THE DON (HER THREE IMMORTALS Book 1) by HAZEL STORM – Review by Shannon Fowler

The DonThe Don by Hazel Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My first book by Hazel Storm and I am hooked! What a fun, flirty, sexy and quick reading story. Vanessa, Grey and Raef are great characters. I am definitely team Vanessa while reading this story. Most romance stories require the heroine to choose the hero, this story has two heroes and implies that Vanessa will get to choose both!

Mortals aren’t that special but those gods…wow! The side characters kept the story going and makes me hope there will be more stories coming with them included.

This story does end in a cliffhanger which is not a happy ending type cliff hanger at all. On the plus side, good for us readers, there will be more!

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Shannon Fowler

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

No Way Out is the first book in this new series by McKinley. The story line in this book is good. The characters are awesome. I loved Max’s type of alpha. He was not out of control with his love and protectiveness. I loved the way Lil feels about Max. She loves him but isn’t so lost in him that she can’t function. She is strong in her own right. And of course, there are the characters that are easy to hate like Lil’s very own father.

The only concern I have with this book is there seemed to be a lot of references to the past. Almost as if there was a book before this one. I wasn’t confused or lost while I read this story but it felt as if I was missing another story. I was able to read and enjoy this book with ease.

Overall, the writing is really good and I am, as always, looking forward to what comes next for this family.

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven Series Book 4) by AJ Renee – Review by Shannon Fowler

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven, #4)Cursed Touch by A.J. Renee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love these characters and the whole Broderick family. Author AJ Renee keeps me entertained with sassy and sweet characters and with plots that roll smoothly.

Vanessa Raine is a single woman that believes she is seeing things. She knows she isn’t crazy but she just can’t believe the things she sees. And the fact that no one else is seeing these things makes her wonder what is really going on. Carter Broderick is a witch learning his untapped powers. And his day job of being a doctor allows him to practice his healing touch. However, he doesn’t know what he’s missing until he meets Vanessa. The way these two grow together is sweet, sexy and oh so good.

These books do need to be read in order and Cursed Touch is book 4. I definitely recommend this series. Bonus: I love the blurb for the next book, waiting patiently!

Another mystery for Madeline Dawkins to solve! Another mystery from Cynthia Hamilton that you must read.

Mysteries aren’t my go-to stories but Cynthia Hamilton is my go-to author when I want a great mystery.

Madeline has grown so much since her first adventure in book one. Reading about her in each story has been exciting and fun. And book 6 is just as good. Her husband Mike is the perfect match to her personality. I love the way they work together and complete each other.

This series needs to be read in order. Each book is an easy but exciting read. I look forward to the next adventure for Madeline and Mike.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Shannon Fowler

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book set is a great way to start this series! And you must start at the beginning!

This first book is an interesting story. I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the entire time I was reading this book. The plot is a good one, with the main character, Marcy, experiencing some unexplained nightmares and rage. Her boyfriend, Brad, tries to make her understand that people are beginning to fear her. This just makes her angrier. Brad is by no means perfect and has his own problems. This couple gets engaged but sadly it doesn’t last long when they discover they have major problems to work out. Because Marcy didn’t have enough going on in her crazy life, she meets Liam.

I enjoyed this story because I experienced a range of emotions with the characters from their experiences. A little rage myself at the hospital scene. I have found that Brad tends to bring out my worst feelings. However, when Marcy meets Liam, that relationship brings out my swoony type feelings. (Although I think they are rushing things.)

I did not think that Marcy’s rage was all that out of control. Although when she learned to control it she seemed to be able to rather quickly. I think there could have been more situations where she was out of control. There were situations where she should have been out of control but she was rather passive. Marcy is a very likeable character and I cannot wait to see how and when Burson gives Marcy a happily ever after.

