My Life Series: Prequel to The Brothers of Camelot by Necie Navone – Review by Shannon Fowler

My Life Series: Box Set: Prequel to Brothers of CamelotMy Life Series: Box Set: Prequel to Brothers of Camelot by Necie Navone
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow I love this box set! I read each of these books before they were in the box set but having them all together is even better!

My Hidden Life- book one- is about the Canzano Family but more importantly Alessandra or Aless, as she is called. She is a naive, sweet and seemingly sheltered little girl for most of this story. As she grows up, we learn that she is not so sheltered. She sees and knows things. Her father is Capo or captain of the Mafia Family. And is feared by all. He is grooming Aless to take over the Family and all their dealings. This story and her training start out when she is just 6 years old. Capo is easily one character I can hate.

My Tragic Life is easy to read except when Aless become a killing machine to protect her family. I loved watching her grow and learn through-out these stories. Her feelings about the “men” in her life, especially Grayson and Luigi make me laugh, blush and sigh right along with her. She is probably the strongest female character I have ever read about. Even though Aless didn’t show much emotion during a rather difficult situation, as a reader I sure cried like a baby. This book sure leaves a lot of question for the next one! I can’t wait to see where the Brothers of Camelot come into play.

My Free Life – book three- Great conclusion to the build up of Aless’s life as a mafia princess! This book was easy to read even while I was holding my breath as to what could happen next. I really expected more from Capo/Papa, the jerk face, however I am sure we haven’t heard the last from him. I love how Aless’ men follow her, protect her and really have her back when times got tough.

Highly recommend this box set and can’t wait for more from this author!

SAN DIEGO DEAD (Jake Wolfe Series Book 4) by Mark Nolan – Review by Shannon Fowler

San Diego Dead (Jake Wolfe #4)San Diego Dead by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another amazing adventure with Jake Wolfe and his sidekick Cody. This story is number 4 in the Jake Wolfe series and must be read in order. San Diego Dead starts with action, continues with action and ends with action! Hang on for the wild ride that is Jake Wolfe! Protecting the USA is a tough and violent job so there is a little violence throughout this story. Each story is getting better and better. Characters on top of characters, some from previous stories and some that are new. Being a romance lover I am still waiting for Jake to have his “happily ever after”!

I can highly recommend this entire adventure! If you have read the other stories then you already know you want to read this one!! If you haven’t, what are you waiting for!?!

Ailey of Skye by Wendy Hewlett – Review by Shannon Fowler

Ailey of SkyeAiley of Skye by Wendy Hewlett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first book by Wendy Hewlett so I did not know what to expect other than it was a self-discovery story with a possible love story. Little did I know that 2 chapters in and I would be “a blubbering fool” as well! Parent child relationships are so personal to me because I am both a parent and a child. My relationships with my parents/stepparents is rocky at best; however my relationship with my children is so much better. Whenever I read a story involving parents and their children I always get a little misty eyed. The way Hewlett has written the relationships with Ailey and her family had me sobbing. Then laughing, then angry, then smiling! You know: all the feels!

This story was filled with so many twists and surprises all because one man was a selfish liar. I loved watching Ailey discover herself, her family’s secrets and her new found friends. Everyone needs true friends, ones you can trust, ones you can laugh and cry with, ones that just get you. Friends that are really your tribe!

I don’t want to give away any more of this story but I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to see what else Hewlett has up her sleeve!

Paladin's Hell: Satan's Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #1Paladin’s Hell: Satan’s Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #1 by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I don’t know why I don’t read more MC stories! Every time I do I fall more head over heels for them. I don’t know where Mellett has been hiding! I love this author and her club! This story can be read as a stand-alone but little did I know that the Arizona Chapter is where it all starts. You can tell that some of the characters in this book have their own stories. I can’t wait to go read all 9 of those books! And what is next for Demon and the Colorado Chapter!

Paladin’s Hell is about Paladin and Jayden as well as Hellfire and Moira. I loved how this story had two different couples at two different times in their lives. There are not many books with over 40 main characters so having them in this story is so extra! The twists in this story are beyond great. And I even caught myself laughing out loud at Pal and Jay.

“While my breathing returns to normal, I can’t help but laugh at the expression of distaste on her face. “Guess you’re not going to want to swallow.””

Definitely recommend this book!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Virtue and Vice is a fun, sexy story that I can’t get enough of! I am completely loving this series. The idea of an adult amusement park is so fresh and new…well at least in a book it’s new. I know some adults that have dreamed of an “adults-only park” for a while!

This story is hot right from the very first page! I had to share with hubby right away since I thought it was about us! You know the story has to be great when you start with a sexy time!

The characters in this story are fun, ambitious, sexy and entertaining! I love when characters hit turmoil or some unforeseen twist and realize just what could happen if they don’t shape up! Alexander doesn’t disappoint! (I really hope she is writing the next story, quickly!)

