The series just keeps getting better. I was riveted to this one as Titania had faked her death to hide as to protect her family. The story really kept you engaged and intrigued because of the action and drama. There was mystery also around what was coming up next. Part of what I enjoy in these stories are the characters. Titania has really grown into her role through the series. She’s become stronger and a bit more confident. Her supporting characters are really quite perfect for the story. It’s a delight to read and I always look forward to a new one coming out.

Such a page-turner! I did not want to put the book down. Holland is the new girl and meets Asher on her first day of school—she beings to crush on him right away. But, a few days later her locker gets stuck and Chandler swoops in to save the day. She begins to have a crush on him as well. Holland soon discovers that Asher and Chandler are brothers! They convince Holland to go on dates with both of them so that she can choose who she wants to be with. After some good and some not so good dates, and some family struggles for Holand, she eventually makes her choice. Who will she choose?

The Discovery of Magic is an intriguing read and L.J. has craftily woven plots amongst plots as the adventure of new worlds, magic, mayhem and friendship ride out in this epic fantasy. The story starts out strong but there are a few ebbs and flows along the way that slow things down at times, but it does sort itself out and was still an interesting read. The Discovery of Magic is told in multiple POV of the engaging characters, and it is those friendships/relationships that make the story. It is a journey where there is magic and many things for them to learn and explore as they travel through portals, worlds and people. But there are also lies, secrets, and conniving and menacing characters that they must deal with along the way. Things were left unanswered in the end, so we have to wait for the next book to see how things pan out.

L. J. Evias is a first time author for me, but after reading The Discovery of Magic, it certainly won’t be the last. The Discovery of Magic is the first book in the Intrigue of Magic Series. This Young Adult Fantasy book is lengthy, 545 pages, but has so much included; drama, mystery, danger, friendship, “normal” teenage angst, and of course, magic! The world building is amazing; I could feel the tension and confusion as Alice and her friends navigate the magical world of Parsa, see the desert sands of South Parsa, and experience the opulence of the palace in North Parsa. The characters in this book are all well-constructed, realistic (even the magical characters), and believable. While Alice, Jamie, Jordan, Emily, Yasmin, and Darien are the main characters, there are many other engaging individuals who make the story complete. Told from different point of views, The Discovery of Magic has plenty of twists and turns that connect to one another in an oddly satisfying way. I cannot wait for the next book in the Intrigue of Magic Series.

In order to understand this book, you must read the prior 3 but I promise it’s worth it. Titania’s “death” has protected her realm from Sonia…or so she hopes This leaves Titania to hide in the dark, in the shadows in a simple cabin in the woods. However Titania has never been one to sit idly by when her people need her and the simple life is just not giving her the stimulation she needs even with Foster intermittently at her side. When earthquakes break out and fae start losing their livelihoods Titania can’t resist and starts heading to help in a disguise, but her secret won’t remain a secret forever and Foster is desperate to protect her. Can Titania save her realm from Sonia and the chaos she brings? Is she ever going to be satisfied with the simple life Foster wants with her, or is that going to come crashing down as she’s unable to control her impulse to help.
Such a great series I enjoyed immensely and worth every moment of reading.

This is the fifth book of ‘The Gods’ Scion’ series. This is not a standalone and you should read the whole series. I made that mistake and read this as a standalone and was very confused. It took me a long time to get who was who and what was going on.
After a while, I started picking up what was going on but whereas this was book 5, all of the characters were already introduced. A lot of the characters were related and their names all started with ‘R’ which made it even more hard.
The book itself was interesting. The main character is the queen who can’t trust anybody and there’s betrayal around every corner. One of the queen’s children is supposed to be next in line for the throne and everything was going well. All of a sudden, a young man shows up claiming to be the dead crowned prince’s heir, meaning he would have claim over the throne. He will stop at nothing to get it. The queen will have to try to stop him.
The book was very political with a lot going on within the family and kingdom. I’m sure if I read the rest of the series, I would have found it more enjoyable.
Full of fantasy, lore, family, betrayal and a splash of romance, there is something for everyone!
The Discovery of Magic is the first book in the The Intrigue of Magic series. This new fantasy series delves into the world of Alice and her friends. She has convinced her parents to let her compete for a highly prized scholarship. In doing so, Alice and her friends discover a new realm after going through a portal. Will Alice and her friends get through their adventurous ordeal? The story builds characters, the story, and the world well. Once I got into the book, I wanted to know what would happen to the characters. The POV changes to tell what happens with each main character once separated. It took me a bit to nail down each storyline, but it made the book enjoyable with so many different aspects to consider. I was left wanting more. I look forward to reading the next book to see what happens next.

