Shameless (The Orphan Train Saga Book 2) by Sherry A. Burton was just as good as the first book and kept me reading.

The second book in this fresh original series once again takes us back to a time long gone, and on an adventure that is both heart breaking, nerve wrecking and touching. I fell right into the easy writing style and the details of the era that this book takes place in. You can tell care and research went into making this book not only engaging and picturesque but, it makes this book a portal that hooked you, puling you in, making you almost apart of this story.

Overall this book is worth your time and energy. As this is part of a series, I highly suggest reading the first book, as you will miss backstory, and important details that will make this book confusing otherwise. So please take my super high recommendation and my golden stamp of approval, that you will not be able to put this series, nor this book down.

Happy Reading

I highly recommend reading the first book in this series if you haven’t already. I felt like I was on a emotional rollercoaster ride with my emotions all over the place. Some parts broke my heart while others warmed it. Tobias was born into a abusive family and found himself out on the streets at a young age. He did what he had to do to survive, soon found himself caught up in The Purple Gang. Along the way he meets Mileta. Then there is Cindy and her mother who are continuing there journey through the journals that were hidden in the attic. Find out what happens next in this must read book. I am not usually an avid reader of historical fiction, but this book kept me on the edge of my seat. My heart broke for Tobias and the life he was forced to live. This story describes the harsh reality that is faced by more children than we may realize.
Ms. Burton has again led us into an exciting and emotional journey. If you haven’t read this series, I strongly recommend it! Grab your copy today!

Shameless is the second book in Sherry A. Burton’s series called The Orphan Train Saga. The writer has promised us 18 stories and if we can go by the first 2, we will have one heck of a ride! If you do not know much about the infamous Orphan Trains and placements of orphans, you will have an opportunity to learn about a chapter in America’s history!
The writer gives us an emotional story that leaves no eye dry – I had to put the book down so many times, I was afraid to continue reading as I knew what would happen next, what was the ultimate outcome but again and again, I picked it up to continue the journey that was the life of Tobias who we met in the first book – from the moments we met him when he was four and his sister teaching him to steal to the last breath he took …I still get tears in my eyes when writing this review …
The writer has masterfully mixed history with drama and fact and fiction and even when you know that these characters are not “real”, they are real and you are forced to feel and ponder our humanity and what price might one asked to pay …

Shameless (The Orphan Train Saga Book 2)Shameless by Sherry A. Burton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shameless was a good 4 star read and book two in The Orphan Train Saga series. This is an emotional read that will pull you right in. We continue with the story of the Orphan Train with Tobias’s story.

We start with Cindy and her mother finding all the journals and the keys for the boxes. As she and her mother start to read the journals, their relationship starts to change.

We meet Tobias in the first book and we get his story in this one. He has quickly learned how to survive on the streets and ends up joining a gang. When he sees Mileta he is quickly drawn to her and has the need to protect her.

Overall this is a good read and I really enjoyed this story.
This series has introduced me to the Orphan Train and I have done some research to learn more. It was such a sad thing and how these children were treated. I highly suggest you read book one in the series before this one, it will help you connect better with the characters and story. I look forward to reading more from this author and series.

Shameless is the second book in the Orphan Train Saga books by Sherry A Burton. The story is a continuation of Cindy and her mother looking through her Grandmother’s secrets in her journal. We also get the story of Tobias (aka Mouse) and his life as an orphan and being apart of a gang. It is refreshing reading this story as it has some real historical markers with in the story. Sherry A Burton did an amazing job with keeping this story fresh and interesting.I love the roller coaster ride that this story took me on. I cannot wait to see what Sherry A Burton writes next.

I give Shameless (The Orphan Train Saga Book 2) by Sherry A. Burton, 5 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from book 1.*

The story of the Orphan Train continues, this time we experience the story of Tobias, aka Mouse. At a very young age, he is left to fend for himself in the streets of early 1900s New York. He quickly learns the best ways for him to survive, and uses his wits and clever tongue to get what he needs. He learns never to trust anyone, and that having a heart will just mean it will be broken. Then he catches a glimpse of Mileta before she even knows he exists. He swears to do everything he can to protect her while at the same time staying alive and thriving in his gang. In the present day, Cindy’s relationship with her mother seems to be changing as they read these journals. They are affected in ways they never thought possible by something happening so long ago.

If you have read book 1, which I highly recommend since you will understand more, we have met Mouse, but we didn’t know his backstory or his side of things. This book tells you all of that, whether you want to know or not. I admit, in the first book I was more interested in the past story than the one of Cindy. This book blends the two together nicely as you learn more and I was as anxious to read about the present day as well as the past. You are pulled into both stories and the author rips your feelings right out from you with her superb storytelling.