Rogue Wave (The Inland Seas #2)Rogue Wave by Gwyn McNamee

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?”

This is the story of all stories when it comes to who to trust! Cutter is a misunderstood madman. He’s a good guy but has to do some unsavory things to get by in life. War is not easy on anyone.

Valentina is the first female mob guardian. Apparently, she is bad to the bone. But where did she come from? Is she to be trusted? Whose side is she on?

This story, this series, this author, surprises me with her stories every time. Surprises me that she can keep me guessing. Surprises me with the excitement and wonder of a new story.

Definitely recommend McNamee for a good time!

Collision (Shattered Hearts Book 3) by Nicole Banks – Review by Shannon Fowler

Collision (Shattered Hearts, #3)Collision by Nicole Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Collision is book three in the Shattered Hearts Series and needs to be read in order because Kris and Chase’s love story starts in the first book and continues to slowly burn and grow through-out all the books. Kris and Chase start out as friends. Their “relationship” is hard to describe in the fact that they don’t have one. They both want to be with the other but there is always someone or something standing in their way.
“Life could be a vicious b%^&* when she wanted to be. Nothing ever worked out the way you wanted it to.”
I enjoyed reading Collision. Banks writes a good story that keeps the reader engaged and wonder what could possibly hold them back now! This story has many secrets and twists with characters that don’t want to be vulnerable to each other but at the same time characters who can’t live without the other. I recommend this series and look forward to reading more from Banks.

Not So Wrong (Love Grows Book 2) by Renee Regent – Review by Shannon Fowler

Not So Wrong (Love Grows series, Book 2)Not So Wrong by Renee Regent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not So Wrong is the second book in the Love Grows Series and the second book by this author for me. This story doesn’t need to be read in order but you will want to read book one at some time.

Spencer and Melanie are our unlikely couple looking for something more in life. Both hiding their true selves from the world. Hiding their fears and their pain. Spencer is a billionaire, so really what kind of problems could he have, right? Not everything is as it seems. Melanie has no money and comes from an even poorer family. Her problems have problems. Both of their problems and pasts, while different, cause them pain and influence their life choices.

“I had only wanted to show her pain came to all types of people in many forms and for infinite reasons.”

This story pulls at the heart strings, not enough for an ugly cry but just enough to make the adventure so worth it.

Highly recommend this story.

After Wrath (The Deadliest Sin Series Book 2) by Gwyn McNamee – Review by Shannon Fowler

After Wrath (The Deadliest Sin #2)After Wrath by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“They just woke a sleeping dragon. The years I’ve spent in the background have come to an end. It’s time to take my rightful place at the head of the family.”

This man, Aleksander, is just plain evil. Until he meets Brynn. But even her love is not enough for the dragon to change. She does bring out his caring side but this story is entitled After Wrath for a reason. There are no rainbows and unicorns in this story. Aleksander is on a mission. His mission is to avenge Saban’s death. Family comes first, no matter which Mafia family you are a part of.

I have said in my past review for McNamee, unforeseen twists. Twists that make you scream at your reading device. Twists that make you cry with sadness and with hope. McNamee is a master twist writer.

This book, well really this series, is not for the faint of heart. It is for readers that like dark, twisted, unimaginable stories. Way to go, McNamee! Looking forward to the ending?

Surviving Wrath (The Deadliest Sin Series Book 3)Surviving Wrath by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Perfect title to explain this three-book series. Surviving Wrath. Or just simply surviving. Everyone needs to survive. Well, not everyone. There are certain people in this story that deserve to die. And thankfully McNamee sees fit to make it happen in this book. But then again it wouldn’t be a McNamee book if there wasn’t a twist or two to keep you guessing!

Konstandin and Rea, formerly known as Griffin and Jade to throw off the mafia, are trying desperately to survive the wrath that started in book one.

“So, what I have learned over the last two years is that wrath is a deadly sin. It will take your life. It will take you mind. It will take your heart, but sometimes…The only way to survive wrath is to give into it.”

Such a great story that touches on the dark side of life. But where there is darkness there is always light.

My favorite part of this book was the actual ending. Simple. Done. No questions asked.

Completely recommend this story but you must start with book one.

Into Pieces is the conclusion to Jasmine and Angel’s story. This time around, Banks lets out all the demons that could possibly break Jasmine and Angel, together and separately. Their pasts are hard to read about but the story as a whole is easy to read as the plot moves quickly and sometimes unexpectedly. Banks ended the first book in this series with a twisted cliffhanger and this one is no different. I loved how even though this was Jasmine and Angel’s story we get to read about how Kris and Chase may one day get together! They are pretty hot themselves.

I recommend this story and can’t wait to read more about in this series and any other stories Banks may write!

