Before you read this book know this!!!! This is book 4 in Calla Zaes series Soldiers of Saedo. I being silly didn’t catch that. All in all still an amazing book! Loved the female lead and loved how her story bloomed! Perfectly balanced and a great book to cozy up and read. I can’t say for certain if I was missing anything due to starting not at the start but I am going to go back and read full series in order! All in all was well written and easy to enjoy!!

Vanessa, seemingly broken from a failed disastrous marriage on earth, her ex husband in jail; is rescued and agrees to go to Saedon with her sisters.
Saedon is full of exotic things Vanessa enjoys unfolding as a cook and despite her crazy previously life she finds some enjoyment in her cooking.
In enters Arkon and she immediately feels a connection. He was on the team that rescued her; but when they meet formally, the sparks fly… among other things going flying (haha)
.Can she let go of all the devalument she was forced to feel and see herself the way he does?
And what of the new feelings and sensations on this planet… is there more? Is there evil intentions on this planet…. why the heck are worms attacking???
This is a pretty good Romance. A little more development of these two characters Romance and it would have been 5 stars. 4.5/5

I truly and thoroughly enjoyed this book! I could not put it down!! It was a little bit of danger, mystery, and a whole lot of love! I gave this book 4 stars because I wanted more! The author did an awesome job of describing the characters, the places and emotions that the characters were feeling at the time. Vanessa and Arkon, the book’s main characters have an electrifying relationship from the very start. I won’t go into too much detail because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone! This book is definitely a must read! I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and she has me intrigued. The plot and characters where different but in a great way.
They have both been hurt before will they let their guard down and look to the future or will they keep looking backwards to their past? Vanessa just wants a calm life with her sisters after getting out of a bad marriage on Earth from her ex-husband Travis. Living in the Province of Saedo on planet Celeron, Vanessa is a Chef and she has found an abundance of herbs she can use in her dishes. Arkon, is one of the soldiers that saved Vanessa from her Ex. He is a skilled soldier who prefers numbers, charts, and anything with absoluteness. He finds himself attractive to Vanessa but he isn’t sure how to handle her. He is a rule follower and Vanessa is a rule breaker…. Can these two overcome the obstacles in their way? Will they have a happily ever after?

An Alien Storm is the fourth book in the Soldiers of Saedo series by Calla Zae. I have read and enjoyed a few of Calla Zae’s books now, and I’ve noticed that she has a knack for storytelling that encompasses a lot of different tropes- but this is the first sci-fi romance of hers that I have read. As I always seem to find myself doing without realising, I have started this series a little backwards, as this is the fourth book in the series. Even though this book is well into the series, I was still able to read this as a standalone without any real issues. But having said that, I suspect there is an overarching back story that threads through the series, and maybe some recurring characters too- so I will definitely be going back to explore the rest of the series to discover what has happened previously, before continuing on with any new instalments. This is a new author to me and I have not read the previous books, but figured out each book is dedicated to a sister! In this book, the story is around Vanessa and an alien she meets Arkon. Vanessa has a divorce after a traumatic marriage on Earth. When the soldiers rescue her and her sisters in Saedo, she decides to go to Saedo as there is nothing left on Earth. She meets Arkon, and sparks fly. But Can Vanessa get over her traumatic past and go closer to Arkon? That is the crux of the story. It is a sweet romance and sci-fi fiction. I would like to go back and read the other books.

The story follows Harry, who over has gone by many names over many years, and his adventures. I will start by saying that although the first book is not necessary to follow along but makes book two significantly more enjoyable. With that being said, I had a much harder time getting into boom two but having read the first book, I knew it would get better and answers to my questions would be resolved. I enjoyed learning more about Harry and his past lives. The author did a really nice job seamlessly blending the past with the current time while also building wonderful character development. I found myself missing the same people Harry was and wondering what happened to them. We also continue to find out how Tristan is doing and his budding romance with Elena. My favorite interactions will always be with Tristan and Harry. I’m excited to read the third book.
This is the second book in the series by this author I have read, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. I thought this book provided the reader more of the story of the main character, especially his past and what got him to where he is at today. I love her sci-fi writing style and her amazing depiction of the experiences going on in that place and time. This book brought me more emotion than the first book which I honestly was not prepared for, but it was all needed to help with the story arc. She did a great job. I would highly recommend that you read these books in order instead of reading this one first. It will benefit you in understanding how and what you are reading about. Very good read.
Another great book!!!! I am a glut for good alien romance (ask my poor husband) and this did. not. disappoint! I adore Vanessa (and her family!) and Arkon is yumminess personified. I love that Vanessa is a chef and it’s so magical to read about all the treats and foods she can create. Arkon is adorable in his pursuit of Vanessa and I love his protective side. This was a fantastic book and y’all should know I’m about to read the rest of the authors work!