Confusion is book two in the Marcy series. In this book Marcy seems to have her rage still under control. After she met Liam in book one she learns there is a better outlet for her rage. In Confusion she is given more opportunities to let that rage loose. Her real confusion is loving two men and it is making me crazy! I really don’t know how one person could do it. She is much stronger than she thinks. However, I would like to see Brad become a little stronger himself. He seems weak through the first half of the book. And then he kind of goes MIA. Leaving us to wonder what he is cooking up.

Liam’s past is still a mystery and his current life as a vigilante keeps him mysterious. I hope when all is said and done he isn’t a bad guy! I am still #teamliam though-out this book!

Again, Burson’s writing style makes this storyline easy to read. I want a happily ever after and Marcy just can’t make a choice…I really don’t blame her…much.

To get the whole story you must read before book one, Rage, before reading Confusion. I love the titles that the author has given to these books. Perfect! However, my feelings are mixed about the main characters. Liam, Marcy and Brad…make a choice already! I did wish there was a bigger wow factor for the cliff hanger but I am still going to read the next book, Agony and Ecstasy. That sounds about right for these characters! I can’t imagine what Burson has in store for these three!

Ok here we go. Agony and Ecstasy is the third book in the Marcy Series. Will it be the last? With that ending I certainly hope not!

Here’s what causes Marcy’s rage, confusion, agony AND ecstasy!

“My life seems to be running in slow motion, and I can’t speed it up no matter what I do. I still think of Brad all the time, but I’m not missing him the way I’m missing Liam. Isn’t that interesting?”

To me this story had more agony than ecstasy. I just can’t like Brad. Everyone else does, Marcy, her friends, her parents, maybe even Linda Burson herself. I really am trying. I was #teamliam all through book 2 but this time he makes some choices and does some things that makes me wonder just what is really going on.

I can tell you this author likes twists! Major twist at the half way mark, another twist before the wedding, minor twist at the wedding, twist with Liam and Marcy, twist with Brad and Marcy. Can you understand the main character’s confusion? agony?

This story had good writing as the first two books did. This story focuses on Marcy’s confusion about loving these two great men. This story has a bittersweet happy ending but I didn’t like it…remember I am #teamliam. I felt no closure with this ending so let’s see what Burson can bring in the next book.

Avenging Devil Part 2: Satan's Devils MC San DiegoAvenging Devil Part 2: Satan’s Devils MC San Diego by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great ending! What a great turn of events! This story is Avenging Devil part 2. The conclusion to part 1. I loved the development of the characters, especially Saffie, from the beginning of part 1 to the ending of part 2. I loved that this story includes many characters from the club. Definitely must read in order.

The only thing I have to complain about is the middle seemed to slow down a little bit, drag just a little…just seemed like boring day to day life while waiting for the conclusion. Although now that I think about the twists that Mellett threw in there, I think the slow part may have been part of her plan to lull us into a safe zone and then BAM! An amazing twist and climax to make you sit up and think what the … just happened!?! And the way Saffie happens her own club business…Just ah!!

This story is twisted and is not for the faint of heart. There are warnings in the blurb as well. Read with caution but get ready for a ride!

Pet Me (The Toye Shoppe #1)Pet Me by Angelique Jurd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jurd is a new to me author. This story is a sweet romance that happens between two males and happens to involve kink. This story is good for any reader with an open mind, a nonjudgmental reader.

Bailey is a sweet innocent young adult male who wishes to be special. He doesn’t understand how special he really is. Oh, my! He is so innocent. Bailey’s life is anything but easy and of course he has dreams of finding true love, someone who will care for him and someone he can care for as well. Someone he can trust with his dreams.

Sam is a man reaching the best years of his life. He doesn’t realize he is missing something until Bailey walks into his store. Sam has experience and knowledge. But he is lacking a special someone he can care for. A chance meeting helps these two discover there is more to life than what they are currently experiencing.

I love how this story creates an acceptable world for these two to explore and love. I love the secondary characters also known as friends! Looking forward to what’s next for this group of characters.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story is not safe for work, not for children and definitely not for readers with triggers due to rape, torture, or abuse. Everyone else will love this story…well maybe not the ending!! UGH those cliffhangers! But the title does say PART 1 for a reason!