Jasmine and Angel were friends growing up. Angel went into the military while Jasmine was left at home with a madman. They stayed in contact even through the most horrific of times. Neither sharing those horrors with the other. Their friendship is put to the test when they realize the heat between them is so much more than just friends. The Flood by Meghan O’Flynn – Review by Shannon Fowler

The FloodThe Flood by Meghan O’Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story is crazy good. With a big emphasis on CRAZY. The prologue of this story leaves you squirming, a little uneasy and completely under O’Flynn’s control. The story continues like the eye of a hurricane. The calm is there but you know something big is about to happen.

I didn’t like Victoria at the beginning. She acted as if she had little feelings, almost as if she was better than everyone else, certainly didn’t like her husband anymore. Through the course of this story, though, feelings are brought out and explained. Victoria has her reasons as do the others stuck in the bunker.

O’Flynn’s stories leave you a little leery of the world around you. What sinister things could be waiting to happen, either in real life or in O’Flynn’s mind?! I recommend this book for a little escape from the romance of life.

This box set contains 25 sweet and spicy stories from various authors. As with all box sets you get your fill of amazing stories. Sugar and Spice is just one of those stories! It is book one in the new series by Phoebe Alexander called Spicetopia, but we get it first in this set!

Sugar and Spice is a fun story. Original and different. Our main characters are the Sweet family, specifically Cy Sweet and their workers from Sweetopia, specifically Jolie, the Red Velvet Queen.

Sugar and Spice is a little different than the stories Alexander usually writes. It’s a little “sweeter”. The sex is still spicy but the actual story is sweet. However, once Cy and Jolie get to the hot tub things just might change and lead to a steamier second story!

Absolutely LOVED this story! One of the sweetest and most heart-warming stories I have read in a long time!
A single widowed dad with 2 young girls and a single adventurous woman make for an interesting mix.
There are no sex scenes so this story is safe for most ages. There was a hilarious reference to being naked as told by a 9 year old, which makes any parent a little uncomfortable, in an “I’m not ready for my kid to grow up” kind of way.
This is a story with all of the feels. Some tears, laughter, sweet sighing. A very nice read after all the sex crazy books I have been reading.

The Traitor (An Underground Bad Boys Romance Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Shannon Fowler

The Traitor, An Underground Bad Boys SeriesThe Traitor, An Underground Bad Boys Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The characters in this story are just that, characters. They are funny, sweet, determined and super sexy together! Spencer Knox grew up a dangerous street rat, someone who would do anything for a safe place to sleep without a knife in the gut. Spencer decides he needs to get off of the street and change his ways. He moves to the isolated town of Landston to start over. No one knows him here and that’s the way he likes it. Josie Baird is also starting over without her crappy husband who is refusing a divorce until she finishes paying him that is. She is running herself to the bone, while trying to get that divorce. She is so determined and strong. Gage is Spencer’s friend from the streets. He’s looking for a break from the crime and hate filled city life. When these three meet there is an explosion of feelings but only one is willing to do anything about it until they are thrown together in work and play!

Of course with a title like, The Traitor, one wonders who that could be. There are secrets to be revealed but do secrets make you a traitor? Does choosing the lesser of two evils make you a traitor? Does having feelings for more than one person make you a traitor?

I love the way Kells writes. This story is interesting, page turning and even jaw dropping. The characters feel like real people, not too perfect, not too sexy, just right. The adventure these three take together could really happen but the style of writing helps this reader escape my real world.

Highly recommend this story.

Guilty Pleasures vol 3 is another collection of Brad’s sex-capades! Readers are in for some very steamy stories by McCarthy! McCarthy has an easy writing and descriptive writing style, especially for such sexy stories.

Luckily Brad is a single guy without a care in the world, other than who his next partner will be. In all honesty though, I don’t think Brad thinks about that much. His adult activities kind of just happen. He seems someone attractive to him and he approaches. No female is safe, co-workers, friends, clients.

Book 2 is just as good as book one. The action, the hotness, even the secrets being kept. It seemed that everyone was undercover for one reason or another! I kept trying to guess who the good guys were and who the bad guys were.

Matt is a body guard. He is also working undercover trying to uncover some mafia secrets and save innocent people. He is good at what he does. It doesn’t hurt that he is delicious to look at.

Marenah is the twin sister of Sasha from book one, Wayward. (You really don’t have to read book one to read Undercover but it sure doesn’t hurt.) Marenah’s family has many ties to the mafia, which includes secrets of their own. We know that her loyalty lies with her sister. Everyday Enchantments: Musings on Ordinary Magic & Daily ConjuringsEveryday Enchantments: Musings on Ordinary Magic & Daily Conjurings by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This isn’t a story but instead short individual thoughts and well…musings, like the title indicates. DeBlassie helps you take a different look at the world around you. At the world you live in. A way to look at life that you might not have looked at before. Sometimes the musings were as simple as cooking breakfast but then lead to a deeper feeling of better health, maybe even an awakening after a bout of depression. A feeling of being in a rut but then climbing out of that rut.

