LOVE on the LINE, A Great Expectations Love Story: The Graykens, Book 2 by Laurie Lewis – Review by Shannon Fowler

LOVE on the LINE (Great Expectations Love Stories: The Graykens Book 2)LOVE on the LINE by Laurie Lewis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the follow up story of Love on a Limb. We were left with Matt and Mikaela after their wedding in book one. We find Mikaela and Matt are still fighting the cancer. More choices are offered with more decisions to be made this time around. Mikaela and Matt’s love is amazing! If they would just let it shine through. Love is love, no matter what and sometimes love is work. Every time, though, love is worth it.

“I promise you, Matt, nothing comes before us. Whenever love is on the line, I’m always going to choose us.”

This story includes new characters that will make you shake your head in disbelief. Some even make you smile with heart felt love. I loved the story line except again for the cancer. Because like my review of book one: I hate cancer.

This author never ceases to amaze me with her story telling. I look forward to what else she can write!

Immortal Desires Anthology – Review by Shannon Fowler

Immortal DesiresImmortal Desires by Melanie James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This anthology is a collection of stories that all have to do with…immortals. Vampires, shifters, ghosts just to name a few. With so many great stories, this anthology is sure to have something for everyone.

I recommend the story by Jennifer Theriot called Flirty Dancing because it was a mix of utter sadness and far-fetched hilarity! No one really knows what happens to us after our deaths and Theriot gives us just one view with this easy fun read.

If you’re looking for a different kind of immortal…like say a wolf shifter? Check out the story by Nicole Garcia called For Haven’s Sake. After reading this story, the title takes on a different meaning. Great story but the ending just means there HAS to be more to come! Right?!
You can’t go wrong with this anthology!

The Case of Missing Books: A Summer McCloud Paranormal Mystery by Nikki Broadwell – Review by Shannon Fowler

The Case of Missing Books: A Summer McCloud Paranormal MysteryThe Case of Missing Books: A Summer McCloud Paranormal Mystery by Nikki Broadwell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a story that includes witchcraft, ghosts and hidden tunnels. The female main character is Summer. She has special “powers”. She is able to see ghosts and has visions of the past. Her new husband, Jerry, seems a little skeptical of her abilities. Which causes me to be skeptical of him.

This is not my first book by Broadwell and not the first book in this series. I had been told that it could be read as a stand-alone but I disagree. I felt like I was missing something. The connection to the characters felt forced and that may be due to their back story that I should have read about in the previous book(s). I mean really this IS book 6…With all that into consideration this story was still easy to read. There are a few eccentric characters in this story, which makes for a fun read as well.

I look forward to reading the other books in this series. I recommend you take a chance on this author but start with the first book in this series, Murder in Plain Sight.

Claimed RoyaltyClaimed Royalty by Betty Shreffler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow what a story! This is my first story by Shreffler and I don’t know what took me so long to read her. Claimed Royalty is set in a futuristic world where a princess is becoming a queen. A world where she must prove her strength and intelligence. A world where she must choose a king to rule with her.

This story was so good from the very first chapter. We are introduced to Fiora. She is the princess on the verge of change. I love Fiora’s fierceness. Her devotion and her all around greatness. And then there’s Matheas. Oh man is this one yummy character. He is the total package, except he is not of a Royal House. Which simply means he can not be King, right?

This story is full of surprises. I recommend this to those readers over 18 because there are some sexy scenes. Some very sexy scenes.

The Inheritance by India Kells – Review by Shannon Fowler

The InheritanceThe Inheritance by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! This is definitely not a story I can relate to! If a person in the real world went to a stranger’s house and did the things that Lani did with Max there would be charges against both of them, an arrest made, feelings hurt and possible an even a death or two. SO glad India Kells can write a story that takes us away from the real world!

I love this story and I am only at Chapter 6. Fast forward to the end of the story and guess what?! The rest of the story was just as amazing!

Lani and Max are strong characters. The story line is original. The entire story so entertaining. Can not wait to read more from India Kells.

Recommended for readers over the age of 18 since there are risqué situations.

Coming Home by Jane Suen by Shannon Fowler

COMING HOME (Flowers in December, #2)COMING HOME by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another well written story by Jane Suen. Coming Home is the sequel to Flowers in December. Connor has returned to his childhood home after the death of his mother. He rekindles some relationships with those from his past. And hopes to rekindle a relationship with Mary Ann.

As is usual with Jane Suen’s stories is the underlying “moral of the story”. After reading this story I am left wondering which relationships I should go and “fix”.

