Isle of Wings: A Silverglen Companion Novel
By E.A. Burnett. Fantasy isn’t my first choice but I like switching things up from time to time and I really glad I did. This story definitely has me rethinking my views on what I like to read. The author does a wonderful job of writing a story that had me turning the pages as fast as possible to see where things would go next. The characters pulled me into their world with ease and I enjoyed the time I got to send with them. The storyline was unique and different while still feeling kinda comforting somehow I know that may seem like a weird choice of words but there it is. I’m definitely looking forward to more from this author and I highly recommend this book four stars all the way! If you come across this one don’t hesitate just get it you won’t be disappointed.

The author continues the Silverglen adventure in another epic fantasy tome. The world building was substantial and I really enjoyed getting to know Roana and Iniko through this storyline. The scale to which this story transcends is one I believe that will appeal to readers of most genres, even if fantasy might not be a reader’s first pick. Beautiful detail, complete character development, good pacing, just extremely well written. Loved every page and hope to continue reading more from this author and of this series.

Isle of Wings is the companion novel to Silverglen by E.A Burnett. It’s a great YA fantasy that’s full of magic, self-discovery, mystery, danger, good vs evil, action, adventure, sorceress, and more.
Again, Ms. Burnett has proved to be a superb storyteller, created a beautiful and believable world in which she sets her captivating story, adding skilfully crafted characters who lead us on an enthralling journey of discovery and adventure.
Roana wants to escape the pain of her past- with her sights set on the Isle of Wings- but she will discover that isn’t going to be quite so easy- she’s about to be tested far more than she ever has before. The stakes are high, and she has a lot to lose. Iniko proves to be a valuable companion, and an asset to her quest. But in the end there can be only one choice- and either way her life will never be the same.
Fascinating!

Thank You, Ms. Burnett!

Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian (Italian Teens novel 1, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B. Amman – Review by Netania Lim

Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian (The Italian Saga #3)Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is a young adult romance set in 1990s Italy. There is a lot of teenage drama and angst, which I don’t really like to be perfectly honest, because it just seems really superficial, like they’re too young, and there just wasn’t really much plot. I appreciated a lot of what the main character Leda feels in that it speaks to the realities of life as a teenage girl and the mess of relationships and is thus insightful. At the same time, the pacing is a bit off and the relationship between Leda and her mother Starry isn’t explored as much as I would have liked. Nevertheless, I enjoyed following Leda’s journey, having read Book #2.

This was such an exciting read following Leda in her young teenage years. My hurt for her at the start of the book with the bullying but I felt like she handled it well. Leda is such an amazing girl to follow. I love her character. This book was a delightful read and a change from my regular genre. I highly recommend this book as well as the other books featuring Leda.

Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian (The Italian Saga #3)Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Forget Nico is a coming of age love story of Leda, a tom boyish girl who is desperately in love with a cool boy at school. I did not know that the story is not the first in the series, so it took me a while to adjust to the pace of the book and the characters. The book predominantly deals with all the elements of adolescence, crushes, embarrassments, successes and failures.
The teens think they have figured it out all, but how they react to everything happening around them and their imperfections is very insightful. This is typically recommended for teenagers, who read books of the type of Adrian Mole.
The use of Italian words in the expression and conversation adds a flavor to the book. It’s a very fast read, but though they say this book is a standalone. I felt this book picks up from it’s prequels. The personality of the lead character is already well established, and this book defines her loyalty to someone whom she had liked a lot, and now he is in trouble and she is struggling with her emotions to believe it or not.
Overall, a fast pace light read !

Forget Nico by Gaia B. Amman was a really good novel. It grabbed me, but it did take a little bit to hold my attention. I’m sure it’s just because the ages of the characters, but all the characters seemed very whiny to me. Great characters though! Well mostly great, minus the cheaters. They all had big personalities, which I loved! This is the second novel I’ve read from the Amman and I can’t wait to read more from the Italian series!

Gumshoe and the Mysterious Mushrooms is the first book in the Gumshoe Mysteries series by Laura Hawks. I was taken with this book the moment I laid eyes on the beautiful cover- and as I had read several of Ms. Hawks’ books before, and had really enjoyed them, getting this one was a no-brainer.
It is a YA mystery, with is a paranormal elements, action, adventure, humour, fun, and a bit of whimsy. The story was intriguing, even though it was a little predictable in parts, and even though it is targeted towards younger readers- I still really enjoyed it.
The characters are well developed, fully realised, quirky, and entirely interesting. This is a very original, fun, quick, and easy read- it has a pretty fast pace and a smooth flow- which enabled me to devour the book very quickly.
Ms. Hawks has always intrigued me with her clever storylines, and this story was no different. I loved meeting Mia, but particularly Gumshoe- who really stole the show.
My favourite of Ms. Hawks’ books, so far!

Thank you, Ms. Hawks!

Gumshoe and the Mysterious Mushrooms is the first book in the Gumshoe Mysteries Series by Laura Hawks. This teen mystery book was a good read and held me until the very end. Instead of getting upset, she sets out with her new found friend to help her family and spare the family name. But now the only question is, will her snooping help her or be the end of Mia? By Laura Hawks

Gumshoe And the Mysterious Mushrooms is book one in the Gumshoe Mysteries by Laura Hawks. Ok so I struggled a little with this book, but it was by no fault of the author as this book has been written perfectly. While this is not for me the younger audience are absolutely going to love it, they will also love the pace this book moves at. The book is centred around a 15-year-old girl by the name of Mia Thomas. Not only does Mia’s teacher need to speak to her parents, her father gets arrested and she makes friends with a cat named Gumshoe. If that isn’t enough, she has the knack of talking to and understanding cats. Mia and Gumshoe join forces to try and work out what on earth is going on with her family. Will they find out what is behind her fathers arrest? And what lays before them while they try and work out the issues.

Mia has a whole truckload of unpleasant dumped on her for her birthday but girl doesn’t miss a beat. She knows she is in one of the roughest of situations she’ll probably ever face, but she’s not going to let a trivial thing like that stop her from figuring out why her world has been turned upside down. She’ll clear her family’s name and that’s all there is to it.

I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book but the cover and synopsis drew me in and then while reading it had me hooked and I literally read this in one sitting.

It was quick, easy to read because the words flowed perfectly, clean, suspenseful, fun, and was just what I was looking for at the time. I am impressed with how this book was written, I loved everything about it and actually am figuring out how many copies I need to buy for a few of my grandchildren who I believe would love this as much as I did.

I fell in love with Gumshoe and can not wait to read more of this series. Mia was awesome and not your normal 15 year old, and I loved the ladies …Eve (Mia’s Mom), Donna, Marion, and Kelly…This was just an all around great book and I can’t recommend it enough especially if you like a good mystery.

Awesome!!
