Accountability (Scope of Practice #3)Accountability by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third book in this series. I loved it from beginning to end. I highly suggest reading all the books in this series, they are really great. This is a well developed story that has twists and turns that left me turning pages fast. The characters made the story not only easy to read but also made it feel realistic. Valerie’s past is about to come crashing into the present with just one phone call. Life as she knows it, is about to change. As things get more messed up, she doesn’t know who to trust and trusting is getting less and less. She is out to hold Dr. Chad Ross accountable for his actions against her. Will things stay the same or will they see the changes coming? I loved Valerie’s character as I felt bad for her in parts and she has no one to trust as friends became less. She is strong and made the story for me. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Accountability (Scope of Practice Book 3)
By Jessica Aiken-Hall
5 out of 5 stars

The book Accountability (Scope of Practice Book 3) by Jessica Aiken-Hall is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. The series is one that I have enjoyed reading since the first book. The story is suspenseful and had me turning pages to find out what happens next. Valerie Williamson Phillips is a young woman who has always been affected by her past. Valerie is a woman who when she sets her mind to a course of action, is determined to see it through. Will the bonds between Valerie and those she loves be strong enough to endure all the changes to come? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. Valerie is a very complex character. She is strong, independent, and cares about others. She also has a sense of justice. There are also many other characters that I enjoyed reading about the part that they play in the story. Some of them are ones that have been brought forward in each of the three books in the series. The author does a wonderful job of bringing to life both the storyline and the characters. This is a series that should be read in order as each one builds on the next. Don’t miss out on the next story in an intriguing series that you will not soon forget. I highly recommend it.

Confidentiality (Scope of Practice Book 2) by Jessica Aiken-Hall – Review by Naomi McDonald

ConfidentialityConfidentiality by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Confidentiality is the second book in the Scope of Practice series. You need to read the first book in order to get the full picture of what is happening in book two.

In the first book, I related to some of the main character’s attributes, but there is a side of her that I don’t relate to so much. That part of her life started in book one but is further explored in book two as things start spiraling. I found myself wondering how I could relate to a character’s personal attributes so much, but not align with her actions, even though I understand her motivation for it initially. The author has done a great job of layering the main character to give her complexity.

I enjoyed the anti-hero aspects of the story as well. Even though I had it figured out pretty quickly, I thought the choice was interesting.

Overall, this was a great continuation of the first part of the story in book one. As with book one, sensitive readers should note that there are potential triggers in this story.

After finishing the first book in this series I was eagerly awaiting the second and was so glad I didn’t have to wait long! I completely devoured this book in one sitting and was on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I didn’t know what to expect after book 1 but I can honestly say that the authors writing continued to be amazing throughout the second book too. I was looking forward to see how Val was doing in her life and how she was doing with her dream of normality but I should have known to expect some great twists and turns and my gosh there were definitely plenty of those in this gripping story!
The story was full of action and a storyline that kept me guessing throughout! A fantastic second novel in this series and one that I highly recommend! This is definitely an author I am going to be looking out for!!

Confidentiality (Scope of Practice Book 2) by Jessica Aiken-Hall. Boundaries was the first book I had read by this author but she has become one of my favorites! This book was just as good if not better than the first. Its the continuing story of Valerie Williamson who is a social worker dealing with trauma from her past. She has gotten so much better and is not isolating herself from everyone and even has a fiance named Tim. She is planning her wedding and enjoying life again until she finds out there is a serial killer on the loose. Tim is busy investigating these murders and trying to put the killer behind bars. Will the news of a serial killer out there bring back all of Valerie’s old insecurities and will she fall into her old behaviors? Will Tim find out who the killer is before its too late? Be forewarned when you start this book you will not want to put it down. It is a great edge of your seat read! Do yourself a favor and read it today!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I would like to start by saying that I LOVE LOVE LOVE a book that leaves me guessing the ENTIRE time and actually surprises me. I read a lot of crime novels and there is nothing worse than knowing “whodunnit” on page 5 and being right the entire book. Jessica Aiken Hall did an amazing job with that in Confidentiality (Scope of Practice Book 2). You are left guessing and if you think you have it figured out, you are very likely wrong. Valerie’s life is finally coming together. She has great friends, a great fiance, her support group is going amazingly…all until a serial killer pops up. Her need to protect will put her in danger. Will she figure out what is going on and how it is all tied together? Jessica Aiken Hall does a great job sensitively touching on difficult subjects and also writing in some great banter with Val and her fiance Tim. All in all, I highly recommend this book.