This was a fun quick read. Holland finds herself at a new school her junior year in high school. She also finds herself crushing on two guys. She didn’t realize the drama having a crush on these two would cause., but in all fairness the drama isn’t her fault. She made some good friends even though she misses her friends from her old school. This author wrote an excellent YA romance that I think young adults will enjoy. This is a must read if you want to find out which crush Holland chooses. I look forward to reading more books by this author. I recommend this book.

A family situation moved Holland and her family to a new town and therefore she has to go to a new school. The allure of not being around the same people as she has been for the past decade means she is free to crush on someone new. This story if what happens when she finds herself crushing on not one, but two guys!
A Tale of Two Crushes was fast-paced and dropped the reader back in high school right along with Holland. Holland was a fun character and all her new friends were fun and easy to follow too. There was teenage drama, lots of angst, tension you can feel, and the making of the best of friendships forged in this story. It’s a good clean YA read.

A Tale of Two Crushes by Cori Cooper is a fun Young Adult novel about Holland Morriss, a high school junior, who moves to a new school in 11th grade and almost immediately is pursued by two different boys, who let’s just say have “history.” While this is seemingly flattering, for Holland, this sets off an exploration of her own identity and what she really wants out of life. Before this situation, Holland followed life in a linear way, following her best friend and seemingly very directed and focused. Now in a new city she starts to explore what she really wants from life and which of these 2 boys is the one she want to spend time with.
I enjoyed this book. One thing I loved about the book was the way Holland considered her emotions. They were written as if they were people in her life: Anxiety, Fear and Confidence were regular residents of Holland’s brain. It was very clever and also, very real.

The Discovery of Magic is the first book in The Intrigue of Magic by L.J. Evias. It is a fantastic YA fantasy full of action, adventure, mystery, politics, agendas, magic, drama, danger, fate, mages, quirky characters, tension, intriguing developments, friendship, challenges, emotion, and travelling to different realms. And it comes with a MAP!!! I love when a story comes with a map so I can ‘see’ where places are- it really helps visualise everything so much more clearly. So, I was excited when I saw the map at the beginning of the book, and knew right away that I would enjoy the adventure- and I did! This might be my first read by L.J. Evias- but this book ensured that it won’t be the last. Alice faces the prospect of losing all her friends with her parent’s desire to move the family to a place she has never even heard of. She is a talented archer, and puts all her hopes on winning a contest that comes with a scholarship, which will allow her to remain with her circle of friends. But little does she know that her world will be turned upside down when she and her friends discover a portal which transports them to a different realm. Now let the adventure begin! I can’t wait to continue the series. Bring on Book #2!! Happy Reading…

If you enjoy a lot of drama, teenage angst, action, dark magic, fantasy, and more, you’ll love this book. I do caution you though, make sure to read this series in order as there are a lot of characters and moving parts. If you pick this up out of order, you’ll be slightly confused for a bit and might not want to finish this spectacular series. I do believe this is my most favorite book in the series. It’s hard to say much more without giving anything away! This author has a way of writing to keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more with each book!

There is great character and world-building, which starts the novel off slow but builds into a faster pace. There is a satisfactory conclusion with room for later novels.

