It starts with an odd text, “The first thing we do, let’s kill all lawyers! Starting with you!”, thinking it is nothing but a bad joke lawyer Donovan Trait brushes it off. Soon after Trait finds himself in a hospital bed recovering from a stab wound that should have killed him. Trait has a secret though….he is a vampire and not that easy to kill. Even after being stabbed Trait does not really think there is much of a threat, that is until another attempt is made on his life. Now Trait is faking his demise in order to try to discover what is happening. Soon others in the legal field are murdered as well. Why is this happening? Who wants him dead? Why kill the others? Are those he cares about being targeted as well?

This is the first book I have read by Kay. I enjoyed the characters and can’t wait to see what comes next! I would recommend this book.

The street drug “Kronilan” is over running the streets, so much so that the FBI and DEA have agents in place. DEA agents Grant Rourke and Josh McKenzie are working to try to solve the mystery of where its coming from and who is at the root of distribution. This drug has also led to members of the community trying to help users realize they have other options. Soon these advocates start displaying signs of being users themselves, some with deadly consequences.
Anne is one such advocate, the fiancee of an ex- DEA agent, an agent who use to partner one of the agents in charge, Rourke, making the case even more personal. Will Anne get the help she needs? Will Grant and Josh solve the case before more people or injured or worse?

This is the first book by Hammond that I picked up and I have to say it is worth the read. The characters were well developed. The story line was easy to follow, flowed well, and pulled you into the story. The story was also very realistic and believable. I truly enjoyed the book and can’t wait to see what comes next from Haymond.

Just because you make it home from the battlefield does not mean the war is over. While this particular solider may be fiction his story is just one example of the horrors and struggles one with PTSD may face. Patchen brings this story to life in a way that makes your heart strings pull, your eyes water, and has your mind struggling to process. In the story, Sgt. JP Grimm has physically returned from war, but in many ways he is still in that desert. Grimm struggles to mentally. He plays what if, if I had done this differently, self loathes, struggles with survivors guilt as well as adapting back to home life. One moment he is home then with one sound, shadow, movement, he is right back in the war. The struggles faced as a result of his PTSD affect more than himself. It influences relationships with family, friends and himself. Self medicating is just one of the ways Grimm attempts to cope. Will he get the help and support he needs? Or just me another example of the glaring lack of support faced?

Hands down this story is worth reading. It is a well thought out, realistic glimpse into just one of the many common contributors to PTSD. The thought provoking story line that puts you through the ringer. Patchen did an amazing job bringing the characters to life. While it did take me a moment to get into the story once I was in, I was in. This book brings more light to the issues many people still face today.

Out on the trails Jake the Growling dog is off on another adventure. This time when Neet and him explore the trail they find tracks they have never seen before and that scares them. Later Jake continues trying to discover what created the tracks. Jake makes new friends along the way learning things he didn’t know before.

As with the other books in the series, this story is well written and well illustrated. I would say the story is appropriate for all elementary school aged children. I personally think the entire series would make a good class story time book. It really opens the door to conversations with the kids. Love this series, worth the read.

Jake the growling dog is back with an all new adventure; he is off to daycare. Jake does not know what daycare is which makes him nervous. His best friend, Neet the squirrel, tries to help and ends up going along. Jake quickly learns he had nothing to fear, and makes new friends quickly.

This story is the 2nd in the series. The story and illustrations are well done and this story is really appropriate for the whole range of elementary aged kids. I would give this whole series a read!

Jake the Growling Dog is an animal character-based story that teaches about individual differences, acceptance, kindness, and friendship. Jake the dog is a growler. He growls all the time not just when he is mad or scared. The others don’t understand this at least not at first. As the story continues he and the others learn to accept differences, be kind, as well as form friendships.

The story is well written and illustrated. The book could considered appropriate for a wider age group. The illustrations are well done so a child on the younger end could easily make up their own story, a pre-k to 1st grade range would benefit from this being a family time or class story time book and for kids who are reading on their own this would be a good book for him to practice with.

Oliver is just another book in the list of hits by Wickstrom. This book was a cute and simply way to explain different reasons adoptions take place as well as a few of the feelings an adopted child may experience. It tells them everyone not just adopted child at different points in life have the same feelings. This book normalized adoption in a way that would make sense to a young child. I would absolutely take the opportunity to read as well as share this book.

This was a wonderful addition to the Mermaid Science series. Maia, Fig, and Trezzie are back with a new project- an ice cube necklace. During this adventure the kids learn about ice and water as well as how the two can different effects when the temperature changes. You even learn one way to help someone that is drowning.

This is just one of the books from this series I have read with my niece and nephew. They loved it as usual and got them asking questions, which I love. The story was well written. I do; however, feel this particular story was geared more to 1st to 3rd grade aged kids not just pre-k and kindergarten aged kids. The illustrations are excellent and make the story come to life for the kids. I would absolutely recommend this book.

Always second best, Dwarf is use to being left or passed over for the tall, more classically handsome guys in the club. Raven is haunted by a horrid past. After a chance meeting, will the two find their happily ever after?