This is a great book and a welcome.addition to the series. I really enjoyed Vanessa and Akron. They were easy to read about characters and then connection felt real. They clearly got along and they romance fit with the overall story. I thought the book had a good mix if sci-fi and romance. The two worked well together and made the story interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next.

This story was just as interesting as the first! I definitely recommend reading them in order. It picks up where with left off and follows Harry through different times. You also get to find out what happens with Tristan after Harry goes into stasis. This one pulls at the heart strings like the first one did! This really is a very interesting science fiction read!

I was really into this book. Do I want to live on a weird alien planet with super attractive men? Yes I do. Do I care if they are green? Not at all. Vanessa and Arkon are good together, she had ended a terrible marriage, and he has trust issues with women after his last girlfriend. They are both complete opposites which makes them perfect together. I was happy to see how Arkon was willing to show Vanessa his love and patience for her, and that he would in no way be like her ex husband. Vanessa is tough, after what she went through she learned to be a fighter and when the squirmurs come she readily takes up a gun and fights. This planet is fun and I really look forward to the next book. I also really liked in the beginning, the picture of the universe and where the different planets are laid out.

Dystopian adventure with a cliffhanger This story draws you in, spins you around and leaves you hanging. Brilliant writing and world building. Zombie virus with a twist and an unlikely MC in Baron. He is a very complex character with a mysterious background and who is thrust into a viscous cycle of survival with immortals. I really enjoyed this book. Interested in seeing where this series goes.

This is an interesting take on a zombie apocalypse! I’m all for dystopian reads! I was not a fan of Thalia in the beginning but she does grow on you. Baron has a good heart and you just want to help him as much as possible. When they have to work together things get tense and interesting. Be prepared about halfway through the story you will want to keep reading as things really start to pick up. Definitely looking forward to book 2!

If you love sci-fi & romance, you will love this one. Vanessa is from Earth and still suffers anxiety from an abusive relationship although she is now on a different planet entirely. Arkon is a star being and one of the aliens who rescued her. Their chemistry and their pasts make them so relatable. I enjoyed the plot, and now I want to read the entire series.

Baron, a wildman who is used to a fight or flight life, enters a town one day because his bike needed repairs. While in town, he notices a zombie and his survival instincts kick in. In doing so it triggers a domino effect and a strange man steps in to fight with Baron. Baron ends up killing the man whose name was Mickey.
Once Baron comes to, he realizes that he is being held prisoner by the woman that was with the man he had murdered. The town fell with very few survivors from the zombie plague. Turns out the woman, named Thalia, was an immortal immune to the zombie plague. She was part of a group called the ARK that was basically like a zombie resistance group. Mickey had been her protector and Baron was now to take up the role.
Baron used to being a loner has a hard time trusting Thalia meanwhile she doesn’t trust the murderer. Thalia is stubborn and gets into a lot of trouble bringing Baron down with her.
This book was really interesting to read. The author took the classic zombie apocalypse genre and gave it their own unique spin of things. I could not put it down. I loved the characters and watching them grow into their own. I can’t wait to read the next instalment!

I have read this author before and could not wait to see what she has brought us with a new series. I was not disappointed. This is a dystopian zombie book unlike any I have read before. The zombies themselves are different. I won’t say any more other than there is much more to them. But what really makes this book are the characters. Baron is wonderful as a main character. He is not someone you would normally think of as a main character, but he pulls it off wonderfully. Then there is Thailia. She is complicated. You’re not sure if you like her or not, but you understand. It is interesting to learn more and more about her as the book goes on.
This is all set in a world of survival in a time when everything as we know it has collapsed. They are making the best of it as they can, while some really are striving to make the world a better place for the future. Question is, are they doing it the right way?