Mellett loves her MC stories and she does an amazing job with each one. Every story digging deeper into the lives of Satan’s Devils and securing these characters into our hearts. Avenging Devil is no different! Saffie and Niran are strong characters on their own but they really need each other and we need them to work it out and realize their need is more than just about sex. The need for a friend, the need for protection, the need for love, and the need of feeling safe. Just plain safe.

This series needs to be read in order so that you can experience the other characters in the club and understand the brotherhood. Since this story ends with a cliffhanger, I am patiently ish waiting for part two.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a fun, interesting fantasy story! My first one by Drago as this genre isn’t my usual go to. However, when I need a break from my romance stories, I know that I will continue to read the stories by Ty Drago.

This story has a little bit of everything: action, adventure, fantasy, romance. This story will be loved by “science nerds” and adventure loving readers and it is definitely a good story for young adults.

I love how this story is set in space and on one of Juniper’s moons. Living in space and being on spaceship has to be quite the adventure. But then again Andy is full of surprises and adventures look like they will be his new normal now. My only complaint about this story is the use of the word “furking”. In the beginning it really bugged me but by the end it actually fit the character and story line so I didn’t mind it…as much.

I look forward to reading more from Drago and certainly more about these characters.

Turning Wheels (Satan’s Devils MC#1) by Manda Mellet – Review by Shannon Fowler

Turning Wheels (Satan's Devils MC, #1)Turning Wheels by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Turning Wheels is the first in the series entitled Satan’s Devils, but not the first book I have read by Mellet. This is probably one of my favorite stories by Mellet.

I love this storyline and these characters, especially the “disabled” character of Wheels. She is one tough cookie. I really love how the plot kept moving and the buildup to the climax was not a letdown at all.

This story is about a motorcycle club, MC, that while may not be completely innocent, they do try to do the right thing. And protecting women is one of those things. When Sophie is threatened by a wealthy crazy man the MC takes her under their protection. I love that Sophie has no idea about MC’s in America being that she is from England. Her surprise and learning is refreshing if not comical.

Wraith is the VP of the club with no desire to be president and no desire to have an old lady, wife in MC terms. He earned his name…well as you can imagine. When he meets Sophie, he is taken back by his immediate feelings for her. His protective instincts sky rocket.

The two learn how to accept each other and bring out the best in each, as any healthy relationship should be. I am looking forward to the rest of the club’s stories.

The main characters of Cursed Sight are witches, Ethan and Serena. There are other magical characters in this story such as shifters and demons. Oh my!

While I did not read book 1, I really liked this story. And now I know I need to read the first book in this series, obviously Brandy and Ryan’s story is something that I need to know.

Cursed Sight is about Ethan finding his powers and learning what he sees and how to prevent his visions from becoming a reality. His story looks like it begins in book 1 so all the more reason to read it! Serena is the coven high priestess. Her powers surpass almost everyone’s, but she too, has lessons to learn, like who might be trying to get rid of her. Helping Ethan with his powers may protect her as well.

Ready for book 3…wondering if it will be Peter’s turn or maybe Max? or one of the other brothers?

Each story is getting better and better. Loved these characters. Loved their protectiveness, their devotion, and their energy! Renee writes about a magical world I can imagine being a part of, a world that I want to be a part of.

Many stories build up to the climax and rush the ending causing a letdown feeling, but not Renee. The buildup is intense and well written. The climax was paced just right in this story, I did not feel any disappointment at the “ending”.

Every time I read another shifter story by Renee; I remember just how much I love them! While this is the third in the Broderick Coven Series, it could possibly read as a stand alone if you didn’t already have the first two. (FYI the others as just as good! You will want them too!) The main characters for each book is a different couple but from the Broderick family. Cursed Whispers is about Max Broderick, the veterinarian. The veterinarian that can talk to animals. He finds an injured wolf who turns out to be Claudia, a wolf shifter in need of more than just a doctor’s help. Luckily, Max is special. And ready to fight, protect and love.