This was the first book by Manda Mellet that I have read. I did not except anything but a good, typical MC story; however I was presently surprised by the slight paranormal vibe that I got. I found the whole story to be well written as well, so much so, that I actually couldn’t put it down and finished it all in one sitting. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series. While I wait for the rest of the series, I will definitely be checking out other books by Mellet.

When Dr. Jodie’s lab catches fire and she losses her job, she heads to the estate she gained from her grandfather. However once there things just get stranger. The existence of werewolves, missing children are just some of the issues she faces. What will come of these new discoveries? Will she find the answers she seeks?

I genuinely enjoyed this book and cant wait to read the rest of the series. I did struggle a little with the characters at times if felt like too much info was given and at others you wished there was more. Overall though the characters and the world itself were well developed. I also loved that there was such a scientific/ medical view that was an angle you don’t see often but I enjoyed immensely.

It’s just an Apocalypse !?! Dahlia is once again working to protect the innocent but this time it might just be too much to bear. Half of her time is missing, she is trying to prevent the apocalypse, and still has to figure out how to repair the Veil between worlds. Will she be able to come up with a solution in time? Will Dahlia be able to prevent the apocalypse? Will she survive it?

I was quickly drawn in and completely absorbed in this story. I didn’t put it down. This the final installment to this series was action packed. I would recommend giving it a read!

After surviving the events in the previous book Dahlia is back to her old ways, playing protector. As the number of “other” beings/ monsters continues to grow Dahlia has to wonder will she be enough?

Another Dahlia Nite story and its just as good as the others. I have absolutely loved this series, I would recommend reading them in order though. The depth of the characters, how they interact, and where their relationship comes from are all built throughout the series. I also love how while there is a main issue within each story there is also an arch tying them all together. I can’t wait to read the next book!

I read this with my kindergarten aged niece and nephew and they absolutely loved it. The story taught them how to keep trying and never give up. The Mind-Reading Hat is another hit with the kids, they can’t wait for the next!

Gage offers them a place to stay while they figure out their next step. There is attraction among all three of them. Where will the attraction lead? Will Gage find his HEA with one or both? What about Ten and Juliet Will the three be able to create a relationship from attraction? Will everyone end up with their happily every after or will it end in disaster?

I really enjoyed this book. It was a first by Kells for me but I will definitely be reading more. The characters are well built, had a good story line. It is worth a read.

The-Know-It-All-Pencil is a cute, engaging, short story. Caspian’s unbirthday always starts with a unique gift from his grandpa. This year’s gift is a pencil that gives clues and a pad of paper to write them on. The adventure that Caspian goes on helps him meet many different people, teaches him about helping others, paying it forward, as well as interesting facts he didn’t know before.

This well written story is easy to follow and engaging. The art work is also beautifully done. I would recommend for kids around the ages of three to low elementary.

They are attracted to each other but will that be enough to create a relationship?. All of her sisters had a rare flower bud when they met their star-mates. Would one bud for her and Arkon? Can each come to terms with their past?

This was the first book by Calla Zae for me, but it wont be the last. I really enjoyed the world and characters she built. The story is well written and easy to follow. I also had a hard time putting it down. I would recommend giving this book a read. I know I will be going back to read the rest of the series as I unintentionally started at the end.

Have you ever thought your job is easier than mine? Well, your not the only one. In this story, a group of gods feel the same. In this case, they feel Cupid’s job is easier; so much so, they make a bet. Cupid on the other hand feels his arrows and love matching have been completely underappreciated. First up is Mother Nature. Making two people fall into true love is not as easy as she thinks. Will there be a true love match? Who will win?

This book was a great introduction to this new series by C.A. King. It was well written with a unique take. I loved most of the characters and can’t wait to see what comes next. I would recommend reading this book.

I read this book with my niece and nephew (kindergarten and first grade aged). They both both excited to see the different different experiments which they had to try. The youngest loved the pictures even adding to the story on her own in a way only little kids can. My nephew was a little harder sale. He loved doing the experiments and even like the story but he is in a question phase. He wanted to know how the kids knew about mermaids, how they became friends etc. Since this book is part of a series we will be checking out the first book next to hopefully answer his questions and find more experiments the kids enjoy. I struggled a little with who was who in the story it was not obvious in the beginning; even with that being said I would absolutely recommend this book. It was fun and engaging for the kids, the illustrations were colorful and well done.

Murder, a frame job, and amateur detectives sounds intriguing, right? Out on a run, Ruby finds the body of a murdered cast mate. When suspection on her, she and another cast mate set out to solve the truth of who really did it.
This was a quick enjoyable read. While I was slightly confused in the beginning it, felt like I was missing some of the background information (found out this is a spin off series.) The story was unique and well written. The characters are well built. I loved how Ruby used her skill set to work on solving the mystery like the song she uses to remember the clues as they find them. I would suggest giving this book a read.

