This book was an interesting and fun read. I really enjoyed the twist it did with the issues that come up trying to find out who was killing lawyers and finding out that one of these lawyers was a vampire. Not only is he protruded as a good lawyer, top bachelor and all-around good-looking guy. This guy was very thorough on finding out who did this to him. He’s love and the romance with and for his girlfriend was so well written and passionate that I actually enjoyed reading about the steamy parts when they were together. This is a short fun read that is a must.

Ye Gods! The Law is an Ass! by Seelie Kay is an intense vampire novel that I was unable to put down! The amount of detail the author portrays is astonishing. I honestly felt like I was in the book! Donovan and his bride, Shirley, end up on the run after breaking their agreement with the Coalition. They were supposed to allow this vampire counsel to oversee their conception of their children, but Shirley ends up accidentally pregnant on her wedding day. What will this family learn along their journey for survival? The author did an amazing job with setting the moods in every different scene. The author was able to portray so much emotion without overdoing it, and I really admited her for this. I do suggest that you read book 1 of this series beforehand if you have not done so yet. It will help you love these characters even more!

The Law is an Ass! (Donovan Trait Book 2) by Seelie Kay – Review by Hailey Hop
Ye Gods! The Law Is An Ass! is the second book in the Donovan Trait series by Seelie Kay and is just as well-woven and intriguing as the first book. Seelie Kay sprinkled a little more intensity over this story but made sure to weave in some light-hearted humour to break up the tension. This is a fun paranormal romantic suspense- with vampires, lawyers, vampire politics and law, agendas, uncovering the truth, and more. And as with the first book, Ye Gods! has an original take on vampire lore. In Book One, we meet Donovan Trait (a highly respected lawyer- who is also a vampire over 300 years-old) and his lady love, Judge Shirley Magnusen. They had quite the ‘adventure’ in the first book, which also resulted in Shirley being ‘turned’. Because of this and strict vampire laws, the couple made an agreement with the Vampire Coalition (the Vampire governing body) that would allow the vampire scientists to ‘monitor’ the conception and birth of their children. But things don’t quite go according to plan- which forces Donovan and Shirley to flee. Will they find a solution to their precarious position before the powers that be force their own agenda? If you loved the first book, then you really will want to grab a copy and dive in. If you have yet to read ‘First, We Kill All the Lawyers’, then I highly recommend that you do before starting on this story. There is important backstory, character details, and key information contained in Book One, which will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book. I can’t wait to continue this series- bring on the next book!

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. Her books are well written and her use of details give her stories a realistic feel. This book is no different. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the beginning. This is the second book in this series which I highly suggest reading the first book as well to help your enjoyment of this series. The characters are connectable and make the story engaging. They are creative and unique. They bring the story to life on each page as well as keep me turning pages to the end. I read this book in one sitting as it is that great. The growth and chemistry of the characters made the story pop. This is a shorter story about vampires and finding the truth. This is a really great story that I loved the characters and the plot. I highly recommend this book and this author.

The Law is an Ass! (Donovan Trait Book 2) by Seelie Kay – Review by Jenni Bishop
In First, We Kill All the Lawyers, vampire lawyer Donovan Trait survived repeated attacks by a serial killer. Now, after violating a marital agreement with the Vampire Coalition, and several ancient Vampire Laws, Donovan, and his newly-turned vampire bride are on the run. You see, in exchange for permitting a pure-blood vampire to marry a turned human, the Traits agreed to allow vampire scientists to monitor the conception and birth of their children. When Judge Shirley Magnusen Trait turns up accidentally pregnant on her wedding day, the fury of the Coalition is unleashed. The tribunal recommends unacceptable punitive action and the Traits are forced to flee to a mysterious island of vampire nuns. The Traits are, by profession, seekers of the truth. But this time, the truth may not set them free. In fact, it could start a revolution. Will the Traits escape the clutches of the Coalition and keep their babies safe? Or will their family be…eliminated?

