The Other Side of Together by Emily Cox and Nicole Allen – Review by Shannen Kern

The Other Side of TogetherThe Other Side of Together by Emily Cox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an absolutely heart-wrenching emotional rollercoaster. I sat down to start this book and couldn’t put it down until I was finished! I hadn’t read anything from these authors before, but I will absolutely look out for more from them after this. I always love a book that contains dual points of view as it allows you to get different feelings from each perspective. With this book in particular I think the duality helped me get into Marcus’ and Mei Li’s mind and experience their emotions. These characters are incredibly well-developed, and I loved every moment of getting to know them. Picking up this book is an easy decision as it is one of the best YA Romances I have read in a very long time. I will be (impatiently) waiting for the next book because I need more!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I accidentally picked this book up without realizing it was part of a series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless! I didn’t feel lost when reading so you could pick it up as a standalone, but you’ll end up doing the same as me and run to get the remaining books in the series. The author had me absolutely hooked from the very first chapter which is pretty difficult to do as it typically takes a bit longer for me to find my groove. Janey thinks she has finally escaped her past when she gets kidnapped. Mateo is trying to correct his past, in a way, when he suddenly finds Janey. Will he be able to help save her, or will it ruin everything that he’s been working for? The chemistry between these two is palpable, and we go on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the entire book. There were completely unexpected twists in this book which created even more suspense. I highly recommend picking this up while I grab the rest of the series!

What an explosive start to the series! I’m a huge fan of the romantic suspense genre but add in the MC with the DDLG/BDSM dynamic and I found myself hooked instantly. The main characters, Cutter and Emily, are well-developed and relatable. I was invested in them quite quickly and needed to know what was going to happen next. The chemistry between them jumps off the pages in the first chapter, and it only gets better from there. The amount of action, angst, drama, and chemistry throughout this book was absolutely astounding! I read this in one sitting because I couldn’t pull away from it. I can’t wait to continue the series and get more from this author.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the sixth book in the Relics Hunters series, and I am so sad to see it end! This has been one of my favorite series I’ve read in such a long time. The author has a brilliant way of creating a flawless story flow and just pulls you right in from the start. I absolutely recommend reading these in order as there are five books worth of backstory, character development, and crucial plot twists that you’ll need to appreciate fully. As always, I love the multiple points of view as you get to experience the story from different perspectives. The author creates such vivid imagery with their words, I can’t recommend picking this series up enough! Even though YA is a genre I tend to lean to, I believe this would be a great fit for anyone looking for thrilling adventures as this group goes treasure hunting with quite a bit of mystery and intrigue involved. As sad as I am to see this series end, I will be recommending to everyone I can!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I haven’t come across another author that crafts such flawless stories the way that Via Mari does. This book definitely brings the steamy scenes, but the author doesn’t rely on those scenes to be the sustenance of the book. The storyline is one full of adventure, drama, danger, emotions, suspense, and yes, definitely some spice. Do yourself a favor and clear your schedule when you pick this up because I lost a couple days’ worth of time! I simply could not put it down, so chores fell to the wayside. One major thing I have loved about this series is the fact that it just keeps improving with each book. You’ll want to read more about Sheldon and Alexis in the first part, and then Nick and Allie in the second. I enjoyed the extremely well-developed characters as well as the flow of the story. I can’t think of anything that I DIDN’T like throughout this entire read. I highly recommend picking this up as well as the rest of the series!

WOW! This has been the most incredible boxed set I have read in quite a long time. I thought it was going to take me ages to get through this as it is 7 books, but I literally devoured them in one weekend. After loving the first two, I was worried that the series would have a lesser quality as the books went on. I’m pleased to say that they were all phenomenal, which is nearly an impossible feat with 7 entire books! You’ll be on an emotional rollercoaster throughout this series as we get to know all of the characters’ quirks and relationship webs. I kept falling in love with each character, all of which were incredibly well-developed. The flow of each story was seamless, and I never felt any awkward moments where I was pulled out of the book. I am experiencing such a deep book hangover as I didn’t want to part with these characters at all. This author has definitely made it to my watch list and I’m highly recommending this boxed set to everyone I know!

