A Curse of Ash and Iron by Christine Norris – Review by Tausha Treadway

A Curse of Ash and IronA Curse of Ash and Iron by Christine Norris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Curse of Ash and Iron by Christine Norris. This is such a fun retelling of Cinderella with a touch of Steampunk thrown in. Its the story of Ellie who has had a spell cast on her by her evil step mother. She and her dad have different spells and her spell causes her to have to live like a servant at her own home. She is friends with her stepsister which made me happy because she had one ally in her home. Her best friend that she hasn’t seen in years, Benjamin, has come back and been reunited with her. Now this story takes place in the late 1800’s so there are strict rules as far as men and women go. Now Benjamin sets out to try to get this curse reversed and he will do everything he can to help Ellie. Now if this spell is not broken by midnight she will forever be a servant in her own home and have no hopes of love or happiness. This is such a fun retelling and I’m sure young adults and even older adults like me will enjoy it!

Three Women in November by Jim Shomos – Review by Tausha Treadway

Three Women in November  Women in November by Jim Shomos
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Three Women in November by Jim Shomos. This is such a great romance and very different from any I’ve read. Its actually based on a true story of a divorced man with 3 boys who lives in Australia. He finally has decided to find love and move on with his his life. He meets Zoya on a business trip and is immediately infatuated with her. She is not into Leo as much as he’s into her so after a bit they decide to call it quits. Next he meets Aysha who is his therapist and everyone knows that’s not a good idea. She lets him know that he doesn’t love himself and that is why he can’t love anyone else. She helps him to see that unhealed scars leak over to all your relationships if you don’t heal. He starts to think she might be the one but due to client/therapist rules they can’t date. Next we meet Jade who is in the same line of work as him. Jade is still in her marriage but it is not going to make it. She has all kinds of baggage and looking to change herself to move on. All of these women have one thing in common, telling Leo he’s not ready for a relationship so Leo realizes maybe he needs to work on himself first before starting a new relationship. This book was so fun and a lot different than most romances so I truly enjoyed it.

Where Fire Meets Flame (Yours From The Ashes Book 1) by Elena Kincaid – Review by Tausha Treadway

Where Fire Meets Flame (Yours From the Ashes, #1)Where Fire Meets Flame by Elena Kincaid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Where Fire Meets Flame (Yours From The Ashes Book 1) by Elena Kincaid. This is such a good slow burn romance. Its a short steamy read and if this 1st book is any indication of the next in the series I’m ready! Riley is a private investigator who finds other spouses or partners when they are cheating so she is in no hurry to find romance. When she meets Tristan the hot firefighter she is very attracted and he is as well but neither of them show it. Tristan has a crazy ex so he’s not ready for another relationship. When they finally do slow down and get to know one another they truly like each other and it gets very steamy very fast. I finished this book in one sitting and it was so good. I can’t wait til the next book in the series and hopefully I’ll be cooled down enough from this one to read it!

To try to get her mind off of the tragedy she accepts an invitation to stay at a remote resort. Ten Thousand Shells and Counting: A Memoir (Teenage War Survival Book 1) by Nadija Mujagic. This is such a moving Memoir of a young girl living in Sarajevo during its 1990s war. Living as a teenager in this war torn Country causes her to grow up much differently than other teens. She is thrown into the Country’s political differences and how the war cause neighbors to go against neighbors. Her family eventually has to flee her home and find shelter across town. She shares how her family and herself went without food and clothing for a long time and the struggle of trying to find food. We in American take so much for granted never having to go thru turmoil like this. She also shares how she did normal teen things too like sneaking cigarettes and staying out to late. This is a very sad but moving story that I think we all should read to realize how good we have it here!

Non-Verbal by Molly Zenk – Review by Tausha Treadway

NonVerbalNonVerbal by Molly Zenk
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Non-Verbal by Molly Zenk. This book was a eye opening, emotional, amazing read. Its about a young girl named Emerson who at the super young age of 15 months lost all ability to speak. She was also diagnosed with Autism at the same time. On top of Autism she was also diagnosed with having sensory issues and a intellectual disability. When a child has a disability it effects everyone in that child’s life and this book documents that. This story takes us on the journey of Emerson as she functions in her own way in this crazy world. It has to be so hard to be talked about and understanding what they are saying but not being able to respond. Emerson is very lucky in the fact that her parents are strong advocates for her and will fight until their last day for her. This book opened my eyes to the hard road that children with disabilities have along with their families. I cried several times thru this read. It is written so wonderfully to make you actually feel what this child and parents are going thru.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Breach of Trust (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 8 ) by Cynthia Hamilton. This series and this author have quickly become my favorites! Each one of these books I read I say its my favorite. I do suggest reading them in order so that you get the best experience. In this book Madeline & Mike get three new cases. One involves her dad’s Senior living Center where mystery letters are going around and some are very dark. The next case is about a missing girl who has escaped from a cult and is trying to lay low. The 3rd and final case is about a man and woman going thru a ugly divorce and he is trying to hide all his money and belongings so that she won’t get any of it. Since there are so many cases and so little time they decide to split up and of course mayhem ensues. I have loved every one of these books and I can’t wait to read the next one. Be sure to be prepared to read until you are finished because they will suck you in.

Other People’s Money (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 7) by Cynthia Hamilton. I love this series so much I don’t want it to end. Each book is so good and each one I read is my new favorite. These can be read as standalone’s but I recommend reading them in order to get the most out of them. In this book we find Madeline taking on 3 very time sensitive cases at the same time. These 3 cases are all intertwined with one another but they aren’t aware of that at the time. In one case Jane, Madeline’s best friend asks her for help because her husband has been accused of embezzlement. In another someone has come up missing and in the third a older gentleman has become entwined with a woman that his family and friends believe to be a gold digger. Of course anytime Madeline is involved things go awry and her husband has to always help her out. Missing people, money and a gold digger all in one book. What more could you ask for.
