SWALLOWED BY A SECRET by Risa Nyman – Review by Kayla Bullock

Swallowed by a SecretSwallowed by a Secret by Risa Nyman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Swallowed by a Secret by Risa Nyman introduces us to Rocky, a spunky 12 year old who recently lost his father.  With the passing of his father, Rocky’s mother moves him to a new town to live with his grandpa.  While trying to adjust to his new home, new school, and life without his father, Rocky overhears a shocking secret.  Rocky’s dad didn’t really die because “his heart stopped.”  This sends Rocky on an investigation to discover the truth about his father’s death and why he isn’t allowed to return to his hometown.

Swallowed by a Secret is a fantastic novel that deals with a very heavy subject.  I believe it could be helpful to millions of teens around the world to read about Rocky’s adventure and what he discovers.  Accepting things about those we love can be hard, but in the end, Rocky knows his father loved him and that he was  great person.  Full of teen angst over normal things like a new school, all the way up to adjusting to life without his father, Rocky is a wonderfully developed character.  His friendship with Olive is fun, and shows what a  true friend should be.  I loved this story! 5/5 Stars!

Fight for It (Sunset Cove)Fight for It by Amy L. Gale
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fight For It is the first book by author Amy L. Gale that I have read and I can not wait to read more! I read this in one sitting, not wanting to put it down at all. Main characters, Ray and Alyssa, were well written and you could feel the chemistry between them. There was such a great flow to the book and it was such an easy read. I can not wait to read more in this series.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Tracy Wilkin

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out is book one in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. Every time is like the first time of ever picking up a book when I read a story by this author. That first feeling of awe, wonder and total contentment as you have found the thing that makes you the most happiest in life. A beautifully written story. I have not felt that discovery of love for books since my first memory of reading. To recapture that rapturous feeling was unexpected but very welcome. Now to the story. There is nothing better than being kept on the knife’s edge with a good mafia romance. This author demonstrates acute imagination and gives the characters depth, immense strength and and more personality that a person may be able to cope with. I get lost in these amazing characters. Totally immersed in the journey. And blissfully content while lost in Max and Liliana.

No Way Out was anxiety riddled, dramatic, fast paced, dangerous, arousing and irresistible. Amy McKinley rose above even my wildest expectations and ruined me for other stories of this trope. I am totally owned by each characters and what they portray. A stunning beginning to a series I have no doubt will be unforgettable. 5 stars.

Drew: Book One of the Perfectly Independent Series by Amanda Shelley – Review by Angelina Frazzini

Drew (Perfectly Independent, #1)Drew by Amanda Shelley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Drew by Amanda Shelley is book one of the Perfectly Independent series.

Abby’s goal is to become a doctor. After her chemistry lab, she’s sure she’s doomed. Drew is not someone she ever expected to be in her lab. With his cockiness, she knows she needs to stay far away, that is until they end up as lab partners. Drew has one goal and basketball was his ticket to get there. Ned school is in his future but he can’t get distracted. Drew avoids distractions at all costs, especially during the basketball season. But then, he’s paired with Abby for lab and all of his plans may just crumble. Can he stick to the plans he laid out or will Abby derail everything?

I really enjoyed reading Drew and Abby’s story. It was so nice to see that Drew had big goals outside of basketball and he wanted to ensure nothing got in his way. Abby was just as driven. They both wanted to do to why was necessary to achieve their goal that they were a little blind at first to what was happening between them. The build up is half the fun! The book wasn’t at all what I was expecting and I definitely recommend this book!

I’m a midwestern nurse practitioner and lawyer who writes in my spare time. Following a bout with a pesky brain tumor, I changed careers and, realizing how tenuous all our grips on life are, including my own, I decided to start writing. I had so many stories to tell! Who knew how long I would have to get them out? I have one Indie published novel to my credit, Drifting, Falling — Diary Of A Call Girl Suicide. My occupations have afforded me the opportunity to work with people with mental health disorders. Those experiences shape the themes that I explore in novel writing. We are all damaged, as one of my characters says, with a dead-on smack of truth I have two rescue dogs, one of whose name is Ruger, like the firearms manufacturer. Not a name I would have given him, but no sense changing his name at age three. However, he inspired me to name Cady’s dog Beretta, which fits in very well with the story line of Stand Your Ground, my next novel that just debuted in August.