Productivity is Power: 5 Liberating Practices for College Students by Hillary Rettig. Let me start by saying I wish I had this book when I was starting college. It is such a great resource for college kids, high school and college counselors, teachers and many others. It helps kids realize that they can make a plan and stick with it to be successful in college. With all the distractions going on around them its so hard to concentrate on what they really need to. This book gives them 5 practices that will help them stay on track and be very successful. This book needs to be read from cover to cover but if you are short on time you can find certain chapters that relate to what you are going thru at the time and read it and go back. Its a wonderful resource! It would make a wonderful high school graduation gift. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book for the college student in your life.

I was so thrilled when I seen this next book in this series come out and couldn’t wait to get back to Titania and the fae world. this series is one should really read all the books to understand the whole picture. The author created an interesting world and one that was so well written into the story that it was hard to not be able to picture it, the world that if you like fantasy books about fae, you will love this too. Titania knows she needs to remain hidden to protect her people and realm, but she can’t sit still. Her selflessness and desire to protect fae and humans is inspiring. The sacrifices she continues to make is amazing. Titania has the desire to help and wants more then just be someone to look pretty for. Foster by her side, she has confidence that it’ll be enough. That is till the earthquakes start. When her people start losing their livelihoods she needs help. When she goes up to see her friends they create a plan. A plan to protect all the types of supernatural beings. This book was so memorizing I couldn’t put it down like the last ones, its filled with hope, love, fantasy, danger, action, and so much more.

4 – 4.5 stars I came across a surprising book called War Bunny, set in a post-apocalyptic world where animals have taken over and humans no longer exist. The story follows a small bunny named Anastasia who questions the established hierarchy and fights for a better way of life after being banished. The book is narrated mainly from Anastasia’s perspective but also includes multiple points of view to provide a comprehensive picture of the characters and their feelings. War Bunny addresses various themes such as mental disorders, violence, religion, and politics. It’s a tale of courage, self-empowerment, and striving for a better world. If you’re looking for a unique read, then Christopher’s War Bunny Chronicles is worth checking out. War Bunny is primarily aimed at YA’s but I as an older adult enjoyed it.

Joey is a young boy of thirteen who lives at home with his mother and sisters, it isn’t an easy life, but it is the one he has been given, but fortunately he has good friends, that is until one day he is sent off by his mother for a better life at Lapidius. Lapidius is a school, but other than that, Joey has no idea of what to expect when he gets there, but the fact that his friends are going with him helps the transition.
After a few days in the wagon travelling to Lapidius, Joey is anxious to get out and see where he is and what his future will look like and at first glance, all he can see is the majesty of the building and the beautiful smells coming from a nearby group of buildings, however, he soon realises that is this is no ordinary school, it is a military one as he sees the officers and cadets who are lining the pathway to the school who are intimidating to the highest degree, not to mention the barracks where he will be staying and the introductory processing he experiences.
This is where anything commonplace disappears and Joey soon discovers that nothing is what it seems and what can only describe as being magic is being used and this terrifies him, especially when horns blare out in the middle of their first night and a cry of “Monsters” goes up in the halls. After everything has settled down and sleep claims him, Joey is awoken early for inspection and his first day of drills, exercise, lessons and chores and his routine for the next few weeks until he discovers which house he will be placed into.
He quickly realises that what he has been taught in school before was seriously lacking and his new lessons are revealing information which he never dreamed could be possible and when he realises that it is the truth, his life changes forever, but will he be able to survive this new world and the monsters within it, or will he fall at the first hurdle? This is a great beginning to an adventure series full of military training and dangerous escapades which will keep you wanting to know what happens next.

This is a YA dystopian story that has the same vibes as Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Divergent, and Harry Potter. It’s a coming of age story of four friends that are sent to a mysterious military school and discover magic, monsters, friendship, and a sense of purpose in the world. The characters are wonderfully written and it’s has a lot of details that paint a vivid picture. It was slow going at first but it made up for it by the end as its a great story. As this is the first book in A Nation Found series I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Lapidius is the first book in the Nation Found series. It follows a group of 4 young boys/teens as they are sent away to a military esq setting in a castle. It is a little slow in the beginning, lots of detail and good world building. Sort of dystopian meets Hunger Games meets fantasy fiction. Good all around.