This series has been so incredible, and this installment is no different! The author has such a way of crafting their stories that once you open the first page, you cannot pull away. I lost an entire afternoon being sucked into this world, but I have zero regrets. The book is told in dual points of view which is an automatic bonus for me. It helps shape the story to hear from both Ros and Jackson’s perspectives. I’m a big fan of fake relationship tropes as well, and the author truly brought a refreshing take to them. While this is part of the series, it is possible to read this as a standalone, so don’t let this being the 4th book put you off at all! I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us next.

I hadn’t heard of this author before, but I was interested in the cover and once I read the synopsis, I knew I had to pick it up. I enjoy the dual points of view the author provides as it always helps give more insight into the characters. I loved that our main female character, Kai, is strong and bold which was refreshing. Waters seems like the typical alpha male, but when he’s put in the same area as independent Kai, what will happen? She needs his help, but will she coordinate with him or will they both be too stubborn? I am eagerly waiting for anything else from this author as they have a beautiful way of crafting this story, and I lost time for an entire afternoon finishing it!

This was my first book by this author, so I was pleasantly surprised to be pulled out of my reality and placed into a spooky bit of New Orleans. I was impressed by the detail of New Orleans and felt like I was experiencing the history, suspense, and humor as if I were there. I’m a pretty quick reader, but this book made me slow down and truly ponder these perspectives. It is quite emotional as well so I feel a bit of a book hangover in a good way! I was hooked by this book from the very first chapter, and it was over far too soon. Selene is our main character who has gambled her way to the bottom. When she finds a job that seems too good to be true, does she find out it is? I won’t give anything away, but this book should absolutely be your next read. It’s quick enough to fit in at lunchtime and you’ll be hooked just as fast as I was! I would love to see this author expand on this book or even create a series from it. Historical romance is one of my favorite genres and this may be one of my very top books in that category right now. The way the author paints Portugal throughout this story is beyond magical. You feel like you are truly there experiencing the country itself. I loved Julia as she is such a strong female character especially in the time period where women were supposed to be meeker. I did take note of the content warning and really appreciate the author for providing that heads up. These are all paranormal romance stories that are short enough to fit one in at lunchtime. We read the first book in this series together, so we were ecstatic to get our hands on the second installment! I thought my youngest (8-year-old) would be just out of range for this one, but he was definitely intrigued throughout the entire book. We also love the Loch Ness monster, and this just solidified our feelings! I enjoyed that the Scottish culture was represented, and the illustrations sprinkled throughout helped make the story come to life. The author does an amazing job keeping us on our toes to see if Nessie will be safe in the grotto or if a crazy rock concert will cause too much disruption. I was doing my best to patiently wait for this book, and I’m pleased to say that it is a deliciously dark romance that kept me awake for hours just so I could finish in one sitting! Without giving anything detrimental to the story away, I *highly* recommend reading the first book in the duet. The chemistry that King and Ava have is no joke, but this book doesn’t just rely on steamy scenes for a plot. There is plenty of intense danger, action, drama, and a rollercoaster of emotions throughout that will have you at the edge of your seat. Although Kingston was far from my favorite person in the first book of this duet, getting more of his background here really does a nice job humanizing him, even if it is still twisted. What an incredible addition to an already amazing series! This is the fourth book in the Relic Hunters series, and I think this may be my favorite so far. The author shows they have no shortage of ideas and expertly crafts another fast-paced history mixed with legend and fiction read. Adam and his group are in Romania responding to a plea for help, but is it all a trap? They find that they are being hunted and danger, mystery, and suspense ensue. Will they be able to make it through unharmed or is this their last adventure-filled journey together? The one and only thing I could possibly utter a complaint about is that my real-life responsibilities are suffering as I can’t put this book down! I hadn’t read anything by this author before, so I hesitated to jump in with an entire box set first thing. Something about the one-word titles named after emotions really pulled me in. You definitely want to read these books in order though as each installment picks up where the previous has left off. We start off with our main character, Marcy, in the first book Rage and the author wastes no time jumping straight into it. I was captivated by the very first chapter and it never let go. I am very glad I got the box set because I immediately jumped into the next one straight away. With the second book, Confusion, Marcy feels stuck and her emotions are clashing. Once we hit the last in this box set, Agony & Ecstasy, I was convinced I was on the most unpredictable rollercoaster I’ve encountered.