First, We Kill All the Lawyers (Donovan Trait Book 1) By Seelie Kay
This book was an unexpected gem. I found it to be original, full of suspense, twists and turns, vampires, and so much more. This wasn’t just another vampire story, there were so many other elements going on all while there is a serial killer trying to kill lawyers and Donovan can’t figure out the connection between the lawyers that are being murdered. Donovan is a smooth talker and a bit of a ladies man until he starts seeing Judge Shirley Magnusen. I had a hard time putting this book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next. Who would be the next victim? Would they figure out who the killer is? To find these things out you need to read this book. This isn’t the first book I have read by this author and it won’t be my last. I suggest reading this story, you won’t regret it.

So Donovan Trait is a tall dark and handsome vampire bachelor. Someone is out to kill him and a bunch of other lawyers/judges but is not doing such a great job. The killer does not know the secret way of killing vampires. Donovan falls in love with Shirley a judge that almost dies by the hands of the killer and they go in hiding for a little bit to wait it out. They end up having a long discussion of turning her so they can get married. They have to bring it to the counsel to have the final say. Who could the killer be a crazy ex lover or someone coming back with a grudge from a past trial? What do all the victims have in common? Kay knows just how to write to keep you on edge and wanting more.

There is only one way to start a vampire story. Make it Spicy! And author Seelie Kay did not disappoint in this wonderful book First, We Kill All The Lawyers (Donovan Trait Series). There is no denying Donovan Trait, one of the best lawyers in town, knows what he is doing in the courtroom and in the bedroom! He is a vampire after all, they have been around the block a time or two. 300 years to be exact. Donovan might have seen a thing or two, but never found a true love. Until now. And she is Human. If all that wasn’t enough to keep him on his toes. Why not add a killer on the loose that wants to kill all the lawyers? Donovan has his hands full after he is one of the first lawyers to be attacked. He has to keep his “life style” hidden since he can’t die from normal human things like being stabbed and shot. It’s a whirlwind of emotions and crazy ups and downs. But this book is at the top of my list. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

First of all, I LOVED this book. The main character, Donovan, is written beautifully. He is gorgeous, polite, a little cocky and sometime talks like he is from the olden days.. which being a few hundred year old vampire, makes sense.
This book has everything! Vampires, were-bears, were-lynx, romance, law, mystery, murder, etc. Everything I love all in one!
Someone is going around killing a bunch of lawyers and no one knows why. Donovan, being a gorgeous play boy and a kick ass lawyer can bring many enemies so finding out who is doing this, takes a lot of investigation including some by magical beings. Donovan also becomes smitten with a human which makes things even more difficult for him.
One thing I loved about this book is that, the author also touched base with the other side of the book. We get a glimpse into the murderers life and motive.
Assuming the book’s title has Donovan Trait 1 on it, there might be a sequel! I will definitely be looking into more books written by Seelie Kay!

This book puts a new spin on the classic vampire tale. These are vampires of the 21st century and technology has brought them a LONG way. A captivating story line with plenty of twists and turns in the quest to find “whodunnit”. Intrigue, action, suspense, romance, and mystery are packed into every page. I didn’t want to put it down! The laundry can wait….get to reading!

This was a fun book to read and quite surprising. I just love Vampire Lawyer Donovan Trait and his “air” about him how he comes across in the courtroom. Then there is this suspense on whom is starting to kill lawyers including Donovan (or they are trying). The book has some twists on the mindset on whom is responsible and I love every word of this book. I also loved the sweet romance between Donovan and Shirley (whom is a judge). I am really hoping for another book in this series by the author. This book is a great read.

First, let me say that I really enjoyed the actual story of this book, however there was not enough setup of the actual characters. A number of characters were introduced in a very short amount of time, making it a bit confusing at first, but once you settle in the book is really good! I loved that you have a vampire that has chosen to become a lawyer in a rather large city in the United States. I do believe that a little more time spent on each of the characters would be awesome, and I’m hoping that in future novels the author will spend time developing the characters as much as they developed the story. I went around in circles trying to figure out the who-dun-it of this book, and in the end, well, you’ll see! All in all, an excellent book!

