Deadly Words (Born Bad Book 1) by Meghan O’Flynn was a very interesting read for me. I have read a couple of Ms. O’Flynn’s books now and she always manages to keep me on the edge of my seat. While Ms. O’Flynn as a plot that will keep everybody interested her characters are just simply the best. Poppy and Carson are the most unsuspecting main characters and they are both brilliant. Or only will Ms. O’Flynn keep you guessing with her plot but also Poppy and Carson’s future.

Deadly words is an addictive book. It is the book 1 in the series and I can guarantee that I will be reading the next books for sure. I couldn’t put it down! It captures you and makes you want more. The story of poppy, a serial killer’s daughter. It’s addictive. Simply Amazing!!!! Meghan O’Flynn is a great writer and she did a wonderful job writing this story. I am definitely a fan now.

What a twisted ride! This is the first book I’ve read by Meghan O’Flynn but it certainly won’t be my last! In Deadly Words, you get a look inside Poppy’s mind and man is it a dark place to be! As the daughter or a serial killer, Poppy often finds herself in predicaments where she questions if her actions are her own or if she was just born that way. We get a look into the upbringing of Poppy and events that led to who she is today. There were quite a few “WTF?!” and “No way!!” moments in the book for me. O’Flynn has created a character and story so enthralling that you don’t want to stop reading and are disappointed when the book ends. Luckily there are more books in this series and I can’t wait to follow Poppy’s journey!

This is the first book in the Born Bad series and wow what a start. I loved it. This book is very dark and I love how the author gets into the mind of our lead character Poppy. She is able to give us an insight into the mind of someone who grew up with her father who was a psychopath. How has his action affected her? And she constantly worries about the question that plagues many criminal psychologists. Are psychopaths born evil? And if they are does Poppy have the same tendencies as her father? Is she a bad person?
With her father in jail for the murder of Poppy’s boyfriend and Poppy now an adult she is trying to move on with her life and recover from her past. However all this could be destroyed when a stranger who is writing a book about her dad turns up and says someone is watching him and he thinks it’s her dad. Will Poppy believe him or will she think he is as paranoid as she is? We are the dragged through a story full of twists and turns as we try to find out who is lurking in the shadows and we learn more secrets that Poppy has kept hidden all her life. The reader will be throughly gripped and this book will get your mind thinking over the same question. Are people born evil?

Stand Your Ground by A. J. Ullman. This is the story of Cady Fox who is a up coming attorney in a big law firm. She is out to dinner with the senior attorneys and she is so excited because she believes they are going to offer her partnership in the morning. On her way home she is attacked by a man and she shoots him. So needless to say the next morning she is not offered partnership but she is being questioned by the police. Her whole life Cady has had to fight to get anywhere and this battle is the hardest one she’s ever been on. The fight of her life. During the investigation she learns who her friends really are and she learns to Stand her Ground and fight for herself like she never has before. Stand Your Ground is full of loss, betrayal, politics and lies. Once you start reading you won’t want to stop.

Its the story of Poppy Pratt whose Father is a serial killer. He’s now in jail for murdering her boyfriend. Once her father goes to jail she moves on with her life. She goes to college and becomes a Chiropractor with a house and all the perks of being a normal person. One day a stranger ends up on her doorstep to tell her that her father is stalking him from prison. His name is Carson Price and he is an investigative journalist and he seems to bring trouble wherever he goes. Does Poppy believe him and get pulled into his mess? Poppy’s past may come back to haunt her if she does. Meghan O’Flynn is one of my favorite authors and this book is amazing!

Stand Your Ground by A.J Ullman is a thought provoking crime thriller that had me engrossed right from the start. As expected from Mr. Ullman, this story encompasses and examines many facets- from law, to politics, morality, racism, ‘trial by media’, societal expectations- and so much more. A night that should have been cause for hope and even celebration turn into a nightmare for Cady Fox when she is faced with the unthinkable. But, standing her ground against sinister intent results in her life completely unravelling. Life as she knows it is about to change- and it can never be the same again. Accusations are laid at her feet, and tensions high with public outcry, leaves Cady no choice but to navigate the justice system- all while being targeted by the media and members of the outraged public. What happened that led to this situation, and how does it all play out? Well, this book really is worth the read to find out….
“Can you give me the details? Here’s the first question. Did you know him? And was that your bicycle on the court?” Actually, that was two questions, but I didn’t point that out. As a lawyer, I hate compound questions. I was riding my bicycle home, of course. But things are never as simple as they appear and telling Janney so would not help my cause. She didn’t get to be on homicide by being a dumb-ass. Once suspects start talking, homicide detectives make a bunch of notes and remember what was said. Then they chase down the facts and come back to you, bringing you the truth of your lie the way a dog waggles his tail when she brings back a bone you buried for her in the backyard.
Again, Mr. Ullman’s attention to detail and meticulousness gave this story so much authenticity, believability, intrigue, depth, and mystery. I always get so immersed in his stories, and this one was no exception- I had no intention of putting it down till I had finished the very last page. And I am happy to say that he definitely didn’t let me down- crafting a compelling read! So, if you love crime and investigation, very intriguing storylines, complex characters, depth, and realism- then this is definitely the book for you!

