No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Tracy Wilkin

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out is book one in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. Every time is like the first time of ever picking up a book when I read a story by this author. That first feeling of awe, wonder and total contentment as you have found the thing that makes you the most happiest in life. A beautifully written story. I have not felt that discovery of love for books since my first memory of reading. To recapture that rapturous feeling was unexpected but very welcome. Now to the story. There is nothing better than being kept on the knife’s edge with a good mafia romance. This author demonstrates acute imagination and gives the characters depth, immense strength and and more personality that a person may be able to cope with. I get lost in these amazing characters. Totally immersed in the journey. And blissfully content while lost in Max and Liliana.

No Way Out was anxiety riddled, dramatic, fast paced, dangerous, arousing and irresistible. Amy McKinley rose above even my wildest expectations and ruined me for other stories of this trope. I am totally owned by each characters and what they portray. A stunning beginning to a series I have no doubt will be unforgettable. 5 stars.

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance (Mafia Elite Book 1) by Amy McKinley is romance suspense book that you will love

Amy McKinley’s USA Today Bestselling novel Secrets, Arranged Marriage, and Redemption is an action-packed mafia romance about secrets, arranged marriage, and redemption. Max’s goal is simple: reclaim what is rightly his and hold those who have mistreated him accountable. Max infiltrates a crucial wing of the Chicago Mafia as assassin Matteo Trambino to rescue his Sicilian mentor’s granddaughter, Liliana, from her deadly father. When they finally meet face to face, he understands he’ll never be able to walk away.

Liliana Brambilla, born into one of the Cosa Nostra’s most powerful families, is a pawn in her father’s power grab, unable to escape until he frees her. The only way out is to exchange one jail for another, namely her father’s choice of marriage. Her confidence is shaky when her father appoints a new bodyguard. He’s her adversary, she believes. Max is, in fact, her rescuer.

I loved this story and the concept of it as well.I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the fifth book from this author that I have read and I can’t wait to read more.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Ashley Dover

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Linda Burson’s Marcy Series starts off wonderfully with these three books. The intriguing story of a woman who loves two men at the same time seems totally absurd. How Marcy handles this among the other revelations in her life is somewhat amazing! These books are truly books that you need to have on your TBR list.

Marcy is the owner of the Coffee, Tea, and Treats bakery in Cold Spring Harbor. In Rage, readers learn of Marcy’s rage that she has used several times to get her out of jams. Unfortunately, it also makes things difficult for her longtime boyfriend, Brad. She eventually starts seeing a psychiatrist who helps her find the cause of her rage. In the meantime, Brad has big plans which lead to an engagement. Only this engagement last only a few days. After Brad breaks up with her, Marcy turns to her friend Liam for a trip out of town which leads to her falling in love with a second guy.

In book 2, Confusion, Marcy decides that she can’t handle relationships with both men. Unfortunately, the situation is not so easily managed, and she soon realizes that one of her men has been leading her with his behavior and his actions. She realizes love often means being able to give up what you most desire to have that person be happy.

In book 3, Agony and Ecstasy, Marcy’s life turns upside down once again as the best-laid plans in life aren’t always what happens. Where does Marcy find love and happiness in her life? And at what cost does this actually happen?

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amy McKinley is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors!

Liliana is a mafia princess. Her father mistreats her and is using her as a pawn to retain power. When she is issued a new bodyguard she will remind everyone that she is not a gentle flower that can’t handle herself. But, when she finds herself in quite the predicament…is her bodyguard trustworthy or is he just another one of her dad’s pawns?

Max is enlisted by Liliana’s grandfather to protect her while also having his own agenda to take care of. But, when he meets Lil…he finds himself attracted to the kick-ass princess. But, as it always is with the Chicago mafia…there are secrets, hidden agendas, violence, and mafia politics at play. Can he get Lil to trust him enough to see that he is there to help her? Or have years of suffering at her father’s hands hardened her to believing anyone is on her side?

I loved this story. I am a huge fan of McKinley…so add in a mafia element and I was in. But this story just blew me away. Liliana is a strong heroine that could go toe-to-toe with Max and hold her own. Another great book my Amy McKinley!

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Lauren Schnoebelen

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ever since returning home from finishing college, the freedom Liliana felt has quickly disappeared before her eyes. She might be a Mafia princess but inside her father’s home she is nothing more than another pawn in his ever growing quest towards power. When a series of attacks on the family’s warehouses causes her father to bring in a hitman from Sicily, her only hope is that maybe he’ll be different from dozens of guards around the house she can’t trust. When all she wants is a possible ally, Liliana might be in for more than she expected because Max has come with his own agenda and none of the Mafia bosses will be safe.