If you like stories that take you into the past as well as present day, this book and series is for you.

Shameless (The Orphan Train Saga Book 2) by Sherry A. Burton is a continuation of the first book but is the telling of another of the characters. This tale is just as sad and made worse by the fact that there is truth behind the fiction. The history behind the Orphan Train is sad as it is fascinating. Whilst the characters are not real the children and their lives is very much so. Sherry has done a great job of incorporating it into a story that needed to be told.

Tobias, is only 5 years old when he was thrust into a strange and desolate lifestyle and had to endure hardships that only one can guess at. It is a story of his life and what made him, him. It is a story of abuse and suffering, neglect and sadness, fear and famish.

Just to warn you emotions run high when reading this story but it is not one that should be missed. Even in the darkness of life there can be some good.

Shameless by Sherry Burton was a great extension of the first Orphan Train Saga. I would give this book a five out of five stars. I truly enjoy this series, there is something wonderful about Cindy and Linda reliving all of these stories. I did not know if I would be ready for Tobias’s story when the book started but I found myself hanging onto every word. I had a lot of the same thoughts that Cindy and Linda had as I was reading. The story flows really well and is easy to follow, the hard part is just dealing with the situations. I cannot wait to read the rest of the stories.

Shameless (The Orphan Train Saga Book 2) by Sherry A. Burton. I love these books! Each one leaves me wanting to read more. This is the second book in the series and these should be read in order. Its the continuing story of Cindy & her mom finding out that their grandmother/mother was an orphan on the infamous Orphan Trains. The Orphan Trains were used to take orphans and unwanted children West to people that wanted children. They have found tons of journals in the grandmother’s attic. This is Tobias aka Mouse’s story. We first met Tobias in the first book and he was not a person I wanted to read more about but this book explains why he’s so hard. He was a young orphan living on the streets of NYC learning to lie, cheat and steal to survive. He finds himself on the Train West but once he gets there it doesn’t work out and he’s sent back to NYC. He does really well this time around and becomes smarter in the ways of the streets until he sees MIleta aka Mildred. He’s obsessed with her and somehow ends up on another Train headed West and ends up in a very crime ridden gang called the Purple Gang Society. I loved reading about Tobias and actually liked his story even more than Mileta’s! I can’t wait for the next heartbreaking story. These are some of the best books I’ve read this year!

Shameless is the second book in The Orphan Train Saga by Sherry A. Burton. This book is a continuation of the story we began back in “Discovery” (Book #1). This story follows Tobias, who we ‘met’ in the previous book. He is only young but has endured more hardship than anyone deserves to- suffering abuse and neglect due to the family’s impoverished existence- and soon found himself on the streets. But this is not where his story ends. We discover his connection/s to the Orphan Train and what becomes of him, and what he has to do to survive.
Another emotive story woven around this intriguing piece of history. As with the first book, this is a mixture of history, drama, fact, and fiction. While all the characters and situations in the story are fictional, the ‘Orphan Trains’ and the situations that brought them about, are quite factual.
An emotive journey of discovery!

Thank you, Sherry A. Burton!

So the saga continues. As Cindy and her mother find and read grandmother’s journals. You will read all about Tobias and his experience as a young child riding the orphan train. As well as his will to survive and become a man. You will find his story will keep you reading, as it did me.

I enjoyed reading Sherry A. Burton’s Historical Fiction. Even though I don’t usually read Historical books. Once I read the first book, Discovery. I needed to follow this train and read about more characters in this series. I cried, and at times laughed. My heart went out to this young man as well as the other children. Well written and interesting, this book will drag you in, just as it did me. So get out the tissue, chocolate, and whatever you need to get through book 2. Once you open this book, you are in for the ride. Well done!! Enjoy!!

From time to time there is a book that makes me have to gather my thoughts and feelings before I can even venture to write a review that explains the depth of what I have spent so many hours reading and imagining. Sherry Burton has done it again with the second book in her Orphan Train Saga, Shameless. If you are like me you never heard of the Orphan trains in school and how they were used to take homeless or unwanted children from the cities out west to families that wanted children.
I strongly recommend reading this series in order as this is Tobias’s (aka Mouse) story and answers questions from the first book, Discovery. I can honestly say that after reading Mileta’s story in the first book I wasn’t really looking forward to Tobias, but I am glad now that I picked it up, and probably should mention that I liked this book more than the first!! It shows the reader the reasons behind Mouse’s actions from the scared six year old to the adult Mouse just trying to protect what was his. This is a hard book to read at points, because, come on, who could see a child suffering and not want to help? There were many times my eyes teared up and just as many times I cheered for Mouse.
If you are looking for a different storyline I recommend the Orphan Train Saga. The only problem is waiting for the next installment, which is Anastasia’s story, can’t wait for that one!

