Secure Desire: A Chase Group Story by R.L. Dunn – Review by Sheri Schrader

Secure DesireSecure Desire by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Secure Desire by R. L. Dunn is from the A Chase Group Series. I was drawn in because Cassiopeia, the main female character, has a history of being an art historian. Also, what a fantastic name. Ian is at the head of a private security firm after serving in Afghanistan. The two had met years before and have been brought back together. Ian will do anything to protect Cassiopeia. I was reading to find out how an art historian had gotten herself into so much danger. I really enjoyed the story and the characters and hope to see more of them in future books. This has a little bit of something for anyone who likes a good suspense book.

Secure Again: A Chase Group StorySecure Again: A Chase Group Story by R. L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Secure Again by R. L. Dunn is the second book in the Chase Group series. Dr. Elizabeth Reed is a surgeon who is seeing some odd things at the hospital where she works. Her past comes back to her in Martin Bailey, whose brother she is treating for a gunshot wound. The two set out in separate investigations but still get drawn back together. This is a good story that is full of suspense, mystery, and romance. I was drawn into the story and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on for Dr. Reed and Martin’s cases. I liked there were separate stories but they intertwined. I also enjoyed the characters. I look forward to reading more in this series soon.

Edge of the Storm by Lisette Kristensen is the second book in the Silent Secrets series. This is a short story that packs a punch. I really am enjoying seeing the transformation and growth of the character Blackbird. Also, despite the short length, there is a lot of story told. The Immigrant: An Italian in America by Gaia B Amman is from the Woman Scientist novel 1, The Italian Saga series. Leda is on her way to the United States for a year of graduate studies to continue on her career path of cancer research. I have enjoyed reading about Leda and her adventures in past books and this was a great continuation of the story. Leda is smart and funny. Her story tells a realistic perspective of uprooting her life to continue on her path. I enjoyed the story and the new characters brought into Leda’s life. I like the relatability of the story and look forward to reading more in Leda’s adventure in the future.

Wild Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells – Review by Sheri Schrader

Wild BastardWild Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wild Bastard by India Kells is the third book in A Dark Sparrow series. This tells the story of Kai and Isabel. Kai is trying to take down his father’s business and in the process runs into his past. Isabel after breaking his heart in the past has become a strong woman who has a life and secrets of her own. Will the two find their happily ever after?
Like the other books in the series, this can be read as a standalone. I have enjoyed not only this one but the others as well. Characters overlap and it is nice to get Kai’s story. I enjoyed the characters and wanted to see everything work out for them. The problems they encounter are crazy at times but seem to bring them closer and in a better understanding of one another. I enjoyed this book and look forward to others from this author.

Impact (Twisted Hearts Love Story #4) by Autumn Sand – Review by Sheri Schrader

Impact (A Twisted Hearts Love Story book 4)Impact by Autumn Sand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Impact by Autumn Sand is the fourth book in A Twisted Hearts Love Story. This can be read as a standalone book but better enjoyed read in order. Each book features a story of one of the main characters but they all carry over to each other’s stories. This book is finally the story of Manny. He has met his love match but what happens when his past comes calling back?
I love the characters as I did with the other books. Manny is interesting and it is great to get his backstory and where he has ended up. The story alternates between Manny and Zoe. It is great to get both sides of the story. This has highs and lows pushing the story forward. I really enjoyed the emotion and how it progressed in the story. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie – Review by Sheri Schrader

Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil SeriesDeath and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Death and the Crone by Megan Mackie is the third book in the Lucky Devils series. This is a book with a cool twist to the typical YA paranormal story. Margaret is an older, homeless woman who has been burned many times. She is invited to a strangers house and does not expect that she will live the night. The story is interesting and kept me reading to find out what would come of Margaret and the mysterious stranger. I have read the other books in the series but I believe this could be enjoyed without having read them first. The story is set in Chicago but with a paranormal twist. The idea of the familiar but unfamiliar all at once leads to an interesting background for this book and the others. The characters are also interesting and break some of the molds of the genre. I look forward to reading more in this series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

That’s a Wrap by Heather Silvio is the third book in the Paranormal Talent Agency. I was glad to get back to this series. This book is about nixie Mia, who is a producer with her lead actor dying in an unusual way. She decides she will help Jacob, a Las Vegas detective, solve the murder. This series is fun and a fast read. The stories are all linked but each features a different character. I really like Mia and the sparks she has with Jacob.
My big curiosity is too see where the underlying story is going and which characters will be introduced next. This is a fun series with a paranormal twist.

Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend #2) by Nicole Flockton – Review by Sheri Schrader

Next Door Knight (Man's Best Friend #2)Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton is the second book in the Man’s Best Friend series. These are standalone stories and you will not be lost if you read this before book 1. Kerry is running on all cylinders when Willow, her dog, gets away from her. Caleb finds Kerry’s dog and is the rest history?
You have to read the story to find out if Willow has helped make a love match between Kerry and Caleb. This is a sweet story with a good message about the importance of caring for the family. I liked the growth of the character of Caleb as he dealt with his demons and who could ever resist Willow, a cute therapy dog for veterans. I liked Kerry in the beginning but she wore on me in the end. I wanted to see a transformation in her as I saw in Caleb. But overall I liked her and her devotion to her father. This story was a good read and kept me reading to the end. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

