Sometimes you just never know the depths of drama and lies that a family can hold. Even the families that look like they have it all together could be hiding the darkest of secrets. That’s where Rose found herself. Her mother falls ill and she’s called to come help care for her. While in her childhood home, Rose finds some items that bring about a lot of questions and suspicions in her mind about who her family really is.
There are parts of this story that were hard to read. This will challenge the reader emotionally, so be prepared. However, give this book a chance because it’s well worth your investment!

Jacqueline Boulden is a first time author for me so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Family Ties Family Lies is a suspenseful, family drama with lots of twists to keep you on your toes. Starting with Rose’s possible career ending injury, leading into her mother’s cancer diagnosis, and moving into the exposure of a life altering family secret, there is so much information to absorb. Boulden does a great job world building, from the hustle of city life to the slow, small town living. The characters are so perfectly imperfect that I couldn’t help but become invested in them. Overall, the story was great but I felt like the pace was a little slower than I would have liked. I felt myself drifting away from the story a time or two. I will definitely be looking into other titles by Jacqueline Boulden.

“Family Ties Family Lies” is a captivating blend of mystery and familial bonds that grips the heart from the outset. Rose’s return to Lake Amelia unfolds into a tapestry of secrets, love, and forgiveness, masterfully woven by the author. The small-town setting comes alive with vivid descriptions, enveloping readers in its charm. While the mystery propels the narrative forward, it’s the poignant exploration of family dynamics that truly resonates. Characters, richly drawn and relatable, linger in the mind long after the last page. A poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the power of forgiveness, this novel is a must-read that leaves an indelible mark.

Family Ties Family Lies by Jacqueline Boulden. This is my first book by this author and it will for sure not be the last. I’m hooked! This is a great family drama filled with lies, secrets, sickness and facing your mortality. Its the story of Rose who is living her life in Philadelphia as a photojournalist doing just fine until she gets the call from home to come and care for her ailing mother. When she arrives home to Lake Amelia she is sucked into the small town drama. Realizing her mom is much sicker than she originally thought she is going to be here for a while. She decides to do some snooping and goes to the attic where she finds a whole secret box about a life her dad had that she never knew about. Being the journalist she is will she be able to let old secrets stay hidden or will she expose them and risk destroying lives of people she loves. The characters in this book and all the small nuances of the small town make this book so good and I can’t wait to read another book by this author.

This book is an intriguing mystery story that has family right at its heart. It is written in a way that draws you in slowly as the book progresses and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I wanted to know more about the family and their history. Although the mystery was a great, my favourite part of this book was the family element. It was so prevalent throughout the story and I think for me that made it more engaging and easy to connect with. I enjoyed the way the story was written and the pacing of the book. This really is a great read and I am looking forward to more books from this author.

This was a good read. I particularly connected with how life unfolds as you are facing down turning 40. This was an emotional book packed with lots of things that trigger tears. The amount of depth the author put into creating a woven plot without being cumbersome was impressive. I enjoyed the characters and felt their relationships to be authentic.

Family Ties Family Lies is a heartfelt Women’s fiction story full of suspense and mystery. Jacqueline has written a complex tale of family drama but there is another storyline mixed up within. With family secrets, lies, shock, anger, pain, conflict, drama, fears, hopelessness, sadness, wants, needs, love, hope and so much more this mystery suspense is full of surprises that will keep the pages turning whilst trying to uncover it all. Family Ties Family Lies is so well written and is one of those books that will stay with long after your finished reading it. Part mystery and part family dynamics, a lot of emotions in this book. Love, loss and the absolute importance of forgiveness. Characters very well written and likeable. Definitely a book that will grab you in and you will want to just finish it curled up on the couch all cozy, but you may want a box of tissues.

This was one of those emotional stories that made you want to have tissue nearby. Rose heads home to help care for her mom after an injury takes her out of work for a bit. While taking care of her mom, she finds some family secrets. Though her mom and Aunt discourage her to leave it alone, Rose in an investigative journalist. She has to find the truth. This is a beautiful story, even if the truth brought pain. I found the characters to feel so real that my hurt truly hurt for them. I would get so mad, yet could understand the pain her brother felt. Rose just had her own surgery yet came down and was doing care for her mom. She had a lot on her plate. So many emotions with this story. You’ll really have to read it to understand. It’s up there at the top of my list of favorites for 2024. The writing pulls you in. You feel it.

Rose Webster is facing down her fortieth birthday and worrying about her future as a photojournalist after getting caught in a raucous rally and shoved to the hard pavement, destroying her camera and, at least temporarily, her livelihood. One arm is in a splint, her right hand isn’t strong enough to hold a cup of coffee, and bruised ribs make it difficult to breathe. She’s filling out insurance claims when her aunt calls to tell her she’s needed in upstate New York to care for her ailing mother.
Rose has never liked returning to Lake Amelia in the foothills of the Adirondacks for more than a couple of days, but she has no choice. Doctors discover her mother has more health issues than anyone suspected, and Rose needs to help care for her. While poking around in the attic of her childhood home, Rose discovers personal items of her late father’s that hint of a secret life: a photo hidden in a book and a travel bag that hasn’t been opened in more than a decade.
Her next startling discovery sends shockwaves through her family. She’s more determined than ever to find answers no matter the cost. But will she regret what she learns and how it changes the way she thinks about family?