Idk what it is but I keep wanting to like mafia fiction, especially mafia romances, but they always seem to fall a bit flat for me. I really enjoyed the beginning where Max is assigned as Liliana’s bodyguard and the tension that builds from there. Liliana’s perspective was probably my favorite but honestly I think it might have been because her two friends were the characters I enjoyed reading about the most. The incorporation of arranged marriage was a trope I haven’t read from before and honestly I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I provided for a lot more variety in the story line and caused a number of fun twists. The steamy scenes were decent but kind of a let down for me. There was a point in the very beginning when Liliana held a knife to Max’s throat when they first met to make sure he knew she wasn’t helpless. When she did this, he made a comment about it being hot or kinking or something like that so it made me think cool, we have that kink going and I haven’t read that before so this could be really fun. Sadly, that wasn’t the case though the first couple of scenes were pretty good. I don’t see myself reading further in this series. I appreciated that there weren’t any miscommunication tropes in this book which is pretty common in a lot of romance and the big conflict had to do with the drama surrounding Mafia politics rather than the couple which I really appreciated. Not sure if I’ll read anything from this author in the future but I wouldn’t say I’d say turn something down that piqued my interest.

Intense from page 1, the book grabbed me by hand and never let go. I found the action to be intriguing and breath defying. Amy is out for revenge. She’s trying to deal with an unspeakable action. You can watch her grow into a better person as the story goes along. Her work with DAG is impressive. The characters are all well-developed. The plot comes together and meshes well. It is a very good read and well worth the purchase. Highly recommend

A book about Mafia secrets, arranged marriages, and complications. Liliana and her two best friends are mafia princesses. Liliana means more to her father as a pawn then she does as his daughter. Max infiltrates Liliana’s fathers’ empire as a hired hitman to help protect Liliana, but will she trust him? Max and Liliana feel sparks as soon as their eyes meet.
The danger is real, Liliana gets kidnapped, and Max calls a commission, the Sicilian’s are on their way. The outcome is not guaranteed. The secrets that come out, took my breath away, took me by surprise, and had me furiously turning pages to find out what was going to happen.
I have enjoyed books by Amy McKinley before and she did not disappoint. Am looking forward to Book 2 next month!!

Unsettled Scores is the second book in the DAG Team series. It can be read as a standalone, but I feel like it would be better experienced if you’ve read the first book as some of the story line overlaps.
Good read – full of romance and suspense that will keep you interested. There are some questions that are left open so there’s room for more story line in another book.
Overall, not a bad way to spend a few hours in book land.

4 Stars!!!!

I have read a lot from this author and once again I was not let down. I really find the way that this author writes to be engaging and was totally hooked from the get go. The characters are very believable. I found them to be realistic and relatable.

I really like the chemistry between Max and Liliana to be so heated. I like the way that story plays out. I like the cloak and dagger by Max and how the romance unfolds. I like how they in a way both save each other. I cannot wait to read more from this author and this series.

Do you want a book that grips you, and doesn’t let go even though how hard you fight to get away? Then my friends, you have found the right book to read, no doubt! This quickly became a favorite for me. No lies here, the author is one of my personal favorites, she writes such good novels, I always come back for more, this one was worth the wait though for sure! It literally blew me away countless times while reading!

Where should I start? There is so much I could tell, and want to tell, but you should truly experience this book for yourself. Let me start with Liliana who is our female lead in this gripping read. She brought on her own saucy spice and made the perfect mixture for love and temptation through out this novel. She does not have an easy life being the daughter of the head of the Mafia. She is undervalued by her father through out the book, she feels she can gain respect if she does a marriage to his pleasing. Is her happiness to be sacrificed really worth to win her fathers love? Perhaps there was more unknown to the story of what she truly wants than she lets on?

I loved the character Max. He was your hot and very sexy character, that literally brought on the lust with every word he spoke. He has been assigned a job to do, and at first glance it seems to be an very easy job, but that proves otherwise into the matter. To silence the head of the Mafia is one thing, but throw in the beautiful and amazing Liliana and basically all shit can and will hit the roof!

Max and Liliana really made my kindle sweat with anticipation and chemistry, Not to forget the steam and sexiness’ these two brought when they shared a scene together they were remarkable characters in every which way and form. The suspense they had face together, plus the fact of trying to avoid not to rip each others clothes off for the greatest passion ever to be experienced, there was so much more going on aside from that as well. The book literally had me hooked all the way through.

I LOVED this book so very much! It was an amazing read from start to finish, and I am still left wanting more by the end. It was a must read, and that is certainly a true fact and n questions asked. This was so good, it had everything I needed and wanted in the novel and more. I would expect nothing less than what I got from this amazing author I have come to love and admire so much. Wonderful read truly!

This is a story that kept me guessing. I loved meeting Amy! What an amazing character! She really impresses me with her wit, knowledge and quick thinking. She is an asset to the team and her family. Hugh is just completely adorable! I wanted to hug him and run my hands through his curly locks. The sparks were between them since their first meeting and only grew as time went along.