I absolutely loved the writing style of this book. The characters were well defined, I could imagine them in our world. The scenery of the book was excellent as well. I recommend the book. Cant wait to see what comes next.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Howl. Overall, I enjoyed the book. There were a few of the major background facts that I wish would have been given more of a back story not that it detracts from the story I just thought it would add to it. I loved the story and I would recommend it; however, if you are like be and hate when a story it broken down into multiple pieces be warned. Even know that now that I have read the first part I cant wait for the second part to come out.

While this is the first book of Ms. McKinley’s I have read, I look forward to reading more. I was told this book could be read as a stand alone, and it can be; I would read the series in order as I think it would help in keeping a clear picture of who everyone is. Definitely worth a read!

Sadness and madness, the curse of La Llorona, also known as the weeping woman, is the plague of a small New Mexican town. Mercy is a young woman who is determined not to fall as the women before her have. Will she succeed? Will she stumble?

Weep, Woman, Weep was a quick enjoyable read. It did take me a moment to really get into the story, at first, I found it a little difficult to follow. I did quickly adjust to the writing style and found myself sucked into it the story and unable to put the book down. The struggles Mercy talks about as well as experiences are relatable, as well as thought provoking. The struggle to be happy and succeed, not let the bad moments keep you down is something anyone is something anyone can at the very least understand, many having experiences it in there own lives. While I think this story could be even better if it was expanded into a longer novel and had the time to go into more depth, I did feel it was worth the time it took to read.

Ever meet that person you could really see yourself in a relationship with, but it is just horrible timing? For Sophie and Guillaume that certainly seems to be the case. The two fight their attraction while wanting more since they are working together. Needing a break, Sophie travels with Guillaume to his family’s home. Will Sophie find the break she is looking for? Will Sophie and Guillaume act on there feelings toward each other?

This is the first book by Katy Hunter that I have read. While I had a hard time emerging myself into the story in the beginning, that quickly changed and I enjoyed the book. The characters were relatable; there were times you want to laugh with them, cry with them, even shake some sense into them. What more could you ask for? I look forward to reading more by Hunter and would recommend reading this book.

This is the first book by C.H. Sessums that I have read. The Killer Jack Mystery is the second book in the JD Pierson Case Files series. As I, for the most part, did not feel lost or confuse would say this story can be read as a stand alone. This not my go to genre, but I can say, I was not disappointed and will be going back to read the first and then the rest of this series. The story was well written and the characters were engaging. I recommend giving this book a read.

A gumball, that’s right a gumball is all it took for Lockwood’s world to be set on its side. The book has love, humor, good guys, bad guys, shifters, fae, a sea witch, an oracle and a bit of suspense mixed with a whole lot of humor. As Lockwood and Rex’s relationship is explored there were a few places in the book where it took me a minute to realize there had been a small jump in time, but it in no way distracts from the story. With each facing their own set of challenges will they be able to overcome them and get their happily ever after? This was the first book by Naomi Valkyrie that I have read but I will definitely be reading more and hoping to see more of this world. I absolutely recommend.

Will it create issues between Francis and his MC, the Grimm Wolves? Will Francis and Grace get there happily ever after?
I can not wait to see what comes next for the members of Grimm Wolves. I would recommend giving this book a read!

While at a craft fair she meets Bryce, who asks her out but she turns him down. After running into each other again Bryce is still interested and asks again. She turns him down. After some misunderstandings are cleared up the two begin spending time together. They each have their own issues that they must work through. Will Gina and Bryce be able to overcome their issues and find their happily ever after?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While it is the third in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. I loved that the characters had depth and felt like someone you might know in your own life. The relationships between the sisters is amazing to see. While this is the first book in the series I have read I can’t wait to go back and read the previous while I wait to see what comes next. Totally worth the read!

Exiled South by Harriet Cannon is a well written, touching story of Lizbeth Gordon trying to move forward. The story begins with Lizbeth losing her husband and soon after discovering truths that her husband had kept hidden from her. Needing to get away from it all, she quits her job, puts her application in with The International School Educator, a publication of oversea postings, and then the moves from the Pacific Northwest back home to South Carolina. Once she is home she takes time to mourn, then starts to put her life back together. Family stories and local history is something Lizbeth grew up listening to. As she is returning to herself she becomes more interested in digging into her family history. She continues to do this even after she accepts a job posting in Rio. As the stories of her family’s history become clear, Lizbeth seeks out information on the missing branches. Throughout this whole experience she is coming back to herself, starting a new career, rebuilding family bridges, and finding love again.
I truly enjoyed this story and would recommend reading it. I would note that there is a short rape scene that may be a trigger for some. I believe that you would be able to skip the pages detailing it and be able to continue the story though. I loved the way so many emotions and life experiences are written into the story. The heritage and generational stories, good and bad, that are found and passed on to Lizbeth on her journey. I enjoyed the way some of the stories were written as though you were reading it directly from the ancestor’s point of view This journey is a second chance to understand and accept her heritage, find lost family and develop new relationships.