Okay, to be fair, this is definitely too graphic for me. With that being said, what I did read was intricate and fascinating. The writing feels like an old storyteller rambling with eerie music in the background. It is definitely spooky and disturbing. Explicit depictions of child abuse so beware!! But the supernatural elements are completely original. Absolutely insane amount of detail and dread in the lore of this story. Definitely must be read during the day with the lights on!!

I thoroughly enjoyed Deadly Words by Meghan O’Flynn. From page one I was drawn into the main characters world. Meghan painted an image in the reader’s mind with in depth descriptions and use of unfiltered language. My spine tingled from the beginning of the book to the end. The story does contain sensitive topics that may not be suitable for everyone.

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters. I also enjoyed what they brought to the story as well. This is a well written story where the growth of the plot was great throughout the story. This is a fast paced, engaging story that is full of action and twists and turns. I enjoyed how the characters are connectable and gave life to the story. This is a story about Cady and how life throws her some unexpected situations that change her. She is now faced with standing her ground and murder, will these two cross? The question remains will she run or stand her ground for justice. This is a great story and I really enjoyed what Cady brought to the story. She is a strong character that I felt for with the different things happening to her. She truly made the story for me. I highly recommend this book.

It seems like most books out there are described as “dark and twisted” or “unputdownable thrillers”. Well here is one that actually delivers! I’m a midwestern nurse practitioner and lawyer who writes in my spare time. Who knew how long I would have to get them out? I have one Indie published novel to my credit, Drifting, Falling — Diary Of A Call Girl Suicide. My occupations have afforded me the opportunity to work with people with mental health disorders. Those experiences shape the themes that I explore in novel writing. We are all damaged, as one of my characters says, with a dead-on smack of truth I have two rescue dogs, one of whose name is Ruger, like the firearms manufacturer. Not a name I would have given him, but no sense changing his name at age three. However, he inspired me to name Cady’s dog Beretta, which fits in very well with the story line of Stand Your Ground, my next novel that just debuted in August.

“Deadly Words” truly exceeded all of my expectations. I was not familiar with this author and don’t usually read thrillers, but there’s no going back now! Poppy is such a deep character and I loved being in her twisted little mind. I mean, who wouldn’t be a little damaged after being raised by a psychopathic murderer? This author has a way with words that spoon feeds you tiny bits of information that leaves you feening for more! So hard to put down!

It is a fantastic thriller full of intensity, gripping developments, secrets, twisted details, mystery, drama, layers, a skin crawling creepy vibe, and much more. The story definitely had me in its grip the whole way through, I couldn’t put it down until I had read every raw, gritty, and intriguing detail… There were times I was on the edge of my seat, just about ready to jump out of my skin, but I had to find out what lay over the next page, I just had to know what happened, loving every unpredictable moment of it…. Deadly Words: A Born Bad Novel (#1) by Meghan O’Flynn is a dark thriller and a fantastic start to this series. Meghan has woven threads with many layers in this raw, gritty, and twisted tale that entices the senses. The creep factor is high. Your senses are on high alert. You find yourself hugging that pillow tighter. You find yourself sitting on the edge ready to bolt. Your start hearing things and your heart pounds as you find yourself trying to see what is in the shadows. The story alternates from past to present giving us an insight to where things may have begun. One thing I love about Meghan’s writing is that you never know what you will get, and you come to love the unexpected. She never disappoints.

We’re still with Tyler in this third installment of a series I’ve grown to love. As an advocate for mental illness in real life (outside of being a reader), I was heartbroken at how they stigmatized Tyler. My heart also goes out to Hen as he’s dealing with a lot on his own as well: This book is what I call refreshingly honest. From that perspective, I dove right in and was gripped with all of this story and never looked back. I love this book so much I keep re-reading. Pick it up and enjoy!

Wow! This story grabbed me from the beginning. It also really hit home for me. The realness and raw emotion in this book is amazing. I can’t tell tell you how many times I clasped my hand over my mouth and cried while reading this book. The love and thoughts that go through Tara’s mind are very relatable and so real. Reading about Branson gives such an understanding about mental illness that most people never see. I so recommend this book! I cannot wait to read the next one and will devour all books by this author!