Slow Burn by A.K. Macbride – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Slow Burn (Breathing Hearts, #2)Slow Burn by A.K. MacBride
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maddie returns home after her dream of becoming a professional dancer is put on hold. One good thing about moving home to her small town is the view…especially of the neighbor next door. Too bad he has a grumpy attitude to go with those gorgeous looks. Maybe she can turn his frown upside down…

Adam moves to a small town to escape the memories of the past and try to heal. He is weighed down by immense guilt for failing to save his wife. He just wants to live in solitude…but his neighbor’s dog seems to have other ideas.

These two are amazing characters. They are both overcoming different obstacles in their lives. Maddie wants to find the good in Adam…because she sees it…but Adam is determined to keep her away. Thank goodness for her meddling dog! You can feel the emotions come off the pages for both of them and it makes for a beautiful story.

Scarlet Princess (The Lochlann Feuds, #1)Scarlet Princess by Robin D. Mahle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow let me tell you, this book was so intriguing! This book is the setup to this series so this book is very heavy on world building but it does not slow it down at all! Sometimes when authors have so much to set up and that it requires loads of world building it can be complicated to maintain reader engagement. Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison however did so fantastic and I never felt like I was struggling to read or stay engaged, I was quite the opposite actually I couldn’t put the book down! I can’t wait to read the next book. This is going to be such a great series, I feel it in my bones! Read this book, I really can’t recommend this book enough!

Slow Burn by A.K. Macbride – Review by Michelle Austin

Slow Burn (Breathing Hearts, #2)Slow Burn by A.K. MacBride
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a great 5 star read, I was pulled right in from the beginning.

Maddie has been sneaking peeks at her new neighbor and she finally gets the nerve to approach him and lets just say he was not very receptive, she quickly retreated back to her home. There is something about Maddie that Adam finds soothing and he enjoys secretly watching her dance on the beach. Her fugly dog has also been sneaking over to his house and seems to be growing on him. As the story moves forward they start to grow closer, with little hiccups here and there.

Both Maddie and Adam have things that they are dealing with personally. They seem to have a connection and being together helps ease some of the stress.
Will Maddie get past her issues and finally get her dream job? Will Adam be able to get past his issues and open up to Maddie?

Overall this was a great read. I loved all of the characters, especially the dog. I loved Maddie and her strength, her thoughts about Adam had me LOL at times. We get a bonus chapter at the end along with a sneak peek at the next book in the series. The author does a great job with her writing and I can’t wait to read the next book. 1-click and get started today.

What a fantastic read this was! I love when an author can give me heat and an incredible storyline at the same time. Caine and Emery have a chemistry that just seems to jump off the pages. They truly brought the story to life for me. They were easy to connect with and root for. The storyline had me completely hooked from start to finish and I’ll be honest I felt a bit lost when I reached the end from missing the characters. It’s a well written book and I can’t wait for more from this author! Go get this book! Five stars all the way and highly recommended!

Slow Burn (Breathing Hearts, #2)Slow Burn by A.K. MacBride
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nothing quite like an enemies to lovers romance to round out the summer with! A.K. Macbride does a wonderful job at painting a picture of what trauma does to people and how it affects relationships, specifically the one between Maddie and Adam in this novel.

This author is new to me, but this will not be the last book I will read by them! Now that I’ve read this one I plan to go back and read Instant Heat, but in reading this I did not find it necessary that I needed to read that book first, which was a plus! There are definitely a lot of unanswered questions that I have about both characters after reading this book, particularly addressing the family issues in Maddie’s life. Can’t wait to read more!

I love a good cozy mystery and this book is fantastic!! This is my first book I have read by

Karina does choose to help Mike find out whom would frame him for the bribe and why. This book really pulled me in and I could not stop reading it until the end! The Bow (Her Three Immortals, #3)The Bow by Hazel Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hazel Storm has done it again. The Greek God series is one of my favorites. Funny, snarky and spicy…three of my favorite things. Vanessa, Grey Raef, and Aroz are at it again. The locations are great: good Hell, bad Hell, Overworld, and the Underworld. The new adventure to thwart Grey’s mother has them working together (or so they think). Not all is as they think. A few twists may appear. Witty, funny and always a few chuckles, another definite winner. Highly recommend.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fantastic story! This is my first book that I read from Author A.K. MacBride and I love this slow burn of a romance. The is the story of Maddie and Adam that is truly an emotional roller coaster. I believe they both do not feel like they deserve love. Maddie is a dancer, but ends up working for her parents hardware store and they are not in full support of Maddie as a dancer. When Maddie is left a beachfront cottage by her grandmother, this is where she meets Adam. He is rude, grumpy, yes full of pain, but when you find out Adam’s story, you have all these feels why. You really root for these two characters and their story. Highly recommended if you love a contemporary romance with a small town feel. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Scarlet Princess (Lochlann Feuds Book 1) by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison is just purely and simply amazing. I loved this book from the very first sentence to the very last word. Rowan is a second generation Lochlann and this book takes place about 20 years after Robin D. Mahle’s and Elle Madison’s book Lochlann Treaty. While you could read the first book it is not a necessity as Ms. Mahle and Ms. Madison gives us a great plot, a fiery, feisty, and full of attitude princess, as well as other fantastic characters. While this is my first reading by these two I am quickly learning that they love to leave their readers with a cliffhanger, and this reader for one can’t wait to see what happens next.

