Relatable, emotional and raw This story holds nothing back. It is raw and at times confronting. Devorah has faced unimaginable pain and suffering over the years and has finally escaped. Now she needs to rebuild her life and herself. This is well written and had me on an emotional roller coaster the whole time. Highly recommend.

Woman Unbroken is a woman’s story of perseverance and finding herself again after being oppressed down to nothing. Trigger warning for anyone who has been in any sort of abusive relationship. The story itself was written well but I struggled at times to get through it. It did get better as it went on. The author presents a very heavy topic. However it’s the way the main character grows and moves forward that’s empowering. Devorah left her husband. Scared that he was going to hurt her with his paranoia and violent temper. He already reduced her life down to just him, what else did he want? She’s trying to move on but has no motivation most days. Until she meets Andrew, and those lack of motivation days start to lessen over time. He brings out a side of her she didn’t expect. Accepting and agreeing to things that surprise her. All this while still dealing with her soon to be ex-husband. Does her ex-husband get to her? Do Devorah and Andrew build a relationship? That and so many questions come to mind while navigating this story. Again it’s central is dealing with a heavy topic and situation. A story about women’s empowerment. If you enjoy a book around a strong female lead this is for you!

I have loved every book from this author and this one was just as good as the others. I will say you don’t have to read A Mother’s Threat first but it ties into this one so much I would recommend reading it first.
Karina makes a promise to her grandmother as her last wish that she will run the Café. What Karina doesn’t know is that her grandmother has held a secret all these years, several in fact, and will send Karina on a puzzle solving mystery. But will Karina find the answers once the main item comes up missing?
This book is a quick and easy read that will suck you right in and keep you guessing until the end. You will find yourself trying to figure out who the thief is and if Karina will figure out the secret. I love the happy ending this book gives because both Karina and Violet deserve a happy ending.

Let’s start off with the cover! It’s beautiful and what originally caught my attention. So when I started reading and fell in love with the story too? WIN! The angst and tension kept me intrigued and I was constantly flipping the pages. I really enjoyed this journey and my gosh, my heart. What an empowering read.

This is such an emotional read. I felt as if I truly got to know Devorah through her own eyes. I connected to her more through the trauma and I wanted to hold her during the abusive relationship. That is when you know a book is written well. When you want to jump in and protect or defend your choice character. Bravo! I recommend this book.

Secrets at the Cafe” by Susan Specht Oram is an interesting mystery with an enthralling plot centered around a loved one’s missing journal. Karina, the main character, goes on an adventure to uncover the truth behind her grandmother’s missing journal. The reader can feel the heartache of grief as Karina struggles to come to terms with juggling the cafe her grandma owned and finding the journal. I have read several of this author’s novels and enjoy her writing!

The book has perfect suspense and great plot twists.
Secrets at the Café by Susan Specht Oram was a wonderful addition to the other stories that take place in Millersville. I loved that she included characters from Shore Lodge and The Thieves. Bets and Zerk make an appearance in the first few pages, they are married and have left their life of crime behind. I absolutely loved the tie ins from the other books she has written. I look forward to reading more tales from Millersville!

Secrets are everywhere, especially in small towns. This is not the first book I have read by the talented Susan Specht Oram and once again I couldn’t put this book down from start to finish. All Karina wanted to do was fulfill her grandmother’s (Gigi) dying wish, repayment in her eyes for her Gigi taking care of her after her parents passed away. Karina is a twenty-four-year-old woman that was making her place in the world in Seattle as an artist, selling her pottery and paintings happy and living her dream. Her Aunt Jean calls her to let her know that Gigi’s health is taking a downward turn, and she needs to come back home and be with her. Without hesitation Karina packs her belongings and returns to her small town of Millersville. The final moments of Gigi’s life she tells Karina to take care of her café and to read her journal. She tells her “There is more hidden in this house than you realize. After I’m gone, look for clues.” Surprised to learn she had a journal a month passes, and Karina is still unable to make herself go through Gigi’s things, her papers, her drawers, she’s not ready to fully accept that she is gone. One busy day in the café a customer, Boots Brinker, finds the journal, a red leather book, the first page she sees states that the stock market has crashed, and she pulled all her money out of her bank account and hid it somewhere safe. Instantly she regrets not going through everything, taking inventory of what was in the house because just as quickly as the journal was found it instantly taken. Lost to her hunger and attachment to the journal, Karina does some legally questioning things, sneaking around houses when invited in and pretending to trust some who offer to help her find it. To add to the growing list of “customers” she meets her young cousin’s boyfriend finally, and it’s none other than Shane, her high school boyfriend that stole her heart and moved away and never called her again. While the world is completely realistic, having lived in very small towns for over ten years now I completely understand the fact that secrets are everywhere. Woman Unbroken focuses on discovering oneself while carrying baggage of a broken past. This is my first time reading a novel written by Fleder and it sure did not disappoint. Fleder touched on some pretty heavy topics without hesitation and for that I praise her writing. Devorah was extremely relatable. Despite the emotional roller coaster I was sent on, I found myself rooting for her the entire book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an emotional novel featuring a devoted, determined protagonist.