What a wild ride this read was. It was a Rollercoaster of dark and twisty and it had me hooked so quickly! What an excellent story with the ability to make you feel everything as if you’re going through it yourself! This was my first time reading a book from this author and they spun an amazing tale! This is a book I have a hard time not spoiling for all because there were so many good parts!!! Definately reccomend!

A divided mind is a book about a young man’s spiral into mental illness. His psychotic break and how he and his family process his schizophrenia. This was a raw, well written story. It was family oriented so you were able to see all sides and how they handled it. This book makes you feel his frustration and his pleading to just make it stop. I felt so much for Branson and all he was going through. I thought the books subject matter was intriguing as someone who has first hand experience with mental illness but I think it would appeal to others as well. I look forward to reading book # 2!

This book wasn’t really what I was expecting. I typically read mostly psychological thrillers, and thought this would fall into that genre. I would classify it more as a contemporary novel about mental illness. I can still appreciate it for what it was, and overall enjoyed the novel. I love when books are told from different perspectives, however I found the mother hard to relate to and therefore didn’t enjoy her chapters as much. Overall I would recommend this book if you have an interest in psychological disorders.

I wasn’t sure what I would think about this book when I first picked it up. Turns out, I had a lot to learn. Reading Branson’s inner thoughts while he was dealing with his inner demons was a true eye-opening experience. I really enjoyed getting two experiences through this book. Branson and Tara’s separate but same journey throughout this book had me reading this in one setting. One cannot assume or fathom what the other is feeling and why. Turns our hind sight can really change the outcome of a story. I hope to read the next installment of this story really soon.

Powerful thriller. Creepy yet Poppy is strong and insightful. She will get through whatever gets thrown at her. The characters are rich and well-thought out. The plot is action-packed and sucks you in from the beginning. I love how it goes from past to present and back. You get a look at how it impacted her life. Really good crime suspense novel. You must read this. Definitely a worthy read.

Wow! Boy Released is the gripping sequel to Boy on Hold, by JD Spero. We pick back up with the Trout family years after their ordeal. We learn more about each of them and how they, especially Tyler, are coping with life now and Tyler’s diagnosis. Then, tragedy strikes again, but this time it’s Marcella, Tyler and Hen’s mom who is attacked. Again, Tyler is suspect number one! What really happened? Will there be justice?
The depth of the character and world development makes this one truly special. The light shed on mental illness and how it affects individuals, as well as those around them make this book different than others in the genre. Another great, page-turning read!

Boy On Hold by JD Spero is a suspenseful, engaging story that reels you in from the beginning.
Spero writes the story from multiple points of view and carefully crafts this mystery. The characters are well-developed throughout the book and you can’t help but endear yourself to most of them. The reader immediately finds themself engulfed in a mystery witnessed by small little Hen (who sees monsters come the crime against a beloved neighbor and friend) and it all unravels from there. Could it be his brother, his brother’s best friend, or someone else entirely? Spero’s storytelling is excellent. The development of the mystery with special attention to the characters and shedding light on mental illness make this must-read. It will have you turning the page to the very end.

This story is told from two POV’s- the mother, Tara, and the son, Branson. You can feel the struggle of the mother to find out and handle when Branson says he’s been hearing voices.
I really struggled to get with Tara. I felt she was super dramatic. I struggle saying that honestly because I haven’t been in those shoes. Just felt her character was little on drama-overdrive.
My heart went out to Branson.
Overall I cant say that I felt this was a “thriller” as it was a bit slow-moving or maybe slower than I anticipated but overall I liked the storyline and the realness it brought to mental illness and its effect on people and their families.

This is a book that will stick with me for a long time. As a person living with mental illness the view into Branson’s world and how it affects the people around him was super intriguing. There was the anguish and denial of his mother, the ignorance of his father and the realization of Branson himself that there was something wrong. Mental illness can be horribly debilitating, and it is referring to have a novel step into the depths to try to show what it can be like to have an issue like this. This is one to read.

This amazing book was so well written. I started off not sure how I would feel about it because mental illness touches very close to home for me. But the way the character Tara talks about her emotions while dealing with the news from Branson is so raw and emotional. And then Branson’s side of his emotions is heartbreaking and true to how so many young adults feel. I laughed and cried as I sped through the chapters. I highly recommend this book and commend M. Billiter for writing such a beautiful story.

Mental illness is always a hard one to describe and give it justice. The author did an amazing job doing so in The Divided Mind. I definitely felt the struggle that the family had to deal with along with the “patient”. The way that the author takes clinical terms and breaks them down through the character’s voices is so helpful in understanding this mental illness. Although I didn’t have much knowledge about the topic, I definitely felt like I ended the book having a lot more empathy and understanding for those who deal (family and patients) with mental illness of any kind. This is a very believable storyline, and I loved it.