Ready to read the next brother’s adventure!

Relentless, meaning never giving up. Layla is relentless in looking for her sister. Dereck is relentless in helping and protecting Layla. Even the bad guys are relentless in their human trafficking pursuits.

I enjoyed the banter between Layla and Dereck through-out the entire book. And I really like how Layla is such a tough woman. She can protect herself, find her sister and still love the man. Mari has created believable characters and a real-life world that is worth reading about.

While Relentless is not my favorite of Mari’s stories, it is still 4-star worthy. This story can be read as a stand alone since the previous characters are only slightly mentioned. But the Billionaire Bodyguard series is worth the read.

I thought I had read other books by Nikiki Lynn Barrett, but to my surprise this is the first! I am so excited to have found a new to me author that I like…no that I love! Even the cover is great and I really don’t care about covers!

Peaceful Slumber is a mystery with a little romance, with a little paranormal, with a big adventure! This is a story that I could not put down. I had to know what was going to happen, who was going to do it and why it was happening! Barrett put just enough suspicion in this story that anything was possible.

I love stories that touch on social situations. Barrett has chosen mental health. While it is a very serious topic, her story gives a little hope to those who also suffer. Finding that one person who is your one is hard enough and being anything different makes it even harder.

Zelda is the female main character and Barrett really puts her through every tough situation you could think of. Except Zelda doesn’t remember any of it. Including her own name. Scott seems like the only one that could help her. They are both lost souls who are a little different and they are perfect for each other. However, with so much unknown in this story it doesn’t look like there will be a happy ending.

The storyline is ORIGINAL…at least from my list of books. I really love this story!

I highly recommend this story and can not wait to read anything by Barrett! Since this is the first book in the Soul Connection series, there will be more!!!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

DeBlassie has upped the ante with this “blood curdling” story. Unlike any of his other crazy stories, Goddess of Everything is above and beyond normal craziness.

This story is about Mother Juana and her need for…blood, death, obedience and well, everything. Mother Juana’s son Gabriel is torn between his love for his wife, his mother and life in general.

These characters are well developed, enough so that you know if you met up with Mother Juana you would want to run the other way. And if you met up with Gabriel you would see the devotion and love this man has for those around him especially those less fortunate.

The plot of this story is unbelievable, disheartening, and downright disturbing. Way to go DeBlassie. If you enjoy dark stories with a touch of mystery and crazy, this may be one you put at the top of your list.

This story, and series, is an apocalyptic-type story with the entire country being “infected” except for a select few. Our heroine Max along with her sister and brother and their new family are trying to right the wrongs and figure out the world without a true government while fighting/killing the “infected” who eat the uninfected humans.

I am also wondering if Konstantin writes other genres as her knack for thriller/adventure is spot on!

So, I decided to give DeBlassie another try with this short story, Hungry Business. I really had no idea what I was getting into. This short story has a very interesting twist on looking for love.

The narrator is clearly looking for love but has faced so many negatives on her search that she is becoming bitter and cold. But she doesn’t give up hope and continues to look for love in all places, including the orange tabby cat across the street in the neighboring building.

OMG what a story, Stormy is a very unlikeable character. But of course, he has the best reasons to be like he is. In a perfect world, he would have reacted differently to his life but what can you do, the world is not perfect, not even in a book.
Mellett has written another story with a character that we love to hate from book 1, a character who turns out to have a very interesting back story. This page turning story leads us to an unlikely meeting between Stormy and Cat.

Smart Cat. “You’re never going to move forward unless you stop looking back.”

There are some references to the other clubs and other characters from book 1 Road Tripped, so this book is best if read in order. The other Chapters have their own series and while you don’t have to read those before this Utah series, you are going to want to read all of Mellett’s series.