Loving the cover art ! However , don’t let it me do lead you there’s something very different in between those pages and having read the first book in the series “ Love, only better” I was more than eager to get started on this read 🥰📚
Usually it’s woman who suffer at the hands of others wether it be at the hand of their loved one or employer and while it does happen to men it’s not something often women of so this was a big attraction for me ….not because I’m a sick puppy but because I appreciate that a taboo subject is being broached …..
We met Rebecca and Kyle in the first boom and Kyle was Rebecca’s saving grace and this time tomes are reversed 😉look I know he knew she’d support him but I also felt his anxiety and fear to share his experience….
So Kyles past meets up with his present unbeknown to them and when the dots are connected boy do we get fireworks and I typical fashion the aggressor looks for a scapegoat and tries to target Rebecca and name get out to be the bad guy but she who I shall not mention picked the wrong girl to pick a fight with !
I loved how supportive these 2 were of each other , i loved how a taboo subject was approached without emasculating Kyle but making him and his emotions and experience a very real thing and this is really a read I’d love to share with men and women alike 🥰📚

This was the first book I’ve read by the author, and upon further investigation, seems like her first book. I have mixed feelings on Woman Unbroken. It is a story about not giving up on yourself, and restarting your life. Devorah has been dealt a bad hand in life, with her parents getting divorced, her father remarrying a much younger woman, and then going to jail. And her mother fleeing the embarrassment in Europe. Then Devorah finds herself in an unhealthy, abusive relationship. She finally works up the courage to leave, but doesn’t have much to run away to, in order to restart. We see her try to start over and pick of the pieces. I like that the author gave her the courage to leave, and the bravery to open herself up again, when she meets Andrew. I was glad to see how she handled that, in a mature manner. However, at the end of the book, I kind of felt… lacking? Like there wasn’t much resolution, or good for her, or feeling of contentment. The story just kind of fizzled out. Despite my feelings, it was still an enjoyable book, and I would read more by this author. She has definite potential.

Karina has taken over her grandmother’s cafe and is trying her best to make her proud. On her deathbed Gigi had 2 things she asked Karina to do, run the cafe and read her diary. Both of which turn out to be a struggle. The cafe is a lot of work, especially for only one person who was planning to be an artist, and the diary has gone missing. Everyone looks like a suspect, as Gigi was well loved and many people have shown interest in her diary. Karina is busy asking anyone who was at the cafe the day it went missing, and also finding out more about her grandmother than she previously did, even without getting to read the diary. A great book that keeps you interested the whole way through.

This was a good 4 star read. My emotions were all over the place with this story. To get away from an abusive ex, Devorah goes home to find herself. Devorah was a very strong woman, I really enjoyed her story. The whole time I was on edge wondering if he would find her, was she really safe? Would she finally be truly happy? There was so much going on, the author does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I feel like there were several meanings to this story that made me think about where I am in my life. Susan Specht Oram is one author that I am always excited to read. This is because it seems with each book she just gets better, just when I think that there is no way the next book could get any better it does. Secrets at the Cafe is a book that sucks you in from the first sentence and leaves you wanting even more when you reach the last page. Karina is the main character and she is incredibly well written. She has just lost her grandmother and the death is taking a toll on her. She begins to think she is losing her mind, she is confusing people and as if that wasn’t bad enough things of her grandmothers begin to disappear. Karina becomes determined to find them, no matter what else may happen. This book is absolutely filled with twists and turns. I definitely cannot wait to see what the next book Susan Specht Oram writes and how she makes it even better than this one. Definitely pick this one up!

Secrets at the Cafe: A Novel of Suspense About Family and Friendships by Susan Spect Oram is a cozy mystery about a young woman who takes over her grandmother’s cafe after a deathbed promise. Gigi raised Karina after her parents’ death. When Gigi dies she makes Karina promise to run her cafe and read her journal. When Gigi’s journal is stolen, Karina has to pull out all the stops to find it. This book showed a lot of promise. There were quite a few twists and turns. I wish Karina had made better decisions and had better boundaries. I feel like there was a lot of unnecessary blame that she placed on herself. I liked the way some of the town tried to help Karina. The relationship between Karina and Bernard was sweet. If you like cozy mysteries you may like this one.

Secrets at the Cafe was a different take on a mystery read. The characters were cute and the story was good. I think the author did a nice job of keeping readers attention throughout and not making it too predictable so that I wanted to keep reading!

This is a little mystery that revolves around a little red journal. It is a nice “who dunnit” story. I had suspicions but the author does a good job of throwing the reader off track. There is a slew of characters that grace the pages. All of them involved or suspect in this case. The story started off good but then seemed to drag a bit for me. The characters had a hard time holding my interest as the book moved along. I could easily flip several pages and still be in the same conversation between characters so I really didn’t miss anything. I have read books by this author before. One I loved and another was okay. So I figured I would give her another try. This one just did not work for me.