I suggest reading Flowers in December, so you get a better feel for Connor and the situations that made him the way he is.

CLAIMED (The Torzial Affair Book 3)CLAIMED by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Am I the only one that wants a billionaire stud with a playroom who insists on taking care of all of my problems while tending to my every sexual desire? Anyone? I am not alone? Good. So that’s the fantasy part of this story. But that’s a good thing. The rest of the story is about more trust than ever. Jenny needs to trust Brian even more than in book 2. Oh, and yes you must read the first two books before this one.

I really liked this story, in fact this whole series. Brian and Jenny are put to the test through the accusation of Ty’s death, through fighting the Mafia and even through fighting jealous people.

Mari’s writing style keeps the story flowing. Mixing sexual adventure with the mystery of the Mafia makes for an interesting read. I look forward to what else Mari brings us.

Bound (The Torzial Affair Book 2)Bound by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the Torzial Affair series. Jenny and Brian are back right where book one left off and things get steamier, secondary characters get sneakier, and everyone’s trust gets tested.

We all know Jenny suffered at the hands of Ty. Now that Ty is dead you would think that Jenny’s life would be a little easier, but no, apparently the police seem to think that Jenny has killed Ty and Mari has to throw in a few more twists to test both Jenny and Brain.

I liked this book better than the first and can’t wait to see where book 3 takes us!

The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery – Review by Shannon Fowler

The Light at DawnThe Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thankfully this review is being written on a laptop and not paper, because after reading this story last week my tears are just now stopping enough to type. My heart is heavy with sadness. But my heart also has room for hope. This story hits close to home, as I have school aged children as well as a gun in our home. Of course, it is safely put away from these teen-aged children. This story really touches on a few different, hard to talk about situations. Situations we see in the real world. The names may have been changed but this could be a story about you, me or even someone we know.

I have read Montgomery before but never have I ever read such a well written story. Never has any of her books made my heart feel like it does now.

Please go buy this book, even if you can’t read it just yet. Have it waiting for you when you need to let your tears fall. Have it knowing that there is a fantastic story waiting when you are ready. You won’t be sorry.

Surviving Grace: Book Five by Virginia Wine – Review by Shannon Fowler

Surviving Grace: Book Five ( Surviving Series)Surviving Grace: Book Five by Virginia Wine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“And most of all, you’ve taught me happiness can only be found within yourself, and to look to others to enhance the happiness you already have.”

This quote is from Surviving Grace by Virginia Wine. It is true for any one, in any situation.

Surviving Grace is the conclusion to Grace’s story which started in Hard as Steel. This series has many characters that over-lap into each book, so I suggest starting with book one in the Surviving Series.

I enjoyed reading this story. Virginia Wine is a good storyteller. Telling Grace’s story couldn’t have been easy, but Wine did it. Wine shows how being happy is in our control and others around us are simply there to help us grow.

I recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Virginia Wine.

Eight Steps to Alpha by Taylor Sullivan – Review by Shannon Fowler

Eight Steps to Alpha (Nerdy by Nature, #1)Eight Steps to Alpha by Taylor Sullivan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My first book by Taylor Sullivan couldn’t have had a better start! Eight Steps to Alpha is predictable in the way you would expect a friends to lovers story to be. However, the actual plot, turning a “nerd” into an “alpha” is something you don’t read about every day. I believe Elliot and most men have a little bit of nerd and a little bit of alpha already in them. Sullivan just had Fe show Elliot how he could be all that he was meant to be.

This story was easy and fun to read. I look forward to reading more from Sullivan.

Hard as Steel: Book four (Hard as Steel: Book four by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hard as Steel is book four in the Surviving series. This story can be read as a standalone. After reading the first 3 books in this series, I can say that this story takes a darker twist than the others. There are a few characters in this story along with different situations for each person. The situation Grace finds herself in could be triggers for some readers. Flynn’s protectiveness is greater than anything. While Nic and Steel have a working relationship, a respect for each other, and an attraction they have been fighting for a while.

Author Virginia Wine has created another great story with great characters. This storyline took my breath away as I read it as fast as I could.

This story is definitely worth reading.

Shattered by Via Mari – Review by Shannon Fowler

Shattered (The Torzial Affair Book 1)Shattered by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Many reviews for this book said that the Prestian Series should be read first. I don’t always believe other people. This time I was right. This story can be read without the other series. However, will I go read it? Yes. Yes I will, but only because I like the way this author writes.