Having read the previous 2 books I was rather keen to get stuck into this one because you read of the different family members and you get furious don’t you , so when the opportunity comes knocking to discover more you grab it 😉
Two things that bring families together , weddings and funerals . Fortunately in this instance it’s a wedding ! Yay ! So Teresa is getting married and David her brother , who’s been working in Africa , joins them in Port Townsend . Something is off though , he doesn’t seem himself and there’s a fiancé in tow ….
Family friend , Maddie catches his eye and you can feel the tension between them and David is having a tough time fighting his desires and walking on eggshells to keep Sylvie happy….
Maddie being an actress has an opportunity with the local theatre and she feels she can’t pine after David forever and she catches the eye of Kilo….
There’s so much to love about this book but what really gets me and what I appreciate is the “ humanness “ of the characters , they’re real , their issues are real and they work through them 🥰

This book is part of a series but in my opinion, it can be read as a standalone. It is an emotional rollercoaster and it will keep you captivated until the very last page. The main theme is love of family even when there are broken pieces.

This is the third book in the Olympic Peninsula series. I have found each of these books amazing and have read them very quickly. Each book definitely functions as a standalone but I do recommend reading each of them to get all the feels of the series. In this book we are back with the O’Connell family. These siblings all have much love for one another and each lives a very interesting life. This story is Maddie, David, and Kilo. These characters had some true sparks in the second book. The focus is on David and his time in Africa. The author does a fantastic job in this story creating vivid imagery. It is not hard to picture the Olympic Peninsula or Africa. This describes the love triangle between the three main characters in depth and I have to say that I was rooting for each of them at different points. I definitely recommending this book and the whole series! I definitely hope there is more to come from the O’Connell family and the Olympic Peninsula!

This is an incredibly emotional and intense story that should feature a trigger warning for victims of abuse. The main character, Devorah is about to undergo the biggest undertaking of her life – taking her life back despite being an incredibly broken and defeated woman. This story is one that many can directly relate to, unfortunately. But if you cannot relate to this story, it will leave you feeling empowered and just feeling better about the world in general. Everyone can relate to the general them that no matter what we go through in life, we always have the chance to grow and find ourselves again. This book had me crying throughout but most of the tears were good tears, the tears that one cries when they have made realizations about themselves through the journey of a well written and well developed character. This book may not be for everyone, however, if you pick it up you will find yourself definitely rooting for the main character and perhaps finding yourself growing with her.

David has been away in Africa for several years as a doctor treating those in need. The family is trying to figure out why David seems so different from the smart kid who wanted to help others. Maddie is a young actress who is contemplating life as she knows it now and how long she can continue on her path. As with the other books in this series, the author does a beautiful job of character and world building. The Olympic peninsula and the O’Connell family and friends make these book not only fun to read but suck you into the story so you will want to read all 3 books in a day if you could.

Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was given a writing assignment in school, at the age of eight. Later, as a teenager, she started out writing memoirs and attempted several nonfiction pieces.
After attending college, she worked in positions where she edited papers for others. She spent time pursuing other interests, and traveling. Much of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.
After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.
After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.
In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing the first chapter. After a few more chapters, she began keeping notes about the details of her characters so she wouldn’t forget the important characteristics. The writing continued, and never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of 13 books in the series.
When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”

The Magic Man is book 3 of this Olympic Peninsula series. It follows the O’Connell siblings David, Maddie and the love triangle between them and Kilo. I was super duper excited to read this one after finishing the last two. This whole series is so well written and so well described that it makes me wanna go there for a visit 😂 I was happy Maddie ended up with who I wanted ( you’ll have to read to see lmao) . This can also be read as a standalone just like the rest but as always I highly suggest reading the whole series because they are awesome sauce. I can’t wait for more from this author

Take me back!!! Whew. I love this author, I love this series. Here we are, book 3… David and Maddie (and Kilo…kinda) While this is the 3rd book, you COULD read it alone, but by reading the whole series, you truly get the whole picture, and understand more of the little things between the characters. I didn’t think I’d love another book more than the 1st, but this one is fighting REALLLLLLLY hard for that spot. If you love a great romance, with a little bit of a mystery and alll the good stuff in between, you wont wanna miss this series, or, just this book, (but absolutely read the series if you have the time!!)

I’ve loved each book in this series, but this may be my favorite so far! In this book we focused on David and hearing about his experience as a doctor in Africa. Maddie and Kilo are also a focus in this story, and it will have you on the edge of your seat forgetting about your real-world duties for a bit. The author sets the scene with such vivid imagery that I felt like I was fully immersed in the Pacific Northwest! While you can likely read this as a standalone without much confusion, I highly recommend reading from the beginning to get the full backstory and experience. Don’t skip this series!