First We Kill All The Lawyers is Book One in The Donovan Trait Series by author Seelie Kay. Donovan Trait is a charismatic and drop-dead gorgeous lawyer that ladies fawn over and that everyone wants to be like. His charm and good looks, combined with his knowledge of the law has kept him winning cases in the court room for over three hundred years. A little seduction of judges and juries along the way has not hurt his court cases either and his appetite is insatiable both in and out of the courtroom.
Donovan Trait is unstoppable and untouchable, or so he thinks, until someone sets their sights on him and marks him for murder. Luckily for him, Vampires do not die. The problem is, after several hundred years he has finally met the love of his life who is a human. Shirley is a Judge that Donovan met during one of his cases who turns out to be a match for Donovan both in and out of the courtroom. She is beautiful, vivacious, and smart. However, she is merely mortal and marked for death. They now must battle for their lives as they are hunted like prey by an unknown killer whose motives are unbeknown to them. Donovan and his lady love must combine their skills and their knowledge to save their lives and catch the killer that has set their sights on them and marked them both for death.
First We Kill All The Lawyers had me on edge throughout as I became immersed in Donovan’s life. I felt his pain as he clung to life after several attempts on his life. I waited with bated breath to see if his lady love would survive the attempt on her life. I anxiously turned the pages to see if this man would find his happily ever after or if fate would intervene. I recommend this book and cannot wait to read more books in this series.

I enjoyed this read. Donovan Trait, known as a lawyer who wins, is charming, and a womanizer; not know for being a vampire. When someone tries to kill him not once… but then a second time he goes into hiding. It seems though that he was not the only target. Can he help find out what is behind these killings? The only thing that seems to link them is a single text to all of them before their demise. Can he get to the bottom of this so he can go back to living a normal life? I loved the personality of Donovan and the people he surrounds himself with.

First, We Kill All the Lawyers by Seelie Kay a fantastic five-star read. This is the first novel in the Donovan Trait series, and I am so excited for the rest, I have enjoyed reading this author previously, but this one just had the extra magic, it made me chuckle, but most of all it kept me hooked. This has an original quality to the story, and the characters are just sublime, the snark, the quirks, and the smoothness, all create this great story.

Donovan Trait is a defense attorney in Chicago and also a three-hundred-year-old vampire. He has been searching for his soulmate for a long time. He starts a relationship with Judge Shirley Magnusen. She’s everything he has been looking for, but he has his doubts about a future with her.
One morning while walking to the courthouse, Donovan is stabbed after receiving the text “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers! Starting with you!” He thinks nothing of it, to begin with, but when he is shot in the bathroom of the courthouse several days later, he knows he is being hunted by a killer.
Molly, Donovan’s secretary and also a werebear, elicits help from The Lynx, a private eye and hacker when another attorney is killed. Can they use connections between the lawyers to discover who the killer is before another attorney is killed?
After reading the synopsis of the book, I thought, “Oh, it’s just another vampire book.” Was I ever wrong? This book goes beyond any other vampire book and looks at the scientific discoveries that have helped vampires evolve and into the hierarchy of the vampire world. This story of love and mystery will astound you.

This was an enjoyable read. It’s definitely a different spin on the vampire stories (and other creatures). I like how the format is not focused as much on the vampire, but more shows it as a complication in certain situations. I also enjoy how you get the perspective of the killer and it’s clear when her scenes come up. I enjoy the interaction and personality that comes through on various characters and how they can still act in a way that is “human.” Looking forward to reading the next one!

Someone is killing lawyers, but a particular vampire lawyer won’t stay dead.
Donovan Trait is a marked man. Flamboyant, stunningly handsome, and notoriously insatiable, his attitude and style belie his skills in the courtroom. No one survives a cross-examination at Donovan’s hands. His knowledge of the law and trial practice has accumulated over the years… and years, of experience. More than three hundred years. You see, when Donovan isn’t seducing judges and juries, he’s a creature of the night. And now that someone has decided that it’s time to kill all lawyers, his lust for attention has set him in the murderer’s sights. The problem is, vampires don’t die. Not easily, anyway. That’s good news for Donovan, not so much for his very human lady love, also a target of the serial killer. Will several unsuccessful attempts on his life expose Donovan’s true nature? Will the killer learn the secret that will guarantee a permanent death? Or will Donovan finally manage to put an end to the killer’s murderous spree and live happily ever after, with his lady love?