Enter Science Fiction into a story about a “being” who has long periods of stasis and changes form every times he comes out of stasis and learning new things like language inter species communication. Follow an evolving society while Harry sleeps in stasis as humans continue to progress. I enjoyed Harry got to come back to Tristan but I was annoyed with Elena’s response to finding a talking bug…big…. its a talking bug and you want to take a nap?!?Who does that?
Elena inevitably gets pulled into a crazy adventure with Harry and is far more accepting of what he is, even if Harry & Tristan do not fully understand.
All in all a good science fiction/fantasy. I admit I did not read book 1 that would probably have filled in the gaps for me.

What would you do if you woke up one day and the undead had come to life? That’s right folks, ZOMBIES!
This incredible book follows Baron as he tries to survive this new world without dying or becoming part of the undead. From the beginning, he finds himself in one heck of a predicament. While driving through a small little town, he notices a beautiful woman as he searches for a repair shop for his bike. He soon learns that this woman is part of a small traveling caravan of scientists. She wears a thick gold collar around her neck which means she is an Atheling and is immortal. One of the locals helps Baron understand what this really means. For starters, she cannot die, yet she keeps a silver collared man, known as a Gin close by to help protect her should she ever need the extra help. Soon Baron finds himself in the middle of a town brawl and unfortunately he inadvertently kills this woman’s Gin. As penance, the Atheling captures and imprisons Baron immediately after the fight, forcing him to don a silver collar and become her new Gin. She expects him to immediately abide by her wishes while helping her and her team live through another day. Can they save the world from the infestation of zombies and stay on track with the ARK’s beliefs and overall goals?
I really enjoyed how the author put her fresh and unique spin on the zombie apocalypse virus story. It keeps you intrigued from start to finish.
I found the book to be very well written which allowed this to be a quick paced read that I thoroughly enjoyed. This book was entertaining and filled with a lot of twists and turns. I loved the characters, the world the author created and a plot that could easily become a huge success.
I’m curious to see what the author has in store for the Ark and this storyline in the near future.

A Fulfilling five-star read. This is number one in the Dead world book series, and I am so excited to hear more from the world. The world building is great, and so much deeper and more complex than you expect from a zombie story, there was a true storyline as well and I am so excited to see where this great author will take us next. Baron will keep you hooked, he and the other characters all tell you a sublime story. There is action and drama a plenty in this story, each page just adds to the drama and hooks you harder. I cant wait for the rest of the series.

An enjoyable and engaging dystopian, sci-fi, story which kept me hooked from start to finish. The novel is set in an apocalyptic world filled with zombies, following a devastating plague, and where civilisation and humanity ended years ago. However, some have managed to survive and adapt to this new world, and one of those is skilled survivalist and wild man Baron. When his instincts lead him to killing a strange man, Baron finds himself imprisoned by a stranger women, Thalia. Thalia is a child of immortals, and she may hold the answers to ending the vicious cycle, as long as they can work together and survive the next outbreak. The setting and characters are brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative, which made me feel immersed in the storyline. The characters are all intriguing in their own right, and Baron and Thalia are particularly great characters and I like the dynamic between them. This is not my usual genre, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it, and I look forward to book two.

This was book 4 of the soldiers of Saedo series. Even though this was the fourth book, and I had not yet read the first three, I still was able to easily read the story and not feel like I was missing anything. That being said, I will definitely be going back and grabbing the first 3. The FMC is a chef that finds herself on an alien planets after a horrible break up. Her HEA is a very work driven alien who can’t seem to stay away. The shorty story is only 13 chapters but is very entertaining.

So I love a good zombie movie, when I read The Prisoner of the Dead I was captured. I couldn’t put it down. It kept me interested which left me wanting more. I love the world that the author created. The characters are perfect and the zombie virus outbreak is so well written. Definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian/apocalyptic books.