Shameless (The Orphan Train Saga Book 2) by Sherry A. Burton is a five star novel. Please read the first book in the series, Discovery, before picking up this one. This series is an awesome way to pick up on the history of our country in this time period. Many people have yet to discover the time of the Orphan Trains, and had no idea that this occurred in our more recent American history. As we travel through the life of Tobias, we really learn what life can be like for a young boy trying to find his way in the world by himself. I also loved getting to know more about Cindy and her mom and their relationship. Their relationship has grown so much because of Cindy finding her grandmother’s journals and actually taking the time to read them.

Discovery by Sherry A. Burton is the first book in The Orphan Train Saga. This is my first book by this author and the story really peaked my interest. Her writing style was flowing and moving. The characters were fully developed and believable. The story was based on the Orphan Trains which I was not familiar with I will be looking into those stories now that I have read this book. The story is about Cindy and her Grandmother who passed away. It is the summer and Cindy being a school teacher has decided to go through her storage unit filled with her Grandmother’s things. Once CIndy starts looking at her Grandmother’s life, she sees a new whole side to her Grandmother. This story has taken me on a roller coaster ride. It is a touching story to see how a Granddaughter learns about her Grandmother’s life and how it affects her.

Thank you Ms. Burton for telling this story.

Shameless by Sherry A Burton is the second book in the Orphan Train Saga. For me this series really does need to be read in order as it is the continuation of a story.
This book was just as good as book one. From the moment I started reading I found myself transported back into the tale of the trains and the lives of the children. I was just as engrossed as the first time round, even though I knew a bit more about it all this time.
This is the type of book that you find yourself becoming emotionally invested in so easily. The author paints such a vivid picture that you can imagine you are there amongst them all. I would definitely say if you haven’t done so already then you need to go and read this series.

This is a unique twist on historical story-telling and is a superb telling of actual fact. I absolutely love this book! I had ever heard of the Orphan Trains and was lost in this emotional tale. The ways that Miss Burton entwined fact with a little fictional was magical. This is a cleanly written story that I would be comfortable being read by younger readers as the language isn’t foul. This book is great for readers who have to be grabbed by a story right off. This one is a page-turner from page one! I cannot wait to read the next one!

I give Discovery (The Orphan Train Saga Book 1) by Sherry A. Burton, 5 stars.

Cindy’s grandmother passed away and unbelievably left her the house she owned and stated that all of her items be put into a storage unit after her death. Well, 7 years have gone by and she figures it is time to go through everything. Her grandmother was a cold, distant woman so it shouldn’t be hard to do. Then she finds a key that changes everything for her. Turns out her grandmother kept many secrets. This woman experienced many, many things during her younger years, beginning with being abandoned to an orphanage at a young age. But the stories just keep getting better. Cindy is finally on the path of learning whom her grandmother really was. But what does that really mean? Travel back to a time of complete hardships where you had to do things you normally never would just to survive.

I could not believe how good this book really was!! This is a new author to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect. She takes you in a wild ride of the early 1900s and she put you right in the front seat. I felt like I was right there beside Cindy as she read these journals. And the emotion!!! You really feel what her grandmother went through. The story and characters in this book are superbly written and I cannot wait to read the next book. I highly recommend it to every adult out there!

Discovery (The Orphan Train Saga Book 1) by Sherry A. Burton. This is an amazing book. I loved every page and I can’t wait for the next book. This is the story of Cindy Moore who is using her summer break from being a third grade teacher to go thru her Grandmother’s storage unit to clear up her estate. What she expects to find is a bunch ofmemories and things her Grandmother held onto but are mostly useless. What she finds is an amazing story. Little did Cindy and her mom know, her Grandmother was abandoned by her mother and sent to an orphanage to live. Her Grandmother was also one of the famed Orphans on the Orphan Trains. Why did her Grandmother not tell anyone about this huge part of her life? Why did she hold onto such a huge secret? The Orphan Trains are a historical event that I’ve heard of but didn’t know much about. Now I want to know all I can. I can’t wait for the next installment into the Orphan Train Saga! Part Fiction and a lot true history this book is full of amazing information that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!

This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. This story kept me interested throughout the whole of the book and I was intrigued to see where the story was headed. Cindy is the main character and she pulled me right into her story of learning all about her grandmother and the questions she has about the life her grandmother lived. She’s determined to figure out about the lady she never knew and finding those answer are becoming harder to reach as she finds more and more of her things.