Swindler’s Revenge (Karina Cardinal Mysteries Book 5) by Ellen Butler – Review by Ashley Dover

Swindler's RevengeSwindler’s Revenge by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having never read a Karina Cardinal mystery or any other book by Ellen Butler, Swindler’s Revenge was a fantastic book. As a civilian, Karina really shouldn’t involve herself in dangerous things. Having been involved in multiple cases which involved getting out of trouble with or without the help of friends, Karina is the to jump in headfirst.

On a perfectly peaceful Saturday, Karina’s lazy morning is interrupted by a knock on the door and the FBI and IRS invading her personal space. It seems her once boyfriend, FBI agent Michael Finnegan is wanted for suspicion of taking a bribe. A $1.2 million bribe? Karina isn’t buying it and soon finds herself under the surveillance of the FBI.

Shortly after, Karina’s commute is interrupted by a cell phone ringing that isn’t hers. She finds the suspicious phone in her pocket and immediately knows that it is Mike. With Mike’s confirmation, Karina knows that Mike is being framed by someone only he doesn’t know who. He wants her help.

With the help of her friends at Silverthorne Security, she finds a hideout for Mike while the team tries to uncover the person responsible for framing Mike. Once again, Karina finds herself deep in an investigation. Will they be able to stop the person framing Mike before it’s too late? And will Karina stay out of harm’s way throughout the investigation?

During their time together, Caine and Emery fall in love with one another. Code Name: Vulture, The Order of the Condor Series Book 1) by Maya Daniels and Sylvia Black-Review by Elena Tobar

Code Name: Vulture: Dark Vampire Romance (The Order of the Condor Series Book 1)Code Name: Vulture: Dark Vampire Romance by Maya Daniels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book drew me right in from the very first page. The authors paint such a vivid picture every step of the way that it felt as if I were a part of the world that they created. I lost an entire day without even realizing it because I kept wanting to read just one more page to find out what would happen next. I honestly cannot remember the last time that I was so engrossed in a book that I finished it all in one day. As a mom of five children, sleep is usually priceless, but this time I did not regret getting less sleep one bit!
This is not your typical vampire fluff novel, there’s romance, action, mystery and a twist that was a pleasant surprise. The heroine Danielle is not as soft and meek as she might appear at first glance, nor is Vulture all that he appears to be on the surface. If you’re a fan of supernatural and vampire romances this is a must read. I really enjoyed how multi-dimensional each of the characters were and the set up for the next book in the series was integrated seamlessly. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series, and I am off to discover more books by this amazing author.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Ashley Dover

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Linda Burson’s Marcy Series starts off wonderfully with these three books. The intriguing story of a woman who loves two men at the same time seems totally absurd. How Marcy handles this among the other revelations in her life is somewhat amazing! These books are truly books that you need to have on your TBR list.

Marcy is the owner of the Coffee, Tea, and Treats bakery in Cold Spring Harbor. In Rage, readers learn of Marcy’s rage that she has used several times to get her out of jams. Unfortunately, it also makes things difficult for her longtime boyfriend, Brad. She eventually starts seeing a psychiatrist who helps her find the cause of her rage. In the meantime, Brad has big plans which lead to an engagement. Only this engagement last only a few days. After Brad breaks up with her, Marcy turns to her friend Liam for a trip out of town which leads to her falling in love with a second guy.

In book 2, Confusion, Marcy decides that she can’t handle relationships with both men. Unfortunately, the situation is not so easily managed, and she soon realizes that one of her men has been leading her with his behavior and his actions. She realizes love often means being able to give up what you most desire to have that person be happy.

In book 3, Agony and Ecstasy, Marcy’s life turns upside down once again as the best-laid plans in life aren’t always what happens. Where does Marcy find love and happiness in her life? And at what cost does this actually happen?