The Prisoner of the Dead is the first book in the Dead World series by the ever talented Megan Mackie. I never bother reading the blurb to any of Ms. Mackie‘s books before rushing to one-click myself a copy, because I already know that whatever it is I will LOVE it. And this book was no exception- hello zombie apocalypse among dystopian themes- with action, thrills, mystery, dramatic developments, immortals, fantastic worldbuilding, survival, plague outbreak, zombies vs humans, and so much more I can’t possibly list it all here without spoiling the story for you. As expected from Ms. Mackie she didn’t just write another ‘zombie’ story- she has cleverly given the zombie apocalypse trope a good shake up by adding her own original spin to it- and thereby breathing fresh ‘life’ into the genre (pun intended 😊). I shouldn’t be surprised- but she really does amaze me each and every time she releases a new story- as she always manages to weave in the unexpected, keeping me glued to the pages full of anticipation at what is or might happen. A completely engrossing start to an exciting new series…. I really can’t wait to see where we go from here! Highly recommended! Happy Reading!

This is another fantastic book by an author who has quickly cemented herself as one of my favourites. I loved the whole idea of this storyline and how exciting it felt. The writing had me hooked from the moment I started reading. This is such a unique take on a zombie apocalypse. I loved how different it was and how fresh it all felt. Each book I read by this author is distinctive and original. It really makes it so exciting to read her stories. This is clearly the start of amother great series and I cannot wait to read the next one.

James Chambers’ The Black Box gives fans of science fiction, adventure, war and politics all wrapped into this one story. With a variety of characters and a close look into a world deeply impacted by alien invasion, everyone comes together to protect themselves within their own span of existence.
Author does an excellent job keeping his audience engaged with each passing moment of the story as different characters’ perspectives are brought to light. Each group of characters endure different aspects of this invasion’s consequences and must cope with their duties and integrity. Many of them deal with the many harsh realities that in essence we all must face within our lifetime, such as heartache, disappointment, betrayal, secrecy, etc. As the readers, we can relate with the many stories within as each of the characters endure their own personal battles. I enjoyed reading into the different stories to come with one’s own interpretation of the dealings of this amazing read!

Sarah scouted the shore for a place to land. The next nearest scrap of earth on Nellus lay 660 miles away across a world 98 percent covered by ocean. She banked the glider and eyed a sandy strip fringed by vine-draped trees and elephantine leaves. Cutting altitude until spray kicked up, she fired her braking thrusters then skimmed her glider’s belly across the surface to slow her approach. The glider lurched sideways. Sarah wrestled it on course, skipping from wave crest to wave crest. She nosed down, plunging the glider beneath the fluid’s skin. The sharp drop in speed pitched her forward, knocking her helmet against the cockpit glass. Caught by the undertow, her glider jerked sideways into shallow waters, then spun and skidded up the beach, furrowing sand until it stopped hard against a thick wall of entwined tree trunks. The glider’s systems malfunctioned and winked out. The echo of the crash rang in Sarah’s ears. When the shock faded, she punched the cockpit release, lifted the glass, and spilled out onto the soft sand. Wrestling her feet under her, she stood, surveyed her landing, and found the glider’s frame crumpled beyond repair. (A Beach On Nellus)
The sight of the Black Box fulfilled one of Piotr Atwatunde’s lifelong desires. No longer need he wonder if humanity alone occupied the universe, for here before his eyes floated an object singular in all of human history and proof of sentient life superior to that found on Earth. Seen firsthand, it defied Dr. Armitage’s description as a “black box.” Though its cubic dimensions suggested the shape, its skin appeared light-deflective rather than black. Seen in the close, direct glare of their helmet-mounted lamps, it displayed a dull, shimmering magenta hue. (The Black Box)
Vox Astra: The Black Box (Vox Astra Book #1) by James Chambers is a great little collection of short sci-fi stories. This original collection offers interesting, and sometimes, thought-provoking tales with a range of elements, from military, politics, hard choices, space travel, aliens, first contact, new worlds, warring factions, AI’s, invasion, drama, mysteriousness, and plenty more.
I really enjoyed exploring this collection- and particularly liked how original and intriguing this collection was. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what Mr. Chambers does next. Happy reading!
