The Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney – Review by Emma Morreale

The Dirty RoosterThe Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was not too enamored with the beginning of this story. Preston seemed like a complete misogynist and a total creep in some of his interactions with Summer. Some of it was just to get under the skin of Jenny but that doesn’t really make it better. He’s a rich boy with daddy issues but he genuinely wants to be a good person.
Summer seemed like a smart girl who makes out of character bad decisions. She repeatedly says she’s done trying to convert bad boys but doesn’t stick to it. Jenny reminded me of a similar type of friend.
The characters grew on me as I read more and as they all grew. It could just be that it was brilliant character development but it almost put me off the whole book. With that said, I’m glad I continued and I will look for the next in the series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kelly Mooney has given us the Dirty Rooster, a romance filled with wittiness, Deceit, angst, chemistry and growth of two amazing characters that have a way of growing on you, Preston and Summer. Hilton Head is there Preston loves spending his summers working at his family’s hotel bar called The Dirty Rooster. While not working he has the girls willing and able to jump in and out of his bed and when it comes to commitment, he runs. He has his dream and his trust fund and no room for any gold diggers in his life. From the outside, Preston seems like the “town whore” but deep down, he knows there is something missing in his life. He knows that his life cannot always be like this and he’s not sure where to start to get the life he wants on track. Then enters Summer!
Summer and her best friend Jenny come to Hilton Head to work, Summer us fresh out of college and has dreams and needs to money to make it all happen. Summer is the opposite of Preston, she wants a relationship and will not be anyone’s one night stand but also wants to have fun as this is her last summer to be carefree. She meets Preston and is not impressed at all with him, while Preston is thrown when he sees that Summer hasn’t fallen to his feet and he sees her as a challenge, and Preston loves a challenge.
This book, I was able to laugh, I was able to swoon, sometimes I got mad, but overall I simply loved this book. As being a new reader to this author, I can say I love her writing style and her attention to building strong characters. I will not hesitate to read more from her in the future!

Dreams aren’t supposed to have an expiration date…

Preston Ellington spends long summer days on Hilton Head at his family’s hotel bar, slinging Dirty Rooster shots to half-naked women who eagerly jump into his bed for the promise of an equally dirty night. That’s the only promise he’ll make, since anything else will interfere with his plans. Commitment? The word leaves a worse taste in his mouth than a Dirty Rooster.

He has a dream and a trust fund. The last thing he needs is some gold-digger trying to sink her claws into his future.

Summer Fallon fled her hometown in New Jersey as soon as she had her college diploma in hand. She arrives in Hilton Head with one goal – to make as much money as possible without distractions in the form of sleazy bartenders who take home a different girl every night. Her job as a hotel maid sure isn’t glamorous, considering the marathon sex fests she needs to clean up afterward in the penthouse, but it’s going to jumpstart her new life.

Because she also has a dream…

But sometimes, bad judgement can destroy those dreams.

And once they are shattered, can they ever really be made whole again?

The Dirty Rooster written by Kelly Mooney is a new adult romance book. This is my first read by this author and it was amazing I loved the characters and their quirks but also the storyline is amazing. The easy flow between the characters and the secondary characters where great. I simple loved this story.

Will Preston let his walls down for Summer? Can Summer see behind Preston’s facade? Will they have a happily ever after or will everything blow up in their faces?
I simply loved this easy read and can’t wait to get my hands on more of Ms. Mooney’s books….

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kelly Mooney’s The Dirty Rooster is a laugh til you drop romantic comedy. The hilarious moments written within this story were falling quickly from the pages and it was hard not to snicker/chuckle as you read through it. The author did a remarkable job with the humorous overlay within the story, while creating a romance that snuck in and struck without remorse. The characters were fun, creative, snarky and just perfect for this particular story.

The Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney – Review by Liz Vrchota

The Dirty RoosterThe Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am so unsure of where to start with this novel from Kelly Mooney. I had never picked anything of hers up before so she was a new author to me. I was pretty intrigued by the synopsis and bright and slightly steamy cover candy, so I decided to give this a shot. Now, I won’t say I hated it, because there were some pretty strong and good ideas played out in the book, just maybe not quite everything that I had hoped it would have been.

