couldn’t put it down. I loved both Max and Liliana. They are such angsty, strong characters who drive this story. All the characters in this tale are well fleshed out and complex even the secondary characters. The dangers that come bring these two closer together and boy does it get steamy. The chemistry is off the charts. This book has villains, heroes, awesome friendships and obvious matches for upcoming novels. Truly a good read!!

Born in Darkness (Mafia Elite #3)Born in Darkness by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book three in the series and I loved it. I was excited to get Stefano and Emiliana’s story.
Stefano’s dad is a mob boss and monster, plain and simple and the life that Stefano has had to live is heartbreaking. For years he has tried to hide his feelings for Emiliana for fear that his father would try to use her against him.
Emiliana has had a traumatic experience that has left her with nightmares. There is only one person that makes her feel safe and also has her heart, Stefano. I will say that Emiliana is a very strong and determined woman, she has the desire to fight and protect herself.

Things take a scary twist and Emiliana ends up in Stefano’s care. Will he be able to protect her from danger? And what will happen when her brother finds out about their relationship?

Overall I really enjoyed this book . All of the characters added a great element to the family. It was great seeing some from earlier books, like one big family. Loved the ladies. We get some steamy moments, thrilling, scary and so much more. The author does a great job with her writing and I can’t wait to read more from her and the series. 1-click and get started today.

Born in Darkness (Mafia Elite #3)Born in Darkness by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Stefano and Emiliana took my breath away. They were that forbidden love that was soo strong, and truly a couple you held hope would end up being together. Stefano was an underboss and Emiliana a gorgeous Mafia Princess. Each felt the other was the one, but they lived in dark worlds that kept them apart. They have fought for too long to continue without the other, and thus the story truly begins. The journey they go through to be together is emotional, suspenseful, and full of darkness.

This series continues to leave me wanting more at the end of each book. It is absolutely suspenseful and amazing, and soo difficult to put down. We now reach book 3, and its just as enrapturing as the first 2 books. Talk about a story told well!

The more books I read by this author, the more I love her. Stefano Rossi wants to take the power from his father, who is a danger to the Five Families. As he secretly gets ready to take over, Emiliana Vitale is attacked. There is a rat somewhere in their midst, but who is it? Can they find them and take them out before anyone else is hurt?
The action doesn’t stop, and there is danger around every corner. I was sucked in from the first page and couldn’t stop reading till the end. This is the third book in the series and could be a stand-alone, the author gives enough background that you don’t have to read the others. But, why wouldn’t you want to go back and read the other books.

The 3rd book in the series is about Stefano and Emiliana which captivated me from the beginning. Each of them has suffered in the past Stefano by his father’s hands and Emiliana when she was kidnapped and tortured by human traffickers. These experiences have made both of them stronger because of it. As with the other books in this series, I love reading about each couple and finding out how or when they knew they found the one. You can feel the love between Stefano and Emiliana in the careful way they have shown each other how they feel as teens and even now that they are adults.

I have read many books by this author but I think this series is my favorite. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Yet another fabulous mafia book by what is quickly becoming one of my favorite favorite authors. As with the previous two installments in this series this author gives us fantastic characters, a mysterious and thrilling plot, and of course a sizzling romance. Our main characters in this story are the sexy Stefano Rossi and the beautiful Emiliana Vitale, they have been dancing around their romance for quite some time, but can they finally be together now that it’s time for Stefano to take over? Before we can find out there is a snitch to deal with, but this author loses no time in keeping her readers in her story with mystery of who can or can’t be trusted. Full of action, angst, twists, mystery, and romance this book will grab you from the beginning and won’t let go until the end.

Born in Darkness (Mafia Elite #3)Born in Darkness by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Born in Darkness is the third book in the Mafia Elite series. I’ve been really enjoying this series so far, as well as other books by the same author such as the Gray Ghost series, so I was really excited to read it!
The Mafia Elite series centres around the Italian-American Mafia, in particular the young adults who are coming of age and finding their place in their dangerous but glamorous world. There are power struggles, deception and plenty of action!
Born in Darkness focuses on Emiliana and Stefano, who we’ve gotten to know in earlier books. Emiliana is great – she’s a keen cook and strong fighter, particularly when using knives. She’s still haunted by past traumas, but with her brother’s help has channelled this into training so she can defend herself. She does, however, continue to experience PTSD, particularly as it becomes clear that she’s still not entirely safe.
This is a real page-turner, with readers being given enough clues to try and figure out for ourselves who might be leaking information to those trying to harm Emiliana and her friends. There’s never a dull moment! And it’s fun catching up with the couples we’ve gotten to know in earlier books – Max and Lil, and Enzo and Sofia.
This is another five-star read for me! I would definitely advise readers to start at the beginning of the series, with No Way Out. I’d recommend it to fans of action-packed romance!