Each musing is a little different. With titles like “Let Me Be”, “Cruising to Work”, and “Confessions of a Flower Eater”, you never really know what you’re going to get.

I recommend this book if you are looking for “everyday enchantments”.

My One Love (The Brothers of Camelot Book 2) by Necie Navone – Review by Shannon Fowler

My One Love (The Brothers of Camelot Book 2)My One Love by Necie Navone
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the continuation of Aless, now known as Lexy, and Grayson. Their story started in the My Life Series. That series should be read first as it will give you the back story for these two and because it was an awesome read as well! In that series Lexy and Grayson meet one night at a party and had an instant connection. That connection would hold them for more than five years. They both were hoping it would be enough when they found each other again. Fast forward to this story, My One Love, where we hope that connection can survive two strong, alpha characters.

My One Love is easy to read with action, steamy scenes, and like I said lots of alpha men and women. There are also the bad guys from the old family that Lexy must deal with along with a stubborn, bossy, protective man she has been secretly following. This story is not for the faint of heart as there is some violence, the kind of violence you would find when fighting an Italian mafia family. I love how Lexy’s friends step up in many of the situations, proving that having a tight circle is important.

I definitely recommend this story along with the other Camelot Brothers stories! Navone has quickly become a favorite one click!

Even Madeline isn’t free from the danger her ex-husband brings but with Mike’s help and the help of her staff at MDPI nothing is going to get in Maddie’s way of solving these mysteries!

I am really enjoying the adventures that Hamilton is able to put Mike and Madeline through. Just enough danger to worry, just enough mystery to wonder, just enough love to keep us hoping. 4 stars or 5 stars…I was thinking that the only way this story could have been better is if it had been longer but really then it would have seemed to drag on. This novella was short and to the point. Main character Emma is easy to love, to laugh and cry with. So definitely 5 stars.

The secondary characters of Danny, Reece, Linda and the friends from college are all an intricate part of Emma’s life. They are all suspicious in their dealings with Emma, leaving me guessing right up until the end. I had my doubts that a quick story could have a happy ending but my faith in Amy McKinley never wavered.

The story line was super easy to follow even with the flash backs. Those looks into the past helped explain Emma’s character and feelings so well.

Act II. Playing with Fire (Moore Family Saga, #2)Act II. Playing with Fire by Michele Sims
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second story in the Moore Family Saga and it follows Act I, about seven years later. While it seems not much has changed for Lecia and Cade it really has. Cade is a rock star, Lecia the stay at home mom. It seems the only danger to this perfect family is themselves. Miles is growing and it seems he is more special than we first thought.

This storyline is easy to read and easy to follow. While the characters Lecia and Cade are likeable, I find that I don’t LOVE them…yet. They have poor communication skills with each other and as husband, wife, friends or lovers they really should be able to express themselves better. They may have avoided much conflict in their lives…oh, well…good job Sims, a story about how we are our own worst enemies! Don’t get me wrong, these two have to fight off much more than themselves. Some people, in stories and real life, just want what they can’t have! Plus having a son with such special abilities!

I recommended this saga and am looking forward to what Act III brings for this family.

What a fun little story. This story if good for anyone who likes mysteries and a talking cat! Definitely good for teens! Entertaining enough for adults as well!

The coolest character is of course Mia who is the main character. The secondary characters are helpful and easy to read about. With the secondary character of Donna Antonio standing out for me. Knowing who this character is named after gave me an extra smile.

This book starts out a little sad and foreboding. “The circle of life blossomed all around him and increased his melancholy. He hated it. Detested the circumstances that brought him here today. He longed to know what happened to his family.” As the story progresses, this foreboding turns into an “ah ha moment”. Getting to know this character and what made him so sad is part of the enlightenment of this story.

Hamilton dives into a touchy subject, one that the real world is unbelievably discovering as well. Several girls have gone missing. Not all of the cases are the same, however there is more to it than meets the eye. Madeline and Mike have to use their MDPI skills during this story. Another great male/male love story! Another story to open the eyes of readers who might not be sensitive to others. And a great love story proving once again, you can’t help who you love!

“One couldn’t be forced to be bi any more than they could be forced to by gay or straight.”

This story has a little bit of everything including sexy humor!

“Who wants to read when they could be having sex?” I froze, my fork inches from my mouth, and stared at him. “That’s a good point, though one doesn’t prevent the other.”

Rowan Shaw takes the serious subject of sexual orientation and shows not only the tender and loving side but also the horrible side of closed minded people.