I really enjoyed this story by Susan Specht Oram. She’ll captivate you in just the first few chapters. This mysterious story will have you holding on till the last moments. Karina is trying to help her grandma in her last moments back home only to be pulled into the journal. Fantastic read.

A rainy Saturday read for me – it was fun. I enjoyed the characters in this story -Karina taking care of her Gigi’s cafe, searching for her lost journal, keeping her cousin in check… it is a mystery waiting to be solved. I loved the small town feel of this novel and the many people that we meet along the way.

This isn’t my first read by Susan Specht Oram and likely not the last. I really enjoyed Secrets at the Cafe from the very beginning. The opening chapter already evokes emotion and engagement from the very start and the writing kept my attention. I read so many stories written in multiple perspectives I really enjoyed the first person narrative. This author has a talent for writing really great female heroines and this book was no exception. I would definitely recommend Secrets at the Cafe.

When Karina’s grandmother passes away she asks Karina to return home and run her cafe. She makes her promise that while she’s doing that she’ll find and read her journal. Turns out running the cafe is more intense than she anticipated and she couldn’t get her hands on the journal immediately. So when a little red journal is found in the dining room Karina is determined to start reading, but when she turns her back to take care of a customer the journal vanishes.
Now Karina has to find the journal and hunt down the flies inside of it to uncover the past (and maybe a few secrets) while rumors are spreading like wildfire around town. In a suspense about families and secrets things are likely to never be the same.
This is unlike anything I’ve read in a while! With twists and turns and all the determination of a granddaughter missing her grandmother, this is a story I won’t forget. It was fast-paced and kept my attention from start to end. If there’s more like this, I can’t wait to find it.

This was an engaging Suspense mystery that keeps you gripped and guessing throughout the story. The twists and turns means you can’t figure out what is going to happen which kept me reading more as I wanted to find out the answers. Karina Walker has had her life turned upside down when her grandmother passes away leaving her to run the cafe her grandmother has made a success but that’s not all. Her grandmother tells her she needs to read her journal. Karina struggles to carry on her grandmother’s work but when the journal is found by customers and then suddenly goes missing Karina goes on the hunt to find who has taken it and why. The list of suspects keeps growing and as she searches hidden secrets and rumours start to come to life. Can she work through her families past to succeed in her future? What secrets does the journal hold that someone obviously wants? And will the secrets when revealed turn Karina life upside down anymore than it already is? This story is an engaging mystery and a page turning read. I felt in parts sorry for Karina as she gives up everything she knows to fulfill her grandmothers final wish and now she has to struggle with the secrets that come to light as well as coming to terms with all that she has lost.

I love this author! I also love that all the books in this series are intertwined in a way it works magically. Also all the books work extremely well as standalone novels, which is a nice change of pace vs other books that don’t. Secrets at the Cafe are no different. It’s another drama that sucks you in and keeps you wanting more. Tell that to the main character Karina, she hightailed it home when her grandma was fighting for her life. Now with her gran gone she’s running herself ragged. Causing her to confuse people, needing to help all others around her gets her in trouble. So when gran’s notes and knick nak’s started to disappear, Katrina was determined to find them at all costs. But as things start to unravel, is it now time for her to stop or push forward for the answers she seeks? I know I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again. This is probably my favorite book to date. Each book seems to get better and better! An author worth digging into! A story definitely worth the read! Enjoy!

A promise to keep the cafe running, a missing journal, a secret sibling that she never knew existed. Lies that she grew up believe as truth. Karina, has just had her world turned upside down with the death of her Grandmother, the one who raised her after her parents died in a car accident when she was young. Only that’s not cut and dry as Karina has believed her whole life. With the death of her grandmother, she promises to keep the cafe running her grandmothers dying wish. Karina leaves behind her job, her dreams and her life to move back to where she grew up and take over the cafe. Her grandmother on her death bed told Karina to read her journal and everything will make sense, only the journal has gone missing. In this mystery Karina must find out who took the journal to unlock all the secrets of Karina’s past. A can’t put down mystery that’s so relatable you can picture yourself sitting in the cafe drinking coffee and eating scones with the characters.

This book is a well written and surprisingly emotional story and I found myself connecting with Devorah much more than I expected to. There is so much going on through this story, but it is all emotional and angst ridden that it has a completely different feel than what I thought it would. This is the first book that I have read by this author and what an introduction it was. The way the book is written really drew me in to the story. I wanted to see how Devorah would develop and what was in store for her. There was also a bit of an edge to the book that added an extra element which made is even better. This is a great book that is very much worth the read.

This is the first piece of work I have read by this author, and I hope it will not be the last! I found the character Devorah Fields to be interesting and relatable, and her story to be captivating and inspiring. I am always drawn to books with a strong female protagonist, and while Devorah might initially seem “unreachable” being an actress and model, I actually found it very easy to slip right into her world and feel the things she goes through. As a working mom and wife, I found her quest to rediscover herself to be endearing and on point. Reading Devorah’s story will inspire anyone to take a good look at their own life and ask “Is this really who I am?” I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good emotional story to get lost in.