This book had a lot of detail whether it was the characters thoughts and feelings or the locations and people around them. It was a great story that was engaging. The relationships between the characters and the setting were fun and interesting. It is a young adult dystopian story so would be good for young readers. I really liked that the author included a little tidbit at the beginning for each character with a description of them and how they fit into it.

This was a new author to me so I didn’t know what to expect, but I enjoy dystopian type stories so I gave it a shot. I’m glad I did. You can tell this author put a lot of effort into his writing and knowledge. It’s basically a children’s military school with a fantasy twist. I was drawn in from tbr beginning and will be watching for a second book! I recommend this book for really any age group.

This is an exceptional book that is very helpful and every college student, advisor, mentor, high school senior should read it. There is so much in this book and there is something in there for everyone…even if you think you know everything and have it pretty much figured out. I can guarantee you that you will find something in here that will either help you in a way you didn’t know you needed help or will help you streamline a process you already use. I love how easy to read this book is and how you can quickly go through and find the area you need. While I highly recommend reading this book from cover to cover, this is the perfect book to be able to look in the contents and find the section that applies to you right now. If you are a college student or you have a college student (even a high school senior) get this book. I am a former teacher and I would have definitely gifted this book to my seniors…or at least tried to have a couple of copies in my classroom. I will definitely be putting this on my work bookshelf to help all of the college kiddos I see now. Reviewed by @meggs1717

Lapidius is book one in the A Nation Found series by Matthew Runals. An enchanting combination of a military school and monsters. I adored this idea, and it reminded me of Enders Game which I also absolutely loved. This is intended as a YA dystopian fiction but this does also have some of the heavier themes that come with war. This was an amazing read, and a new author to me. I ate this book right up, and I heavily look forward to reading what’s next!

This is the first book in A Nation Found Series and the first book I have read by this author. This is a YA adult fantasy adventure which has so much happening that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I wasn’t too sure what to expect going into this book however I was not disappointed. The author opens us up to a world where it seems all hope is lost until the youth are given something to fight for. The characters is the book are well written and I loved how the boys had banter between themselves just as you know that boys do in real life. Every aspect of this book was well thoughtout out and the characters and surroundings were brought to life.
Joey and his friends and their family’s are struggling to survive as times are hard and their town is losing all hope. To save their son’s, Joey and his friends are sent to Lapidius. Lapidius is a school where the boys will be educated and feed well. However things aren’t all that they seem and when they arrive the boys realise the Lapidius is more of a training camp that a school and they are being trained to fight a war that gets closer by the day. Add to this all the mystery that surrounds Lapidius, the monsters and the adventures that Joey and his friends find themselves on and this becomes one book that you will not be able to put down.

Lapidus By Matthew Runals is a good book for dystopian readers it also has action scenes. It takes place around war and shows how the world can be tragic. The school has many secrets and some fantasy scenes while it teaches them how they are fighting for their country. The kids also have to fight monsters, and they are in a war. This book is a great read for children and adults. It is also for people who like dystopian and fantasy stories. Stephen Rymer 09/2024

Lapidius is the first book in the A Nation Found series. It’s a children’s series with a magic boarding school and a big tournament-type thing that will appeal to fans of similar series. The dystopian setting is thought-provoking and creates situations where the children are in danger.
There’s a fun group of characters at the centre of this story. As they learn to cope with the rigorous military training and intense social dynamics at Lapidius their strengths, weaknesses and priorities are highlighted. I like that there are a lot of times we see the kids helping each other out!
I would recommend this more for teen/YA readers. Children who are confident readers and are comfortable reading more violent scenes would also enjoy it, and I think it could be a fun book to read together as there is plenty to discuss around the ethics and decisions of different characters.
This book gets four stars from me. I enjoyed the excitement and adventure, and there’s plenty of worldbuilding that has gone into it. I look forward to reading more of the series!