The team are a slew of smart, quick thinking characters. I enjoyed meeting them and their special skills. I have questions that need answers about them.

This is the second book in the series but it is my first book by this author. I had no problems following along as everything is easily explained. I look forward to more.

Caine (Men of Syn Book 2) by Anise Storm – Review by Alexandra Leith

Caine (Men of Syn Book 2)Caine by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caine is book two of the Men of Syn Series. It can be read as a standalone but I suggest reading Hawke (book one) first because it is amazing and it would help explain some things that could be a little confusing from book two if the reader hadn’t read book one yet.

I was so excited to read Caine because I loved Hawke and it did not disappoint! It is a romantic suspense just like book one but the storyline of the suspense is different. Caine is on the run from Washington DC because he has been accused of murdering his father and Emery loses her princess lifestyle that was provided by her father because he got caught up in a scandal. Both are just trying to survive and they end up finding eachother.

I was the most intrigued with seeing Emery grow into herself. She was pretty shallow and in some ways sheltered from the “real world” because her dad never let her want for anything. However, when the real world came barging into her life and ripped everything away from her she was able to grow into an amazing lead character.

The only downside is that for a book revolving around a BDSM club there isn’t many BDSM scenes. There is steam for sure but not really as much as you’d expect.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out is the first book in Amy McKinley’s Mafia Elite series. I’ve really enjoyed reading some of McKinley’s other books – the action romance series Gray Ghost and the romantic Moonlit Destination series – so was excited about a new series to get into!
No Way Out is an action-packed page-turner from the word go. Max has been set a dangerous mission, and one that speaks to his own troubled past. He has to maintain his new identity to get close to his target, and avoid attracting too much attention. McKinley treats us to plenty of details along the way, whilst keeping some twists to drop later in the book.
As usual in McKinley’s writing, we have a fantastic heroine in Liliana. Although often in need of a bit of rescuing, McKinley’s heroines always hold their own and bring something unique to the table. Liliana has much to come to terms with about her family and Max is well placed to help her if she can trust him, but understandably she is very careful about where she places her trust.
I’ve not read much mafia fiction previously, so this was a great insight into the world. If you’ve enjoyed McKinley’s other action romances, or are a fan of mafia romance, this is definitely worth a read!
This book gets five stars from me. I can’t wait to read more of the series when they come out.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great start to the series. I love Mafia romances and this one is definately a great one. The story was easy to read. Some Mafia stories can get confusing with the different families  but the author makes the families easy to follow. Liliana is an amazing character. I love her fighting spirit and how strong and determined she is to save herself. Max is your typical alpha who is out to regain what was taken away from him by destroying the people in his way and protecting the people he loves.

Liliana is the daughter of the Mafia boss Benito. Even though she looks and acts like a proper Mafia princess the reality is much different. All she is to her father is a possession, something he can use to get what he wants out of life. Liliana  is desperate to leave and get out from under her father’s rule but her only hope is to change one guilded  cage for another by marrying someone her father chooses.

Max has been sent in undercover by Liliana’s grandfather. His mission is to get Liliana away from her father and keep her safe. Hopefully taking down her dad’s drug business in the process so that he can regain what should be rightfully his. What Max didn’t expect was to fall for the Mafia princess. Now he had a problem can he keep his cool and stop himself from showing his feelings while at the same time protecting her from danger? Or will his cover be blown resulting in putting himself and Lilian in danger.

Unsettled Scores is book two in the DAG Team series by Kel O’Connor. This story was high in just about every dramatic emotion you could possibly feel while reading a book. Stunning intensity, thrilling danger, passionate liaisons are just the beginning. These characters possessed strength, courage, determination, energy and heart. This story packed all the adventure you could handle in a romantic and suspenseful story. Amy is a character that I really want to be when I grow up. She brought an enviable tenacity that was incredibly entertaining. Hugh I loved learning about. So far from a stereotype, it isn’t even funny. Over all, this story was a pleasure to read, giving never ending mystery and excitement. Every emotion in overdrive, and I could not get enough. A thrilling story by a very descriptive and talented author. 4 stars.

‘No Way Out’ by Amy McKinley is the perfect balance of adult romantic heat and action-packed Mafia suspense. McKinley did an excellent job creating characters that were exciting, unique, and easy to sympathize with. I loved how the relationship between Max and Liliana develops, and how they build trust in each other to overcome some very dangerous challenges. I will also add that the ‘adult’ scenes are very well written. If you enjoy or have been wanting to try out the romantic suspense genre, this book is perfect.

This was an amazing book! A lot of times Mafia books feel like the “love” between characters is only primal desire or really seems like it was forced *not sexually*. But Amy McKinley doesn’t force anything to happen. She lets us and Max and Lil get to know each other.