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the title and the Hucows, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have read other books from the author so I knew that I would most likely enjoy it.
MiSix Mathilda and her partner get an assignment where they have to go undercover to find Lady Annabelle. This brings them into the Hucow world and some very interesting things. They have to find out if Annabelle is there on her own free will or if she is a captive. The things that they encountered were very interesting to say the least.
Will they be able to save Lady Annabelle? Does she want to be saved?
You definitely have to keep a very open mind while reading this book. The author does a great job with her writing and pulls you right in. You get mystery, crime, dom/sub type romance and so much more. I really enjoyed the characters as well. This book will leave you looking at cows in a totally different way and with living in a rural area I see them on a daily basis, LOL. 1-click and get started today on this new series. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay is a trip! It was so much fun to read. Author Seelie Kay has done an amazing job bringing this story to life and making it believable. Special Agent Mathilda’s job is to find the missing Lady Trask for the Queen. She’s already made a mess of things, so this operation will either redeem her or undo her career. Along the way, she and her partner, Abdul, reveal a terrorist plot and the adventure twists and turns its way to the end. If you like romance stories with a bit of a shock factor, this is a fun read. Bovine Tricks is definitely a unique escape, and I recommend it with four stars. Luckily, this is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue Series, so there will be more adventure to come!

Bovine Tricks follows the story of two MISix agents tasked with discovering the whereabouts of a missing royal, who has been sucked into the seedy world of Hucows. These women are trained to act like cows, are traded and bred, milked and impregnated, and surgically altered to seem more like their bovine counterparts. The two agents go undercover to determine if their royal charge is engaging in the submissive behaviour willingly, or if she has been sold into the trade, and drugged or otherwise psychologically damaged to accept this behaviour. The writing is intense and very descriptive; I was able to picture the auction scene in vivid detail. Sights sounds and smells were all written compellingly.
While I can appreciate the unique storyline, this theme wasn’t for me. Perhaps one of her other novels would be something I enjoy more, as she seems to be a prolific authour with a diverse set of works. If you are interested in crime, espionage, sexual trafficking rings, and don’t mind fuzzy lines in sub/dom romances, you might just enjoy this quick read.

There is no doubt this book is very different and interesting at the same time. Trying to visualize what a truly “Hucow”would be, I liked that the author did explain what a Hucow was. This story was unique, very different and entertaining for sure. Characters Abdul and Tillie were hired to find Lady Annabelle Trask and having the story that being abducted and possibly being thrown in to this fantasy world to be changed into an animal, this story has twists, turns and is pure entertainment.

Due 5/9 Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue #1) by Seelie Kay
This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. Kay is talented and every book of hers is amazing. Bovine Tricks will make you question what was going on through her mind.
Tillie is an Agent and does whatever the Queen wants. Things with this case are tricky. Lady Arabella is missing and the Queen needs Tillie to find her. The quote I chose for Tillie is: “It sounds like they are tied to their stalls, maybe even chained. We are going to need some clippers, bolt cutters, and possibly, lock pics.”
Abdul is also an Agent but he is Tillie’s lover. He wants Tillie to be fine and this case is messing with their heads. The quote I chose for Abdul is: “Unless we can figure out a way to get into those barns without being seen.”
Bovine Tricks was the first time I had read and of Seelie Kay’s work and I’m quite lost for words on how to describe my reading of this book. I can honestly say that I have never read anything even remotely like Bovine Tricks. MISix Agent Tillie Spencer has been requested by the Queen to find a missing relative. It seems that Lady Annabelle is living life as a cow. Yes, you read that right…a cow! In this book there are people, some willingly and some unwillingly, who are living as a cow. Medication is provided for them to produce milk and surgery is given to change their bodies to have teats and udders. This books is a funny read as we join Tillie and her partner, in life and in work, Agent Abdul Ali as the go on a mission to find Lady Annabel. I can assure you this book will entertain you as they visit auctions to bid on ‘cows’ and interact with some of them. This is not a long book so if you are looking for a couple of hours of fun entertainment then you should give Bovine Tricks a try.