The Vampire Queen (Wheel of Crowns Book 3)The Vampire Queen by Brandi Elledge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Vampire Queen by Brandi Elledge is the third book in the Wheel of Crowns series. This time we get the story of Tandi, a newly made vampire, who is the worst vampire ever. She is not keen on following the directions of the Prince of Vampires and so how has gotten herself between him and the Queen of Vampires, who wants her Prince back. Like the other books in the series, the story flows and is easy to read. I like the characters because there is always good banter and conversation that help to guide the story. Tandi is great. She remembers her humanity and this often gets her into situations. I really have enjoyed this series and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift by Lisette Kristensen is the first book in the Silent Secrets series. This is a short, powerful read that had me enjoying the story from beginning to end. Sloane started life as part of a mafia family but grows and progresses into the life of a spy. The story moves quickly but is filled with lots of story. I felt like this was a lot in a small package. I really liked Sloane and I enjoyed seeing her progression. She changed her life completely because of her circumstances letting nothing hold her back. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Perfectly Played by Holly Kerr is a sweet romantic story. Flora (great name) is a flower shop owner who has a runaway bride moment. She runs directly into Dean in her escape. What will brew between the two of them? This was a quick, fun romantic read. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. Flora is funny and cute. Dean is sweet and chivalrous. Both challenge the other but in a good way. The two go through and start fast but later become friends and more. I really wanted them to have their happily ever after.

Cold Bastard by India Kells is the second book in the Dark Sparrow series. I was really looking forward to reading this after reading the first book and I was not disappointed. The story is about Zoe Somersby and Archer Blackwood. Zoe had been brought in to work for Archer as an undercover agent.
The characters are well written and allowed the story to flow. There was lots of suspense and mystery as well as a little romance. I really like this is a well thought out story and the characters are interesting people. Everyone is not always what one would assume. Misfortune of Vision by Christy Nicholas is the fourth book in the Druid’s Brooch series. I like this series because the books can be read in any order and still enjoyed. The story has a continuing theme in a 12th-century Irish setting. I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Orlagh is a seer who has set out on a mission of her own. She is trying to find an heir for her Druid’s brooch.
This story is well written and the story, characters, and setting drew me in and I did not want to put the book down. I really look forward to reading more in this series and going on more explorations with the characters over the centuries.

Sean runs a haunted tour company and lives off of the supernatural. Emily doesn’t believe in the supernatural but feels a pull in the direction of Sean.
The dialogue and story between Sean and Emily are good. The setting of New Orleans adds itself well. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this series and author in the future.

The Werewolf Queen by Brandi Elledge is the first book in the Wheel of Crowns series. Sadie is turning 18 and it isn’t the typical 18th birthday. There are werewolves, vampires, and witches. Not your average birthday at least for a mere mortal. This is a fun start to a series and really enjoyable to read. Sadie is smart, funny, and tough.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. There was a nice flow to the story and I was not sure where the story would ultimately go. I really look forward to reading more from this series in the near future.

PJ is fantastic character that is easy to relate and fun and feisty. She gets herself in situations but is smart enough to figure out what needs to be done or to get help from PI Tango Daly. I really have enjoyed this series. It moves at a quick pace and is fun and with some suspense. I like the mix of humor and the characters all play a part in the story. Hell on Heels by Lynne Russell is the first of the PJ Santini series and I hope to see many more to come. This is a fun read that had me laughing as well as some suspense and a mystery to untangle. I liked there was a good combination of the two. PJ is a great character. She is tough but also loves her shoes. I like that she makes fun of herself and can handle that she might be running in circles at times.
The two primary men in her life are Tango Daly and Johnny Renza. Tango is her steamy boss at the PI investigations office she does work at while Johnny is her lifelong temptation at the news studio. The two are a great contrast and add to PJ’s character and the story. I really enjoy a book where I get immersed and enjoy myself. This was a great read and I look forward to reading more from Lynne Russell in the future.

After Hurricane Nina, Rand's Resolution (Hot Hunks-Steamy Romance Collection)After Hurricane Nina, Rand’s Resolution by Tamara Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After Hurricane Nina, Rand’s Resolution by Tamara Ferguson is the eighth book in the Hot Hunks-Steamy Romance Collection. This is a cool collection of stories where each is written by a different author and tells a different story. This can be read as a standalone and you will not feel like you are missing key information.
This book is about Rand. He has a reputation as a trust fund playboy. Now he is living in Bali and working for some covert work. Ciara has arrived and remembers Rand from their teen years. She cannot believe he has changed as much as she has heard.
I like the characters of Rand and Ciara. Both are interesting and I like the military backgrounds of both. I have read this author before and like her storytelling ability and how the stories always have a good flow. This book was no different. Everything is not always an easy, cheesy rom-com but with an actual plot and substance to the characters and story. I will be looking for more from this author in the future.

A Person Could Disappear HereA Person Could Disappear Here by Terri George
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Person Could Disappear Here by Terri George is an amazing read. This story had me on the edge of my seat at points and trying to figure out all the puzzles. The story is told from two points of views. First, is Abbey, who has traveled to meet a man she met online. The second is from the view of Cristina. She is Abbey’s friend and is set to find Abbey when she doesn’t return from meeting the man. I will not say more about the plot specifically. Just know that this is an emotional read and the author put research in to get to the heart of the subject. I was kept wondering how everything would play out in the end. The subject is tough but I believe it was handled well and kept realistic. I am going to be on the lookout for more from this author in the future.