No Way Out set the bar really high for the rest of this series. Following Max who knows family and has morals showing Lil small snippets of his life like the pizza, gives her a sense of what she could eventually have. Of course him keeping her safe is a given, but oh man, McKinley loves to give us scares! It is a wonderful book!

Max left for dead is out for blood in Amy McKinley’s No Way Out. Planning to use Lilianna as his pawn to complete his plans. This Chicago mafia romance is exciting and unexpected. Well written in it’s own right, it tells the story of Max’s rise to take his place as the boss of the Chicago Caruso family and the means of which were granted by the original families in Sicily.
Though a work of fiction it’s very real in the sense of the ideal workings of some mafia/cartels today. It’s about power and growing that power that unfortunately leads to loveless marriages. You can learn a lot just from this fictional overview Amy McKinley created in No Way Out. You can’t ever just leave, you will always be a liability to turn if you do so.
In saying that, I loved the dynamic between Lilianna & Max, though unexpectedly they loved fiercely and worked well together as a unit. Told through both points of view you don’t miss a bit of the action, keeping one of the edge of their seat to what will happen next. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Mafia Elite series!

Another great read by Amy McKinley! The first book in her Mafia Elite series, the book is a bit slower of a start than the other books that I have read by her, but by the end I was hooked and excited to read more of the series!

Max has been tasked with protecting his mentor’s granddaughter Liliana, the daughter of a Chicago Mafia crime boss. Liliana is sceptical of the new bodyguard at first, but through a series of actions that he takes is able to begin to trust him. Does her father find out his secret motive in working him, or is he able to fulfill his mentors wishes, all the while falling for the girl he has been assigned to protect? You won’t know unless you read!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The first book in The North Shore Crew series, Ride for Me by Vi Summers has you hooked from the very first chapter! The book started out a bit confusing due to the prologue being set four months in the future, but as the book continues everything slowly started to make sense and made me want to keep reading it more and more.

The perfect ‘opposites attract’ friends to lovers story, Lil and Gage have both dealt with heartache and loss, making an interesting spin on the story. There were definitely times that I was tempted to yell at my phone as I was reading it, getting frustrated with the men in the story. If you read it, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

This was my first read by Vi Summers, but certainly won’t be my last! I am excited to eventually read the other books in this series.

Have you ever had that feeling that has you doubting deep down that you are where you should be, whether that be physically, mentally, or emotionally? Our main female character Liliana ‘Lil,’ feels that way every single day. Trapped in what might as well be a prison of a home, with her father that literally just regards her as property, she struggles through the losses she’s experienced, and with the knowledge that her future isn’t her own, rather, will be decided without her best interests at heart.

Enter our hero, Max, under the guise of being a hitman for the families within the Mafia, who believes he has learnt all the information he needs to be able to complete the mission that was assigned to him by none other than Liliana Brambilla’s grandfather, Vincenzo. That mission, my friends, is to protect Lil at all costs. Little does Max know, he has bitten off more than he can chew, but loves every bite, nonetheless.

As was the case with other novels by Amy McKinley, I couldn’t put this down. It was a change of pace from the past few I have read from her, and the second Mafia novel I’ve indulged in, and I have to say, this one really did it for me. It had more twists and turns than I was expecting, and in turn, had me staying up way past my bedtime, not only to read, but to maybe entice the events in the novel to inspire my dreams, and the emotional waves I experienced, from goosebumps, to laughter, was everything I was expecting from her, and more. So very much looking forward to the next installment in the Mafia Elite series. Highly recommend!

I felt a sense of kinship with Amy while having no sense of relatability to her character, which only made each page more intense. As the end neared, I was rooting for my version of a happy ending but the storyline was well written and nothing was given away. I cannot wait for additional books and further DAG character development.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Katie Matthews

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a way to kick of a new series! I love this author there’s no denying it so I was really excited when I saw this new release from her and wow what an amazing read! I was hooked from beginning to end. I love mafia romance and this was the perfect example of that genre! Action, tension, angst, romance – this book had it all and more! I LOVED Max – oh my gosh he was totally swoon worthy! Liliana really surprised me actually, I didn’t expect her to be so strong but she was amazing! She held her own when she needed to. I absolutely loved both of them together and their story was so exciting to read! I can’t wait for more from this author!

Unsettled Scores (DAG Team Series Book 2) by Kel O’Connor – Review by Rayne East

Unsettled Scores (DAG Team #2)Unsettled Scores by Kel O’Connor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Romance, crime and revenge
Book 2 of the DAG series and it just gets better and better. Loved Amy and Hugh’s stories and their relationship. Amy is a strong FMC, who knows what she wants. Straight up I connected with her. Hugh is adorable and has a strength all of his own. The DAG team are brilliant and I can’t wait to find out more about each of them. Some unfinished business leaves the door wide open for book 3. An excellently written book that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