This is the third book in the Olympic Peninsula series. Although you could read each as a standalone, the previous characters do cross over, and you gain a deeper understanding of previous events and the characters by reading in order. This book focuses on David and Maddie coming together. David has returned from Africa altered, to the concern of his family and meets Maddie. Instant chemistry. Unfortunately, David is taken and so Maddie decides to move on but isn’t necessarily being true to herself. As usual the author writes in such an engaging and easy flowing way it is so easy to get lost in the story and invested in the pair’s lives. The way the character’s secrets are slowly revealed and the truth of who they are, and their lives is developed is well-written and I didn’t want to put the book down. The descriptive narrative, which is what hooked me in the first book, continues to bring the scenery and characters to life as the series progresses and I can’t help but wanting more!

Fantastic continuation of this series! I love that you can read these as standalones or as the series. I always recommend reading as a series simply because you will get little details here and there that you would otherwise miss; however, with this series, those details are not so important to each plot that you have to read it as a series. I love that we continue to follow the O’Connell siblings and are now focused on David and Maddie (who is also interested in Kilo, the yoga instructor) and their journey to finding out what they all want. I love the setting of this series, the Pacific Northwest, and I absolutely love Treadgold’s writing. You really can’t go wrong with this series. There is intrigue, mystery, love, heartbreak, and so much more. I highly, highly recommend starting this series right now…whether it’s book 1 or book 3! Reviewed by @meggs1717

This is the 3rd book in the The Olympic Peninsula series. These romances are really good reads. Each book does follow a different couples story however the characters do cross over as they are related in some way to other characters in books that come before.
This is David and Maddie’s story.
David has returned from Africa for his sisters wedding. But something doesn’t seem quite right with him. Gone is the happy carefree man that left for Africa. What has caused his change? Could it the things he has seen as a doctor in Africa or is there something or someone closer to home causing the change?
The connection between Maddie and David is immediate but with David’s partner around Maddie decides to move on by meeting Kilo. Now she finds herself in a kind of triangle as she is torn between David and Kilo. She can’t stop thinking about David and how well matched they are even though he is taken, but she also knows there isn’t any hope as he is spoken for. Which man will she choose? The man who knows her completely or the man who has fallen for the image she portrays.
These stories are beautifully written with so many twist and turns that I couldn’t put it down. The characters are so well developed that if feels like they could be members of my own family. These stories show that relationships aren’t all sunshine and roses but hard work and learning how to overcome obstacles together. I love these stories

The Magic Man (The Olympic Peninsula Book 3) by Cat Treadgold. This is the story of David who has gone home to Port Townsend to attend the wedding of his sister. David has always been fun and outgoing but his family has noticed he is very quiet and not talking about his fiancee or his work in Africa as a Doctor. During the wedding events David meets Maddie who is a actress in town for the wedding. As David and Maddie spend time together they are really enjoying each other’s company. Their chemistry is immediate and David knows he can’t act on it because of his fiancee. Maddie likes David because he is smart and kind and David likes Maddie because she is sweet and has a great sense of humor. David drops it because he knows that he can’t go further because of his fiancee. Maddie also has feelings for Kilo who owns the yoga studio and is sexy! Who will Maddie choose and will she find her happily every after? Will David finally let out his secrets? This is a awesome romance!

The Magic Man is book 3 in this series. Bringing us back to The Olympic Peninsula. The author takes the reader on another journey of one of the O’Connell siblings’ troubles and journey. Though not completely focused on him, Maddie is the lead in this story. He is very much involved. Maddie finds herself in a triangle. She has feelings for both David and Kilo. While trying to get to know the family her mother is marrying into she finds herself on the O’Connell compound. Where David, newly back from Africa, is staying. She’s intrigued by David, but doesn’t feel like she’s good enough for him. Then there’s Kilo. Teresa’s ex, who owns the yoga studio, screams sex appeal. He knows what he wants and goes for it. Everyone knows it’s not the best idea, but decides to let Maddie make her own decision. Is it a mistake? Should she leave Kilo behind and move on? Well she tried and he’s back now she’s back to being torn. At the same time feels David hates her. David wants to make things right but how? Maddie won’t give him the time of day. He needs to go about it correctly, to truly show her how he feels vs what she overheard. Will he be successful? These books though a series work well as a standalone novel as well. The supporting cast gets their own chapters or parts of chapters, however even then it always ends up back on the books main focus. The O’Connell family is upstanding and extremely loving. However there’s been some broken pieces throughout all 3 books. Will David be able to fix his broken piece? I guess you will have to read to find out!

This book is the third in the series and is just as good as the previous books. I loved getting to know a bit more about David and his situation. Watching his connection with Maddie develop was great to see as it felt real and genuine. The story is well written and has a great pace to it. The author always knows exactly what needs to be done to progress the story. I am really enjoying becoming more familiar with this authors work and cannot wait to discover more. This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed.