Another addictive story from this author. Right from the start, the story had me totally invested. The story has forbidden love, action, high stakes, and two main characters that are so easy to root for. The back stories for both main characters were so sad. Experiencing Emiliana’s trauma and her determination to move past it was heart wrenching. Stefano is a sweat baby Angel, but his father is another story altogether. Each character was well written, and the series just gets better with each book. I love, love, loved this love story, and am excited for the next! Also, this time I made much better use of the character glossary at the start, so didn’t have to try and remember who everyone was from the last two novels. Definitely recommend reading books from this author.

WOW! WOW! WOW!!! This is Stefano and Emiliana’s story. Put together by this amazing author. This being the third book in this series. Just goes to say she has so much more to offer. But! Before you start this one, make sure to read the first two. Here is a Mafia Romance that should not take place. But the heart wants what it wants. I found myself intrigued by this book. I could not turn the pages fast enough. It’s filled with Romance, Suspense, Action and even Mafia politics. Your heart will be broken and healed in one book. The characters are strong and play along with the author’s mind. Emiliana is a strong woman, and nothing can stop her. Stefano knows what he needs to get done. So if I stop here you get no spoilers. I just think you should give this series and this author a go. You won’t be disappointed. Now I have to wait for the next in this series.

Dead Sound by Anise Eden – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Dead Sound (Things Unseen, #1)Dead Sound by Anise Eden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Neve Keane is anxious to return to her job as Psychotherapist at the hospital after being stabbed by a patient. After weeks off work for healing and recovery both mentally and physically, she feels that she’s ready to return to work. She is unprepared when instead of a quiet office, she gets mobbed by a group of people on her first day back. She stands helpless in the hallway as they surround her chanting her name and telling her that they need her to help them stop the Apocalypse. After her recent stabbing, Neve is rattled by this turn of events and not sure how to react. She is still suffering from the side effects of the stabbing and the reaction from this group of people has her reliving the memory of her attack. She’s visibly shaken but does not want to lead on that she is frightened because her coworkers might feel that she is not ready to return to work and may try to make her go home. She does not want to go back home and finds it better to be at work where she can hopefully keep her mind busy and not be so bored.

As it turns out, the leader of the crowd turns out to be one of Neve’s patients, so she is familiar with him. He is also a patient of her friend and co-worker Con. Neither Con nor Neve have seen a violent side to the patient, and both have a good rapport with him. Neve feels it necessary to hear her patient out to get a better understanding of the situation at hand and work towards a possible solution. After explaining his visions to her, Neve agrees to help him against her better judgment. After she hears what he has to say she can’t deny that there must be something more to it. If nothing else, she intends to just find out one way or the other. What Neve does not expect to happen is to find a secret plot that involves government officials that goes all the way up to the White House. Now Neve and Con are fighting for their lives as they attempt to stop the end of the world from happening.

This book was very well written and had a storyline that kept me reading to find out what happened next. It moved at a good pace and had a story that involved crime, corruption, evil and a bit of romance all in one. I was curious how far up the chain things went and who all was involved. Was there anyone Neve and Con could trust? Would anyone believe them when they told them what deadly secrets and sinister plots they had uncovered? Would Neve and Con would be successful or would evil win out in the end?

Fall to Pieces is a intense Mystery Suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going to happen next. Once I started there was no putting it down. I pretty much tuned everything around me out and focused on this story. This is a fairly new author to me and I look forward to reading her other books. Detective Lexi works for a department that is working against her but that’s not stopping her from trying to bring a child killer to justice. She’s partnered with Detective Xavier who is there to determine if she’s truly capable of doing her job but things turn a bit intense. These two team up to solve the case while putting their lives in extreme jeopardy. As they go along they realize there’s more to the relationship . This story is packed with action mystery, secrets and much more. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can tell you, you won’t be disappointed I sure wasn’t.

As a survivor of sex trafficking, all Emiliana wants to do is get on with her life and move forward with the only man she has ever wanted, Stefano. Stefano is the son of a ruthless mafia boss and wants to get out from under his thumb. With attempts on Emiliana and her friends, and Stefano’s dad wanting him away from Emiliana, they must figure out what is going on and who is responsible.
Opinion
This is a great series. I would highly suggest you start at book one and work your way through. The series is dark and covers topics that may make the faint of heart squirm. However, the way the story is written is fabulous and intriguing. The author has a back and forth between past and present day where the characters are remembering what had happened. This, above all else, shows the steady interest of Emiliana and Stefano to each other. I highly recommend this book.