I have to say that I rarely read the synopsis for a book, its the cover that catches me to pick up a book. And boy was I surprised. This was a very different read than I expected but done in a great way. I was able to imagine what things looked like as they were described well, so kudos to the author there. I wasnt a big fan of Tillie and I couldnt put my finger on why, I just didnt fully connect with her. Overall a great start to a new series!

Bovine Tricks is book one in the Royals Gone Rogue series by Seelie Kay. This was a fabulous short story that was a little different than what I have read by this author. It was a real delight to read the mysterious tale of suspense and intrigue. Tillie and Abdul are tasked with rescuing and returning a royal to the Queen. A dangerous journey that uncovers many surprises has Tillie and Abdul trying to fight their attraction to each other and complete the mission successfully. With obstacles coming at them at every direction, this story was energetic and edgy. A real thrilling and captivating story. 4 stars.

Bovine Tricks Royals Gone Rogue book 1 By Seelie Kay
This book is a fantasy story, takes things to a whole new level. Well written, keeps your mind intrigued as you keep reading. Kudos to this author as this story shows a strong imagination and strong storytelling skills. This is not my first choice as a story to read, however I was pulled in from the first chapter and it kept me until the end.

Mathilda Honoria Spencer, or Tillie is an Agent with MISix who works for the Queen, she carries out assignments when needed and is on currently on an assignment investigating a farm but so far all she can see are male farmhands and cows, but no sign of the supposed Hucows she is there to look for. As she discusses the situation further via her earpiece, she learns more about what exactly these Hucows are, how they are trained by fetish schools to become more like the animals, how they can be physically enhanced to resemble the animals and be used for pet play, as well as milking, she becomes more and more disgusted with the whole idea, but carries on tryin to investigate further before finally reporting on what she has found. This is when she finds out that she has an invitation to an auction where these Hucows and other Huanimals are going to be sold to the highest bidder in order to raise funds for a charity, thankfully though, she will be accompanied by her partner in more ways than one, Agent Abdul Ali so that she can search for the main focus of ehr assignment, Lady Annabelle, a minor royal before she ends up in the wrong hands.
The day of the auction arrives and Agents Tillie and Abdul are ready, he has done his research and is prepared to ask the difficult questions when they go to inspect the goods, where Tillie is struggling just to hide her true feelings on the situation. As they are invited to sit and prepare for the main event, they are still looking for Lady Annabelle, but as they are also looking for those there under duress, they join in the bidding on some of the others to keep there cover intact until she appears, however, it appears that she has an almost full transformation and it is shocking to both Tillie and Abdul. They manage to win the bid when they stare down another bidder whom they recognise from past assignments, however when the auction is raided and the Huanimals disappear from under their noses, even as their money has been taken, a race against time begins to find Lady Annabelle and rescue her.
As the search continues and the lines begin to blur Tillie and Abdul are struggling to keep duty and feelings separate and the hunt for Lady Annabelle becomes more complicated and there are more dead ends than leads, will they get to her in time before those who want to do her harm carry through? This is a race against time to rescue a royal but things are not all as they seem and the blurred lines between fantasy and reality keep you on your toes and make you think at the same time.

Bovine Tricks by Seelie Kay is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. The story features MISix Agent Mathilda Honoria Spencer and her partner Agent Abdul Ali looking for the missing Lady Annabelle Trask. I have enjoyed this author’s books in the past and enjoyed this one as well. The story is creative and not your usual missing-person story. At times I wondered where the story was going but it added to the fun of the story. This is a quick read with romance and special agents. I enjoyed Agent Mathilda, Tillie, her reactions to the situation made me laugh and made her a relatable character. I look forward to reading more in this series to see what happens next.