Discovery (The Orphan Train Saga Book 1) by Sherry A. Burton is a historical drama. The story’s premise is based on the real Orphan Trains and the events that surrounded the orphan children of that time in America. Sherry did a great job of mixing fact with fiction and made it into something that you will feel all the way to your soul. It is definitely an emotional read and one that will make your heartache. You feel everything that the character went through, with her survival and hardships, love and loss, pain and longing and worst of all her suffering.

The story is told in the present by a granddaughter, who reads journals about the life her grandmother was forced to live. Set in 1921 we learn about one woman and everything that transpired in her life from the time she went to the orphanage. After reading what she went through, they have a much better understanding of the woman that they knew.

The story is well written and I look forward to the next book.

Discovery (The Orphan Train Saga Book 1) by Sherry A. Burton was was a pretty interesting read that kept me reading.

My first read by this author, I went in with an open mind, and just hit the grow running. I fall easy into this book, as it was well written, had a nice flow, and I liked the back and forth between past and present. I normally don’t read books like this, so it was a nice step out of my normal comfort zone. The were many different elements, that all came to gather for an original intriguing read. I like the MC’s voice, and the stories about her grandmother. It was a nice step back in time, and I fully enjoyed this read.

Overall this book is fit for all ages and it will take you back to a crazy time in this woman life. It’s a good way to see just how much we don’t know about or loved ones, like grandmothers. They are the closes strangers you’ll ever love. To end this book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp go approval.

Discovery, the first book in the Orphan Train Saga, was amazing and I cannot wait to read the next book! I am officially hooked. Sherry Burton’s writing was amazing, and I didnt know Orphan Trains was a real thing until the very end of the book. I googled it and am now very curious to learn more. The story was so well written, I wouldnt be surprised to learn that its based on real people’s lives. The way the diaries were discovered was exciting, and the content was heartbreaking.
Cindy enherited the storage unit that held all of her grandmother’s belongings, after her mother was tired of paying on them for years. Cindy also paid for years, before finally deciding it time to go through them. She had most of it set out to sell, to make some money and recoup the storage fees, but the one item she decides to take home, opens a whole lot of secrets and mystery. It was a treasure hunt of sorts, leading her to some journals with very emotional stories.
I don’t want to give anything away, but highly recommend this book!

Shameless by Sherry A Burton is the second book on the Orphan Train Saga. This historical fiction book, grabbed me, held me, and was a book I did not want to put down. This book really played on my emotions from the sad scenes, to the happy ones, and I will say it was a ride that I didn’t want end. This book follows Tobias, born into a poor and abusive family, he never stood a chance and found himself on the streets at a young age. He was then taken and placed with a family in Indiana, when that didn’t work out he found himself alone back in NYC on the street. He then again finds himself on a train but this time caught up in the Purple Gang. You must dive in and learn the full story of Tobias and know you will not be disappointed.
Sherry A. Burton again has given us such a great book in this series, and really cannot wait for more in this series. Learning about this outside of the reading this series is eye opening to what has happened in this county. I highly recommend and give this book 5 stars!

Discovery (The Orphan Train Saga Book 1)Discovery by Sherry A. Burton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Discovery is the first book in The Orphan Train Saga by Sherry A. Burton. This book is a mixture of history, mystery, drama, fact, and fiction. While all the characters and situations in the story are fictional, the ‘Orphan Trains’ and the situations that brought them about, are quite factual. I was completely fascinated by the story behind the Orphan Trains, which play a big part in the story- but I really appreciated the extra details in the author’s note at the end of the book. Facts that really were quite emotional, and really grabbed me by the heartstrings- I really felt for all those children and what they must have gone through to end up on the Orphan Train, and for a lot of them, their hardship didn’t stop at the end of that journey.
Anyway, I digress a little. I read this story in one sitting- completely intrigued by the whole saga. The way Ms. Burton has blended fact, with her well thought out fiction, really held my attention. The story transitions from past to present quite seamlessly, going back and forth multiple times. So, it’s almost like we really get two stories in one. One is set in the 1920’s and the other in our modern day. It touches on secrets, discovery, hardship, friendship, family, love, understanding, and survival.
Cindy Moore never suspected that cleaning out her grandmothers storage unit would lead her on a journey of discovery and revelation. A doll. A key. And some journals propel her on a fact finding mission- a little detour from what she had originally planned. The story gets more intriguing the further it unfolds. As this is the first book in the series, I really can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book.
The story is well written, if not a little ‘formal’ or ‘stiff’ in places. But, this is a fairly minor issue which didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Emotive!

Thank you, Sherry A. Burton!