Boundaries (Scope of Practice, #1)Boundaries by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Boundaries (Scope of Practice Book 1) By Jessica Aiken-Hall is a book that will suck any reader who likes a good mystery right in. I thought that the story line was great. It could have built up a little bit quicker, but at the same time, I would be afraid something else would have gotten lost if it did. My favorite thing about this book is definitely how relatable the main character, Valarie is. (For me at least) She is anti-social, but she is still out there in the world doing what she needs to do and even investigating a murder! The relationship that the author shows between Valarie and the detective she works with is also great. All in all, this book is definitely worth reading. It it hard to say too much without giving away too much, and it is so interesting to learn about Valerie’s past as you go. Definitely part of the intrigue. I would highly recommend this as a 5 star read!

Boundaries (Scope of Practice, #1)Boundaries by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Boundaries is the first book in the Scope of Practice series. The main story line wraps up, but the ending does leave room for more in the following book.

The way the main character, Valerie is described at the beginning of the book made me relate to her almost immediately. The way she keeps to herself, doesn’t like the unknown, can’t seem to keep up with time, and her feeling of being awkward are all things that I can relate to very much.

The way the author has written the story, you don’t know Valerie’s past right away. Because I related to her so much in the beginning, I had to keep reading to find out what her story was.

Boundaries is full of mystery and intrigue. At times it can be heavy on the emotions. And, there are some interesting twists that keep you turning the pages.

Overall, a good read. I look forward to seeing where Valerie’s journey takes her in the next book.

Note for sensitive readers – there are potential triggers in this book.

The mystery continues

Confidentiality by Jessica Aiken-Hall is a great continuation of her first book, Boundaries. You really must read the first one before this one.

There are so many interesting characters and situations in this series, you will want to keep reading to see what happens. Valarie (Val) Williamson and her trauma group has opened up life in a way Val never expected. Not only do they seem to have a lot in common but their bond gets stronger as they learn to support and trust one another. Add in Val’s hunk of a boyfriend Tim, the detective, and you have the perfect cast of characters to keep things interesting.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this mystery series.

Confidentiality is the 2nd Scope of Practice book by Jessica Aiken-Hall. It picks up right where Boundaries left off. It cannot be read as a stand alone, as it is a continuation of the story. This book was very well written, even if I did figure it out about halfway through. I still like the characters and the theme of the book. It is told from Val’s point of view and I like that it shares her thoughts and feelings, struggles, and love for her family and friends. Val has always kept to herself, shielding herself from being hurt. But now she is surrounded by close friends, has her Gram and her son back in her lift, and is engaged to Tim. There is now a serial killer in town, and Tim is investigating. But Val isn’t scared, but wants to find out who the killer is. There are too many connections, and she thinks she has figured it out. She was close, but not quite there. I don’t want to give it away, but I think this book (and series) is worth reading. I hope there is a 3rd book, because I want to know what happens next!

I loved the first book in this series (Boundaries) and this one was just as good!! Valerie has really come a long way since we first met her. She has friends now and her fiance Tim. I love Valerie and Tim’s relationship and I just want to see them happy. This book had me hooked from the start and I had a hard time putting it down. Tim is investigating a serial killer and there are some undeniable coincidences that Valerie is noticing. The author did an exceptional job weaving a suspenseful story and kept me guessing who could be doing this. I loved reading this book and I cannot wait to read the next one. Confidentiality (Scope of Practice Book 2) by Jessica Aiken-Hall, is like a mystery story told in segments. Its hard to hear the stories of these girls without being sympathetic. Especially if you are a survivor of domestic abuse. I know I planned at least a hundred murders in the 20 years of my bondage. Because bondage it is. The ongoing introspection of Val echoes some of my own. Its hard, really hard not to want her vigilante justice. The darker rooms of our mind will go there. I guess that’s what books are for. That other world. This is a good book to read even if you have never been a victim. A little insight into what makes us tick it does a body good.

Confidentiality is book 2 in the Scope of Practice series by Jessica Aiken-Hall.
This is a continuation of book 1, so if you haven’t read it you definitely need to go back and start with the first book “Boundaries”. As with most collections I enjoy the books more and more and they go on and I get to know the characters better, this was no exception.