Shattered is about Brian and Jenny. I love the commonness of these names. I have read many books where the names are so far-fetched I often wondered if the author just threw letters together. Brian and Jenny meet at a wedding, this is where that other series comes into play. The bride and groom are the main characters from that series. But, again, you really don’t have to know their story. So, Brian and Jenny have an instant attraction and they actually start to act upon it but Jenny has a flash back and ends up running. We later discover why she ran and what was going through her mind. In fact, most of the story is about her healing and learning to trust Brian. Brian wants nothing more to show her new ways to trust him. Of course, it’s not going to be easy. What good relationship is all rainbows and glitter! Especially when the two in the relationship aren’t ready for one.

This book has situations that may cause triggers in some readers. However, it is a good story and while the ending isn’t the greatest, it does make me want to hurry up and one click the next book!

The Ash Park Series had to start somewhere. The Ed Petrosky we know and love had to be shaped by something in his past. Salvation explains how Ed came to be. Salvation keeps you guessing as to where and who the evil really is.

O’Flynn is a master of storytelling. My go to genre is usually romance, however, when-ever there’s an Ash Park story I am there, ready to read. Ed Petrosky is my favorite detective character.

This story is a quick read. Action packed from the start to the finish. I highly recommend this story and this entire series.

Not So Broken (Love Grows Series, # 1)Not So Broken by Renee Regent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was so sweet and really good. Everything was evenly paced until we got to about 90% and then it seemed like a race to the finish. The characters, Gibson and Sacha, acted like they just realized the credits were going to roll and they needed to get everything in before the end. The ending was everything I hoped it would be and I enjoyed the overall story!

The main male character, Gibson, oh he is manly, strong, smart and when understands and cherishes Sacha’s strong and independent character, he is even more dreamy!

“She was a beautiful, strong woman who didn’t need a man. Yet here she was, leaving me in control of her pleasure.”

The main female character, Sacha, is smart, independent, bold and beautiful. She knows what she wants.

While this was my first book by this author I am trying to patiently wait for the next story.

McKinley has written another story about the guys and girls that make up the Gray Ghost group. This story is a great adventure of who to trust, who to believe and how to stay alive. Hannah is a tough woman. She knows what she is doing and how to get the job done. But McKinley helps us to believe that Hannah may not be the good guy. Foxxy Christmas by Allyson R Abbott is just one story in this anthology that I loved! This story is about a woman named Foxxy. She could be your sister, aunt, or just someone you know. She’s down on her luck and has turned to the streets to pay her bills. She longs for a way out. Enters a tall dark stranger. When they make eye contact, the sparks ignite. These two characters plan quite the adventure of revenge. As always, Abbott has written a worthy story.

A Kiss Under A Blue Christmas Moon by Tamara Ferguson is another story in this anthology that helped with the five-star rating. This story is about Mia and Noah and their young love. Lisa Sorbe has a new fan! Me! I loved this story! I could feel Elena’s pain from the first page. I can relate to her pain and waiting to drink away the pain is something many can relate to. Learning to deal with the tough decisions in life makes a person stronger than they think they really are.

This story was easy to read and follow. However, the process of letting loved ones go is not easy. Ever. “The house looks alone, so cold and empty, and I shudder. It’s how I feel…”

The secondary characters are amazing as well. Corrine has the best words of wisdom. “You can’t make people feel any different than they’re gonna feel. And you can’t make beat yourself up for not being able to change ‘em, either.”

This is a story about the perils of war and life in general. The sweet heartbreaking reality of war and the sweet heartbreaking reality of life. For the Love of Laura Beth is a story about effects of war on the young men and their families in the 1950’s, which is still pretty relevant to today. It’s also about family. Important then. Important now. This is a heartbreaking story about love and loss; hope and survival. This story is too real.

“You’re not the first and won’t be the last to feel forsaken.”

This story involves a twist that wasn’t expected, turning this story from a general heartbreak to an ugly cry heartbreak. But the power of love is there to pull us through.

“I was so afraid of the pain, but I’ll miss all the joy.”

This story was a slow Sunday afternoon type of read and that’s why the twist hits so hard. Great, simple caring characters.

I was a little lost at the beginning as I didn’t know the character or the situation, however that lost feeling quickly went away as I joined Emeline on an incredible adventure through time. Reading about a time traveling witch, is something new to me, but something I certainly enjoyed reading.

This was an easy to read book with some characters that were helpful to Emeline and some that I wished she had used her magic on. I enjoyed reading this story so much that I plan to get book one, A Witch in Time Saves Nine.
