The Mummy of Monte Cristo by J Trevor Robinson – Review by Jenni Bishop

The Mummy of Monte CristoThe Mummy of Monte Cristo by J. Trevor Robinson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Mummy of Monte Cristo by J Trevor Robinson is a dark thriller and a unique modern retelling of the well-known story of Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo. J. Trevor Robinson has given us a story with a twist which includes mythical and supernatural creatures, vampires and zombies and all sorts of other things. The narrative is long and heavy and definitely not an afternoon read. It will require time and dedication. The characters are well developed and there are a lot. It is action-packed and full of twist with the horror aspects J Trevor Robinson has plotted.

The Mummy of Monte Cristo by J Trevor Robinson – Review by Angela Hayes

The Mummy of Monte CristoThe Mummy of Monte Cristo by J. Trevor Robinson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Mummy of Monte Cristo is my first read by J. Trevor Robinson. As I hadn’t read any of his work before, I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book. But as it is a dark(ish) take on the classic ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, which is a favourite of mine, I was quite intrigued to discover what lay under the cover.
This has quite a clever premise behind this adaptation- a tribute to the original, but with its own unique identity; as well as some wonderful historical details, magic, monsters, danger, hidden agendas, the supernatural, action, adventure, drama, suspense, a little mystery, and horror themes.
The characters were interesting and well developed- with their own identities, quirks and flaws. They definitely made the story more intriguing. This is quite a long story, and there were times I felt the story lagged/dragged a little- but this didn’t really detract any from my overall enjoyment of the book.
I won’t go into any detail, as I don’t want to spoil the twist on the original- that is something you will want to discover for yourself.
I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from J. Trevor Robinson is the future.

Thank you, J. Trevor Robinson!

The Mummy of Monte Cristo
By J Trevor Robinson
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book The Mummy of Monte Cristo by J Trevor Robinson. It is a story that includes betrayal, vengeance, secrets, and danger. I loved the character of Edmond Dantes. He is a man that should have had a wonderful life. Things look bright for him until he loses everything. What does the future hold for Edmond? Read this book to find out. This is an amazing story that had me turning pages to find out what happens next. It had my emotions going up and down all the way through. Edmond is a character that you can empathize with for what happens to him as well as understand the reasons for the path that he embarks on. There are many characters in this story. Some of them have selfish goals and only look out for themselves. They crave power and influence while trampling over those who they consider beneath them. Others are driven to make sure things are set right. The book is brilliantly written, and the author makes the story and the characters come alive. Don’t miss out on an exciting and entertaining story that you will not want to put down until you had finished the final page. I highly recommend reading it.

I enjoyed this book. It is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from them in the future. This is a well thought out story that takes you on an adventure through a world of magic and paranormal. The characters are unique and well developed. They are connectable and made the story not only engaging but also easy to read. This is a story about Edmond. He seems to have it all, a new pending marriage, a promotion and in just a second he loses everything. What will happen when he is accused of treason you will have to read about. Now he is faced with making things right but will he have to give up his humanity? This is a longer story but Edmond keeps you wanting to see what will happen next. He made such a great character, I really enjoyed him. This was a great story that I highly recommend.

In this book 4 of the series Logan finds herself with a new neighbor that she at once feels something is just not right with. As she gets to know her and her daughter she discovers that they are running from an abusive situation. I like Logan’s character in this series, she is a likable person with good natured friends and I love the small town feel that surrounds her, we all wish we could live in such a place. As with each book in this series I look forward to the next book.

This was an exciting and thrilling read – so much so that I devoured it in one sitting and it’s not usually a genre that I read! The author’s writing was so engaging, detailed and descriptive and it’s definitely made me want to read more books by him again in the future. I loved that the whole way through I was constantly guessing trying to figure out what was going to happen and just when I thought I had worked it out the author threw in a plot twist!! I really liked the main character; he was intriguing to read about!
This is the third book in this series however I read it as a standalone and had no problems but I would definitely like to read the first two now and any subsequent releases!

I find myself delving deeper into the mysteries and I can’t help but get entrapped in my imagination as they take us to the most unpredictable places with each case. This book is no different with where we go with Red to solve this case. Every turn is more suspenseful then the next as we follow quickly along with intrigue. I love how well developed it is that it seemed like a movie as I dreamed about the book at night after each chapter as it came to life as I slept. Every character was well likeable (at least to me) for different reasons.

With such a sensitive topic of domestic abuse, this was written well and kept me reading. Logan gets a new neighbor, Lori and her daughter. When what Lori was hiding from finds her and she ends up in the hospital, the only one who knows the answers is her 3 year old, Logan ends up in the eyes of our bad guy.

I liked this story and the way it was written especially dealing with a hot topic, but the author did well with it and brought it awareness.

Vanishing Day: Logan Book 4 (The Logan McKenna Series)Vanishing Day: Logan Book 4 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Vanishing Day is the fourth book in Valerie Davisson’s Logan McKenna series. You probably could read it as a standalone as there are enough references so you would be able to follow the underlying storyline but I would suggest you start from the beginning!
This time, it gets very dicey! Logan gets on the way of an abusive husband of her young next door neighbour Lori who has escaped him with her little daughter and as she knows what he is capable of then she has information that she uses for leverage… In this story the writer is excellently addressing the sensitive issue of domestic/spousal abuse and if you are even slightly familiar with it then you know that it is not as ‘easy’ as Lori might hope thinking that this information might keep her and her daughter safe … There are twists and turns and at times you are gripping the edge of your seat and then … finally … you get to the end and release a sigh!
In addition to the main story line, Valerie gives us further insight into Logan’s relationship with her boyfriend Ben and their circle of friends. As always, we get the beautiful detailed descriptions of Oregon coast so you can simply close your eyes and picture it (for me, I felt like I was back there …). I wonder what ends up next on Logan’s plate.

Valerie Davisson has gone to great lengths to write this book. Her information is spot on, which makes you want more. I love her characters, strong independent women, and stronger men. East Beach (Red Farlow Mysteries: #3)East Beach by W.F. Ranew

I have really enjoyed the Red Farlow Mysteries by WF Ranew, so when I saw there was a new one available I instantly one-clicked. I was not disappointed with East Beach either, in fact this may just be my favorite so far. Ranew really has a knack for writing suspense and mystery. I was constantly second guessing myself as I read, wondering if things really were what they seemed on the surface, but this sucker throws in some twists and turns that you won’t see coming. I was on the edge of my seat and found myself reading this in one fell swoop well past my bedtime. I really loved the backdrop as well I felt as if I was visiting a mysterious and creepy misty beach town the entire time.

In Easy Beach we find Red Farlow, the PI we have come to love, receiving an odd message from his friend. When he decides to look into it more and go to his friend he discovers him laying in a pool of blood after being shot. He will now stop at nothing to discover who killed his friend and why. The adventure is one you won’t want to miss and I can’t wait to see what else we will find Red Farlow doing next!

East Beach: Red Farlow Mysteries: #3 by W.F. Ranew is a mystery thriller story. It will have you thinking you had it figured out only to be slipped a twist and a turn here and there and you had no idea. WF is very good a character building and they are well written. Red finds his friend on deaths door and is now on the hunt to find out who did this. The trail leads to drugs and cartel and your share of seedy bad guys. It also leads to more questions than answers. There are a lot of moving people and pictures in this story but WF does a good job of pulling it all together.

Logan has grown a lot since the first book, and she has a great group of friends who make occasional appearances to help her out.