The story starts back with Valerie, her past is no longer a secret and I loved seeing her relationship with Tim continue to grow. Her days of isolation are becoming a memory and she has a chance at living the life she craves.
Of course, all is not rosy. The story takes a dark turn as a serial killer is on the loose. Tim and Valerie are tested as the mystery deepens.
I really enjoyed this next instalment. The story is fast paced, and obviously dark at times. There is some light relief along the way though, and some surprises thrown in to keep you guessing. I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to book 3.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having been hooked whilst reading ‘Boundaries’, the first book in Aiken-Hall’s new series, ‘Scope of Practice’, I was looking forward to this second novel, ‘Confidentiality’ and I was not disappointed. The storyline continues with Valerie Williamson who works at Lawrenceville Regional Hospital as a deceased patient coordinator, and with Valerie’s past now no longer a secret things are looking up for her. The novel can be read as a standalone story, however if read in order then you will have a better understanding of Valerie’s backstory. Valerie and her detective fiancé Tim are now planning their wedding and Valerie is no longer feeling isolated although her past trauma still effects her. Just as she believes she can have a ‘normal’ life a series killer targets Lawerenceville. As Tim is busy investigating the case Valerie believes the connection that links the murders can not be a mere coincidence and begins her own detective work to figure it out before the killer has opportunity to strike again.
This novel has a fast paced storyline with plenty of suspense, mystery, action, and great characters. I was pleased to be back with main character Valerie who is a very realistic character and one who you can relate to and I liked how her relationship with Tim developed further during this novel. Although the book does deal with difficult and dark issues it is dealt with honestly and with sensitivity. The narrative also has plenty of humour along with the drama. I was hooked from page one and found myself completely immersed in the story. I hope there will be further books in this series.

This is the second book in the series from this author, where we once again meet Valerie Williamson, who is planning her wedding. After all, all she wants is a normal life, and her past still haunts her, but she is ready to revisit some of the people she thought she she would never be able to have in her life again.

Val also continues with her group where she forms a deeper connection with her group members and has a strong compulsion to safeguard them all.
However, there are a lot of lies and secrets that are getting out of control, with a serial killer on the loose.
Her fiancé Tim, is busy trying to find the one responsible for the murders . Although, Valerie is now wondering if the connection between the murders is more than a coincidence…..

I really enjoyed this book, and again loved how the author made this fast paced. It was full of action, was full of suspense and could not put it down as soon as I picked up the book. Would highly recommend.

Confidentiality (Scope of Practice Book 2) by Jessica Aiken-Hall is a dark, gripping and intriguing read. This one picks up not too long after the first book left off, so you need to read book 1, Boundaries first. Like the first book it is a very emotive and suspenseful story where events eventuate that you did not see coming. Jessica has given us a deeper and darker web of secrets and lies, mystery and murder and deeper bonds between those who came together out of tragedy. She has given us something that will have your heart pumping, and everything hidden until the end.

This is the second book that includes the continuation of Boundaries (book 1). Valerie still works at the hospital and does her support group. There is a serial killer who is loose in her town. She can’t seem to keep her mind off who would do such a thing (you know besides her). We see more from her relationship with Tim and the women. I liked the story and finished it fairly quickly. This one seemed to flow well. The characters have nice movement forward. I just can’t connect with them even in this one. I did like the relationship between Tim and Gabe.

This author has quickly moved her way up my favorites list, I loved Boundaries and was just praying there would be more to come and I was given that in spades. Holy Mackerel was I on the wrong track…I was trying to think like an author that was trying to completely throw off all suspicion and anyone thinking they knew what was going on and I completely missed the boat LOL Well played!! I don’t know how I was so far off the mark but I was and honestly did not know for sure who was behind what was going on till the last few pages! I LOVE when this happens!!

I could not put this book down till the end, literally when I couldn’t read I was text to speeching it, which is another thing I loved so much is that it worked well with my text to speech.

I love love love Valerie, she is someone we have watched come so far since the first pages of Boundaries, and is one of those kind of people maybe I shouldn’t understand or maybe even like, but her take action attitude and why she wants to take those actions are definitely something i’m sure many can relate to.

Her and Tim are so so so amazing together and I can’t wait to read more of these two and hope their future is what they both hope it will be. I love the friendships that are portrayed in this story and just loved the whole book period.

“ a story for another day” will have me waiting not so patiently for the next in this series. I’m kinda scared of what is to come, but also can’t wait.