Road Tripped is not the first MC book by Mellett that I have had the pleasure of reading. This story has a good story line with an easy-to-read adventure. There are a couple of graphic scenes but since it is an MC story, it is kind of expected.

Road is from the mother chapter in Tucson but there is something going on in Utah. And it’s up to Road to figure it out, report back to Drummer, his prez, and then get on with his life. But what life does he have now that his sport of choice has been taken from him. And when he finds out Utah has more secrets than he can handle, what’s a biker to do? Even though I love Swift doesn’t mean that Road loves what Swift stands for. I love what Swift brings to the Utah Chapter and the Satan’s Devils overall, but can Swift prove that the Utah chapter is above board and not working illegally before Road reports to Drummer or dies trying?

This book is definitely worth the read. Bring on Book 2!

Glaive and Ada are doomed from the start. But this author doesn’t let them struggle for long! Although they each do have suffering to bare. The adventure these two must endure for a happily ever after is proof that love conquers all.
The only negative I have about this book is the setting confused me a little. It seems that the world they live in is in the past as they have a King ruling the land with soldiers protecting with swords. But at the same time there are modern vehicles. Travel is occasionally done by horse and by car. It does distract occasionally from the story line.

And there is page-turning action.

At first, they both believe their attraction will be a one night stand kind of thing. But almost right away they realize that their attraction is so much more.

This is my first story by author Evelyn Sola and I enjoyed her story telling ability. The tension she created between the lovers and their beliefs helps to create the “almost forbidden” love affair. For abuse victims this story has to have many triggers. I was bothered by the situations and I am not a victim. Reading this story is an eye opener. You never know what is going on behind closed doors or in people’s minds.

However, the author Willink, does a great job of capturing the reader into the story and creating characters that you can love and even one or two to hate! The story had a good flow and was easy to follow. The story itself provides a look into the life of a domestic abuse victim and a domestic abuse survivor. I recommend this story and even with the warning of triggers, it is still a really good story.

Grumbler’s Ride (Satan’s Devils MC San Diego #2) by Manda Mellett – Review by Shannon Fowler

Grumbler's Ride (Satan's Devils MC San Diego #2)Grumbler’s Ride by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Grumbler’s Ride is another twisted story in Mellett’s MC series. What starts out as a simple photo shoot with Grumbler’s motorcycle turns beyond creepy, beyond troubling, and if possible, beyond evil. Grumbler’s ride gets him into a world of trouble. At first it just seems like a shady photographer. But what he discovers is so much more. However, as much evil as he unearths, he also meets Mary and her teenage daughter Alicia.

I love the fact that this story features an older couple, as did Being Lost, book 1 in this series. 50 and 60 is the new 30 and 40 right!?! This story was easy to read in that the words and plot flowed well. I like how the story ends except: what happens with Mary??!!! I need answers so I really hope Mellett is writing!! I also like how there are enough characters for this series to keep going. Mellett gives just enough details of the other characters so you won’t know whose story could be next. Definitely looking forward to the next one.

Being Lost (Satan’s Devils MC San Diego #1) by Manda Mellett – Review by Shannon Fowler

Being Lost (Satan's Devils MC San Diego #1)Being Lost by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My love for Manda Mellet and her Satan’s Devils began in Colorado and has now moved to San Diego!

Lost is the name of the president of the San Diego chapter of the Satan’s Devils motorcycle club. Lost is well, lost. And for most of the book he is finding himself. And finding a reason for happiness, which he finds in Patsy who is in danger. Lost makes her his top priority.

Patsy and her son, Dan, are trying to start a new life away from the trouble Pasty’s ex-husband started before his death. But some things are hard to escape. Maybe the help from a Lost man is all Patsy needs.
I like this story and the growth that Lost makes throughout it. I love that this story has older characters as the lead. Not every hero/heroine is a 20-something Barbie girl!

Glad I have the next book in this series ready to go!