The first major issue for me was the main male character, Preston. What a skank. I say skank because this man is everything that makes a woman cringe on a bad date. Despite his good looks, overwhelming riches, and outgoing personality, he still manages to make me want to throw up a little in my mouth. Preston continuously made me think of a phrase my grandmother used to say… “That man has legs in every corner of the town.” I know not the classiest thing, but hey, Preston is far from it to begin with, and this is sadly true. He is a womanizer and he has a new conquest in his bed at the end of each day.

With all that said, Preston is well aware of his lack of substance and quality in his lifestyle. He knows that there is something missing, or someone, he just isn’t sure when he will find it. Boom, predictable and a bit more of the disappointing factor, he meets the sassy Summer, and she is the one he has been looking for.
Summer is a strong willed woman. I felt that she was justified in her wariness of Preston and I totally get it. However, when Preston proves every worry wrong Summer is still a stubborn pain in the bum. I kind of wanted to give her a wake-up call several times. Sometimes, people deserve a second chance, especially when they try so hard to prove that they are trying to change for the better. I get that there is turmoil but I was frustrated with her the majority of the time.

I am glad that I stuck it out to see what would happen in the end. It did come to a conclusion that I could live with and fairly much enjoyed. I will definitely be interested in seeing what else is available from Kelly Mooney in the future. Especially, if she avoids the overzealous man skank issues. Overall for the writing strength that did keep me reading till the end, the final pieces coming together to help ease the pain of the process, and the happy ending I am still impressed with a four star read.

The Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney – Review by Angela Hayes

4 Stars

The Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney is a contemporary romance with drama, humour, secrets, lies, suspense, angst, a lot of push-pull, sexual tension, chemistry, jealousy, discoveries, truth, and romance.

Summer Fallon and her best friend Jenny are spending the summer working at an upmarket hotel right on the beachfront of Hilton Head Island. They may be cleaning maids, but Summer has big dreams and she really needs this income to kick start the next stage of her life. Having recently graduated with a degree in Business and Marketing, this will probably be the last chance she will get to let her hair down for a while, too. Summer is a hopeless romantic, who is looking for a genuine relationship- not just hooking- up with random men. But her friend Jenny has other ideas, and suggests making the most of their time on the Island, including a one-night-stand, or two…

Preston Ellington’s family owns the hotel where Summer and Jenny are working- they also own several more all across the country. He lives a lifestyle most could only dream about. He doesn’t do serious relationships, deciding after a bad experience several years earlier, that he would never get caught in the same situation again. His wealth, charm and good looks had women throwing themselves at him, and he was only too happy to indulge himself, often. But, it would never be more than a casual hook up- because he was very wary of ‘gold diggers’. Preston had been put to work for the summer manning the bar at the hotel, where his ‘signature’ drink “The Dirty Rooster” got him quite a lot of attention.

But when Summer meets the confident, arrogant barman, she’s less than impressed. She won’t be falling for his ‘charms’ anytime soon. Preston has never been knocked back before, he always got what he wanted. So, Summer’s knock-back proves to be intriguing- and Preston loves a good challenge. What happens over the summer break, you may ask? Dive on in and find out! It’s a fun, flirty, sexy and funny read.

I enjoyed the story and loved the characters. But the push-pull, tension, angst, verbal jousting and jabs all got to be a bit tiring and frustrated me to death. It dragged on a little bit too long and in the end, I was soooo over it. Also, after building the sexual tension to such an intense level, when the two finally got together I expected fireworks, and/or an explosion- but the one sex scene was pretty much brushed over- there was sizzle, but no fire, no BANG! I did expect more….

I would read more of Ms. Mooney’s work, I look forward to seeing what she does next!

Thank you, Ms. Mooney!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Dirty Rooster by Kelly Mooney finds our main character, Preston, living up to his name and many more. Preston the promiscuous. Preston the P.I.G. Preston the Player. I am sure I could come up with more but I am sure you get my drift. Summer on the other hand was sweet and fun. Together, well, getting together is more difficult than ever. Kelly wrote characters with flaws and they are funny, witty and delightful. I was sorry to see it end so soon, I wanted more of Preston and Summer. But I look forward to reading more from Kelly