You absolutely must read these both to get the full effect of this whole journey.

LOVED IT!!

Confidentiality is the second book in the Scope of Practice series by Jessica Aiken-Hall. This is another intriguing and suspenseful story which follows on from books one- full of all the gripping developments, drama, mystery, emotion, and dark twisty details that I have come to expect from Ms. Hall. But, lets face it, she had me at the mere mention of serial killer in the blurb.
Valerie Williamson (Val) seems to have come such a long way since we met her in book one. Her life is going so well- things to look forward to, and as such she is intent on protecting her new-found happiness. But with secrets, lies, and a serial killer in the mix- thing soon take a gripping turn. Val is convinced there is a connection to the murders, and is intent on uncovering the truth, but will she put herself in danger in the process? This is well worth the read to find out!

Thank you, Jessica Aiken-Hall!

This is book 2 in the Scope of Practice series and wow what a book. I would recommend reading the first book before this one as the characters stories carry on from the first one.

Val is still working at the hospital running her support group for woman who suffer from trauma. Hearing the womens stories is hard and when the abusers in question start turning up dead they start to think there is a god listening to their prayers.

When the sex offenders and the abusers turn up dead, Tim knows he has a serial killer in his hands but no clues as the who it is.

Are these killings just random or is there someone listening to the ladies wishes. Will Val be able to have the normal life she has always dreamed of?

Its a gripping story that keeps you guessing as the story twists and turns.

What a twisty, mysterious, thrilling read this was! I was intrigued by the synopsis for the story so I was looking forward to seeing how the story would play out and I have to say, although not my genre of choice, I was completely hooked by what I was reading. The story had quite a slow pace but I think that definitely helped build tension and towards what was happening in the story. The mental health aspects of the story were well written in my opinion and the authors detailed writing definitely helped me imagine what was going on. I liked that I had to get to know Valerie; she wasn’t your typical social worker. I enjoyed getting to know her as the story progressed! I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

Confidentiality is the second book in Jessica Aiken-Hall’s Scope of Practice series. You absolutely have to start with the first book Boundaries as otherwise you will have no idea what is going on, who is who and why things are happening as they are! It is a brilliant continuation of a mystery that will continue into the third story.
Valerie Williamson’s past is out in the open and everything seems perfect – her personal life is blossoming and she is getting closer to Tim who offers her more than anyone has ever offered her and she accepts it! She is forging a deeper connection with the members of the support group she leads and this connection becomes a compulsion to protect them. There are a lot of moving parts in the story that Jessica has woven and they all play their important part so do not lose sight of them! The writer is touching upon some very sensitive subjects and I commend her for that! I love the care she is taking when doing so and she goes deep … so deep it is painful … Add to the mix a string of murders that Valerie knows are connected so she puts her life into danger when she decides she needs to figure it out as she is sure they are linked to someone she cares for! The end will blow your mind and I cannot wait for the third story in the series that gives us insight into why …

I have really been enjoying the Scope of Practice books so far by Jessica Aiken-Hall. She is really good at weaving a detailed and gripping thriller that will keep you fully engrossed from the get-go until the very last page. Confidentiality is the second book in the series and I would recommend that you read the first one before diving into this one. We get a lot of background and character building in that one that carries over and enriches this story very well.

In Confidentiality we find Valarie feeling like she finally has things in order and is living a life she enjoys, although not the one she had anticipated for herself. Things take an even darker and twistier turn when a serial killer is among them. The murders seem to have some coincidental aspects but is it just that at a coincidence? I loved the different layers that are laid out for us as we read. It is not just one steady storyline and things are so well put together that it feels flawless and effortless to follow along. I am super excited to see what the next book will entail.

As Val gets more involved within her group she can’t lose the feeling that there is a connection with the murders that no one else seems to know or wants to believe, its upto Val to try and uncover who this person is and when you have secrets and lies well hidden can you help.

I loved the first book in this series and I was excited to see the relationship between Tim and Val progress and grow and it was brilliant the banter that these two characters have is a joy to read. I love the way Jessica Aiken-Hall writes about the gritty subjects with the consideration of the victim and showing this side of society. The story flowed and with twists and turn unraveling the brilliant story it was a page turner.

I feel you don’t have to read the first book to follow or appreciate the story but I think it is best if you have as you then have a better insight into the wonderful character of Valerie. I definitely recommend you read this book and get caught up in the thrilling story.
